[narrator] But they've not done
anything like this.

From the millions of
obstacle course racers worldwide,

36 teams of five have assembled
each with two woman and two men

partnered with an elite Spartan racer.

They've come to compete
in the sport's ultimate event,

on the most demanding course ever built

for a prize of $250,000.

They are best friends.

He means everything.
He's the brother I never had.

-[narrator] They are siblings.
-[man 3] We're twin brothers.

He's a cop. I'm a fireman.

[narrator] And they are parents.

[man 4] She's never gonna say
"I love you" back.

But I know she does.

[narrator] But most importantly,
they are teammates

pushing each other over massive obstacles...

Don't let go!

[narrator] ...through frigid waters,

under razor-sharp barbed wire,

and the obstacle from hell.

I've actually been having nightmares
about that Slip Wall.

[screams]

And every single time
you thought you had it right,

-it all fell apart.

[narrator] In this competition,
no one triumphs alone.

the ultimate team challenge.

[screaming]

[Dhani Jones] Hello, everyone,
and welcome to Spartan.

The team competition like no other.

I'm Dhani Jones alongside

former professional soccer player
Kyle Martino.

And we're about to challenge

some of the fittest athletes in the world

with the quintessential test
of mind and body.

That's right, Dhani.

You and I know a thing or two
about team sports,

but we've never seen
a competition like this

where teamwork is so important.

And once again, Dhani,
six teams will compete head-to-head

on a mile long obstacle course.

Only one of them will advance
to the championship

five weeks from now.

In the end, the winner will go home
with $250,000.

[Jones] And the three teams competing
in our featured race

are ready to go.

The winner of this heat
is guaranteed a spot

in tonight's final.

[all chanting] Philly! Philly!

[Martino] In black is brotherly love
out of Philadelphia

featuring 32-year-old twin brothers,
Chris and Jim Craig.

Jim's a cop and Chris is a firefighter.

Jobs that set them up well
for this course.

[Chris Craig] As a firefighter,

you want to have yourself
as prepared as you can be

for the physical demands of the job.

[Jim Craig] Being a cop in Philly,

day in and day in
you don't know what's gonna happen.

You have to always be ready for anything.

[Chris] Everyday at work
we workout to stay in shape

to be able to do whatever
we're called upon to do.

Now applying that to the Spartan Race,

having your body prepared
definitely puts you at an advantage.

Philly!

[Martino] They're racing today
with Chris's wife Tracey,

and Jim's girlfriend Cassandra.

Brotherly Loves' captain is Amelia Boone,
2013 Spartan world champion

and the #1 ranked female racer
in the world.

[Amelia Boone]
None of my teammates have actually

ever done an obstacle race before.

I'm confident in being able to lead,
you know, anyone through this.

[woman] Ready?

-One, two, three.
-[all] Bounce Squad!

Everybody clap your hands!

[clapping]

[Martino] In purple is "Bounce Squad,"
a team that trains at the trampoline park

where they all work
in Wilmington, North Carolina.

This team is very fit, with virtually no

Spartan Race experience.

[Jones] That's Solomon Harvey,
the manager of the trampoline park,

he's a former MMA fighter.

So, he's no stranger to competition.

[Martino] Dhani, the same can't be said
for the team in green.

"Farm Strong" is the most unique team
in the entire competition.

Dairy farmers that discovered
obstacle racing

when they hosted a race
on their family-owned farm.

[man 5] We have a thousand acre farm.

-[mooing]
-Two hundred cows.

We grow tomatoes, cabbage, kale.

You name it, we grow it.

During the winter, we're cutting wood

and lugging buckets of water
and shoveling snow.

And during the summer we're bailing hay

and chopping corn.

[man 6] We never go to the gym.

We're running under barbed wire

and through the mud chasing the heifers.

That's our training.

[mooing]

Heads up, Mom.

Whoo-hoo!

[woman 3] As a grandmother of seven kids,

that is a ton of exercise.

I gotcha!

I'm not afraid to crawl on the ground.

I don't care about any of that.

I love dirt. [laughs]

I'm a farmer.

It doesn't matter how hard it is,
we'll do it.

[all] Farm Strong.

[Jones] And at 58 years old,

Phil Stevens is the oldest athlete

-in the entire competition.
-[Martino] That's right, Dhani.

But on top of that,

Phil fell off a barn roof 12 years ago

shattering both heels.

And after a decade
of not being able to walk,

he'd gotten leg braces that he says

-gave him his life back.
-Let's go.

[Martino] Farm Strong should get
a big lift

from their captain, Kyle "Wooch" Graff.

A 5'10" former Texas
high school quarterback

who's used to being the underdog.

Hey, we can't put in what God left out,
but we can push guts.

All right, today we push guts.

For more on the course the farmers

and the rest of the teams are gonna face,

let's go down to Evan Dollard.

Thanks, guys.

Obstacles from Spartan
competitions across the world

were the inspiration for this course.

