about what the last thing
I'd see on Earth would be.

In the end, this wasn't
the kind of bright light

I expected.

No one knew I was gone yet.

In this moment,
to everyone who loved me,

I was still alive,

not discarded with my coat
like trash in the alley.

Now all that's left is
my legacy and my legend.

It suddenly seems
more than a coincidence

that those are the names
I chose for my daughters.

For me, this was the end.

But for the cops
solving my murder,

it was just the beginning.

My name is Monique Baugh.

And this is Me Hereafter.

So December 31, 2019,

I was on call
as a homicide investigator

with my partner,
Sergeant Benner.

New Year's Eve,
I thought I was gonna meet

with friends or family.

Right when I was just letting
my guard down

and getting into fun mode,

I get the phone call

that a body was found
in an alley

and that we were
officially up.

ShotSpotters picked up
three shots being fired

at 6:38 p.m...

In the 1300 block
of Queen to Russell.

It's a violent area.

Much of North Minneapolis
is violent.

In big-time city life,
a lot of the homicides

occur after a gun battle
between two people or more.

Not too often is there
just a body found.

They found a body
of a young female

in the alleyway.

It stood out right away.

She was shot
several times.

We knew
that she had, essentially,

been shot and killed right
where she ended up laying.

It's dark out at this time.

I remember a lot of snow.

Police lights are
reflecting off the windows.

As you get closer, you see

red coloring from the blood.

There was at least
one or two spent shell casings

that were silver in color

that I knew to be
a .45 caliber

just because of the size.

And there was also
a half-empty realtor lockbox

that was on the ground.

I knew it was going to play
some type of evidentiary role

just because it was so unique.

I just didn't know
what that role would be.

I loved selling houses.

I honestly think it's
what I was destined to do.

Hey, everybody.

I wanted to take a minute out
of my day to make this video

for my family and friends.

Some of you know,
but for those of you who don't,

I am in real estate.

And I feel truly blessed.

I'm learning from the best
agents in the industry.

And I really just wanna spread
this knowledge,

this joy that I have.

I really just want to help you.

I'd been a server
at restaurants

around town for ages.

But just this past year,
I wanted more.

I wanted a career,
and the Minneapolis area

of real estate market was hot.

It was a great place
to get my start.

She did ask my advice.
You know, "What do you think?"

And I said, "You know what?"
You know, "Go for it."

I was so proud of her.

And she was so passionate
about what she did.

I used to tell her
she's my favorite daughter.

And she'd go, "Oh, Mom,
I'm your only daughter."

I said, "Yeah, that's why
you're my favorite."

What she would do is usually,

like, she would go on, uh--

she would Snapchat
like the whole house.

So we're here
in the condo in Bloomington.

Very nice.

They kept this one up
really good.

Everything's
super pristine and clean.

She'll walk in.

She'll do the living room,

the dining room, kitchen,

show however many bedrooms
there is.

The day
before New Year's Eve,

an opportunity came up
to cram in one last sale

before the new year.

So when I got
a voice mail yesterday

to show this house
in the suburb of Maple Grove,

I was excited.

Hi, Monique.

My name is Lisa Pawloski.

And I'm interested
in the property

Niagara Lane North,

Maple Grove, Minnesota.

Just give me a call.

Lisa would be a new client.

And I was eager to meet her.

We settled on 11:00.

While I was waiting for her,

I ran into another agent

who was also showing
the vacant house.

We were chatting
when Lisa called

and asked a strange question
about the stove.

But then she never showed.

It was weird.

But I was learning that,
in this business,

sometimes people were no-shows

and you had to brush it off.

I'd only been at this
for a few months,

but I was finding my groove.

The end of Monique's 2019,

she was just focusing

on being a mom
and selling houses.

She was just family oriented.

Monique spent a lot of time
with her cousins.

It was amazing to watch them
as little girls,

then see them getting dressed
to go out to the nightclub,

doing their makeup,
and then having kids.

Legend was born 2016,

and then Legacy
came shortly after, in 2018.

She was a wonderful mother,
wonderful, wonderful mother.

She would do anything
for her girls.

My boyfriend and I

couldn't get enough
of our two girls.

Jon Momoh is the father

of Monique's two children.

That was the love
of her life.

She did love him very much.

Momoh's a rapper.

He's done a lot of songs
with major artists:

Nipsey Hussle, Lil Baby.

♪ Somebody got to die today ♪

He was very flashy,

and I know Monique did like

some flashy things as well.

I think that's what
kind of gravitated her

towards him, and just kind
of like the lifestyle,

and the money,
and her being able to have

someone that's gonna take care
of her

and her girls financially.

Momoh and I--we had
our rough patches for sure,

but he had potential.

That's what I always told
my mom.

