to cross that finish
line in 60 days.

[Steven] So I
finally see a nutria.

Uh, we try to corral it,

and he ended up swimming away.

Maybe we'll get lucky.

Because this is the
first rat I've seen.

I thought this was
some bayou myth

that somebody keeps talking
about, these giant rodents

that look like beavers out here.

It looked delicious, honestly.

Oh yeah. I'm gonna eat him.

This is his zone for sure.

All right. Let's do this thing.

[Steven] So, what I
figured I'm gonna do,

I'm gonna get a pole,
about 14-15 feet long.

I'm gonna hang
several slipknot snares,

all the way down this pole,

I'm gonna sink it
right into the ground,

and man, it would just
really make me and Jeff's day

to put a big 'ol
swamp rat on the grill.

Coming together.

- Slowly but surely, here.
- Yeah.

[Jeff] Eating a
nutria would be great.

This is the same animal

that gave me a
parasitic infection

on my ballsack.

If there's anything out here
I wanna kill, it's this thing.

[Steven] No matter
what, he has to go

through this gauntlet of terror.

And I'm hoping, if
one even just trips up,

and kind of panics himself
in the gallows over here,

he's gonna start moving around

and get himself more
tangled in the other snares.

Crazy dude. But we have to
work together for the greater good

for us to get to
the finish line.

[Max] We're in a tough position

to try to get food on the table.

We've had, you know,
some catfish here and there,

but we haven't seen
a gator in this area for

at least a week.

And now we're at a point
where it's almost at a standstill.

Seems that lady
luck left with Amber.

[Gary] We ain't seen
gators in the swamp.

[Max] Yeah. Concerning.

[Gary] Yeah. It is concerning.

[Max] Big old
vulture flying up there.

[Gary] Yeah, it's circling,
'cause it's staring at us, dude.

[Max] These [bleep]
about to die. [Laughs]

[Gary] Yeah, let's just
circle over these two guys.

They look pretty promising.

Not today vultures, not today.

[Narrator] Sixteen
miles to the north,

for Matt, Ryan and Rylie.

[Matt] Oh yeah!
Snake-slayer, Rylie!

Are you gonna drink some blood?

[Narrator] Small victories
have brought new life.

But they know that
won't be enough

to survive 60 days in the swamp.

[Sighs] Might just get down and
bait that gator line down there.

Get some fresh stuff,

and check the traps.

We'll see if... See if
they might start moving.

It's finally warm enough
today for the first time in the last

ten days we've had a chance.

This is true.

[Matt] For the last
about ten days,

I haven't seen
a single alligator,

and we're getting hungry.

As I hear my team-mates
talk about hunger and food,

it drives that inner
drive inside of me,

like I need to hunt, I need
to fish, I need to get food.

So, like a true warrior today,

gonna push forward.

Let's see what we find.

Hopefully, there's
something there.

We could really
use a big... a big win.

[Matt] So on this one,
I've got that catfish head.

Oh, the bait's still there.

Definitely nothing
hit that bait all night.

We got a gator on
the line, I believe.

We haven't seen

to nine foot alligator on the line.

warrior before they go into battle to...

Oh, that's a nice gator.

[Matt] That's a
nine-footer right there.

[Rylie] This is
gonna be a tight fight.

[Matt] We have a big gator.

This is easily double the
size of the last gators we got.

You can't just dispatch
him with a knife.

This gator, it needs
a couple arrows,

and a whole team effort
to bring him into shore,

dispatch him safely,
and game over.

Once we get him in, we're
gonna get a second line on him.

'Cause what we don't want
him to do is rip off anything.

Get this second line on. Then
we'll stick him with some arrows.

[Ryan] Yep.

Now you gotta harvest this
thing that can kill you with one bite,

and drag you out into the
water and death roll with you.

You got to have
a good grasp on it.

Having one hook and
one line from one side,

Riley's gonna move to the right.

I'm gonna put the noose
down over the top of its jaw

and move to the left.

So now you've got
two points of contact

holding this alligator,
pulling both ways,

so Matt could safely
approach it from the side

and deliver a couple
vital organ shots

with the bow and arrow.

It's solid.

- Oh, it's fighting.
- [Ryan] He's fighting now.

- [Rylie] It's running.
- [Ryan] He's going there.

[Rylie] All right. Let's
get in formation. Fold.

[Ryan] Woo!

Oh, yeah.