But ours are unlike
anything these athletes

have ever seen.

Designed specifically to create
the ultimate team competition.

It's a one mile loop full of obstacles
these racers have never faced.

On these obstacles, strategy is critical.

[man] One, two, three, go.

-[Dollard] Do you go for speed?
-[man] There we go.

-[Dollard] Or efficiency?
-[woman] You're almost there.

[Dollard] Does the strongest teammate
go first?

[man] Go ahead first.

[Dollard] Or drive forward from the rear?

Go!

[Dollard] It will be a mile long battle
of speed...

[man] Come on, team, move fast!

-...strength...
-[straining]

[Dollard] ...and most importantly,
communication.

[woman] Come on, we got to move.
We got to move.

[Dollard] Culminating at the obstacle
is guaranteed to break hearts.

The slip wall.

These competitors have never
seen anything like it

and they'll be dying to get up there.

Guys, back to you.

[Jones] Thanks, Evan.
And here we go, Kyle.

A spot in tonight's final is on the line.

Blow that horn!

[air horn sounding]

[Martino] It's Brotherly Love in black.
Bounce Squad in purple.

And right away, Dhani, you can see
Farm Squad in green

having a difficult time keeping up.

[Kyle speaking]

[Martino] There appears
a strategy behind it.

We just heard Kyle "Wooch" Graff,
their captain, telling them not to burnout

and make their move later in the race.

Challenge my family, challenge this farm,
and we can do anything.

[Martino] Bounce Squad in purple
approaching the wall first.

[man] Shoulders, shoulders.

[Jones] More like bouncing off each other

-and over that wall.
-[man] Push! Push!

-You got it, you got it.
-[Martino] Seriously, their athleticism

right away on display.

Now the farmers.
And they're certainly underdogs here,

but their captain
would have it no other way.

Stay calm.

If there's a team that nobody wants,

I want that team.

I like the challenge of it,
but I also like

the bonding that takes place
between the people

that are never given a chance.

And so, in this case,

we'll make some amazing memories.

We'll be the team that everybody wants
to win the race.

[Martino] We all love an underdog story,
but Wooch has his work cut out for him.

-[Amelia] Let's do this.
-[Jones] You hear that?

Amelia Boone trying to spur her team,

-Brotherly Love?
-[man] Call it out when you see it.

[Martino] And they're just
steps behind Bounce Squad.

Who are heading to the Lake Swing.

Here the teams must swing and clear
30 feet to the landing platform.

If you miss it, then you must stay
in that 55-degree water

until every team member
has taken their turn.

When really, Dhani, it's a trapeze fall.

Just go back to those playground days,
pump your legs,

get some momentum like you're on a swing.

[man] Just like that!

[woman] There you go!

[Jones] Oh, and now she has to stay
in that freezing water

-until her whole team is finished.
-Go, go, go.

[man] Okay, get up here!
Go when you're ready.

[Jones] And Brotherly Love has arrived.

[Martino] Check out Solomon Harvey.

Dhani, that's how you do it.
Look at that momentum.

[man] Do it!

[Jones] You got to let go, though.

He's wasting precious time.

[Martino] He's waiting for his partner,
Luke Reynolds.

Look at this move.

And they make it, both of them.

[Jones] Oh, Luke, don't slip.

Oh!

[Jones] Oh! And a face-plant
for Brotherly Love.

-[woman grunts]
-[man] Let's go! Let's go!

[Martino] Luke and Solomon pulling
their teammates

out of the water.
This is a close-knit group here, Dhani.

They work and they play together
all day long.

I work at an indoor trampoline park
in Wilmington, North Carolina.

[man] Go! Get as high as you can.
Stay controlled.

[woman 4] Working at a trampoline park
benefits me in the Spartan world

because it is one of the best
cardio workouts you will ever have.

[Solomon] So, with my teammates here
and a great place to train,

our team is ready to go.

You put us together,
and we're unstoppable.

Get up there! Get up there!

[Jones] Those pink bandanas
they're wearing are in honor of Tee's mom.

Tee is the first to jump to shore.

We'll tell you more about her mom's battle
with breast cancer later on.

-[man] Now float.
-[Amelia] Row. Row.

[Martino] Amelia Boone, Brotherly Love
staying close to the leaders.

I mean, Dhani, you can't have
the last name Boone

and be bad on the raft in the "L" course.

[Jones] And the farmers way behind
back at the Lake Swing.

-Look at grandma go.
-[all] Whoo-hoo!

[Jones] They've got
a lot of ground to make up.

They aren't giving up
on making it to the finals.

[Martino] And don't forget a strong
second place time

could earn one of these teams
a spot on tonight's final.

[Jones] Bounce Squad now entering
the Army Crawl 110 feet of mud,

jagged roots, and razor-sharp barbed wire.

Come on!

[Martino] Solomon looked at home
on that trapeze,

but there's no mud and barbed wire
at the trampoline park.

