The drama of four US Navy servicemen
charged with espionage in North Korea

has now moved into its 30th day.

Pentagon sources confirm that the
men, from a SEAL Special Forces unit,

had successfully completed their
mission before being taken prisoner.

The men are being held
in a remote prison camp near the DMZ.

Controversy rages over the incident,

the Communists insisting
the men will be tried as spies.

The trial, to be held
in the capital city of Pyongyang,

could begin as early as next week.

Mounting outrage in the US has led
to rumours of military intervention,

but the White House continues
to pursue the release of the men

through diplomatic means.

The president,
calling the prisoners ''hostages'',

has called the trial a sham,
simply an arena for propaganda.

However, under North Korean law,
if the men are convicted,

they could be executed.