- [Matt] Holy [bleep]!

[Matt] Don't wrap the string

- [Matt] He's got way more fight than the last one.

[Ryan] Hand.

thing for a second.

[Ryan exhales]

[Rylie] That's a dinosaur.
That's a monster.

- Alligator gladiators.

Gator bites for days.

- [Ryan grunting] Holy mother!
- [Matt] Yeah, buddy.

[Rylie] This is gonna be
an all-day process, y'all.

Hope you got your sleep.

[Ryan] Having a
nine foot alligator,

two hundred to
250 pound reptile,

this point in the
challenge, day 24,

this is humongous.

This is at least two
weeks' worth of food

off of this one alligator.

[Matt] What are we
gonna name this guy?

[Rylie] This one needs
a beast of a name.

[Ryan] He needs a monster name.

- [Matt] Maximus.
- [Rylie] Yeah.

- [Ryan] Maximus, I love it.
- [Rylie] I love it.

[All laughing]

[Rylie] So you're gonna
try to get the tail off

then I can work on that.

Yeah. Yup. I'll
do the tail first.

At this point, I've got a lot
of experience with alligators.

We've gotta get these
things smoked, hung

and try to eat certain
things at certain times.

Like that tail, that's where
they keep all their fat.

We have to cook that.

It's almost a high stress
of eating and processing

and a lot more eating.

We got 48 hours on this food

before flies, the
moisture in the air,

everything makes it rancid.

And so using what we've learned

from the first gator we caught,

anything that we can't eat

right away tonight or tomorrow,

has to be jerky

and that's the
key to our survival.

Ryan is stringing up
jerky lines in our shelter

and our shelter serves
as our smoker as well.

[Matt] Meat delivery.

- [Rylie] Woo!
- Can I grab that liver off there?

[Matt] Yeah. I wanted that.

You can just set that
right there on the floor,

just like everything else.

You just cook that
with the fat on it.

[Ryan] So, you've never
eaten alligator liver?

No. No.

Just never desired
to eat? Never tried it?

Yeah. Just never part of
the main menu of things.

It's a definitely
worth a try though.

I've never eaten
alligator liver.

However, our plan is actually

to consume all that fresh meat

while we have that
jerky stored away

for a rainy day

or after a week or
so of us not eating

when we need to start
cutting into that supply.

It's cooked all the way,
that's all the way through.

- [Matt] That's perfect.
- [Rylie] Yeah.

[Rylie] I wanna see what
your reaction is to that pate.

So a liver on an animal
is one of the most

nutrient filled
parts of the organs

and it has a lot of iron.

Out here we are craving iron.

We're working hard everyday.

And so this liver,
it's worth eating.

Alligator liver.

Bon appetite.

[Ryan] That's
absolutely delicious.

- Yup.
- What? This is super mild.

[Ryan laughs] I know. I
was not expecting that at all.

- This tastes like something you put on a sandwich.
- [Ryan] Wow.

- [Ryan] Yeah.
- [Rylie] More people should eat this.

Well, that's really incredible.

I'm glad we tried it.

[Matt] Mm-hm.

[Narrator] Nine

EJ enters his 10th
day of solo survival.

And the challenges of
battling the swamp alone

are starting to mount.

[Bleep]

[EJ] All right.

Checking my fishing lines.

See if we got anything.

Good morning, day 25.

And I'm throwing everything
I got but the kitchen sink

at the food situation.

I've got a gator trap out,

I've got several
fishing lines out.

Oh, man.

I think a gator got me.

And I have not gotten
anything in my belly.

That's disappointing.

Let me check this one over here.

I could get down on
myself, be negative about it.

But I'll be positive.

Not get ambushed by frustration.

Oh, whoa! Bullfrog!

[Grunts]

[Grunting]

He's gone.

[Sighing in exhaustion]

It was huge. Huge.

Big sucker.

And I must've
looked like a psych,

this big ogre trying to
tackle this little bullfrog.

[Sighs in exasperation]

That sucks.

The lone wolf just keeps
throwing everything he's got

at this thing just to put
some food in my belly.

These frogs all
come out at night.

So I think a little night hunt,

little frog gigging,

is in order tonight.

Need to develop a torch.

All right. That's the base.

Wrap that all with
vine all the way up.

Put that hole in there.

I got some cypress shavings.

Some smashed moss.

