as the all-male trio struggles to put meat on the table.

In the green swati valley,

the all-female trio has found a lush camp,

but Africa's penetrating heat

has left them exhausted and dehydrated.

And at Sotho gorge, a bitter clash over survival strategies

has boiled over into hostility.

Clarence: Survival situation -- maybe it's easy for you guys

it's not for me.

You can't drink [bleep] water, you are not gonna make it.

If I can't move to another water source, I'm not gonna make it!

That's the stage I'm at. So I'm gonna go.

Clarence: I want to leave this location... right

I currently, right now, as we speak,

think we have zero days left.

Oh, this is gross water.

The water has got poop in it.

The water is straight-up filthy here.

The water's so shallow, I can barely dip the pot in.

We have to get out of here very quickly,

or we're gonna die of dehydration.

If I have to leave on my own, I'll do that.

My father taught me growing up, if there's a man in the gutter,

you reach your hand down and you help that man up.

When that man tries to pull you down into the gutter,

you got to let go.

Guys, that water's really low.

I could barely fill up the pot.

Jake: Yeah, that's like half a pot. Yikes.

I'd like to go to a fresh water source --

so, a different water source, a more abundant water source.

That's all I want, is water.

But if you want me to stop bitching

about the water and the heat, I can do that.

Stacey: I'm not surprised that Clarence has reached his breaking po

I'm feeling the effects of heat exhaustion.

We are right here. That's our watering hole.

Clarence: Yeah. Okay.

And each day, the water's gonna get

thicker and denser and grosser.

I feel like Clarence might be right.

It's time to leave.

Well, I say we just crush it, seize the day.

But even though there's water on a map,

with the drought that they've been having,

it could be completely dry.

There's no guarantee.

I can't believe that we've been drinking from that for a week.

I just think about all the possible things

that could go wrong.

We're not out here in hiking boots.

We're out in the middle of Africa.

It's not gonna be a walk in the park.

Narrator: In swati valley, phaedra, Alyssa, and tawny

have not eaten for over five days

and continue to suffer from sleepless nights

in Africa's debilitating heat.

We need to take more trips to the water -- like, together.

I think that's a big part of the problem from yesterday.

Alyssa: Yeah. It's getting too hot.

Mm-hmm.

So, last night was real rough.

We had worked really hard in the sun yesterday

and ended up getting kind of heat exhaustion

and blistering up.

Tawny: We're definitely at our lowest.

We haven't had food yet,

so basically water's gonna be our food

until we get the fishing thing figured out.

Whoa.

Phaedra: I've lived in Alaska a lot of my life,

and fishing is a big part of my life.

I really enjoy it.

But the fish haven't really been biting with the grasshoppers,

and so we're gonna try a different approach.

So, this is a fishing hook made out of bone.

And then we have some of the line

from the inside of the line that tawny brought.

How's it going over there?

The fish are -- it's too late for them.

Whoa.

If we can find another person that has more hunting skills,

that's what we're depending on out here.

I think that would be huge.

where temperatures have soared into the triple digits,

Darrin and Kim now only have each other to rely on.

Kim: Well, the hardest part about getting water

is definitely the sun.

We're down one partner, and, you know, that sucks.

Kim: It's very hot. You can feel it burning you within seconds.

Last time, I had a partner tap out on me on day 4,

and I was by myself for 17 days.

And to kind of have the same emotions coming up

is kind of a scary thing.

Darrin: So, you're shaving the metal off.

Oh, yeah.

But I'm really glad that Darrin's my partner.

He seems really eager to teach what he knows, and I love it.

Oh, I see.

There's a tick on your leg.

I mean, I've spent so much of my life alone in the woods.

has spent five days focused on hunting big game for protein

but with no success.

and making my preparations to get back in my hunting blind.

I don't know, man. I'm just too excited.

Taking initiative and high motivation

is something that's kind of been ingrained in me

due to my military experience

and fighting the war in Iraq and Afghanistan,

so, for me, unmotivated people do not motivate me.

Whenever you guys are up, I'll be ready to go.

Steven: He's one of those guys, when he's at home,

he wakes up at 4:00 in the morning

and probably goes on a jog or a hike or something.

