And I was just busy. Didn't respond.
And then he was like, "Hey, I'm in the church parking lot."
Across the street, there's a church.
And it's like he was, like, inching closer
and closer, like, "Hey, I'm at the bottom of the stairs,
and I'm gonna leave this bag."
Finally, I was like, thank you.
And it was, like, really, really sweet.
Everyone stepped up in such a way
that meant so much, and having Austen step up
is comforting. I'm glad I got to see him.
He's just been really kind and thoughtful with his words.
I mean, it's hard to stay mad at someone
who has experienced something similar.
Yeah, it just sucks that we have that in common.
But it's like a--
you know, it's a common ground, nonetheless.
It's nice to know that there are so many people
who can understand you
so you're not alone at all.

It was like a transcendent moment, you know?
There is a lot of emotion coming up
from you from your early-on loss of your sister.
I mean, I want so badly
to be able to say, like, the right thing.
And this is where it's hard because
you do have this messy history,
and I know that makes you nervous
because you don't want to hurt her.
That's why I'm here.

I've been talking to my parents a lot,
and I've never really thought about it before.
I've probably met two or three girls
that could have been, you know, the real deal.
But there's something that happens
for you that makes you pull back
and get afraid of the closeness.
I don't know why I get checked out.
Most people get very afraid of vulnerability.
Once the relationship gets to a certain level,
it gets scary, because then that person
really sees who you are.
And you don't want to lose somebody
once you both really see who each other is.
It's very scary because you know that pain
from when you were eight.

But then I think it also scares you
when it comes to that you're my person type thing.
Are we really gonna get married,
and have kids, and then potentially lose a child?
I mean, that's what real life can be.
Can I go through that with somebody?
I mean, that's the question that I ask myself.
And that's what we're continuing to work on,
is trying to sort that through so that you don't cause hurt.
And-- - I try not to.
But when I try to, like, massage a situation
to not hurt someone...
Right, yes, I think that's true, yeah.
It----ing backfires.
I mean, I'm telling you, I've gotten in my own way...

Things clearly just got so mixed up with Olivia.

And I wish that I had the right thing to say.
Right now, I think it's more important
to just be present for Olivia as friends,
as much as she allows that.
I mean, I think that's gonna be really good
and healing for both of you.
We've been texting since, which is wonderful.
I mean, in a way, I think she's comforted by the fact
that you get it.
Maybe that's my purpose in all this,
is to show her what time can do,
how to move on. - Yeah, how to move forward.
Move forward. There's no moving on.
You can give her some hope
that it won't always feel this bad.
Well, at this point, I feel like
the only way to screw it up is by not being there.