For New Year's Eve
the next day,

we each had our own plans.

He was going out,
but I was having cousin night

with my family and the kids.

I was bringing
the salsa verde.

Monique started
the cousin night.

And we would
all just get together,

pretty much, and either just
drink, play games, eat food.

Just before Christmas,
we had a cousin night.

We did truth or dare,
things like that.

Monique ran out into the snow
in her bare feet

for 30 seconds.

My son had dared her
to do that.

Shortly after, we said, "Well,
let's just do the same thing

and just bring in the
New Year's with the kids."

But first, the client, Lisa,

who had bailed the day before,

had set up another showing
at 3:00

at the house in Maple Grove.

This is a property that
I'm really interested in,

and I'm hoping that,
after the walkthrough,

that, um, it is one
that I decide to go with.

Momoh agreed
to watch the girls

at the house I shared
with my mom while I was gone.

He ended up getting there--

I think it was
about, like, 2:15.

It didn't leave
much time to make it

across town for the showing.

♪ ♪

The house on Niagara Lane
was beautiful

and in a safe neighborhood.

It wouldn't stay
on the market for long.

We were on the phone,

and finally, when she does get
to the house, it's 3:00.

You know, she's setting up.

She's like, "Ugh, I don't think
these guys

"are gonna show up

"because they didn't show up

to my showing
that was on Monday."

I was like, "Oh, well,
if they don't show up,

"then, you know, just cancel.

They're clearly
playing games."

And she was like, "Oh, yeah."

She was like,
"If they're not here by 3:10,

I'm going to leave."

So I'm, "Okay, well, yeah."

So we're still on the phone.

She's showing me the house.
I'll never forget.

It's a great kitchen
that they had in there.

But at this time, she's like,
"Yeah, Josie,

I think I'm gonna start
packing up."

So I'm like,
"Yeah, I think you should.

And then she goes,
"Oh, actually, they're here.

"They're here now.

I'll call you back
once I'm done."

She clearly didn't get
a chance to call back.

♪ ♪

I had called her back
at about--

I think I called her
about 3:30.

And I was getting ready
to head to work.

And we usually talk
when I go to work.

God, if only
I could have answered.

But Josie thought I did
because a text was sent.

Said,
"Can I call you back?"

At this point,
I was like, "Okay."

Josie knew

the generic text
wasn't like me.

Neither was
what happened next.

About 3:45,
I text her back again,

and I got ignored.

They tossed my phone.

There would be no way
to trace it to find me.

No one even knew
I'd been kidnapped.

We end up finding out, uh,

she was tied up already
at that point.

So when I was calling,
that wasn't her responding.

It was them.

♪ ♪

I wasn't really quite sure

what she had planned
for New Year's Eve.

I didn't know anything
about a showing.

I didn't realize Momoh was
there, watching the kids.

All I know is,
I--I went to work as usual.

When I got off,
it was about 5:55.

I went to my--my locker.

And, um, the first thing
I always do is check my phone.

And I see that I had a text

from my neighbor,
uh, next door

and said, "Call me."

I called him right away,
and he says, um, "You know,

a guy got shot at your house."

I said, "No."

And I said, um,
"Where's my daughter?"

And he says, "I don't know."

I tried calling Monique
several times,

and I never got an answer.

That's not like her.

♪ ♪

When I showed up,
Momoh was shot multiple times.

I didn't know exactly
how many times,

but I knew it was
multiple times.

He'd already been
rushed from the scene

with critical injuries.

It would be hours
before anyone would know

if he'd live or die.

My mom was terrified.

Where was I?

I went straight
to my grandbabies.

I asked Legend,
you know, "Where's Mommy?"

And she says,
"Mommy's at work."

That's not unusual
for her to--to be at work.

There was a lot of officers
all over the house.

As it was going on,
I just had this bad feeling.

♪ ♪

When I didn't answer
a text cops had her send me,

she told them
it wasn't like me at all.

She says
that it's super weird.

She, like, is a realtor.

She went to a showing today.

Even if she is on a showing,
if I can call her,

she'll at least, um,
"I can't talk right now."

-Right.
- No one's heard from her.

I didn't know
what was going on.

All I wanted to know is,
"Where is my daughter?"

I'm just really scared
for my daughter.

I'm really scared for my--

Um, actually, we're
trying to figure that out now.

Okay.
So we're trying to get

some of that, uh,
squared away here for you.

Thank you.

Is there a picture
of her anywhere?

My daughter?
Yes.

Right--yes.

There's a picture
of all of them

right there
right in the middle.

-This is her?
-Yeah.

I said,
"Maybe she's been taken.

Maybe someone took her."

And he's like,
"Who would have taken her?"

I said, "I don't know.
Whoever did this."

