They may be a little faded.

You don't get much

eyes much good, though.

And these walls don't help any.

I can't figure out
whether they need cleaning

or that's the original color.

- You know, a light blue
might be nice in here

or maybe a pale green.

- That would be nice.

The only thing, though,
if you did that,

then you'd have to
change the drapes.

- Yes, I know.

- And if you change the drapes,
you'd have to recover the sofa.

- Oh, and that would be a shame.

It's so nice and faded.

- Uh, look, girls, I appreciate
your friendly suggestions,

but if I don't get
this work done,

Mr. Kelley is
liable to be making

some other changes around here.

And who knows, the new
man's wife and mother

may like the office
just the way it is.

It's just it's kind
of hard to visualize.

everything down to the office

I'm sure we can get a much

a very nice office.

possibilities.

It reminds me of an office that
we did for the Bradbury firm.

In fact, I believe I have a
picture of it here somewhere.

- Well, uh, to be honest
with you, Miss Winters--

- Oh, yes, here it is.

- Oh, yes, it looks very nice.

- You see, what we've
done here, we've given it

a strong, masculine look.

That's the way I see
your office, don't you?

- Well, uh, yes, I guess so.

- Mr. Bradbury was
interested in ships

so we used that as
our central theme.

I think this wood paneling
gives it a nice strong effect.

- Yes, it does.

Of course, I don't want
it to get too masculine.

I have a lot of women clients,
and I'd like the office

to appeal to them, too.

- Oh, of course, but
I do think it should

reflect your personality.

And you are definitely
the masculine type,

if I may say so.

- [laughs] I'd like to think so.

- [laughs] Besides, I think
you'll find your women clients

like a feeling of
masculinity in a law office.

It gives them a
sense of security.

For instance, if we took
the draperies all the way

to the ceiling and
widened them a little,

I think it would give them
a bolder, stronger look.

- Yes, I-- I see what you mean.

- Of course, this couch
is liable to present

a bit of a problem.

Does this belong to you?

- Oh, it was just
something I was looking at.

- Oh, well, it's a
very unusual pattern.

Of course, it wouldn't
be right for this room,

but it's very nice.

In fact, it would make a
very interesting sport coat.

- Yes, I guess it would at that.

- Well, why don't I
make up some sketches

and check back with you later?

- OK, that'll be fine.

- I hope I haven't taken
up too much of your time.

- Oh

on the beginning of it.

- It sure does.

That's what I need
the advice about.

- Well, I was talking
to June this afternoon.

She said you seemed very
pleased with everything.

Her plans, I mean.

- Well, yeah, I must admit
I liked her ideas at first,

but that was before I
talked with the decorator.

- You mean, you
hired a decorator?

- Well, not definitely.

That is, not yet, but she
stopped by this morning

and looked the place over
and made a few suggestions.

And they were a little
better than June's.

- And June didn't like the idea?

- Well, she doesn't
know about it.

She had a couple of girlfriends
over for dinner tonight,

and I didn't want to
start a big discussion.

- Oh, I'm sure she won't mind.

Just tell her.

- Would you tell Mom?

- No.

- See what I mean?

- I thought June had
some real good ideas.

At least, they
sounded good to me.

- Well, yeah, but
she doesn't seem

to realize that
decorating an office

is a little different
than decorating your home.

An office should reflect
a man's personality.

It should be strong
and masculine.

- It sounds to me
like the decorator did

a pretty good snow job on you.

- Well, maybe so, but she sure
knows what she's talking about.

I don't mean that June
doesn't have good taste.

She has wonderful taste.

It's just that decorating
is a profession.

- And you say she's a
very attractive girl?

- Who?
- The decorator.

- [laughs] I didn't say that.

- I'm only teasing.

- Uh, your mother's just
trying to figure out

how complicated this
whole situation is.

- Well, now that you mention
it, she is quite attractive.

- It's pretty complicated.

- Uh, getting back
to the subject,

your problem is that you like
the decorator's ideas better,

but you don't want to hurt
June's feelings, right?

- Well, that's the general idea.

- Well, yeah, I--
I've got one.

I don't know if
it'll work or not,

but at least it's worth a try.

- Well, it seems to me

surprise her with it.

Then she'll realize
that no matter

how good the intentions
are, a professional

can normally do a better job.

- Suppose it turns
out beautifully?

- [laughs] I don't think
there's much chance of that.
