in this video i wanted to without any

preparation

basically go into the mac os monterey

open core install

and see if i can get it to install using

my internal gpu

this isn't the most ideal situation i'd

rather have a dedicated gpu but to shell

out the money for a new amd graphics

card

is not something i'm prepared to do

right now so

i am going to use my internal gpu and

see if i can take a separate ssd

and dual boot into mac os monterey on

the same computer that i'm running this

windows operating system on right now

guys but first don't forget to click the

content the first step i do is bring up

a browser and go to dortanya

open core monterey

in here

i see the list of explanation of what's

changed in the monterey versus previous

macos installations they've dropped

symbios support

for certain symbioses and they've

dropped nvidia kepler which is my

graphics card

and i'll leave a link in the description

of my previous video of why i switched

to windows

after not wanting to

buy a new gpu

since then i've realized that

i really love mac os i feel like my

photos

and a bunch of other things the

ecosystem i'm pretty much subscribed to

i use an iphone and

the seamless integration

is just something i just grown to love

and i just don't want to do away with it

right now so i wanted to see if i can

keep my computer compatible with

monterey and just use the internal gpu

for now so if you do look at supported

graphics cards you will see that intel

gpus are still supported for haswell

so you would have to go to gpu support

and you'll see that

intel gpu support is still viable for

haswell i'm currently

using my internal gpu on windows right

now just to make sure that it was still

working and it is so you can see that

the screencast here is coming from my

internal gpu i'm going to use the open

core guide and see if i can get monterey

to work on my computer always start with

getting started and make sure that you

go through

all the steps that you need make sure

you have everything you need to know and

you have a usb set aside that you can

wipe out and put the installer on okay

the first thing we're going to do is

create the usb

so we're going to download open core

package and i'm going to go to the debug

version because it's always recommended

to use the debug version when you're

first getting the operating system

installed for troubleshooting purposes

it gives you more logs

so i'm going to just download the debug

version of everything and i subsequently

will replace it with the release version

once i have everything working okay so i

have that i want to extract that

extract all okay now this is what we're

going to start with proper tree we're

going to need this to configure our

config.plist file make sure you don't

use anything other than proper tree it's

going to corrupt the file if you do i'm

going to open that up i'm going to

extract that if you're coming from

clover

you don't want anything to do with

clover when you're doing open core

so just start clean making the installer

i'm currently using windows i'm a

windows user

so i'm going to go to that link i have

my trusty usb this currently has big sur

installed i'm going to wipe this out and

make it a monterey

installer usb 4 gigs are better this is

32 gigs so i should be fine for usbs

larger than 16 gigs format to fat32

using the rufus method and that's what i

have so let's go there download rufus

okay i'm gonna insert my usb

select my usb drive okay it says set

file system to large fat32 it already is

fat32 and

it set boot section to not bootable and

looks like they're using gpt

and

i'm calling it usb

and

cluster size is 32 kilobytes

and i'm going to click start

now i'm going to create a folder called

com.apple.recovery.boot so i'm going to

copy that string go to my usb drive

i'm gonna delete the auto run stuff

and create a new folder

and paste the string in then move

downloaded base system and recovery

image files okay so we haven't done that

yet so let's go back so windows users we

formatted the disk let's go to

let's download mac recovery.py

looks like mac recovery.py might be in

the opencore folder then we're going to

need python installed

i'm going to add python 310 to the path

this is important and critical because

you're going to need

python in the command line so let's do

that and hit install now

okay setup was successful

to close that then we're going to

download mac os

so we're going to go to the open core

package

and head to this folder utilities mac

recovery so let's go to the extracted

open cord debug

utilities

mac recovery

i'm going to copy that path

and i'm going to go to

command prompt

i'm going to cd

space and i'm going to right mouse click

to paste that path

then i'm going to run one of these

commands the latest version is monterey

so i'm going to copy that and i'm going

to run that

okay downloaded that

that's the

mac os installer so monterey note as

this os is quite new there are still

some issues with certain systems to

resolve for example see here

okay well it's probably good to read

into that so let's do that that's the

page that we started at

and it said to

take note of the deprecated

nvidia or actually remove support for

nvidia

card so

that's something we're already aware of

so now we have

our base system chunk list and dmg file

right there next

making the installer

the rufus method we did this already

next thing we're going to do is

this is where we were leaving off before

we're going to copy the base system dmg

and chunk list files we're going to copy

those

and

paste them in this folder that we

created

okay everyone that was fun

the joys of using windows my computer

just completely froze

copying those files so

i had to reboot so let's get back into

it let's recopy those files so

go to

the usb

which unfortunately is not recognized at

this point

so that got corrupted so let's

go ahead and go to the rufus

let's try to format this again

we're going to do non-bootable

gpt

and we're gonna do

i'll leave the cluster size alone i've

changed that to 32 before as the

document said to do but maybe that was

some of the problems so let's try 16.

