(Man) This is the story of South Africa
in the early days of the diamond fields.

It's a story of the diggers who came
to try their luck by the Fall River.

And most of all it's the story
of one particular Englishman,

Stafford Parker, whose strength
and character made him

the acknowledged boss of the
diamond community of Hopetown.

There we have a city on a rock,

so must we build our lives

to enable us to overcome
worldly temptation.

He tried to persuade my uncle

to give him sole concession
of the diamond fields.