[Narrator] Bullfrogs
avoid daytime predators

by being more active at night.

And since their
eyes reflect light,

a torch increases the
odds of spotting them.

Awesome.

Next on the agenda,

I'm gonna make a gig spear here.

This is a common
used swamp spear.

People use it for fish,

or gigging frogs or lizards,
or even small mammals.

And I will split it to
make four prongs.

That's my first split.

Perfect.

The spikes for the gig
are already starting to form.

Just gonna put
points on them now.

It's like having a hand.

So it's like four fingers

and you capture everything.

So you got four points that
are gonna hit your target,

and pin it down.

The idea is just to capture
them before they get away.

This is all secured
with the vines.

Just gotta fire hard the tips

and dry out the
spear a little bit

then it'll be ready for action.

Ready for tonight's hunt.

[Making hunting sounds]

I'm gonna go check the snares

and just start
grabbing piles, dude.

[Jeff] Sounds good, man.

[Steven] I got a
few snares set up.

It's literally like 11 snares

on one 14 foot pole.

I put them right where
homeslice was coming in and out.

So hopefully, we
have a, you know,

swamp rat dinner tonight.

[Animal groaning]

[Bleep]

I think there's a
nutria over there.

[Animal groaning]

There's definitely
something over there.

I knew he was gonna be here.

Damn it. That means
he wasn't in the snare.

Man, these things are
quick and they swim.

Once they get under
all those lily pads,

they're gone, man.

I've always worked as hard as
I possibly can every challenge.

And Steven, he's
the same type of guy.

And as long as we
keep that mindset up,

there's nothing we
can't do out here.

You're gonna be fish bait.

You're gonna be
good fish bait too.

So I'm doing a little bait
experiment, if you will,

hunting for little
lizards and little skinks.

They're crawling all
over near our shelter.

They're fast little buggers.

I think if I can get
myself a couple,

I can bait my hook
for this evening,

and I'm hoping for
a fish dinner, baby.

Yes.

Nice frog. That's
gonna be great bait.

We've got legs as bait,

we've got the guts
that are gonna be bait.

That is killer.

I wanna be able
to turn this into fish.

Providing these
catfish a whole menu.

I'm putting a weight on
the very end of the line,

and then I'm putting two hooks

on their own little 10-inch line

hanging off of the main line.

The upper hook, I've got frog,

the lower hook, I've got lizard.

This will allow the
weight of the rock

to sink to the
bottom of the river,

and it will allow
both of these hooks

to float independently in
the current of the stream.

And, hopefully, that
will help these catfish

identify the bait more easily,
but also prevent this bait

from getting
snagged under water.

[Max] I feel like the
opportunities are sort of dwindling.

[Gary] Yeah, we
can't hunt [bleep] here.

We need signs of life
on this little strip of death.

We're on a tiny strip of land
surrounded by mud and water,

so we don't have much
options for hunting grounds.

[Max] I saw a faint
potential game trail.

[Gary] Let's check it.

The way this place
is starting to look,

it's starting to
look pretty sparse.

Food is looking pretty scarce.

Not one water moccasin.

[Max] I mean, I'm not even
seeing crawfish anymore either.

[Gary] What kind of
cruel joke was this?

It doesn't look like
it's a type of place

that's gonna get
us to extraction.

So we're definitely considering

migrating or exploring.

[Max] I'm willing to
stick it out for, you know,

a handful more days

to see if we can get a big kill.

Yeah. 'Cause if we're gonna
end up not getting a gator,

- dude, we're gonna be starving.
- Yeah.

So I'm seeing
this faint game trail

that runs right here.

Yo, I think I'm seeing
some poop here.

- [Max] This looks like nutria crap.
- [Gary] Yeah.

[Max] It's earth
colored, it's torpedoed,

you know it's a
large rodent shape.

- I mean they're just a giant rat...
- Yeah.

...but I always say to myself,

you know, two days
into the challenge,

- "I'll never eat a rat."
- [Chuckles]

And then a week into the challenge,
like, "where's the closest rat?"

Yeah. Right?

So we're at the point where
"where's the closest rat?"

Got the noose right
here, it's kind of like that.

A little surgeon's knot.

[Gary] A beehive!

- Where? Where?
- [Laughs] Right there, dude! Check it out!

- [Gary] We're gonna have honey.
- [Max sighs]

Look at the size
of that tree, though.

Yeah, I mean,
I'm just concerned.