i'm going to click start

and close that let's go back to the

document we had to create that

com.apple.recovery.boot folder on the

usb so let's do that

okay and i had to change the drive

letter to u because

it was conflicting with my d drive

so

let's delete these auto run files

create a new folder

call it com apple recovery boot

let's go back to the downloads utilities

mac recovery let's try to copy these

files one more time

here

okay that copy was successful

so

let's go to the next step

we have to go and

choose your architecture 32-bit or

64-bit

i'm 64-bit so i'm going to go to

the open core download

again 64-bit i'm going to copy the efi

folder

and put that on the usb parallel to this

folder

okay

now it looks like that

so we did the rufus method

copy the efi folder and it looks like

that

now we're going to go to setting up efi

we're going to add the base open core

files we did that we're doing debug next

thing we're going to do is clean up our

files we don't need all the files that

come with open cores efi folder we're

going to delete most of the drivers but

it does tell you to keep these

highlighted

files so let's do that so i'm going to

keep boot

x64 efi opening runtime efi open shell

efi and open core efi

and we're going to delete

all the other files that we don't need

so let's do that so boot

we have that file

acpi he doesn't have anything in it

drivers

we don't need anything except for open

run time

kext doesn't have anything in it

resources

we'll leave that alone tools we don't

need anything except for open shell efi

and now our folders look like that so

let's

let's look at it next thing we're going

to do is gather files firmware drivers

require drivers we need hfs plus efi so

let's download the efi click download

and we're going to need open runtime efi

and we already have that

so let's go to

our downloads copy hfs plus efi and put

that on the efi

oc

drivers folder

and i'm going to skip the legacy stuff

kecks

now kecks stand for kernel extension

and that is

basically

in mac os it's represented as a file but

it actually is a folder and in windows

you'll see it as a folder so the folder

name will be

drivername.kext

but it is represented in mac os as a

file it's kind of different so let's

download the kecks we need we need

virtual smc

and i'm going to download the debug

version

extract all

go to

kecks and

since these are the different kext

drivers kernel extensions

i believe we need i don't have a laptop

so i don't need the battery manager or

the light sensor i'm going to copy smc

processor

smc super i o

and

the virtual smc text so let's do that

and i'm going to put that on the usb

an efi oc text

next thing i need lillo

that's required

i'm going to go to the debug version

open that up extract it

it's just a zip file when you download

it guys so

you need to extract it and get the

driver out of it copy that

put that into the

kex folder under usb

so you should have your kex folder

should start looking something like this

it looks like whatever green is also

required i'll download the debug version

there again i have to extract it just

copy the kex folder

and put that on your usb

efi oc

text

i'm not going to worry about onboard

audio i use external audio usb devices

so i'm not going to worry about that i

have an intel nic

so i'm going to download the intel

mousey ethernet driver

again i'll get the debug of that

extract

and just

just this one

put that on

oc

kext

there

okay

usb injectal we need that to get the usb

devices to be recognized it's not going

to be our permanent solution to rely on

this though i'll copy the latest one

open that up extract it i'm going to go

to debug

and i'm gonna copy that

paste it here

xhci unsupported

i'm not gonna worry about that

because i don't fall into any of these

motherboards wi-fi and bluetooth i am

using a fenvy card which is i believe

broadcom so let's not worry about that

used for patching non-apple non-fenvy

broadcom cards so i have a fenvy card so

that's

not something i need that's not

something i need i am not an amd cpu

and

don't need any of that

i'm not a laptop

ssdts we need to get these installed i

haven't a haswell cpu

so

i'm going to need the plug let's do the

pre-built one for now you got to

download this aml

copy it and you put that into the efi oc

acpi folder let's go back to our chart

we need the ec we need the ssdtec for

haswell copy let's go to that go to

pre-built

i'm a desktop i'm going to go to this

one because i'm not skylake or newer

let's go back to the guide did that now

getting started with acpi we did all

that

what we did was we got the pre-built

version um it's not the most efficient

solution but it covers most of the bases

and we can go back and do the manual

version later if we'd like but this is

good for now

all right so we did acpi stuff

next thing we have to do is go to our

particular

architecture and we have to build a

config.p list so we have proper tree we

downloaded that that should be in my

downloads folder right here so let's

open that batch file and what we have to

do is

copy the sample config

and put it in our usb and start editing

it let's go to the downloads your open

core download and go to docs

sample.plist copy that