Any mom will tell
you, we have instincts.

And those instincts
should be trusted.

My mom was right.

I was in danger.

And she herself found
the evidence to prove it

hiding in plain sight:

my key.

The key was
a very distinctive key

because I had it made for her.

It was a purple key
with a butterfly on it.

That key was laying

on an area rug
in the living room.

And it was just single.

It wasn't on a keychain.

It was just a key
laying on the rug.

My key
shouldn't have been there

if I wasn't.

She was right to be worried,
right to be desperate,

though she never could have
known I'd been kidnapped.

♪ ♪

It quickly became clear to me

what the men who took me wanted.

They wanted the key
to get into the house

to get to Momoh.

♪ ♪

My mom believes

I held out giving it to them

for as long as I could...

Even as I was bound and gagged
with Gorilla tape.

That's because our girls
were with him.

She figured
that I would realize

that if I waited until 5:30,

Legacy and Legend
would be down for their naps,

that they'd be safe
even if Momoh wouldn't be.

♪ ♪

They didn't care.

They walked right past
the Christmas tree,

right past Legend,
who was sleeping on the couch,

and went right up
and just start

shooting bullets at Momoh.

Momoh goes to the room,
Monique's room.

Legacy is laying right there.

Those bullets--
by the grace of God,

those bullets didn't hit
those babies.

♪ ♪

Even if I did enough

to keep my babies alive,

it wouldn't be enough for me.

Almost exactly one hour
after Momoh was shot,

I was shot to death
in the alley.

Shortly after
we arrived on scene

where Monique had been found,

I was notified by my lieutenant
of the other crime scene.

We learned that there
was a missing girlfriend

who was unaccounted for.

I was talking with
Sergeant Suchta at the time,

and right away, he's like,
"You know what? Um...

I think I'm gonna go
check out that scene."

♪ ♪

So when I arrived,

inside the house
was several bullet holes

going to the upstairs,

some .45 caliber
spent shell casings.

And then,
in the upstairs bedroom

where Jon Momoh would
often sleep with his children

was a pool of blood
in which he was found

by paramedics and officers.

I really wanted to understand
what exactly took place

and piece it together
with the homicide scene.

At this point,
police had a pretty good idea

the two shootings
were connected,

but my mom didn't.

I do remember the officer.

He asked me about Monique's,
you know, tattoos.

And I'm thinking,
"Finally, finally,

they're going to look for her."

Ma'am,

does--uh, does Monique
have any tattoos?

Yes.

What is it?

She has one
at the very bottom

of her pelvis that says
"heartbreaker."

Okay. Thank you.

She's not--she's isn't--
she's--

I'm still trying
to figure that out, okay?

Now, looking back at it,

I--I knew that they were
just wanting

to identify the body
that was in the alley.

Hold on one sec, buddy.

Stand by.

Fuck.
So that's, uh--

that's the mother
of the two kids from this one.

Yep.

Um, 'cause she just said
the heartbreaker tattoo.

Telling Wanda that Monique
had been shot and killed

was extremely difficult.

She wanted to know
if Monique was safe.

I knew I was gonna have
to tell her

that her daughter had been shot
and killed in murder.

When I shared
that news with her,

Wanda was just absolutely
hysterical, of course,

as any loving parent would be.

So I tried my best
to console her.

I wanted her to know
from the get-go

that we were very serious
about her case

and that we were going
to work very hard

to bring justice to her family.

I mean,
she was so--so precious.

And I just--

how could you do that
to another human being?

How could you do that?

And she wasn't just
another human being.

She was my baby, my baby.

♪ ♪

Across town,
my cousins were worried

I hadn't arrived
for cousin night.

The very last text

I received from Monique

was that she was going
to bring the taco sauce.

Every time we saw lights,
we're like,

"Oh, that's Monique."

But we were calling Monique,

and her phone was just going
straight to voicemail.

As time went by,

I called my Aunt Wanda,

and I said, um,

"Where's Monique?
We're all waiting for her."

And she just said,
"Monique's dead."

And I hung up.

And I didn't know
what to think after that.

Everywhere in the city,

the night crackled

with the anticipation
of the new year.

But my mom--she wished
she could go back in time.

I felt like a zombie.

All I could think of is,
is she really gone?

Family gathered
at the hospital

where my body was brought

and where Momoh was in surgery

after surviving
the initial shooting.

I was just trying to
understand who Jon Momoh was.

What was he like?
Did he have any enemies?

What was his relationship
with Monique?

It seemed like this was
not really about Monique.

One thing that
really caught my attention

was when Wanda told me

that Jon Momoh was a rapper,

and recently,
he had done a video in which

he was in a shower

with a large amount of cash

and he was showering himself

with just this high volume
of cash.