[Amelia] Go, guys. Good job. Keep it up.

[Jones] And here comes Brotherly Love,
Amelia Boone out in front.

She's crawled under barbed wire
many times before, Kyle.

Today, she needs to look out
for her inexperienced teammates.

[Amelia] Watch out. There's a really
low one out right here, guys.

[Martino] Identical twins Chris and Jim.

I had trouble telling them apart
when they weren't covered in mud,

-Dhani, now I'm just... I have no chance.
-[grunting]

[Jones] Brotherly Love trying to
close the gap on Bounce Squad.

-Whoo-hoo!
-There you go.

[Martino] And famer Phil,
like a loving husband

-joins his wife in the water.
-Hold on to it.

-[screaming]
-[Jones] Oh, no!

Double whip for the farmers.
Their uphill battle just got even steeper.

[Jones] Welcome back to Spartan.

Before we rejoin the race, take a look
at what happened earlier tonight.

[Martino] Grey Guard, the oldest team
in the entire competition

won Heat 1 earning themselves
a spot in tonight's finals

Second place went to the lifelong friends,
the Muddy Buddies.

Now we'll have to wait
and see if their time

is faster than the runner-up
in our second heat.

The fastest runner-up earns
the wildcard spot in tonight's finals.

As we return to the action in Heat 2,
Bounce Squad is out front

carrying that 150-pound shield.

-Stay to the left.
-Stay as left as possible.

[Martino] We talk a lot
about communication

on Spartan, Dhani,
and these coworkers never stop talking.

[Jones] Brotherly Love
just a few steps behind

with the Craig twins out in front.

We can go faster.

[Jones] Team captain Amelia Boone
on the left driving them forward.

[Phil] We're Farm Strong!

[Martino] And Farm Strong
bringing up the rear.

[Jones] Oh! Speaking of rears.

-[Wooch] Oh, Jesus!
-[Jones] Wooch, come on!

-That's not necessary.
-[Martino] That's actually,

Dhani, his trademark move.

In the racing world, he's famous
for letting it all hang out.

Having done this for so long,

I am way beyond
being intimidated by anyone.

It's why when I race,
I'll strip down and race as Thong Strong

because this is about having fun
and bringing humor in and enjoying

the people I'm around
and building everybody up.

All right, here we go!

[Jones] Brave move hitting
the Army Crawl in a thong.

[Martino] Farmer's still way behind,

-Dhani, no pun intended.
-[Wooch] Whoo-hoo, baby!

[Martino] In Spartan,
we know no lead is safe

as Bounce Squad heads into the section
of the course we call The Arena.

[Jones] In The Arena, the teams
will run a gauntlet

of three consecutive obstacles.

The Spear Throw that needs concentration
and accuracy.

The Totem Climb,
requiring arm and grip strength.

I don't know how much longer I can hold.

-[man] Pull!
-[Jones] And

-the Timber Drop.
-[woman screams]

[Jones] The ultimate test of balance

-and core strength.
-That's it.

[Jones] And here come our leaders.
Let's check in with Evan Dollard.

[Dollard] All right, guys, Bounce Squad

are the first to arrive
at this pivotal obstacle, the Spear Throw.

They need to slow down their heart rates

and catch their breaths
so they can concentrate

on the target.

[Martino] And right behind them
Brotherly Love

battling the elements
on the way to The Arena.

-[Solomon] Pull!
-[woman] Okay.

[Dollard] Four team members
pull the target closer

as team captain and marine biologist

-Amber Johnson steps up to throw.
-[grunts]

-[man] Get it!
-[Dollard] That's one.

They need to hit two more
to move onto the next obstacle.

-[Martino] Thanks, Evan.
-[Amber] Whoo-hoo!

Now Aimee Flint sets up for her throw.

-Get it!
-[Jones] Oh!

Wide left.

[Aimee] Back over rope.

[Jones] And as Luke Reynolds
fires his spear,

Brotherly Love has entered The Arena.

[Martino] Every missed throw eats away
at Bounce Squad's lead.

[Jones] They got to execute to move on.

Solomon Harvey sets up, takes a shot.

-[Luke] There you go, you have it.
-[Martino] Another miss.

-[man] Tee, you're up.
-[Solomon] Go, go.

[Martino] Tee's gonna take her turn.

-[Luke] There you... There it is!
-[cheers]

[Jones] It bounces in! That counts!

[Martino] Amelia Boone,
she's number one in the world,

but this isn't her strong suit.

[Amelia] I have had spear throwing issues
in the past.

It's like trying to not get frustrated
and get in your head.

It's just... keeps digging at it.

[Jones] And it really hurts
when your captain doesn't connect.

-[woman] Come on, Chris.
-[Jones] Fireman Chris.

Oh!

[Martino] It bounces down
to Amber Johnson.

[Jones] Philly cop, Jim Craig.

Like target practice.
That's one for Brotherly Love.

