When you are working inside on ArcGIS
online, you can adjust the scale but

it is fairly limited in
term of what you can do.

When you click the + sign for
example to zoom in,

it's zooming in at a set zoom layer that's
tied to the way the web maps are designed.

So you can't just tell it I would like to
see the data at a scale of 1 to 100,000,

you have to look at it in
terms of the zoom layers or

zoom levels that are preset
by the developers.

So if we zoom in over here, you can
do this by clicking on the + sign or

if you have a scroll wheel on your mouse,
you can use that as well.

So if I zoom in, for example,
very quickly on New York.

And once you've done that, once you've
set it to a location in a scale

that you're happy with, you can
click on this bookmark menu item and

say Add Bookmark and, so,
if I just type in New York and close that,

then, when I save my map,
that will be saved for later.

So let's say I'm zooming around some more,
I'm going out and

looking at something else,
like the Great Lakes perhaps.

But then I say, I'd really like to
go back to exactly that scale and

location I was looking at for New York, I
can go to Bookmarks, select New York, and

it will zoom to exactly where I set it for
that.

So that's a really handy thing to have
available to you is to just know that if

you want to create bookmarks for different
parts of the world, different scales

that you're interested for different
projects, whatever it happens to be,

that you can use that handy little
thing for spacial bookmarks.

So that's a nice thing to know
