I'm with a band, and we play
old-school R&B top 40s.

But also, I'm working
on writing my own songs

and developing
my own artistry.

I am the youngest of nine.

Growing up,
there were definitely hardships.

My dad lost his job,

so there was only one income
in the house,

which was my mom's,

and so she ended up
having to work multiple jobs

just to provide us with food.

You know, we were
really fighting to survive.

And so today, I'm
still inspired by the memories

that I have of her walking
in the rain to get to work,

to go make minimum wage,

to come back so that we can have
a few gifts for Christmas.

I'm 27, and I'm from Franklin,
Tennessee.

I grew up with my dad being
a jazz trumpet player.

My mom was an opera singer,
and my oldest brother, Nathan,

was in a boy band back
in the day called Plus One.

So music kind of runs
in the family.

Ah!

I just remember
seeing the stadiums

that they would play in,
and going to McDonald's

and seeing your face
on a Happy Meal.
Uh-huh.

I was like,
"Oh, that's my brother."
"Oh, yeah."

As a young kid, you think
that's what success is.

With having such a high bar with
my brother being in Plus One,

I tended to compare myself a lot
to that.

I went from singing
with a cappella groups

to being on a worship team,

always behind another artist or
doing something collaboratively.

And I think my weakness
has always been,

"No, no, no,
don't look at me."

It's almost like if I don't try,
I won't fail.

I love you so much.
You're gonna crush it.

But it just takes one person
to believe in you.

[ Voice breaking ] I'm only here
because of my husband.

He believed in me,
and he was like,

"Your voice
needs to be heard."

He's always
seen the best of me,

and he's always seen
how much music makes me happy.

I know all the moments
that no one else

sees of her practicing,
rehearsing.

I'm really just honored
to be a part of the story.

I am 50 years old, and I have
been married almost 29 years.

I have four kids
from age 21 to 28.

My husband and I are

marriage and family pastors
at our church.

We do a lot
of premarital counseling.

We like to share our
own experiences

and just sit and listen.

And it's great for me
because I just got

my master's
in marriage and family therapy.

Ooh, imagine what, like --
yeah, where would my photo go?

As soon as "The Voice" came out,
we watched every season.

I love the love
the transformation

that artists go through.

I want that for me.

"The Voice" process to me

is really important
to show my kids

it is never too late to be
who you've always wanted to be.

I feel really fortunate
that it's my turn.

I've been singing
for many years.

I have been on tour to Japan

probably six, seven times
with saxophonist Ron Brown.

I sang background
for CeCe Winans' live recording.

It was awesome.

Being on tour as a mom,
as a wife,

you still feel some guilt,
just FOMO,

that you're not able to be
a part of certain things

or do certain things
with the family.

So now I mostly serve
at my local church

singing with our choir.

Now's the perfect time
for me to be here on this stage,

at this point in my life,
because I'm an empty nester.

Me and my husband
are home with our dog.

Everyone's going to
be watching.

we all have our side hustles.

My job is
a party bike driver.

We just pedal people around,
listen to music,

and just make sure
they have the best time ever.

I do actually get to sing
on the party bike a lot.

When I tell them I do music,
immediately they're like,

"Sing us a song,
sing us a song."

After I graduated college,
I moved out to Nashville.

I didn't have a place to live
and I didn't have a job.

I immediately started bartending
and slowly but surely

I started picking up gigs.

Right now in Nashville,
I play Blake Shelton's bar,

which is really awesome.

But as an independent artist,

Nashville can definitely be
a struggle.

I'm emotional right now,
Page,

because you did never give up,
and I probably would have.

You never did.

"The Voice" is the opportunity
that I've been working for.

I've been grinding on Broadway,
and I've had so many people say,

"If you've been in Nashville
for so long,

if it hasn't happened yet,

why are you still chasing
this dream?"

And I just feel like this is
the moment to prove to myself

that I'm here for a reason.

I think a chair turn
could absolutely change my life.

My first performance was
second grade,

and my mom dressed me up.

When I see Tyler on stage,
it kind of shocks me

because she's not very
flamboyant.

Huge anxiety

But then the second
she'd be on stage,

all of a sudden she was
somebody totally different.

Tyler: Around the age of 13,

I would, like, make
my mom stop the car

when she's driving me to,
like, a social gathering,

and I would just sob and be
like, I can't do it, I can't go.

What are they going to think
of me?

I'm very good at thinking of

all the worst-case scenarios.

I started dealing with anxiety
and depression.

Only through therapy
and through music and singing,

I was able to finally feel
like I wasn't alone.

Seeing her now
makes me extremely proud.

She's just grown so much
in a short period of time.

Tyler: Currently, I have
been doing a few gigs around

and trying to put myself
out there,

even though it's
a terrifying thing.

is my childhood idol.

I moved to the United States
when I was 19

because United States, I think,

set such a high bar
in terms of, like, artists

that I always wanted to be
surrounded by the best.

I still remember, I think,
the faces of my parents,

when I was just leaving
for the first time.

We didn't know when I'm
going to come back, you know,

when I'm going to be
able to see them next time.

I didn't see my parents
for nine years,

so it was really,
really hard for them.

In 2021, my dad,
he felt sick, um, like a flu

and he went to the emergency,

and unfortunately
he passed away.

I couldn't go, unfortunately,

When I first started singing,

it was probably around 6 or 7 --

when I actually picked up
a basketball,

which is kind of crazy.

I knew when I was like 10
or 11 that I wanted to, like,

play basketball seriously
at a high level.

I was blessed enough to be
a two-time conference champion,

and because we won
the conference championship,

my team and I went to
the NCAA championship tournament

in 2015 and '16.

The plan was definitely go pro.

Ended up getting hurt and messed
up my ankle pretty bad.

It was definitely tough,
but I was also grateful

because I felt like
it was just a sign.

We had a conversation
about him going overseas

and playing ball,

and I said, you will last
but so long,

right, in basketball.

But your ability to sing,
your vocal skills, your gift,

that can last you
as long as you're alive.

In Atlanta, I'm actually doing
a lot of songwriting for people.

I vocal produce
a lot of artists.

Out there, creating
my own music as well.

I probably did about 15 to 20
shows this year so far.

Having a chair turn around
would definitely, like,

open the doors for me
in the music world.

I'm more of an underdog coming
from an athletic background,

so I feel like a coach
would definitely help me improve

on my ear for music and how
to really move the crowd.

I really want to take it
to the next level.