-[man] Leave it here.
-[woman] Good shot, baby.

-[man 1] There it is!
-[man 2] Boom! Yeah!

And just like that,
Solomon Harvey answers back,

and Bounce Squad
moves onto the Totem Climb.

And remember, Dhani, all five team members

must be on that 24-foot rope
before you grab your team flag,

pass it up and clip it in.

[Jones] Put your strongest climber
on first. And there goes Solomon.

[Martino] Like a rocket
up that 24-foot rope.

[Martino] And the Philly cop
nails another one.

[Jones] And Farm Strong's
making their way to the Arena.

They're a minute and 20 seconds
behind Brotherly Love

in the race for second
and a shot at the wildcard.

-Bounce Squad has all five members...
-[Amber] Let go.

-[Jones] ... on the rope.
-Tell me when.

-Clip!
-[all] Clip!

[Jones] And they're headed
to the Timber Drop.

[Martino] Farm Strong at the Spear Throw.
Son, Will... Like a missile.

-[Amelia] He already got it?
-[Jones] The Philly fireman now.

[Martino] Unable to match his brother.

[Wooch] Pull!

[Jones] Now Grandpa Phil...

-Old school.
-[all] Yes!

[Wooch] Way to go!

[Martino] Like Rick Barry
at the free throw line.

Look at that underhand technique.
Two in a row for the farmers.

Amelia Boone...

Another miss.

-[man] Yeah!
-[Jones] Wooch!

-There it is.
-[Martino] Three up and three hits.

That is farm solid right there
and they pass Brotherly Love.

[Jones] Big change.

[Martino] Only in Spartan
can two grandparents,

one with leg braces,

compete against
the number one in the world.

Are you good back there?

[Jones] They're still one obstacle
behind Bounce Squad,

who are struggling
to get that 650-pound log up in the air.

-[Amber] Go, go, go! Hill, hill, hill.
-[Solomon] Pull!

[Jones] Now they've got to grease
that log and climb to the top.

-Molly then me?
-Okay.

[Martino] Wooch, the selfless team leader
checking in on grandma.

Farm Strong daughter Molly
headed up the rope first.

[Jones] Look at those guns.

[Martino] Amelia Boone still struggling
with her nemesis, but she hits it.

Brotherly Love onto the Totem Climb.

[Jones] As they catch up,

Bounce Squad is really struggling
on that slippery pole.

-Hey, yo, Luke, use her hand.
-I can't.

My hands are more slippery
than my shoes are.

[Martino] One slip here
and their opponents

can get right back in this race.

[Jones] Amelia Boone may struggle
on the spear,

but she has no problem with ropes.

Almost at the top for Farm Strong.

But look at Amelia take off.

[Martino] That's faster than most people

-come down the rope.
-You got it, Luke. Dig deep!

[Jones] Look at those faces
on Bounce Squad.

Guys, they're hurting and they can feel
the competition

closing in behind them.

-Okay, I got it.
-[Martino] They've done it!

That's one of the fastest
Totem Climbs we've seen.

[Jones] Brotherly Love is back
in second place.

[Martino] And here they come.

Bounce Squad already struggling
to get up that log.

Now they got to do it

with Brotherly Love
breathing down their neck.

Go, go, go!

[Jones] Farm Strong clipped in their flag,

but Phil is slow down the ropes

fighting for control of those leg braces.

-[Amelia] Straight walk.
-[Martino] Fireman Chris getting

underneath that log to lift it up.
Look at the strength as his teammates

-pull behind him.
-You got it.

[Jones] And Bounce Squad's
still crawling up,

Brotherly Love's pole's headed down.

It just became anybody's race.

nearly fell off the Timber Drop.

got a hand from son, Will,
and reached the top

as the never-say-die farmers once again

moved passed Brotherly Love.

Yeah! Whoo-hoo! Grandma made it!

Whoo!

[Solomon] Good job. Let's go.

[Jones] As we pick up the action,

Bounce Squad is headed
to the final two obstacles

with a two minute lead.

[Martino] But this next obstacle
can take your breath away.

It's the dangerous Dunk Wall.

It's deep, it's dark,

and it's scary as hell.

[man] On one, two, three...

[Martino] The water
is a heart-stopping 55 degrees,

and there's only a tight, narrow 18-inch
gap to swim through under the walls.

The middle wall weighs 250 pounds

and it requires multiple team members
to lift it just enough to squeeze under.

[gasping]

[Jones] Bounce Squad already through
the first Dunk Wall.

Let's go!

[Jones] Now Solomon throws the rope
over to his teammates

to start pulling on that
250-pound middle wall

to make some room for him to swim under.

[crowd chanting] Purple!

[man] Let's go.

[Jones] Oh!
And a little stumble out of Luke.

[Martino] Dhani,
they can afford a little stumble.

They've built a big lead but
the great equalizer, the Slip Wall.

You see it there.
It still stands in their way.