And he's singing along
to one of his songs.

Then he proceeds
to put it in the dryer.

Clean the dirty money, G.

Fuck you mean?

I realized it was my shower
and my dryer.

And I told Monique--I said,

"This image will get us killed

for a like, a share,
or a love."

That was posted
on December 16th.

December 31st,
Monique was taken.

That was very significant,

because now we're starting
to understand a possible motive

in this homicide.

♪ ♪

It's very odd to have
multiple crime scenes.

At that time, I was still
focused at our crime scene.

I'm trying to make sure
any cameras in the area

get preserved right away.

That's one of the things
that's first on my list.

One house at the end
of the alley had video,

and officers were able
to view it.

A U-Haul was seen
exiting the alley

after the shots were fired.

Shortly after I received
that information,

I think I got a call
from my lieutenant,

who said a witness
reported a U-Haul being seen

at the other shooting.

Not a lot of times
is your suspect vehicle

an enormous storage vehicle.

I'm like, "I don't know
who these guys are,

"but if they think
they're gonna outsmart

"the investigators,

they're not gonna win
this one."

Monique's black BMW
was missing.

We got the plate
of that vehicle.

Shortly after that,
we were notified

by Maple Grove
Police Department

that Monique's Black BMW

was found at an empty house
that was being sold.

♪ ♪

We arrive late at night.

It's a beautiful neighborhood,
beautiful house.

Very strange scene.

Upon entering the house,

we noticed that the lockbox

was half empty.

So that other half
that was on scene

where Monique was murdered,

we knew that that was going
to match the lockbox

that was on the house itself.

Police would wonder
if I kept it on purpose,

one of many clues
I might have left behind

to help them solve the case.

We see
a pink acrylic fingernail.

That was a little bit creepy.

That was something
out of a movie.

That showed signs
of a struggle, in my mind.

♪ ♪

Most importantly,
what we found there

was video surveillance
across the street.

That's when
the whole case opened up.

And the best way to describe
how the U-Haul arrived--

it was almost watching Jaws...

Like when you see
the fin in the water come by.

It was almost that creepy.

Winds to the street,
then comes back around.

And when it comes back around,

a person exits
from where it last was seen.

Person saunters
up to the door,

just walks right in,

and stays in there
for a while,

I think approximately,
like, ten minutes.

And as you're watching,
the driver of the U-Haul

pulls right up
in the driveway, very bold.

He gets out.

He's a bigger man
than the other person.

He just walks right
into the house.

Minutes later,
the garage door opens.

That's when he repositioned
the U-Haul,

enters the house again.

And we notice that when
the two men come out--

and one of the men
is shuffling.

And we found that the man
had grabbed Monique

from behind her and was kind
of walking and pushing her

to the back of the truck.

The U-Haul arrived
about 3:00,

and they left around 3:17.

And the shooting
at Momoh's house

happened at 5:40 p.m.

To this day, you wonder

what was going on
in the back of that U-Haul.

This drives me crazy,

thinking about
all the what-ifs,

the what-ifs.

What did they do?
What did they say?

You know, how she felt.

Some people
would take to social media

to say my murder was my fault,

that I dated a rapper
and was asking for trouble.

But I loved him because
he was more than his image.

We had one last date night together

just two days
before I died and he lived.

Went out to eat,
candles, flowers.

She had 17 cards

of the reasons
why she cares about me.

I never would have thought
of it in a million years

that this would be
my children's mother

and that we'd be spending
in life together forever.

Like, that was the plan.

♪ I didn't want your vibe,
no really, your vibe ♪

♪ I didn't like your vibe ♪

I was pursuing my music career
at the same time, you know.

So that took me being
in different places,

clubs, here and there,

which I didn't always
bring Monique with me

because I didn't want
to expose her,

let everybody know
who my girl was,

just because
of how the industry goes

and the hatred.

And people will kill
what you love.

And that's been proven to me.

♪ ♪

When we went to the hospital

to interview Momoh,

it was tough.

Jon Momoh was in
pretty serious condition.

I was just foggy.

I was under
a lot of medication.

I said, "Where's Monique?

"I want to talk to Monique.
Where is she at?"

We realized that
we're gonna be the ones

that had to tell him
that the mother

of his children was dead.

"Oh, man, we gotta
tell you something."

I'm like, "What are you
talking about," right?

"Oh, yeah, um...

Monique was murdered
last night."

"What?

"What do you mean, Monique
was murdered last night?

Better stop playing with me."

I broke down, like, period.

Like...

I cried so many tears, I--

I don't even got no more
to give.

After they broke
the news I'd been murdered,

police asked Momoh
to tell them

everything he remembered

before, during, and after
he was shot.

