So Da Vinci has a specific tab

devoted to cutting down your footage
and making selects.

And it's called the cut tab.

Now, honestly, at first I didn't
really know what to think about this page,

and it kind of felt weird to me
that Da Vinci made a separate tab

just for this one job

because I was always used to doing it in
the edit tab where I did everything else.

But now that I've actually been using it
for a while, it makes so much sense to me

and I'm so stoked

that Da Vinci decided to rethink
the way that we cut down our footage.

So if we take a step back and analyze
the way that an editor

makes selects in the edit tab,
you'll see that they're constantly having

to zoom in and out of their timeline,
as well as scrolling left and right.

Over time, navigating your timeline
in this way can take up a lot of time.

And Da Vinci noticed that.

And being the forward

thinking software developers
that they are,

they decided to reinvent
the way that we are footage.

And that's exactly why
we have the cut tab.

Now, the main reason this tab is so great
is that we have two stacked views

of the same timeline.

On top we have the full timeline
and underneath that

we have a zoomed in section of wherever
our play head sits.

This allows us to have two views
of the same area of our timeline,

and this makes a huge difference
when making our selects.

Don't worry if this doesn't make
any sense to you right

now, you'll understand exactly what I mean
once you see how I work in the cut tab.

Now we also have some other really cool

features in the cut tab,
like source tape, as well as the sync bin,

which we will be diving into
in this section of this course.

But first, let's just go into the general
interface of the cut tab.