[Jones] Wooch and the farmers
still taking the slow and steady approach

Coming steady.

[Jones] And check out Amelia Boone
pushing her team past the farmers.

They're back in second.

[Martino] Bounce Squad over the Slip Wall

building a human ladder.

The only way to conquer
this 18-foot monster

is by climbing each other to the top.

[Jones] That's over 500 pounds
on Luke's shoulders.

[Martino] And you can see it on his face.

[Jones] Oh, they're sliding down!

Watch out! Watch out! Watch out!

[Jones] What a pile of...
That could've been catastrophic.

[Martino] Watch Tee
at the very, very top here

as the team starts to fall,
Solomon reaches

and he's still holding on to Tee

and pulls her down
with the rest of the team.

And look at how hard she hits the ground.

They got to regroup quickly.

[Jones] Thankfully,
she looks to be all right,

But that's gonna cost them a ton of time.

[Martino] The Muddy Buddies
are Heat 1 runners-up

watching on anxiously to see if their time

holds up for the wildcard's spot
in tonight's final.

[Jones] Bounce Squad back on track.

-Go, grandma.
-[Martino] It's incredible.

The whole shocking thing isn't the thong.

It's that they've made it this far, Dhani.

[Jones] Nobody expected these
Spartan newbies to still be

even in contention.

The Bounce Squad gave up precious time

with that fall,
but has quickly reassembled

-their ladder.
-Yeah, and change things up.

Solomon now at the base instead of Luke.

[Jones] And this formation
seems to be working.

Tee and Luke are both at the top.

But Brotherly Love
has completed the Dunk Walls.

It's not over yet.

Come on, Chris, come on!

[Martino] Look at Luke
bending over backwards

as the three women hold his legs.

And how about Farm Strong.
Out of the water and onto Slip Wall.

[woman] Go! Go!

-[Jones] And he's got it.
-[Martino] This is it.

[woman] Get him, Aimee!
Get him, get him, get him.

[Martino] The tactical adjustment
pays off. And the Bounce Squad...

are gonna cross that finish line first.

The Slip Wall knocked them down, Dhani,

but Bounce Squad are the first team
to make it over the monster.

-[Tee] Let's go!
-Get the back!

[all cheering]

[Jones] Bounce Squad out of
Wilmington, North Carolina

has advanced to tonight's final.

[cheering continues]

[Martino] It was a total team effort.

These coworkers and close friends
jumped down to an early lead

and never gave it up.

[Martino] That's 57-year-old Grandma Erin
continuing to defy expectations.

[Jones] Either one of these teams
can cross the finish line

[Martino] Both Farm Strong
and Brotherly Love

each have one member at the top.

Now, grab a hold of me and pull.

[Jones] But the difference right now
is that Molly

is just moments away from the top
for Farm Strong.

Only 45 seconds left
to beat the wildcard time.

-Look at Will!
-[Martino] He's grabbing anything, thongs,

braces, anything to get
to the top of the wall.

[Jones] I like it.
Farm Strong and farm smart.

[woman screaming]
Please let go! Oh, my God!

the prerace favorites

appear to be in some serious trouble.

Farm Strong is over the wall.

[Martino] But no time to celebrate.

[Jones] Thirty seconds, 30 seconds
to beat the Muddy Buddies.

[Martino] I mean, already this
is incredible. They beat Brotherly Love.

They're gonna finish the race,
but it looks like they're gonna make it

in tonight's final.

-[Jones] It's so close.

They got to get it across the line.

and a man in a thong
just shocked the world.

[Jones] They'll be joined by the winners

We're just about to drop the flag
on tonight's finals.

that this course can't be run.

It must be conquered.

from advancing to the championship.

[Martino] ...were driven relentlessly
by their team captain April Dee.

I love the competition,
and I just love the thrill of the hunt.

[Martino] Grey Guard ran away
with the first heat.

The oldest team in the entire competition

is here to prove
that age isn't an obstacle.

-[man 1] I'm 55 years old.
-[man 2] I'm 57.

-[woman 1] Thirty-nine.
-[woman 2] Forty-eight.

We average 49.5 years old.

Yeah, I'm not cool with that.

-[all laughing]
-I like it. I like that.

I think maybe the other teams
will underestimate us.

-Because they'll say...
-Exactly.

"Look at these old guys over there."

The is [bleep]. I'm tired.

[all laughing]

The pain is there. The joints hurt.

[old man] I could be the grandfather
of some of these athletes

that we compete against.

Maybe where we lack in brawn
we make up in brain.

You ever fart so hard you hurt your back?

-[woman] No.
-[laughing]

We are definitely not intimidated

-by younger opposition at all.
-No.

[woman] Age is just a number

and we're gonna kick
a lot of peoples butts

and surprise people.

[Jones] So, it's the local favorites
from Atlanta. Grey Guard in blue.

[Martino] Their team captain, April Dee,

monitoring her heart rate
with her TomTom fitness watch.

