I heard gravel thrown
up against the window.

so I ran downstairs as I was and slipped
out the back into the garden.

And there was the poor fellow at
the end of the garden, shivering.

I implored of him
to go home at once,

and told him he would get
his death in the rain.

But he said he did not want to live.

I can see his eyes as well, as well!

Did he go home?

Yes, he went home.

And after I was only a week
in the convent he died.

He was buried in Oughterard,

where his people came from.

O, the day I heard that,
that he was dead!

How poor a part

it's almost as
though I'm not your husband,

and we've never lived together
as man and wife.

but it's no longer the one for which
Michael Furey braved death.