I remember giving
Monique a kiss,

saying,
"I will see you later."

She walked out that door,
and that was the last time

I would ever see
my baby again,

not even thinking
nothing about it.

And it makes me just think
all the type of stuff

that we take for granted
in life,

not even knowing.

This really might be your
last time seeing this person.

I'm sitting there
on these stairs.

I was calling Monique.

I called her ninety times.
She wasn't picking up.

I'm like "What is going on?"

If Monique say she's gonna be
there at a certain time,

she's there.

So we're getting
30 minutes, an hour later,

something's not right.

Like, what's really going on?

But I'm not thinking this.

I'm not thinking
that somebody kidnapped her.

I just can't put
my finger on it.

But something's not right.

Next thing I know,
the door opens up.

That must be her.

Somebody in all-black,
black mask,

gun instantly blazing.

I got hit three times
down here in my leg.

I got hit right here, a bullet
right here in the back,

and they hit me one time
right behind my right--

right next to my heart,
inch away from my heart.

I got shot in my armpit,

right where I was holding
my baby girl

before I put her to sleep
like this.

And my other baby girl asleep
on the couch

when the shooter came and shot
straight over her head

and hitting me,
which instantly woke her up.

And I'm laying in a pool
full of blood in the room.

One of the unique things
that Jon Momoh told us

that the shooter
was wearing is--

he said he was wearing
a cotton ski mask

with just one hole that would
expose the eyes.

We're confident
that the whole reason

for getting Monique
was just to get to him.

We asked him, like, who did
he think could have done this?

I could tell he wasn't sure,
but he did mention a name.

On New Year's Eve
just after dark,

police say 28-year-old
Monique Baugh

was shot to death in an alley
near 13th Avenue and Russell.

Family says Baugh was
an ascending realtor

who had dreams of making it
big for her daughters.

I asked to be assigned
to this case

when I heard about it.

It was a crazy story

with an elaborate plot,
and a lot of people,

and a beautiful and entirely
innocent young woman

who was the victim,
and it just seemed unthinkable.

Legend.

What are you doing?

-Watertown.
- Give me a kiss.

They begin the investigation,

and they start piecing
things together.

And that starts with talking
to Jon Mitchell-Momoh.

When he's asked
if there's anybody

who has a grudge against him,

if there's anybody who has
a beef with him,

he mentions LA.

And LA, we come to find out,
is Lyndon Wiggins.

Lyndon Wiggins
was an extremely efficient,

profitable distributor

of illegal narcotics.

All that is true,

but that's not
how Momoh knew him.

They had both been
artists involved

with the same rap label.

They both had signed
contracts with Black Big.

Each of them
made their own music videos

for the label for a while.

He said,
"I had a falling out with LA.

"He got dropped
from the record label.

He got very jealous."

When they first met,

Momoh and LA
were aspiring rappers.

They met in Minneapolis
at the clubs.

And I knew him, too.

Monique knew him very well.

She went to Puerto Rico
with him.

We've all been out
to clubs with him.

Momoh and LA
were close for a while

as they each tried
to build their brands.

We was going
to California, Miami,

and all these different places
that they were going,

and doing shows,
and hanging out, you know,

renting out
these fancy cars and...

And that was all great then.

And then that it kind of
came towards a halt

when they lived in California.

Everything was all good

until Momoh started working
on "Westside,"

a song that
an established rapper,

Nipsey Hussle,
took an interest

in being a part of.

LA got jealous and recorded
a track for Momoh to consider.

He's, all of a sudden, inspired.

He wants to put a verse
on my songs now.

♪ Meet me on the west side ♪

♪ We be coming pool side ♪

But Momoh recorded
"West Side" with Nipsey Hussle

and didn't feature LA.

It was the beginning
of the end

of their relationship.

Momoh's star was rising
as LA's was falling.

I do know that there
was a falling out.

There was a lot
of money involved,

a lot of money that got cut.

It seemed to be over jealousy.

I guess he felt a certain
type of way about that.

But we were left shaking hands
like, "Man, I love you."

At that point,
I don't think he has

any reason to think that
LA wants him dead necessarily.

But he identifies him
as somebody

that has a problem with him.

You hear about stories
on the news

about record labels
and rap beefs

that end up
in shooting and murders.

And, well, you hope that

you're not gonna be
investigating something

so stupid in your life.

We get back to the station
and so much has happened,

more than
any other crime scene,

within the first hours
of arriving.

This was definitely
the most complex homicide

I've--I've investigated.

Even though he mentioned LA,

Momoh and police weren't sure
he was involved.

The thing is, LA is not

the man who kidnapped me,

who pulled the trigger
and shot me to death,

who left my body
in the alley,

sprawled across
the dirty snow.