Before the race begins,
she's at around 75bpm.

Expect her to get close to 180
by the middle of the race.

And there's Tony Peterson.

A few years ago, he couldn't even walk up

a flight of stairs without getting winded.

Now look at him.

And here cheering him on
is Tony Peterson's family.

[Jones] Bounce Squad is in purple.

[Martino] And there's
Tee Jackson's brother Will

who made the drive from Wilmington
to support his sister.

[Jones] And the Stevens family.
The ultimate underdogs.

Holding hands at the start line.
Farm Strong back for more in green.

-Let's do it, Farm Strong.
-We love ya.

-[Jones] This is it.
-[Martino] Here we go!

A spot in the championship
and a shot at $250,000 is on the line.

One team will advance,

two will go home.

Blow that horn!

-[air horn sounding]
-And there they go.

Grey Guard in blue just to the right of
Bounce Squad in purple.

And the farmers starts slow again.

Wow, it looks like
they're reserving their energy

and they'll need it for the longer,
more taxing finals course.

First up is The Walls.

And that's 55-year-old
Tony Peterson, way ahead of the pack.

[Martino] This guy, Dhani,
stopped exercising for 28 years

while battling depression.

He looks pretty athletic now.

[Jones] Bounce Squad in purple.
That's Tee Jackson.

Bounce Squad lifts their two smallest
over the eight-foot wall first.

-You ready?
-Yep.

-One, two, three.
-Come on up.

[Jones] Farm Strong trying to keep pace.

Kyle, how many sons get to push

their 57-year-old mother
over an eight-foot wall?

[Martino] Only on Spartan.

Erin told us before the race
she couldn't believe

she had to run this entire course again.

-Now the ten-foot wall.
-[Solomon] Going up.

[Martino] Great teamwork there.

Bounce Squad using what they call
their elevator move,

lifting the shorter girls to the top

-two at a time.
-I got you.

-Keep going, keep going.
-[April] Ready to go.

[Jones] And Grey Guard
not gonna let those young whippersnappers

get too far ahead.

Over to the right. Hurry!

[Martino] Bounce Squad are first
to the Lake Swing.

In Heat 2 they took
a more strategic approach,

Dhani, with Luke joining Solomon
to generate more swing

and the coworkers dismounted together.

[together] One, two, three.

[Solomon] All right, go.

[Martino] Let's see how Bounce attacks
the Lake Swing here.

I got it. I'm coming, I'm coming.

[Jones] Oh, and they're goes Solomon.

[man] Go!

[Martino] It doesn't work as well
this time.

Aimee's got to stay in that frigid water
until her entire team leaps.

-[April] Keep up, get up, get up.
-[Jones] And here comes Tony,

April, and the Grey Guard.

[Martino] Solomon still on that bar.

[Jones] Here comes Tee... oh!
She goes right into the water.

[April] Move it up, move it up.

[Jones] Bounce Squad's lead
is absolutely gone.

[Martino] Solomon's still swinging.

He just lets go.
His arms must've been burning

and you have to save them
for the rest of the race.

[woman] Whoo! Farm Strong!

[Jones] Don't count out those farmers.

We saw them make up time
on some key obstacles

in their qualifying heat.

[April] Get it up.

[Martino] And Grey Guard taking a page
out of Bounce's book

-two at a time.
-Go!

Jump.

[Martino] Agh! Right idea, bad execution.

[Jones] No one has made the leap
to the platform.

They're all freezing in the water.

[Wooch] All right, back in it.

[Martino] Is this the break the farmers
have been looking for?

Going to the left.

[Jones] Can they pull off another miracle?

-Jump!
-[grunts]

[Jones] Welcome back to Spartan.

On their way, Bounce Squad and Grey Guard

completed the Lake Swing.

Somebody get me up. Somebody get me up.

[Jones] I think Grandma Erin
plugs her nose

as she splashed down.

Solomon Harvey and Bounce Squad

bounded across 60 feet of walls
on the Log Traverse.

[Solomon] Yeah! Down!

-[Jones] Right behind them
-Grey Guard got stuck...

My feet are just sliding.

[Jones] ...and fell 20 seconds
behind the leaders

during the Army Crawl.

[Deborah] Come on, guys,
we can catch them.

[Martino] As we pick up the action,
it's Farm Strong in third

getting cheeky again
at the Army Crawl, Dhani.

-[Jones] Captain Wooch.
-[Wooch] All right, back in the mix.

Yeah.

[Martino] Grey Guard is on the hunt
in second place.

[April] We're jogging.

[Martino] Everyone is trying to reel in
Bounce Squad

who has carried that 150-pound shield

about halfway down this 300-yard run.

Out front is Tawana "Tee" Jackson,

the 5'3" trampoline park assistant manager

who's running the race
for someone special.

[music playing]

[Tee] My mother was a mother to all.