I'm fairly allergic
to bees, I believe.

And if I get stung in the face,

it'll [bleep] me up.

What we'll do
is, if I'm doing' it,

and they start getting
hyper, you leave.

I can handle bee stings.

- I've messed with bees a lot.
- Okay.

- I'm a beekeeper.
- Yeah, dude.

That sounds legendary.

And that looks like
a big, old rotten tree,

so I think that whole

inside of that is just
[bleep] honeycombs.

This is huge, you
know? For my sugar,

for our mental game.

And for just energy,
just to have sugar,

that will bump us up so much.

Aw, man, that's
gonna be, you know,

it's some work
cutting that tree down,

but if we get it down,

it's something to do towards
possible something to eat.

Chopping that down tomorrow.

we have going for us
out here in this swamp.

So grateful for him,

but that's something

I'm probably not
gonna do every night.

It was really risky,

I could have got a
mechanical injury,

I could have got hurt,

could have walked into a
moccasin nest and got bit.

You know, too many variables
could have went wrong with it.

Mmm.

But I needed to eat.

Definitely well
worth it. Well spent.

[Rylie] How'd you guys sleep?

I slept pretty solid.

- I mean, definitely feeling...
- [Matt] Food drunk.

[Ryan] Food drunk.

- It's insane.
- [Ryan] Yeah.

[Rylie] If we're
gonna keep hunting,

keep pushing, and
not touch the jerky,

theoretically, this could
take us all the way to the end.

[Matt] Oh, yeah.

[Ryan] Jerky is
completely dried out meat,

there's no moisture in it,

and that food itself
will last to day 60.

Our plan is actually
to save the jerky,

not even touch it
if we don't have to

and consume all that fresh meat

while we have that
jerky stored away.

- [Rylie] Yeah, we gotta eat or this will go bad.

that the eyeballs

of most animals and
fish are very good for you.

They are the only
natural saline in nature,

giving your body
some of those salts

that you really need out here.

[Matt] Okay. There it is, Ryan.

[Ryan] We're here for 60 days,

this alligator will
not go to waste.

Maximus' last eye.

It's my first alligator eyeball.

It was chewy, and salty.

catfish in a few days now.

I've taken all the
knowledge I've learnt

from four different continents
and five total challenges,

and I've put it into
this one fishing unit.

And I'm hoping that this thing

is gonna put dinner
on the table tonight.

This is the first time in any of my
challenges I've got two fish on the same line,

at the same time. Today
is a good freaking day.

The bag is heavy. I
feel like Santa Claus!

It's my partner, it's my buddy,
wouldn't ask for any other one.

The catfish ate the frog
bait, the gar ate the lizard bait.

[Man] Alligator gar
are prehistoric fish

with long snouts and
rows of razor sharp teeth.

That resemble their
killer namesakes.

These are truly prehistoric fish out
here. They have an armor on their outside

almost similar to an alligator
skin. It's very thick, it's very sharp.

But the inside it
tastes so good,

and I'm excited to bring
dinner to the table once again.

See this double fish master.

- Oh, you got a fatty!
- Oh, yeah! Look at the head on that baby.

- It was a monster.
- Yeah, hell yeah. We're eating good tonight.

- Flicking delicious.
- Cheers bro.

- Gar isn't meaty, catfish is definitely more oily.

dinner, this is huge.

These fish are gonna give us the
strength to hopefully get another gator.

And I feel like we're gonna be
fueling excellent at the half way mark

which is exactly, uh...
Where we want to be.

So, tonight we're gonna go to bed with full
bellies and go to bed grateful tonight.

Such a blessing.

We were setting a snare hoping
an animal would stumble into it.

- But nothing today.

of getting honey, which is just epic.

I am allergic to bees. As a kid I
got stung in and around the face,

and my face swole up really large. I
just hope I don't get stung in the face

and or repeatedly all over the

But getting the honey with wild
bees, butt naked. It's a bit of a puzzle.

When you smoke the bees out, they try
to suck up as much honey as they can,

and they take off. It also causes
them to be more docile because

when they get fat on
honey, they get sluggish.

step close to this tree.

I mean it's all calculated for Gary
because he's... He's dealt with bees.

It's just that I don't have, I
guess the enzymes or the...

The fortitude to survive
against multiple bee stings.

up of our shelter,

that we cannibalized

in order to create this raft.

