my grandfather to move,

purposely came to Los Angeles

because he wanted to
see the celebrities and stars

that people think they can see here.

I think every little boy dreams of being

famous, being in movies
and things like that.

Many of my heroes were actors.

Johnny Depp was...

the biggest one at the time.

Everything he was capable of
doing, the personas he could do.

This fascinated me.

Everyone said, when I was growing up:

"Mike should model. Mike should act."

It was great. So, I found
a good manager and

did several jobs.
Especially for printed matter.

I couldn't stop doing these jobs.

He was excited and excited.

We are from a Midwestern city
and that was very new and different

and Mike seemed very excited to do it.

I had a good life growing up.

I started doing operas
and things like that

with my grandmother at
the Houston Grand Opera.

I remember walking in at

the very end of the opera

acting memory I have.

I became interested in acting and

I don't know where it comes from, but...

This is California.
This is where you get it.

People kill themselves
to get here, you know?

I grew up on this since I was 5 years old.

I've been to "Gilbert Grape"

I've been in a few other films.

I was in "The Apostle"

with Robert Duvall and Farrah Fawcett.

The audition process was
we met with Robert Duvall,

he sat at the piano

I showed up with the kids.

It took a while to understand that...

Kids need entrepreneurs,
just like everyone else.

I am one of the founding members of the

Screen Actors Guild
Young Performer Committee,

which is now SAG AFTRA.

I was chairman of the
Committee in the past.

Now I'm just a field soldier.

Children, for the most
part, are willing to listen.

They are ready to absorb things.

They have not yet developed

any preconceived ideas

about who they are and
how they will get somewhere.

We try to advise them...

which direction to follow
and, in doing so, you

will also be entrepreneurship
for your parents.

When parents enter the
entertainment business it

is typically because their
children asked them to,

because it is their son's
dream or because someone

approached them and
told them that their son,

In some way, it serves the industry.

They have no idea how
the medium actually works.

Many kids I knew were emancipated because

they wanted the studios
to see them as adults

and didn't need to pay a set teacher

having parents in the set and so on.
It's easier to get hired.

The actor is responsible...

for his photo and resume.

I get irritated when the
actor arrives and says:

"My mother is with
them in the waiting room."

Your mother should never
have your photo and resume,

unless she got them from the printer.

At 8 years old, you are responsible

for your own career.

The internet changed everything for us.

We were very surprised to

learn that photos of our children

were being sold on eBay.

Just regular headshots.

Nothing erotic or erratic.

Our children were not famous at all.

They worked, but they
didn't care if anyone

cared that photos of
them were sold on eBay.

However, it was clear that they were

sold and were being
sold for a lot of money.

And you ask yourself: who wants
a photo of my son for 300 dollars?

Plus a printed photo
that we send for free.

We started an investigation process

and started by putting together a matrix

the photographers, salespeople
and what each one did.

We were very shocked to learn

that they were very close to us.

Very, very close.

My cousin Darian worked all the time.

He participated in about 50 auditions...

over a period of two months or so.

It looked like he was really going to...

be successful.

All this happened because of his cousin.

He had already signed a
contract with his manager.

My parents and my sister came and said:

"Darian is doing great with

Marty and you should see it."

Martin Weiss, better known as Marty,

was a businessman in

Hollywood for probably 15 years.

He managed child actors.

Boys and girls, but mostly boys.

Marty had a close
relationship with his clients.

They spent the night
with him at home regularly;

he had acting parties
with clients, regularly.

He took them all to Trick
or Treat on Halloween

together and he dressed
up as a dinosaur, a shark,

or something like the Grinch.

He was very aggressive as a businessman.

Honestly, he was really good.

Clients got auditions. They got work.

He said I needed to sing some songs

and make them look really good.

You will meet a producer,
sign a record deal;

you can...

star in Disney Channel programs.

What kid doesn't want that, right?

It happened very quickly.

I remember him signing a contract
with Marty when he was 9 years old.

Actually, I didn't think

Honestly, nothing much would happen.

Our next artist

began his singing career
less than 1 year ago

and has already caught the attention
of important people in the industry.

I remember I was at the Young Artist Awards.

He was excited. He got ready and...

he was a little nervous.

So do we!

Maybe we were more nervous than he was.

For us, it was very exciting

and we were very proud of Evan

and there was the
impression... At least, I

had the impression
that it was for Evan too.

When he was singing, he acted naturally.

Marty called me one day...

and said, "Evan, surprise!

You'll be in a Burger King commercial."

It was exciting because I had never

done a commercial or been in one.

Great to see your son
on TV for the first time.

That. We were very proud.

Marty really...

You did a lot for Evan.

