In this video I want to look at the
Vintage Limiter module, which is an

emulation of the Fairchild six seventy
and was often used as a nice warm

mastering limiter at the end of the chain
to just get the overall level up and add

its character and signature warmth now
I've run the master assistant on this mix

and it's done a nice job of analyzing
things.

stabilizer and amici Q and maximizer and
I've set it to this so it's doing a nice

job but what I'm going to do is get rid
of the maximizer and instead call up the

vintage limiter and use this instead so
this has got a couple of different modes

and as I mentioned it's modelled on the
Fairchild six seventy now when we're in

the analogue mode, it's got the fast
attack and variable release that the

Fairchild had with depending on the time
constant settings that you chose.

And this gives kind of like a tight base
response with a thick limiting quality,

which may or may not work with this song,
but that's what it's good for it brings

out the low end transients but it's also
smooth and here we've got two we'll go

through all of them and hear what they
sound like it's a little bit more

balanced with variable attack and release
times and it's got the smooth feedback

limiting and a wider range of of kind of
overall limiting across the spectrum

depending on the incoming signal that
probably will work to clean this up

nicely i'm suspecting and it's non
linear, but it's got that modern

precision and there's no clipping and
it's nice good peak transient analysis.

Then we have Modern which blends the
thicker characteristics of the analogue

vintage style and the tube kind of blends
them together and it uses the intelligent

release control limiting that we get with
ozone.

So we'll go through all of them now we
can turn on true Peak and set the ceiling

i'm going to set it at minus one and we
have here two different modes we have the

frequency spectrum and then we have a
gain trace over here so we can see how

much is happening.

Now the character is interesting and kind

of adjusts the overall attack and release
time.

Although they're dependent somewhat on
these settings, we can influence it with

this. I'm actually not liking Tube.

I thought I would.

This is definitely doing the most

aggressive limiting, yeah you can see the
attack slowing down as I dial this up.

Slower release, rather much quicker
release.

Keep it somewhere around there it doesn't
matter to me.

It may be touching my that's the whole
chain being bypassed.

So it's adding a real nice vintage kind
of character and there's the game trace

and we can see the frequency spectrum.

That's what it's doing, yeah that's

definitely the quickest and most
aggressive.

So that's the vintage limiter, an
alternative to the maximizer of course it

can be used anywhere in your signal chain
and individually on other instruments or

buses in your mix.

And it's got that nice kind of quality

with the three variable tonal, overall
tonal shapes, an response times and it's

a nice alternative.