put that on your usb the efi

oc folder you're going to rename it to

config

dot p list then you're going to go to

proper tree and you're going to open

this

first thing you're going to do is delete

these warnings

next thing you're going to do is go

through your architecture document

desktop haswell and broadwell and you're

gonna go through and just make all the

changes you need to make to this config

you have to be very careful you're doing

the right thing and you're reading

everything properly go file

oc clean snapshot and that will grab all

the files you put in your usb directory

go to the oc folder and click select

folder

and there you go it populated your

drivers and your aml files and

everything that you've added so far to

your usb into the config.p list so it

understands what it is okay and they

tend to highlight what you need to do in

red

so let's go down to

quirks and set these according to your

document

apple cpu pm config lock should be false

enable for 1010 and older this one

should be true custom symbios guide

false stable mapper true lapic kernel

panic that's not i'm not an hp system

panic no kex dump true power timeout

kernel panic

true and xhci port limit true make sure

you always save your file okay keep

going down it's important to read all of

this stuff i'm kind of skipping to the

highlighted portions for now next thing

we're going to do is go under

miscellaneous debug put apple debug to

true in

apple panic to true target

scan policy this is under security so we

want allow nvram reset to be true we

want allow set default to be true we

want scan policy to be zero and

i'll leave this default and i'll leave

the vault optional so i'll put optional

here always save your file next thing we

need to do

envy ram boot args so we want to keep it

in verbose which is dash v keep sims

equals one

let's add the

debug equals zero x

100 and alc

id doesn't matter to me because alc id

has to do with

on-board audio and i'm not doing that

not worried about nvidia web drivers or

anything like that platform info so what

we need to do is

generate these values and i'm not going

to show you this part because i don't

want to get my serial number copied but

let me just go like this

and i'll just talk you through this so

download the gem symbiose application

download the zip extract that and i'm

going to

run the batch file

gensymbios.bat and i'm going to go

always refer to the document too just

make note what symbiose that you want to

use

based on your architecture so what you

do is when you run the gen symbiose

application click three generate

symbiose and then it asks you please

type the symbiosis and gen numbers and

then generates on the screen you see a

type a serial aboard serial smu id and

apple rom so you need to copy these

values over to

the config.p list type gets copied to

system product name serial

gets copied to

system serial number board serial gets

copied input under generic mlb and smu

id goes to system uuid make sure you

save that file underneath generic i have

my

unique values next thing you want to do

is

keep scrolling down

uefi it should be already filled out

already apfs audio i'm not worried about

input

output protocols quirks

also critical

if you haven't already make sure your

bios is set properly

you want to enable vtx

and all these other settings in your

bios sata mode should be ahci

you want this handoff

ehci to xhci handoff

enabled and you need to follow the the

guide based on your bios

what should you have enabled or disabled

next thing we're going to do is go ahead

and try the installation process

so that means i'm going to reboot my

computer and i'm going to see do i

eventually reach the mac os installer or

do i get some kind of error this is

basically the moment of truth to see did

you do all your homework did you do all

your work did you read every line did

you do everything properly

or did you miss something so i'm going

to restart the computer and see how that

goes okay guys that boot didn't work i

have to

go through the document and see

what did i miss in my config settings it

looks like i skipped over the section

where i have to configure my display

then i'll continue to go through this

document and see what else i might have

missed

okay one more thing i did was change the

min date and min version on apfs

to negative one

okay guys so along the way i hit a few

bumps in the road i was receiving this

error

and i was getting stuck every time i was

rebooting

and

along the way i fixed a few things that

were necessary so i got my device

properties to be correct i also

tweaked a few of the flags according to

the document that i might have missed

on the initial

walkthrough

so you have to go through carefully and

make sure each one of these flags and

all the quirks are correct according to

your

architecture

the major thing that i

made a mistake on was in the symbios

i

initially chose imac 16 2

reading the document incorrectly

turns out because i have a dedicated gpu

but it's an nvidia card i'm turning it

off

i had to use an imac 17.1 that was the

only way it was going to boot

so imac 17.1 is my correct symbiose

and i just want to show you my boot args

real quick

i added

debug equals i had a minus sign by

accident

equals 0x 100.