We're trying
to think of the next step.

Importantly,

the thing on my mind
is finding this U-Haul.

We have to find this U-Haul.

We happen to have
a license plate reader.

We were able to read
the license plate.

The U-Haul had
already been returned.

♪ ♪

When I went there
that morning

to see the U-Haul,

the cargo area door was up

'cause it was airing out.

And it was airing out because
there's puddles of bleach

and/or ammonia
that was strong.

The back of the U-Haul
was empty.

And there were four pink
acrylic fingernails,

just like the one I found
in the house.

In the front
passenger door

was a Gorilla tape wrapper.

We knew at that time
that that was going to be

our homicide suspect vehicle.

It was the same brand
of tape my kidnappers used

to tape me up.

We identified
who the person was

that rented out the U-Haul.

Her and her boyfriend
came downtown,

gave us a statement,

and they simply told us,
"We are both drug users.

"We were approached
by Cedric Berry,

"who stated that he would
pay us in heroin

to rent a U-Haul for him."

Cedric Berry was
a very familiar person

to law enforcement.

He might have been
familiar to law enforcement,

but I'd never seen him
before in my life.

When we first
identified Cedric Berry,

we didn't know the motive.

Cedric Berry does not know
Monique or Jon Mitchell-Momoh.

They've never met,
which, you know,

makes him an odd suspect.

As they tried to figure out

why Cedric was involved,

they looked for hard evidence
to link him to my murder.

There really is no such
thing as the perfect crime.

There's always something
that we can find.

The question is, do we find it?
Are we able to find it?

The answer
in this case was yes.

Every time the tape
sealed my wrists together,

my fingers would throb.

It was so tight, so much tape,
like a boxing glove.

They wouldn't stop.

And now I'm glad they didn't.

Six of his prints, fingerprints,

were lifted off
the adhesive side

of that Gorilla tape.

You know, this is--
everything is just

piling on like he's our guy.

He's our guy.

Uh, we know there's at least
one other person, though.

Who was the other man
in the U-Haul?

The cops knew he was
too big to be LA.

One of the officers
knew that Berry Davis

was a close associate
with Cedric Berry.

When she watched the video

of the larger male
who got out of the U-Haul

and had that unique gait
walking up to the house,

she was very confident that
that was Berry Davis.

Berry Davis is
Cedric Berry's brother-in-law.

Cedric Berry--he was
a low-level drug dealer

working with and under
Berry Davis,

who has been described to us

as more
of a mid-level drug dealer.

Based just on
their reputations,

you might think this whole
thing was about some kind

of drug deal gone wrong,
but it was

something else about them that
got the attention of the cops.

Berry Davis
and Cedric Berry were

both heroin dealers for LA.

LA. Lyndon Wiggins.

Police couldn't help
but wonder,

was he using
two of his dealers

as foot soldiers
to carry out his revenge?

Lyndon Wiggins.
He also goes by Black Bag LA.

He was one
of the higher-level dealers

of heroin and fentanyl
in the--the metro area.

At the time of my murder,

he was being investigated
by the feds

for his drug operation.

In October of 2019,
myself and some others

had executed
quite a few search warrants.

I'd recovered some cell phones.

In addition
to evidence for their case,

they found text messages where
the rift between LA and Momoh

was laid bare.

Digging through those,
I was able to learn more

about, you know,
what was going on

inside the music business
or that record label.

Mr. Wiggins and Mr. Momoh
had a feud, an ongoing feud,

about a contract issue
related to the record label.

By April of 2019,

the two were
no longer talking.

Then something else happened

to make things even worse.

There was a point
in which Jon Momoh

and some other individuals
were taken into custody

on some firearm charges.

And they were released.

And shortly after that,
Lyndon Wiggins

had a large marijuana grow
outside the state

that was then raided
by law enforcement officials.

Lyndon Wiggins started
to believe

that Jon Momoh snitched
to law enforcement.

LA thought Momoh gave
authorities information

on his drug operation
in exchange

for being released
without charges.

Even though we had
no evidence of that,

that is what LA believed.

Then came what might
have been the final straw.

The social media post

that Jon Mitchell-Momoh made
with all the cash

would have definitely
poured salt

into the wound
of Lyndon Wiggins.

We know that despite
having zero communication

from April of 2019

until the time
this murder happened,

all of a sudden, December 26th,

which is shortly
after these postings,

Lyndon Wiggins was looking up
Jon Mitchell-Momoh's Facebook.

He did that again on the 29th.

Two days later...

I was dead,

which left police thinking
that the timing

couldn't be a coincidence.

So now it was starting
to come together.

Cedric Berry
and Berry Davis--

they are hired hands
by Lyndon Wiggins.

He is going to be
the mastermind behind this.

