This is the first time that The Amazing Race

has been to the Republic of Colombia

and the city of Cartagena, a World Heritage site

that has a wonderful mix of colonial and modern architecture.

The team's first destination is here at Totumo,

where things are guaranteed to get messy.

Airport?

We've been engaged for almost three and a half years.

We have not set a wedding date yet.

I did maybe influence Matt into

getting engaged before he was ready.

We're at a crossroads right now where our careers

are really exploding and we need to find that balance.

I believe in taking a leap

and he's more like the machine has to work perfectly

before we commit to anything.

Playing ultimate Frisbee together for 10 years,

I think that gives us a leg up on some of the other racers.

that provides this rich, therapeutic mud,

said to be more than 2,000 feet deep.

After submerging themselves head-to-toe in mud,

teams must dig down and find one of Colombia's most abundant gems -

the emerald.

Wash it off and deliver it to an attendant,

who will point out their next clue.

and saw that it was just this huge pit of mud.

but then on the outsides was all mud.

I was kind of nervous because I was like, "How deep does this thing go?"

PHIL: Colombia's many idyllic beaches

are the perfect place to party.

Pop-Up requires teams to build a shelter

using the materials they'll find on the beach.

Once they've constructed a shady shack, they must call in the locals,

who will drive in the tunes and help get the party started.

Colombia's culinary delights are a wonderful mix

of African, Spanish and Indigenous recipes.

And this country's beach cook-ups are among the world's best.

'Parilla' requires teams to prepare some tasty barbacoa.

After serving it up to the partygoers,

they'll receive their next clue.

We made a lot of mistakes this leg.

We underestimated the competitive attitudes of the other teams.

we won't play it the same way.

and you have been eliminated from the race.

Hagan, you were so invested in being in this race.

I had a lot left in me to give to this race.

I wasn't ready to give up yet.

I'm just so proud of her. She couldn't have done any better.

and I just love her with all my heart.

I wanted to do the race with my daughter

because she's just graduated from college,

and so this is kind of one of our last mother-daughter things

we're going to get to do for a while.

There's nobody I would have wanted to do the race with other than her.