and alc equals one alcid equals one is

fine

i added this boot flag w e g n o e gpu

that turns off my nvidia graphics card

so this is the correct boot args

i'm able to reach the installer which

i'll show you and i will go through the

installation of monterey but

i just wanted to give a thank you and

a big shout out to the community of

hackintoshers

on reddit as well as

discord

i could not have gotten through this

without them

there's a few individuals that helped me

out quite a bit

guys when you're in trouble and you

cannot get your

usb to reach the installer

and you've tried everything and you've

read the document over a dozen times and

you just can't figure it out

it's fine to put a detailed post on

reddit

and hopefully get the support of the

community on there

also the discord community can be

helpful too depending on what time of

day you ask a question you might get a

good answer from somebody out there

so

please don't give up the help is out

there

there's plenty of tutorials but

when it comes down to it sometimes you

have such a specific architecture and

situation that you need somebody

with hands-on experience to just look at

your particular environment and help you

to get set up next thing we're going to

do is boot to the installer and install

the operating system

okay what you do is you hit delete when

the motherboard comes up

and go to boot menu and choose your usb

drive

now if you made the usb in windows like

we did you need to hit the space bar

here to see the other options

wait a second

and then

select usb external

this part takes a second

finally comes up with some text you'll

see some logs scroll across the screen

and if you do your configuration right

you should get a

good number of logs

to keep scrolling

and there we go we reached the mac os

monterey

installer

and what i'm going to do

what i did was insert a new ssd in my

computer uh the reason being i don't

want to overwrite big sur it's

completely stable right now in my

working

computer and uh so i wanted to install

monterey on a separate disk just to

check it out test it out i did not want

to overwrite big sur at this time so i'm

going to go to disk utility

and from here on out

uh it's pretty intuitive but

what you want to do is you go to your

drive

and you gotta erase that

and initialize it as apfs

i'm gonna call this

uh

i'll call it monterey

ssd just so there's no confusion

okay so now we have enough a separate

disk that we could use so let's close

out of disk utility

and

it looks like a recovery but i'm just

going to say reinstall

mac os monterey

continue

you need to agree to the

license

and then choose the correct ssd uh i've

named mine monterey ssd typically you

just call it macintosh ssd

if you only have one

let's just let this sit here and install

and i'll time it for you

so when it reboots you have to go back

to the

usb drive

and then you want to continue on mac os

installer

okay when it reboots again

you want to press

delete now you could fix this by setting

your usb as the default boot device but

every time it reboots you kind of got to

choose that one

that collect installer

reboots

again sure it goes to the usb

now you have monterey ssd available as a

boot option

it's going down for another reboot

once again we're going to boot to the

usb

choose monterey ssd

and then congratulations you made it to

the monterey install

choose your country

and then all in all this

install took about 40 minutes for me

uh choose your language

accessibility

i will connect to wi-fi because i want

airplay to work at some point

and then i'm not going to

restore at this point i'm not going to

use monterey as my daily driver

so i'm just going to say not now i could

do that later

i'm not going to sign in with my apple

id right now

but i will later

i'm going to enable location services

i don't care about this stuff

screen time sure

i'm going to choose auto so it it will

be

light during the day and dark at night

and then identify your keyboard

and there you go we're in monterey

congratulations you made it this far

so

now what you could do is look around the

operating system

but keep in mind the boot installer is

still in debug mode it is still on your

usb

i will leave a link in the description

to the post install steps i use for big

sur they're going to be very similar to

the monterey

post install steps but basically you're

going to copy your

efi from the usb to

the

efi of the monterey ssd

and you are going to map the usb

using the usb map tutorial

and you're going to turn everything

from debug to release and

you're going to possibly use a gui

picker rather than the text picker

for the boot and

you know set your boot device as the

monterey ssd in your bios

but basically you have everything going

if you're using usb inject all at this

time like i said use the usb map

dot kext

as your final solution

but congratulations you made it to mac

os monterey
