All language subtitles for 11, Writing Melody & Lyrics

So by hopefully now you have your track
that you're not so pleased with, but

pleased with that kind of happy medium a
little bit you're making something that

you normally wouldn't make that's the
whole purpose of this lesson.

So now we're going to try and tackle some
lyrics.

I was toying around with the idea of the
lyric being on the the three and the four

where this comes in and not just
mimicking that melody in my mind when I

was making, I was like maybe the lyrics
should be really bad, like La La la but

then something kind of interesting popped
in my head about how things in life and

just in general seem to reinvent
themselves and recycle themselves and

come back like how there's like this
whole eighties music movement that's

happening right now it's a music that was
being borrowed from almost 30 years ago

it's now kind of being recycled and being
put into popular music again everything

comes back around everyone's obsessed
with the nineties all of a sudden they're

watching shows like Saved by the Bell
everything comes back around.

And when I said that to myself, it kind
of perfectly fell on top of these chords

the everything comes back around.

So we're going to try that i think one of

the most uncomfortable things for me is
writing lyrics in front of people, and

you guys won't, and you don't see it
right now, but there are people watching

me right now, so I have to write lyrics
in front of them.

So that in itself is sort of
uncomfortable for me even though these

guys are super cool, we're going to try
and tackle that.

Right now we have a very bare track and
with no drums and I I don't even plan on

really tuning up my voice too much or
going too crazy on the vocal layers i

just want my voice to stick out like a
sore thumb, which I hate i love to put

layers and effects on my voice, 'cause
I'm very insecure about my voice.

So in my mind it would be like someone

haven't figured out why in my mind,
someone saying that to someone, but it's

someone who is wishing in my mind this
song is about someone wishing that the

time right now, 2020 which is not an
amazing year, we all know it.

They're wishing that it could be 2015
which was a great year we could all go to

concerts, we could all go out to parties,
we could all socialize normally,

everything that seemed to be at Bay a
bit.

But maybe what this person's telling this
person is that, that they don't have to

worry everything's going to eventually
come back around and be fine.

It's really good actually.

Now the second-half of that I was

thinking of like a very, very long word
that you normally wouldn't say in a

where it kind of tricks your brain into

rhyme.

Ok, so that is the rough skeleton of the
song.

It's kind of like an upgraded version for
me and very unexpected because usually

I'd have a bunch of these melodies just
babbled out with non lyrics and I'd

figure it out later.

But in the spirit of being uncomfortable

to get comfortable, I wrote most of these
lyrics in front of the camera crew and

and the production, which is something
I've never done and I kind of wrote

something that I don't think I would
write really by myself.

So that's very cool so I urge you to do
the same thing maybe, I don't know, maybe

you can have like a couple friends just
like play video games or something in the

background when you when you make
something.

Or just have a try having an audience
when I used to write a lot with Ty Dolla

Sign, who's still a good friend of mine,
he always had his friends in the studio

because he's described it to me as like
performing.

And you can like feel the energy in a
room when someone likes something, they

kind of you can.

They don't even have to say anything.

It's just their body language that will
kind of react in a way.

So maybe that's what you should do.

Have a friend or your mom or dad, maybe

your dog someone you wouldn't normally
allow in your studio and you're creative

environment i think a a good lesson here
is to not be too precious about things

and you never know you'll surprise
yourself and make something that you

didn't think you could make.

I certainly did that right now.
