welcome to day one of the class

over the next 30 days

we're gonna be making music together

side by side

before I tell you about how this class is gonna work

I wanna share a little tidbit

of how I come up with songs

uh I have a very humanistic approach to making music

I never write anything down

I very rarely write anything down

the only time I'll write things down is when I'm I

I try to remember like

really complicated harmonies

I'll just write the notes down

like a C B E G

on a piece of note paper

but that's really the only time I try and make it

like a conversation

each song in my mind

has to be like a human conversation

something that a human would say

we don't talk anymore

you just want attention um

I I think in the the

the feeling you wanna evoke through your music um

to the listener

you want them to say

I feel like I've heard this song before

I feel like

because maybe they have

in another life or something

maybe they've said that lyric before in a conversation

but just not with melody attached to it

so if you get that

if you drive that point across

and listener feels like they've heard that song before

they're gonna instantly be attached that song

so it's really important to get that down at the very

very beginning

we're gonna be doing just that

by making the comfortable song

and the uncomfortable song over this next month

a comfortable song

being a song that you would love to make that you

a song that you love to listen to

say you love Steely Dan

you're gonna make a song like Steely Dan

I love Steely Dan

so I kind of will make

I think I'm gonna make a song like Steely Dan

but the uncomfortable song

um it's something that you normally wouldn't listen to

but by making something that

you normally wouldn't listen to

you're forcing your brain to rewire itself

and think a bit differently

and you might come up with something really dope
