shelter has done in a storm.

gonna be in real trouble here.

out of bamboo,

so that we can
always have dry tinder.

Narrator: A quarter of a
mile down the same beach,

Rylie and Christina
are still trying to solidify

their shelter in the
wake of manu's tap out.

- We need to grab that firewood.

Rylie: It's starting
to come down.

I'm saddened that
manu left, you know,

because it's just
going to be a lot harder.

Christina: So we just
want it to stop raining

so we can like...

Finish our shelter
and get a fire.

I don't think that's
too much to ask.

We're willing to
continue to be miserable.

We just want to be a
little bit less miserable.

Narrator: Five
miles to the west,

the resourceful team of
Duke, James, and Gabrielle

have seen their
protein options dwindle.

♪

James: Really tough
trying to live here.

We may have to start thinking
about how to get out of here.

There's no usable fruit,

and the protein is
really, really minimal.

Gabrielle: We're
literally starving.

We can't do this.

Last night was a little rough.

We had a pretty bad
rainstorm come through.

We know that it's
a matter of time

before there's another storm.

So, we figure it's time to move.

Chances are good
that wherever we go

is gonna be more
resource rich than here.

So, we're talking a raft?

Yeah.

I don't think there's
a hike access here.

We should be able to
travel a greater distance.

Yeah.

With less effort I
think, in the water.

In the water, yeah. Yeah.

Yeah, definitely.

James: The group has
made a plan to fashion a raft,

and we're gonna
hit the high seas

and find us a better location.

Duke: We're using several
pieces of driftwood that we found,

and because there's
very little cordage,

we're gonna use
rope from the cast net.

We disassembled it
into individual strands,

and we're gonna
use those strands

to lash the logs and
wood to each other.

Do a loop around, and
then go to the middle.

Great idea, Gabby.

Going out into the open ocean

where there's something
that can kill you,

for us to go out there without
any fear would be stupid,

but I know that our
desire to be successful

in this challenge is greater
than any fear that we have.

It's time to go.

James: Looks like we've got
a sandy beach and palm trees.

There's clearly more resources
than what we have now.

Gabrielle: All
right, let's get going.

Narrator: The survivalists
will head four miles

up the coast around
their rocky peninsula

in hopes of finding a safe
cove with greater resources.

But in these open waters,

they'll be vulnerable to
venomous sea snakes

and highly aggressive
gray reef sharks,

which can grow up to 12 feet.

All right, one, two, three.

James: We do know
there's sharks out here.

Personally saw one
yesterday morning,

but our feet are beat up,

our backs are sore,
our stomachs are empty.

We're ready to go.

Duke: We're gonna be
in the water for a while,

but the last three days, it's
been whitecaps out there,

and that's open ocean.

It's a little daunting.

We have to take a chance,

because we can't survive
for 40 days in razor rock cove.

- Let's get out of here.
- Good riddance.

Narrator: Eight
miles down the coast,

the newly merged group
continues to adapt to life

as a team of six.

♪

- You good, Max?
- No, I'm great.

Charlie: All right, we
can come more to me.

A little fire in the
corner, big fire over there.

Oh, yeah, good call.

This place is really nice.

The sand, I can s... I can walk.

I can sit!

Ahh, no rocks.

I'm not guaranteeing
drips, like I said.

This is not a new tarp.

I'm guaranteeing that
it'll be more comfortable

for all parties involved.

Duck, Russell and I,
we're the redemption guys.

We survived seven
days with eating nothing.

We went through hell, but
now we got shelter and water.

It's getting a lot better.

Things are looking up.

We're gonna do good,
we're gonna finish this.

40 days.

Nicole: Oh, my gosh
Russell, that burn.

Russell: All the way
up to the butt cheek,

that's how burnt I got.

Oh, I can't watch
that. That's gross.

Wow.

So when I say I was burnt...

- Oh, yeah, burned bad.
- I was burned.

Max: It's day eight,
and I feel good.

Now that we got more people
here, we've got more morale.

We've got more hands on deck,

just the go get 'er mentality
that just showed up is huge.

It's night and day difference

from the beginning
of this challenge,

but now that these
guys are here,

we obviously need
to start focusing on

going out there and
really searching for food.

So I'm making a paddle,

in order to paddle the raft
that these guys came in on,

and explore that other
little jetty/cove over there.

I've been wanting to explore
that jetty since we got here,

just 'cause I see
coconut trees over there.

I see there's a potential to
get a resource for everybody.

Got the scoop right
there, it's gonna do work.

Charlie: I'll walk
down there with you

help you pull the
raft into the water,

'cause it's heavy.

Angela: I am worried about Max

getting those
coconuts by himself.

This water here, you've got a
lot of riptides and undertows,

and, you know,
there's sharks out there.

There's all kinds
of things out there

that literally put you in a
situation that can kill you.

Here we go. You got it.

You can let go, we got it.

- All you, pal.
- Yep.