My parents dropped my brother and

I off at my aunt's house we met Marty,

he took my cousins, my brother and me...

and we went to play basketball in the park.

He was actually nice.

and I thought he had no problem.

My cousin and him
already seemed to be friends

and there was no filter.

They said what they wanted.

As far as we knew, he was...

a nice guy, and over the years he became

more or less, part of the family.

Marty came every weekend,

every holiday, every Christmas...

and every birthday.

We were playing basketball and...

He kept telling weird jokes like:

"Evan, do you know what a blowjob is?"

It made me feel like
I didn't fit in because

I didn't know some of these terms yet.

I had...

11 years.

We learned that Marty had
no family, he was alone...

and he became a kind of...

I don't know if the word would be

"adopted", but he
became part of the family.

Later that night...

He said, "Why don't we talk about music?"

I was in the front passenger seat.

He drove and we
talked about things like...

I said the artists I liked and...

Marty suddenly

He said, "Have you ever...

Have you seen an older man's penis?"

And I kept thinking...

"Wow. That's kind of weird."

I didn't mean to be disrespectful...

and get out of the car.

What was I going to do? I was in

the middle of nowhere with this guy.

I replied: "No. I've never seen...

an older man's penis."

AND...

we went out, walked
and arrived at a park.

There was a tree...

he pushed me against the tree and said:

"I'll show you what a blowjob is."

I kept saying, "No, no."

I didn't know what to do after that.

Around November 2009 I

became aware of this problem

of child abuse in Hollywood.

There are children...

who are aspiring actors.

Because of these aspirations, they

end up being easy targets for someone.

In some cases, there are
parents who ignore common

precautions and allow their
children to open up to adults,

when parents would normally be attentive.

Any actor is vulnerable in this position.

Actors pose...

in the hands of teachers,

agents, businesspeople, publicists

and give them complete trust.

Sometimes you have to wake
up very early for auditions.

That's when...

Michael Harrah approached me and said:

"You can stay at my house with

the other guys who are there."

He had three guys in his house.
They were customers.

Many of the kids I worked with

wouldn't have the slightest chance

to take advantage, being in this field,

if they had moved their families here.

There were 10, 9 year old boys

to 16, 17 years old.

But even so, I thought it
was very strange, you know?

Someone let their 10
year old son go live...

at the time, I think he was in his 50s.

I understand the possibility

of things being misinterpreted

and I tried to be very aware of that.

It doesn't matter how closely
you work with someone

and, in fact, we work closely
with clients in these situations,

There still needs to be a
professional boundary where it says:

"We don't go beyond it."

We care about strangers.
Don't leave your child with strangers.

Everyone is inclined to think

that a pedophile is a type of rapist,

But that's not how they operate.

They use a process called grooming

which is a slow and painstaking way

of convincing children
and parents to trust them.

The criminal, in these types of situations,

has an ideal layer.

It's their environment.
They are creating

or constructing a reality for themselves

that accommodates their
patterns of sexual desire.

The predator looks at this as a way...

to chart a path for the person's life.

Create a personal relationship with

the child and be there to bond with them.

Typically, a predator preys on

many children at the same time

and there are different
levels in the grooming process

because the predator
knows, like a tiger in the jungle,

that he won't catch all the rabbits.

He just needs to catch the weakest ones.

We went back and started

trying to make a kind of compiled

to try to determine how
widespread this problem is.

Marty was well known in the community.

He had friends who were

buying and selling photos on eBay.

We began to see that some of

these sellers were convicted abusers.

We learned that he was involved with

another convicted abuser, Bob Villard,

who sold photos on eBay.

Bob Villard was a very prominent

publicist in the 80s in Hollywood.

I met Bob Villard
casually, as someone in the

industry, and he was
a publicist a few times

for clients I had.

He looked after big names like

Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio.

He was well known as a publicist.

Bob Villard was also a photographer.

I met Bob Villard as
a publicist who was a

great photographer,
brought exposure and so on,

and that's who I trusted,
through Michael Harrah.

He was one of the
biggest sellers on eBay.

It became obvious to us that Bob

Villard was selling
photos of poses he took.

If you spent a weekend

there, he felt very comfortable

to try to touch you when
you had a few beers

or it was always nice to have the beers

for him to try to touch me.

We always recognized his photo style

because he always
left the kids shirtless,

always got the angle from top to bottom

so that the children
looked up as if they were

looking at the predator
in an abusive situation.

Bob Villard was a businessman, publicist.

He had contacts.

I say the number one problem in Hollywood

It was, is, and always will be pedophilia!

There was a circle of older men,

and they have their power

or connections with great powers

who surrounded themselves
around groups of boys.

- And this on a large scale?
- Yes.