There was just one problem.

There was no physical evidence
to link LA to my murder

even if he was involved.

We knew that
it was gonna be

a very hard, uphill battle

to prove that Lyndon Wiggins
set this up.

First and foremost,
we wanted to get Cedric Berry

and Berry Davis into custody.

Cedric Berry--he was
taken into custody

at the DoubleTree Hotel.

Berry Davis was captured
on video surveillance

fleeing out of a side door
of the hotel.

We attempt to interview
with Cedric Berry.

And he ends up
not wanting to talk to us.

His exact words were,
"I'm not just gonna sit here

and confess."

Turns out, the stuff
Cedric left in his car

did the talking for him.

It allowed police
to keep building their case.

Cedric Berry's Buick LeSabre,

once we did the search warrant
on it,

we recovered
the black Gorilla tape

that was identical
to the Gorilla tape

that was found
on Monique's wrist

when she was bound.

It matched
the Gorilla tape wrapper

that we found in the front
passenger door of the U-Haul.

We found a black ski mask

with just one hole
for the eyes.

And we found two-way radios.

This is when
I called it a Scooby-Doo plot.

I remember,
I looked at Mark. I'm like,

"What grown men walk around
with walkie-talkies?"

We knew that Cedric Berry
and Berry Davis--

they were to hang out
at a clothing store

up in Brooklyn Center
that was nearby the Walmart.

I remember Sergeant Benner
saying to me,

"I'm gonna go up to Walmart
and see if anybody

purchased some two-way radios."

And I remember
thinking in my head,

"Boy, what a waste of time."

I get to the store.
I find a receipt.

I was like, "Good. Um..."

And they're like,

"Do you wanna know what else
is on the receipt?"

I'm like, "Sure."

And they said, "Well,
there's bleach and ammonia."

When we finally found
the U-Haul

and all you could do
was smell bleach and ammonia,

that doesn't leave your brain,
right?

One of the employees
looks at me and says,

"Do you want me to see
if I can pull up any video?"

And sure enough,

they pulled up the video
from that time and date.

And you saw
a very large person,

Berry Davis.

Eventually,
he was taken into custody.

Police finally
had what they needed

to charge both of them
with my murder.

That was a major break
in the case.

It wouldn't be the only one.

They didn't think
of the possibility

that they were under
video surveillance

when they made purchases.

While they thought
they were smart

to throw my phone away,

they were dumb enough
to keep their own

and to be caught buying
the phone that would yield

the most significant clue
of all

in the mystery of my murder.

I'm part of the FBI's
cellular analysis survey team.

I worked on the cell phone
records of the victim

and the various subjects.

Not only did the FBI
link the suspects' phones

to the scenes of the crimes,

authorities got even more
than they bargained for.

I received
the initial records

for Monique's cell phone

in order to look through
who she was in contact with

leading up to the showing
of the house.

On December 29th
of 2019,

a call comes in
to Monique's cell phone.

And the caller
leaves a voicemail.

We immediately reviewed
that message, listened to it.

Hi, Monique.

My name is, um,
Lisa Pawloski.

And I'm calling because
I'm interested

in one of the properties.

And I actually wanted
to set up a walkthrough.

What we found out
about Monique's showing

is that the person
who is interested

called her personal phone.

That is not a norm
in the realty world.

Not only was that not normal,

the call I got about the stove

the first time I was supposed
to show the house

was weird, too.

The first time that
she schedules a showing

at the Maple Grove address,

Monique gets a phone call
from a female client.

And she says,
"My husband and I have a bet.

Can you tell us if the stove
is gas or electric?"

It was just
a very strange question.

Monique answers the question.

The female and her alleged
husband do not show up.

During that call,
they realized I wasn't alone.

The other realtor was there,

something they'd need
to be sure

wasn't a problem the next day.

What they were doing is,
they were mapping out

how they were going to do
this abduction.

They thought about it.
You know what I mean?

Anybody can call your phone
and have you show up there.

Like, that's kind of scary.

Like who the fuck did that?

To hear
a sweet young lady's voice

that may have possibly
helped set up a murder,

it was a little creepy.

Who would be involved
in such a crime?

Officer Jesse Standal,
who I knew

knew a lot about Momoh and LA,

he just happened
to be walking by.

I recognized the voice
on the voicemail

as Elsa Segura.

She was a Hennepin County
probation officer

that was in a romantic
relationship with Mr. Wiggins.

I had listened
to numerous jail calls, uh,

where Lyndon Wiggins
was calling Elsa Segura.

I knew that was her voice.

Lisa Pawloski
was the fake name

that Elsa Segura,

uh, we believe,
gave to herself.

She had been terminated
prior to this murder.