Angela: And if you don't have
anybody around, you're screwed.

up to a shelf about 40 feet.

It looks like it's dropped,
and I can't see the bottom.

We're getting into
open water here.

- I can see him.

Duke: Three meters

Jeff: Going fishing today!

Laura: Yesterday we
didn't catch anything,

but today we have a
bunch of hermit crabs,

and this incredible ocean,
such an amazing resource,

and to make it 60 days, we
need to find some protein.

It looks like this thing went
through a storm or something.

Yeah, no kidding, huh?

Laura: We had a
huge storm roll in,

and our boat got
beat up pretty bad,

and so I'm really nervous

because that thing
is ready to fall apart.

It has a giant hole in it, so
you have to constantly bail,

and at any point in time,
that thing could fall apart

and sink to the
bottom of the ocean.

Ready for some fishing?

Hell yeah! Open seas!

[ Both cheering ]

Max: Going to get
coconuts is, by far,

the most aggressive move
I've made during this challenge.

You know, there's
sharks in there.

There's poisonous snakes.

I mean, the most venomous
snake on the planet

is in the water.

You know, it's just that
potential of getting food.

You got to do
what you got to do.

I really want to be able
to provide for my team.

So apparently just...
Coasting along this cape here.

I'm taking my time.

A long swim.

If I get some coconut
in me, it's gon' be a'ight.

Duck: Angela, Nicole, and Max,

they say it's very
little resources here,

but, hey, we find
stuff new every day.

We might've spotted something
they haven't seen yet, you know?

I'm not sure what these are,

but I don't want to
leave 'em behind

just in case they're good.

They're different,
I ain't seen 'em.

But if they're no good,
I'll just throw 'em away,

but if they're good, it
could be a new find.

Something's good about
'em, something's eating 'em.

Charlie: Right in here, Russ.

Check out this fruit.

Hell yeah, dude.

All about it,
bubba, all about it.

Russell: After getting here
and not eating in seven days,

I'm hungry and I want
to get something to eat,

and I'm happy to
eat anything we find.

Narrator: High in
vitamin c and sugar,

each fruit of the dankelon
tree provides about 20 calories,

but the citrus fibers
can affect digestion,

causing severe abdominal cramps.

This is good, dude.
Yeah, good, huh?

I wouldn't go too much, man.

Duck: I've ate that.

- I've ate one of those already.
- How was it?

It tastes like a corona lemon.

He said you're only supposed
to eat one of 'em, though.

Nicole: No, you
cannot eat the seed,

and don't eat too much of it.

Nicole: The fruit
they found is edible,

but you shouldn't eat too
much or it could make you sick.

You don't want to risk that.

That could be
what takes you out,

and I don't want
that for myself,

and I really don't want
that for my partners.

Russell: My survival
game is very simple.

It's like a scavenger mentality.

You know, I have an iron
gut when it comes to this,

and I think that's another
one of my strategies.

That's the ability to eat

what you can get
when you can get it.

- This tastes delicious.
- Anybody check on Max?

We haven't seen him.

He was... he must've been
already around the peak.

We came out and it
wasn't five minutes,

and he was nowhere to be found.

Max, I get kind of concerned
about him out there by himself,

especially being in the
water, anything could happen.

You know, so I just
hope that he's safe.

He may have got a good current,

and it just took his
ass right the hell out.

Well, it's either
that or he drowned,

and I'm thinking, you know.

That raft is not
the most steerable.

Yes.

Laura: We gotta bail some water.

Jeff: All right.

This boat's falling apart.

So we're just drifting.

So there's no way for us
to anchor down out here,

so for the meantime,

we're just gonna float around,
try to catch a couple fish.

It's not easy.

Laura: Dude, you gotta
bail. I can't crack bait anymore

'cause I can't get to the
ground through the water.

- You want the...
- Give me a bailer.

Give me a bailer. No,
no, no, the little one.

The little one? Okay. [ Groans ]

Okay. I might try to tie
another weight to my line.

Narrator: Using
sand crabs as bait

and small rocks as weights,

Jeff and Laura have dropped
multiple hooks in the water,

but an inability to
steady their boat

risks tangling the lines.

Laura: Come on.

Jeff: Gosh, there's
like nothing in here.

Like, it's freaking empty.

I'll be so happy when
we get our shelter done.

Yeah.

All we have to do
today is put this on,

make an awning,
and get our fire done.

We have one
almost built shelter.

We have no fire, but we
have an endless supply

of wet firewood
drying for tonight.

I'm really happy to have
Christina as a partner.

She is a workhorse and
there's only two of us,

and we're by ourselves, but
I think we can make it work.

And that's how you do.

This challenge, I'm definitely
more prepared mentally

than I was on
the last challenge.

So, my goal is stay in there,
stick with it, no matter what.

Gabrielle: This is a
hell of a long swim.

Duke: I see palms. I
can't believe my eyes.

This looks like paradise.

I see some sand.

- That looks so inviting.
- Yes.