Her smile, her laugh,
just her attitude was infectious.

My mother was diagnosed
with stage three breast cancer.

But she was a warrior
through the whole thing.

She kept a smile and a positive attitude.

Oh, this is the night
before chemo therapy.

You got me raggedy.
Y'all disregard the clothes.

[Tee] Once she had to move in with us

on hospice care,
that's kinda when it hit me,

that it was real.

Less than a year after she was diagnosed
is when she passed.

April 8, 2014.

This is the place where my brother and I
spread my mom's ashes.

Somewhere beautiful and serene
just like she was.

I dedicate this race to my mother.

I know she's with me,
and I'm excited to run this race with her.

[Jones] I think Tee's mom would be proud

to see her daughter
looking so fierce out there.

[Martino] No doubt, Dhani,
'cause right now

she's got Bounce Squad out in front
as they approach the arena.

[Jones] Grey Guard is 33 seconds
behind the leaders.

[April] We get up there,
we nail our spears.

[Jones] April Dee, a seasoned veteran,

planning on making a move
at the spear throw.

[Luke] We got this.

[Martino] Bounce Squad at the Spear Throw.

Tee anchoring the rope
to pull that target closer.

[Jones] Aimee Flint the fitness instructor
first attempt, hit three and you move on.

-[Aimee grunts]
-Oh, and she misses.

[man] It's all right.
Don't worry about it.

[Jones] Bounce Squad's captain,
Amber Johnson.

[Jones] She's got a game face
on her, Kyle.

[Martino] Locked in.

[Jones] And here comes Grey Guard.

[Martino] Bounce Squad's struggling again
on the Spear Throw,

and their lead is nearly gone.

[April] Come on, this is ours.

[Martino] And there's the Petersons
cheering on 55-year-old Tony.

Can the seniors make a move here?

[Jones] Solomon desperately needs
to get his team on the board.

-[Luke] There it is.
-[Jones] He's got it!

[Martino] Here's April Dee.

-Oh! She's got it, too.
-[Jones] Oh, that's nice.

57-year-old Richie Taylor up next.

Boom! Nails it!

The retired gym teacher
gives his team the lead.

[woman] Sink it, Tee. You got it.

[Martino] Here comes Tee.

-Just off the mark.
-[Jones] Come on.

Now it's 48-year-old grandma, Ramona Haas.

Ah! Too much power out of Ramona.

[Luke] All right, guys, we got this.

-[Jones] For the tie, Amber Johnson.
-[grunts]

[man] That's it!

-There it is.
-[Both] Oh!

[Martino] Oh, it fell off.

[Jones] Can Tony deliver in the clutch?

Yes!

We have a new leader.
Grey Guard on to the Herc Hoist.

[crowd chanting] Go! Go! Go!

[Martino] And this obstacle will test
the team's ability

to work together in rhythm.

They'll have to time their pulling motion
in order to lift that 350-pound box.

-[Luke] Come on, Tee, you got this.
-[Amber] Tee, Tee, Tee!

[Martino] It's up to Tee.
Can she get her team back in it?

-[Jones] Yes, Tee!
-[Martino] Yes! Yes!

April Dee urging her team.

And according to her TomTom sport watch
her heart rate is now up to 143bpm.

Her max rate is 185

and she still has more in the tank,
but Grey Guard appear to be tiring.

Aimee Flint, 5'1" dynamo.

Can she get her team back in it?

[Jones] Yes! Nice!

-Bounce Squad bounces back.
-[Luke] Here we go.

[Jones] All the way back
at the Shield Carry,

Farm Strong is keeping their spirits high.

[Erin] We are Spartan, we are here.

[men] We drink milk and lots of beer.

[Martino chuckles] Now Bounce Squad
and the Grey Guard

are neck and neck yet again.

[Jones] Look at the pain
on Tony Peterson's face, Kyle.

[April] Come on!

[Jones] And Bounce Squad
has just pulled ahead.

[grunting]

[bell dinging]

[Jones] And Bounce Squad retakes the lead!

Don't look now, but here comes Farm Strong
heading into the arena.

[Wooch] Let's do this.

[Martino] And it's here at the Spear Throw
that they made their move in Heat 2.

[Jones] Bounce Squad on the Totem Climb.

Now, they've all got to be
on that 24-foot rope

before they can pass up their team flag
and clip it in.

-[man] Think about it.
-[Martino] Son Will, first attempt.

Nice! These guys are just money
on the Spear Throw, Dhani.

[Jones] Farm Strong, baby,
like you said, Kyle.

Last time they were here,
they made three in a row.

Like a pitchfork in a hay bale.

[Martino] Now their captain.

-[Jones] Wooch got it!
-Come on, you got this.

-[Jones] Grandma Erin.
-[Wooch] Get it, girl.

[Martino] I love the underhand.

-[Wooch] Let's go.
-[Jones] Old school.

That is the first miss
for the Farm Strong.