I'm not that guy.

Dude, I think something already came down here.

This is a frequent spot right here.

Damn, we already missed an opportunity today.

Come sunrise, we pretty much have three hours

from that time until it's unbearably hot

and there's really not much else we can do for the day.

Angel: Think I'm gonna go full boar today

and just put mud all over me.

Angel: The mud not only covers your scent

but just completely makes you camouflaged.

And people really, like, cover themselves in mud

and wait there all day

and literally hand-catch, you know, deer.

For us to hunt as a group, it requires a lot of Patience,

and I know a lot of people don't have that level of Patience.

It's extremely frustrating.

Stacey: If you guys see a game trail,

I'm starting to get a little discouraged, to be honest.

The trail is kind of disappearing.

Looks like a dead end.

How do you want to go about this?

I mean, would you prefer taking, like, a 10- or 15-minute break

and letting me shoot ahead?

I'll be astonished if there's something over there.

I just would like to try to get to at least

what looks like the dead end on the map,

just so I know that we didn't turn around too soon.

And I would hate to put in all that energy

and get there and find that it's nothing

and have to turn around and come back.

We don't have any.

My strategy is to go very slow,

do a lot of work early in the morning...

...and basically rest and lie down in the middle.

Could be some kind of wild porcupine or a pig.

As the group expands, yes, there's more helping hands,

but there's also a need for more resources.

So, if somebody starts falling behind with helping out,

it's noticeable.

Clarence: I'm trying to conserve as many calories as possible

and do as little as possible.

Sometimes it appears that I'm lazy, but I know myself.

My father died of a stroke,

and my brothers and I all have high-blood-pressure issues.

You know, like, I can feel my heart rate going up,

and that's when I stop.

Stacey: Now that we're here in a new location,

I want everybody to pull their own weight.

But Clarence must think

the universal laws do not apply to him.

That was part of the problem we had at the last location,

so I'm a little upset and frustrated.

Steven: We didn't eat yesterday,

and we haven't really eaten anything today,

so we need to break that streak.

Do I think it's best that all three people

are hunting at the same time?

No.

But Ryan wants to do that, so I'm willing to,

you know, entertain it for a little bit.

Initially, I think that I expected him

They're looking out for each other.

So, this morning, we are pretty gung-ho

about going to get the porcupine.

I want to help the team, and I want the team to help me,

so I'm going out of my way to do what I can to help them.

But I want to do it before it gets too hot.

And in an environment with temperatures up to 105 degrees,

it's already bad.

If it gets worse, could be major issues.

and smoke out the porcupine.

Of course we got to go past a bunch of thorns

to get to a porcupine.

This is pretty far from camp.

This is one of the hottest days of my life.

and they look pretty active.

The thought is to smoke them out,

I got to have a seat for a second.

to confuse and start suffocating this guy.

sent the tsonga basin twosome's score plummeting,

The all-male trio at pondo ravine

has had mixed success hunting at its water hole.

Its xlr score has dipped to 7.2.

And at swati valley, two teams have joined forces,

raising their combined score to 8.1 for now.

But if the six can't find ways to beat the heat,

Africa may pass the final verdict.

Jake: It's the real deal. It's brutal.

Alyssa: I know. You think, "oh, well,

you know, he was only in the sun for a few minutes."

But until you actually feel the sun for a few minutes here,

you don't even get it.

[ Siren wails ]

Narrator: After a grueling 50-minute journey

to the nearest hospital... 1, 2, 3. Let's go.

...doctors rush to treat Clarence

for heat stroke and massive dehydration.

[ Whimpers ]

Narrator: Although Clarence is now stable,

he will need to remain in the hospital for the next 48 hours.

With a full recovery still days away,

Clarence is pulled from the challenge.

Stacey: I feel terrible for him.

Jake: Yeah. Alyssa: Mm-hmm.

And I'd rather see him get medical attention

than to die out here. Exactly, yeah.

Clarence's face is the first face I saw on this challenge.

It's gonna be sad without him.

There were some issues, but those things don't matter,

especially when somebody's health and safety

are on the line.

Come to Africa, and it's hot and it's stressful,