Something that's
other than rocks.

[ Laughter ]

Gabrielle: All right, you
guys ready to make this push?

Yeah.

- Yo, we are close.
- Oh, watch it!

- Oh, yeah.

James: It was a relief
just to hit the ground,

and it was a nice feeling

to know that we
made it to the beach.

It really, really
boosted the morale.

Gabrielle: We just
swam all the way

from razor rock cove to
this beautiful, sandy beach.

This place looks like heaven

compared to the hell
we've been living in.

How 'bout this
feeling underfoot, huh?

That's pretty nice.

Duke: Are y'all shoulders sore?

their not so ripe ones ripening,

and sleeping mats made of palm.

James: They've
gotta still be there.

Guys, I feel a little

could be very dangerous.

so that's why I'm
worried about him.

He actually found
coconuts bigger than mine.

I can't believe it. The
guy got 10 coconuts.

Nicole: Oh, hello.

Oh, that's
disgustingly beautiful.

Angela: We probably, in a week,

have not taken in
more than 300 calories.

One coconut at 100 calories
apiece, three cups of juice,

is 300 calories in one serving.

That's a huge score,
that's a huge deal.

Russell: Give that to Charlie.

I'm gonna take that right there.

It tastes beautiful, Charlie.

but the lack of sleep

really taking a toll on me.

Rylie: I don't know

Her stomach is always hurting,

and she's in a
lot of discomfort.

I feel so extremely bad

positive part of the team,

but she's also an incredibly

really harsh conditions.

just because we're
trying to get to that 60.

On most previous
"Naked and Afraid XL's,"

the groups merge,

and honestly I've never
thought of anything but merging.

But now the clock's ticking,

and we need to make
a waterproof shelter

to get through the night
and keep us warm and dry.

This is good.

I mean, I'd rather have
the rain during the day.

We can see how it's flooding.

Duke: Yes, there it is.

So I'm thinking that's
something to avoid.

How's that base
look? The start point.

Is that a good spot for
you? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Jeff and Laura
have their own plan

and there's no need to
force camps to go together.

If we're happy
living separately,

then let's continue that.

We live here now.

This is it. This is
where we're living.

It's gonna be our new house.

It's a little drippy at
the moment, but...

Narrator: At the far
end of the same beach,

Christina's health
rapidly declines.

Her heart is racing.

She can't catch her breath.

She feels really weak
and dizzy and out of it.

So, we called a medic

because this is
incredibly concerning.

Narrator: Christina's
blood pressure

reading of 95
over 70 is very low

and could be reflective of a
much more serious condition,

such as dehydration,
malnutrition,

or severe infection.

It's decided she must be
moved to the medic camp

for further testing overnight.

Rylie: I don't know what's
wrong with Christina.

I just... I hope she's
okay. I'm really worried.

Okay.

Narrator: If she
can't be stabilized

or her symptoms worsen,
the risk to Christina's health

could force her to
leave the challenge.

Christina: I'm not
tapping. There is no way.

Russell: Got up this morning
before everybody else did

and decided, "get up
and go look for food."

We've got a whole
bunch of coconuts,

but my survival
skill is scavenging.

I'm really good at it.

I think everybody else
overlooks finding the little stuff.

They feel like it takes too
much energy to get them.

But I'm willing to use
that energy to get them.

What you trying to do there?

Trying to find something
other than low-hanging fruit.

Some of this higher
stuff like up here.

Trying to find the good ones.

Just hoping the
branch doesn't break.

It's got an acid in there

that will make your
stomach start burning.

But once it's ripe, it's good.

Christina: You know,
I am feeling better.

Narrator: Keeping
Christina overnight

appears to have
stabilized her vitals.

But not all the news
regarding her condition is good.

Christina, the medical
staff has concluded

that you do have an infection...

A urinary tract infection.

Your infection is not something

we treat medically
properly out here.

If you were inside
and sleeping and eating

and not getting
ravaged by sand fleas,

it might be a different story.

It is an infection,

and we have to take
infections very seriously, so...

leave the challenge,

Sure.

Christina: I understand
that my health comes first,

but I'm really sad
to leave so early.

And I know it's only 11 days,

but it's been one of
the toughest challenges.

What's really amazing
is it's the 11th day

and I'm still mentally
positive and happy.

And, you know, when
I did my last challenge

and on 11th day, I was
completely just mental,

like going crazy,
but I did push myself

way too hard and
I shouldn't have.

I'm going to miss Rylie.

Like, I feel bad that she's
already lost one partner,

and now she's losing two.

But it's hard for me to
even, like, move around.

Everything is hurting right now.

And I wish all the other
survivalists the best of luck.

just left. She tapped.

She became my friend,
so I'll miss her, but...

Survivalism is so
hard by yourself.

I thought for sure I wasn't
gonna have to deal with that

because I had two really
strong good partners.

And now we're on day 11.

by myself again.

I'm just trying to process that
because this is really tough.