She had lied to her supervisors

when police had raided
her house

about her relationship
with Wiggins.

When we got the recording

of Elsa Segura
setting this up,

that was the moment
that everything

kind of came together.

And the only reason Elsa Segura
would be making that call

would be because
she was doing it for LA.

We knew we needed
to talk to her right away.

When I first heard
that her showing was a setup,

I didn't initially
believe them.

Like, what?

I mean, so someone told her
to come somewhere

and just set her up?

I was so angry.

Monique should have had
nothing to do with it,

nothing at all to do with it.

Momoh always
kept secret where we lived

and where he'd be
to keep us safe.

The irony is,
that's what got me killed.

The reasonable
inference from the evidence

is that Lyndon Wiggins
approaches Berry Davis

or Berry Davis
and Cedric Berry and says,

"I need you to do something."

And he offers to pay them
either in cash

or in drugs or both.

They purchased what
we called the burner phone

that was used
for the sole purpose of luring

Monique Baugh to that house.

That voicemail was finally
the official tie between LA

and the people that actually
carried out this murder.

So by the time
we arrested Elsa,

she was brought
down to the office,

I was nervous
'cause I was like,

she doesn't have to admit
that is her voice.

We played her the voicemail.

She sat there calmly,
listened to it.

She ended up saying
she did leave the voicemail

but she didn't know what was
gonna happen because of it.

She was clearly lying
and minimizing

about her involvement
the entire time.

The forensic search
of Elsa Segura's phone

revealed some very interesting
Internet history.

She clearly began
having anxiety

the night of the murder.

She began to search
for confession times.

She began to search
for immunity,

specifically immunity
in the law.

And the final search,
which was very interesting,

was for an incinerator.

You saw long conversations
between her and LA.

And so all these things
are just painting the picture

as to her direct role
in this homicide.

Lyndon Wiggins,
because of his personality,

because he thinks
way too highly of himself,

thought that he could talk
his way out of this

and simply just
denied everything.

LA tried to say

was no rift over money
or over snitching,

that he had nothing
to do with my murder.

The charges for all four
of the principals

in this murder were identical.

The indictments were identical.

Prosecutors charged
the key players

with kidnapping and killing me
and trying to kill Momoh.

I knew we had
a great amount of evidence

and the witnesses
were all supreme.

One strategy that we had was

"If Wanda Baugh is talking,
we're winning."

When the trial was
covered for the local news,

everyone got to see just how
powerful her testimony was.

Monique did not have to die.

And you didn't have
to throw her out

like she was garbage either.

My baby was so precious,

so precious to me,
to all of us.

She was so valuable.

How dare they?

Wanda Baugh is
a very special person.

I've never put my face
in front of camera

for any type
of police investigation.

She said, "Sergeant Suchta,
I would just be honored."

She said, "I would just
be honored, um,

for you to tell
Monique's story."

So I promised myself
that I would do this.

And the only reason
I would do it

was to honor Wanda Baugh's life
and her relationship

with her daughter, Monique.

Police say Cedric
Berry fired my fatal shots.

All of my killers
were convicted

and are serving life
in prison.

But it will never
bring me back.

They left me there to die,

my last breath
as cold and sharp

as the bullets
that pierced my body.

And while I never made it
to cousin night for my dinner,

my murderers made it
to theirs,

walking into Applebee's
with friends

shortly after they killed me,

like nothing ever happened.

True justice would be
bringing Monique back to life.

And that's not gonna happen.

She died...

because she was
someone's girlfriend.

She has children by a man
that somebody didn't like,

that somebody had beef with.

I was at every club,
every weekend all the time,

my car parked in the front.

I wasn't hiding.

They could have seen me downtown.

And it could have
just went down

right there
where they see me at.

Involving Monique?

Coward, coward shit, period.

Senseless. Just dumb.

If we would have had
a great interview

and a--a true conversation,

the one question
I would have asked,

why did you have
to kill Monique?

Every little girl
needs their mama,

their mother in their life.

Know what I mean?

Every little girl needs
their mother in their life.

There's nothing
they don't have but their mom.

to her, her picture.

On Christmas, she got me
this coffee cup that says,

"Hey there, pretty lady,"
with a little heart.

I drink my coffee out of it
every single morning.

I mean, it was like
my sister, my best friend.

I mean, people called us
MoJo because I was Jo

and she was Mo,
so it was MoJo.

And I don't have that anymore.

If Monique
were still here today,

I know she would be traveling.

She would be eating.

She'll probably be somewhere,

ordering up a whole bunch
of appetizers

before her meal.

That's probably true,

but my fate wouldn't give me
that chance.

Still, there's a future
for everyone I've left behind.

My Legacy and my Legend,

they're my two girls
and so much more.

I will always live on
through them.