This allowed us to use
wood that has been drying

for 20 something days

since we've
created this shelter,

using that is going
to be more buoyant

that would be a live wood.

fat for all kinds of things now.

We can render it down
and make lye soap,

we can lubricate our bleeds.

survival settings,

you don't have a ton of fat.

But this time we've got about

four pounds of
pure white clean fat

from this gator.

We're gonna split that in half,

and I'm gonna make soap.

[Matt] I like that sound.

[Narrator] The use of animal fat

or tallow to make soap

has been traced as far back
as five thousand years ago.

[Rylie] See how
clean that fat is?

It's like clear. It's
gonna be beautiful.

The first step of this

is to render down the fat.

Heating the fat up
and making sure that

all of the bits of flesh or meat

or anything that might be in
there that isn't just clean pure fat,

is taken out.

The next part is to make lye.

All right, so this
is just some water

and this is some white ash
from our hardwood fire last night.

[Narrator] Wood ash
contains sodium hydroxide,

a natural alkali that breaks
down the acid of the fat.

[Rylie] Lye is just
a caustic chemical

drawn out of the ash from
the actual wood content.

It's dangerous to work with.

You should be wearing
protective clothing and

it can cause you to go
blind if it gets in your eyes,

so goggles as well.

Lye is ready.

The fat still
smells really clean.

No stinky rancid, so the fat
part of this product is good.

[Matt] This soap
is not just for thrills.

This soap is
actually for survival.

We have a lot of time
left on this challenge,

I, myself as well as Ryan
have been fighting a parasite.

Better we can wash
ourselves with the soap,

the better we're gonna
stay clean and healthy

till the end of the challenge.

be solid like other soap,

'cause it's just too warm here,

let it cool a little bit.

It moves around on its own.

sheet of green stuff.

Like a blanket.

And it, kind of, moves
in. It's unbelievable.

So I have to move
it out of the way

and then put up, kind of, a
barrier, prevent it from coming back.

Because it will come back.

So, I think I got a
pretty good plan for that.

And we will attack today.

I need for this project,

I think my first, phase
one portion of this

is to clear this area
out so I can safely walk

up and through this willow.

And clear this portion of the
hyacinth behind this willow tree.

And I can put little
spikes in there.

approaching into my zone here.

This has been some of the
most tender meat we've had.

Really good.

[Ryan] All three of us are
wide awake and bushy-eyed.

We created a stew last night,

with all the bones, and the
rib cage, the back straps.

Pretty much everything
was utilized on this animal.

We still have about a
half a pot of soup left,

so we've added some of
our water to it, reboiled it,

and this is our breakfast.

[Matt] A drink of choice for...

For team savage is a fatty
broth... Alligator broth water.

[Ryan] It's just oil and fat,

and a little, tiny fat chunk
with some big fat chunks.

That's good.

That way, you know you're alive.

[Ryan] It's good. I like it.

It's thick enough that you
almost feel like you can chew it.

- [Ryan] Yeah.
- [Matt] But then it just, like, slurps right down,

- it's like... oh, that's exciting.
- [Ryan laughing]

[Riley] Even though we've
been eating consistently,

we do work so hard every day.

And I don't want to be
leaving here a little stick figure,

so we are gonna
put our level best

into eating every ounce of this,

and getting all of
our strength back,

so that we have enough strength
and fatty goodness to keep going.

I just feel nauseous.

we're about halfway through,

[EJ] Today is day
one after the injury,

so I've gotta
really just, kind of...

Chill out, whether
I like it or not.

And I realized that the swamp

is trying to get me off my game.

It's trying to provoke
me into a fight, a battle.

You gotta make sure to
make the best use of this.

And, uh, I'm still
coming after you.

I didn't want to cut
into the pelts just yet,

but, it is a major injury,

and I need to make
a loin cloth to protect

my little friends so
they may heal well.

Cutting this pelt
is just like, wow.

It's a resource,
this is a big deal.

You know, it provided
me comfort, warmth,

and I'm taking a
lot of that away.

So, I don't have traditional
needle and thread.

But what I do have is a fishing
hook and some fishing line.

I think this'll make
great stuff to sew with.

I'm gonna try it out.

Never done this before,
we'll see how it works.

This loin cloth,
that's protection.

To protect it from the
flies trying to bite me.

I wanna keep it clean and
make sure I've no complications.

I don't think it's enough
to go all the way around.
