the curtain rises

on the most massive
fleet battle

in the history
of naval warfare.

Japan has dispatched
a new weapon to Leyte

The divine wind

kamikaze plots,

whose suicidal plunges

sink 34 U. S. Ships
and damage 290 others.

The battle will rage
4 days and 4 nights

across 1,000 square miles
of Philippine waters.

American Leyte losses