I was surrounded by them.

They were everywhere, like vultures.

For us, this connected a lot of people.

To find out the connections that got

kids hooked, we start
to look at patterns.

One of Bob Villard's
favorites was Brock Pierce.

He was the kind of
kid in the casual photos

being sold by Bob
Villard's seller on eBay.

Brock, in the photos, was young.

He looked to be 13, 14 years old.

Brock Pierce, in turn, was linked

to Marc Collins-Rector and Chad Shackley.

We saw that they had
a company called DEN.

Looking at it from above, it even

seems logical for a
child actor to grow up

and use the money you perhaps earned

as a child and start an internet company.

When we started to
realize what this really was,

it became a much bigger thing.

I was a New York police

detective, I went to law school,

I was a stockbroker and
then I went back to writing.

I've uncovered big cases over the years.

I was very happy to reveal great cases.

At the end of the 90s I learned

about the Internet Bubble.

And it was extraordinary.
Many people lost fortunes.

One of the companies was
Digital Entertainment Network

It came to me by chance
and I read a little about it.

And I thought it would be a good story.

In the 80s, it was MTV that captured

the attention of young
people around the world.

However, young people are going online.

A company called Digital
Entertainment Network

believes he has the chance
to become the new sensation.

They create television programming,

exclusively for the internet.

The internet makes DEN different

from other internet
companies that came before.

It's a fusion of the marketing
power of Madison Avenue...

with Silicon Valley technology

and Hollywood entertainment.

They aimed programming
mainly at young people.

It was a totally new concept.

Most young people these days don't
see themselves reflected on television.

We create content targeted to your needs

your wishes, your desires.

We are creating a new
form of entertainment to meet

the global young audience.

put like 5 million into it.

There must have been more
than 150 million put into this.

15 years later, 150 million
is still a large amount.

he was very theatrical, very dramatic.

acting when I was around 5 years old.

I had an audition and met him.

I met Marc Collins-Rector
and other people there.

Everyone seemed impressed:

Being in the spotlight like that.

I thought he was cool.
That he was a good guy.

I thought he was cool, you know?

How do I feel working on
the Royal Standard set?

Excellent! The team is wonderful!

It's a lot of fun to
work on green screen.

I still learn more martial
arts than I already know.

It is very fun. It is wonderful.

We are in the basement of my house.

This is where Mark
basically lived for a few years.

He spent most of his time here.

He was like a hermit down here.

This was where he hid.

I was looking for some documentation.

Mike asked me to look for
some of Mark's documentation.

Mark had a copy and Mike had a copy.

I came and found these documents.
I found Mark's testimonies.

Mark says:

"I met Michael Egan in 1999

when I moved to Los Angeles."

He called us and said he was

working for a company called DEN.

I knew he was very happy.

It was a big step for him.

Mike was with him at the time.

I already knew Marc Collins-Rector,
Chad Shackley and Brock Pierce.

It was at graduation
at our private school.

There were few people in my class.

Scott Shackley was
Chad's younger brother.

So I was introduced to
them and they gave me

a job as an actor at DEN in a series.

Marc Collins-Rector showed me the house,

The pool was unbelievable.
There was a swim-up bar in it.

I remember lunch being
served by a butler and the chef

would come and take us
lunch from the swim-up pool bar.

Literally, it was like going
to Disney for the first time.

It was like, "This is amazing!"

This house can definitely
give you an advantage.

It seems good!

Before I went to the house,
Scott said, "My house is different.

The dynamics in my house
are not the same as in any other.”

who make the show happen.

We're a cool bunch.

"Brock Pierce told me they would

aged 14, 15.

Anyone who clashed with
him would not enter that place.

I don't remember his name.

A boy who was at the Royal Standard.

Marc at the auditions.

They went to auditions to
choose the ones they wanted.

And I remember this younger boy.

A blond boy. I don't remember his name,

but I remember Marc
eagerly going after him.

Do I remember the first time?
Yes I recall.

He picked me up at the studios,

He took me to his house and...

along the way, he asked

me if I liked boys or girls.

I said I liked girls.

And he was fine with it:

"The secret to picking up girls is...

put a sock in your underwear to

make your 'package' look bigger."

So when we got to the house,

He took a sock, straightened it and said:

"It's like this, understand?"

At one point he said:

"You know what?
Why don't you take off your clothes?

Take off your clothes and
let me see what you look like.”

I don't know why I took it off, but I

took it off, and he
looked at me and said:

"Yes yes".

That night he dressed me

in someone else's clothes

and he wanted to take me out to dinner...

and asked about detoxing him.

seizure and heart failure."

I wanted to do it alone.

He tried to stop drinking altogether.
