on the parole system,

and I thought it would be interesting

to get an inmate's point of view.

- [Hillary] And it's
your second conviction?

- Yeah.

First time I did 18 months in County.

This time I'm not so lucky.

- Well it says here

you've been in and out of
foster homes as a child.

I can only assume you didn't
have a very stable upbringing.

- Well, except for, uh, Aunt Marie.

That's what I used to call her.

She was my second foster mom.

I lived with her for about, uh,

I don't know, about, about
seven years before she died.

- I'm sorry.

- That's okay.

She taught me how to take care of myself.

- Well next week the parole board

will be meeting to review your case,

and in the event that you're released,

have you considered the fact that

your record will keep you from a good job?

- Sure.

Yeah, I mean, who wants to hire an ex-con?

- The governor and I
are working on a program

to develop job opportunities for parolees,

situations that will help
them get back into society.

Would you be interested
in something like that?

- Yeah.

I mean, you know, what would
I have to lose? (laughs)

His adjustment to society
and all that kind of thing.

You know, the program that you
proposed to the government,

well, he was the perfect example.

I figure we should
practice what we preach.

I already sold the idea to Jameson.

that's accumulated over
the last couple of months.

will lead to a good story,

a bizarre letter,

um, a clipping from a local newspaper,

anything like that.

- What about fan mail?

- Oh. (laughs)

I do the best I can,

but I just don't have
time to answer them all.

- Well, when I was in prison,
I, I worked in the mail room,

and part of my job was to go around

and to deliver all the mail.

For most of those guys,

it was their only link to the real world.

They, they really looked forward to it.

And besides, you know, if it,

if it weren't for fan mail,

I never would've met you.

- I never thought of it that way.

absolutely, totally ignorant

as to what acting is all about.

but without a clue as to motivation.

The audience will care
if you bare your soul

and your heart,

and remember, tension in your body

pulls away from focusing
on what you're doing,

so try to relax.