[Aimee] You got it, Luke.

[Jones] Bounce Squad
almost has all five members

-up on the rope.
-[Tony] Pull!

-[April] Pull!
-[grunting]

[Jones] Grey Guard continues
to struggle and lose valuable time.

Yes! Ice cold beer ten minutes away.

[Jones] I love this Bounce Squad
passing that flag

all the way up to the top
and they've clipped it.

[crowd cheering]

-You got it.
-Yes!

[Jones] Will Stevens hit the third spear.

But just as they move on
to the Herc Hoist,

Grey Guard finally completes it.

[Martino] Dhani,
this final heat is ridiculous.

[Jones] Unbelievable.

[April] Come on, Ramona!

[Wooch] Heave! Heave! Heave!

[Martino] And look at this, Dhani,

Farm Strong continues to make their move

in perfect unison
lifting that 350-pound box

like it was a hay bale
strung over a barn beam.

[bell dings]

[Jones] Kyle, that's the fastest
Herc Hoist we've seen.

[Tee] Dig deep. We got this, guys.

[Martino] Bounce Squad
breathing heavy, but staying positive

as they continue to lead.

[Jones] Here comes Farm Strong.

And Grey Guard has quickly put three,
three people on the rope.

Go, go, go!

-[Richie] All right, here we go.
-[Ramona] Give me those hooks.

-Got it.
-[Jones] They have done it.

And with the Slip Wall looming,

this race is up for grabs.

[Jones] Welcome back to Spartan.

[Martino] We are right back
into the action

as Bounce Squad stares down
the final two obstacles.

[Jones] They continue to lead

with Grey Guard in second
and Farm Strong in third.

[Luke] Tee, go!

[Martino] That's Tee,
the first member to go under the wall.

Over at the Steeple Run,

it looks like age might have
caught up with Grey Guard.

They look spent.

[Tee] Pull!

[Jones] That middle wall
weighs 250 pounds.

Tee slides under that tiny 18-inch gap.

You don't want to get trapped under there.

[Wooch] Everybody breathe.

Breathe.

[April] Go, go, go, go!

[Martino] Team captain
and school bus driver

April Dee relentlessly driving

Grey Guard forward.

[Jones] The stakes are simple.

-[Aimee] Go.
-Get over that Slip Wall first

and you advance to the championship
and a shot at $250,000.

[Martino] Remember, Dhani,
Bounce Squad's been here before.

In Heat 2, Luke's feet slid out

and their entire team came crashing down.

Another mistake like that
could prove disastrous.

-Now here comes Tee.
-Look how fast.

[Martino] 5'3", Dhani.

She's the lightest on the squad,
115 pounds.

She's gonna attempt to be
the first at the top.

And she's up.

[Jones] And older brother Will
likes what he sees.

And here comes Luke attempting to be
the second member to the top.

-Give me those hands, give me those hands.
-[woman] You got it. You got it. Go!

I'm good, baby, I'm good.

[Jones] And he makes it to the top.

[Martino] But here comes
Grey Guard, Dhani,

that's Tony Peterson under...

-and up.
-Come on.

[Martino] They're one wall away.

[Jones] Tony's daughter shouting
to keep going.

-Okay.
-Here you go.

Start pushing.

-Lower, lower, lower.
-Come on, come on.

-[man] Come on, come on, they're coming.
-[woman] And push!

[Jones] Luke arching backwards
to reach Amber.

And he's got her.

[Tee] Come on, come on!

[Martino] Just behind them,
Grey Guard is out of the Dunk Walls.

[Jones] Can they pull off the comeback?

Let's go down to MJ Acosta.

In the qualifiers, the blue team executed

a perfect strategy
to get over that Slip Wall

in no time.

Let's see if they can do it again

and pull off a comeback for the ages.

-[Jones] Thanks, MJ.
-[Tee] No!

[Jones] Wow, Solomon just missed
Luke Reynolds's hand.

This race is definitely not over.

Go, go, go, go!

Ugh!

[Martino] Ah! He just missed.

That's the second time he's missed.

He can't get enough traction
with his shoes, Dhani.

What an opportunity for Grey Guard.

Solomon, Solomon!

[screaming]

[Jones] Primal scream from Solomon.

-And he's got it.
-[Martino] This is it.

[Jones] Bounce Squad, the team
of trampoline park and place

from Wilmington, North Carolina

are just a short run away
from winning this race

-and heading to the Spartan championship.

Absolutely unbelievable.

[Martino] Look at Tee's brother Will
down at the finish line going berserk.

[all screaming]

[sobbing]

[Solomon] Yeah! Yeah!

[Jones] And look at that.
A hug from brother Will.

No doubt Mama's got to be proud.

[Martino] Inspired from the start,

Bounce Squad rose above
the field and today,

these coworkers
were the ultimate teammates.

There's so much emotion from you guys.
I can see it on every one of you.

Tawana, knowing that you
did this for your mom,
