Well, the idea was to be

able to have light all across.

And every
time you walk around,

you are looking outside.

Yeah,
you always feel you're

walking around the nature.

This
is my favorite place

to be with my kids because we
have to spend time together.

We are always cooking together.

This is a place to be
with your loved ones.

The mountain ridge here

has this cliff that sticks out.

So you get to see all around
360 degrees in all directions.

It's fabulous.

We are a very simple life
up here in the mountain.

For the last 15 years, we'd rent
a place very close from here

and that's why we
got to know this area

and that's how we
found this lot.

It was love at first sight.

We were not even
thinking buying.

But it was a place
that is gorgeous.

I'm so happy to be here.

When I come up to the
cabin, I open the door

and I see my living room
and the open kitchen.

It's not that big and
it's only one space.

And it just feels
like I'm at home.

The kitchen is
open because that's

the only way to
be with the family

and this is a family place.

The sunrise
wakes us up in the morning.

And when looking
towards the side,

we see the valley and
the mountain ranges.

So it's a beauty.

The altitude
of Blum house is 10,000 feet.

It's quite high.

It's
just across the Continental

Divide from Breckenridge.

It's among the largest
valleys that you can find.

So it's beautiful to
be on a mountain ridge

and be able to see all the
different mountain ranges.

And
it's a place you

don't know when
it's more beautiful,

in summer or in winter.

It's an isolated place, but
it's right in the middle

of everything.

It's so beautiful.

Well, the process of designing
the house was a hard one.

First, we say, oh, OK, this is
going to be a small cabin, just

a little house, a little room.

But no, no.

You cannot be that selfish.

I mean, I have to have my
kids and everyone coming.

My daughter and my son--

gonna get married.

No, I need a bigger
house, something

that could be closer to
nature and the nature

inside the house.

And that's how we end
up with this architect.

She believes in this concept.

Her name is
She believes

in the nature inside the house
and the openness of the space.

And that's why they chose her.

We always wanted to have
two cabins because I wanted

independence for my kids
to have their own privacy

with their couples.

So that's how we end up having a
separate little cabin for them.

Big cabin and little cabin.

Everything
has to be natural.

Floors are real wood.

It's walnut and birch--

Russian birch.

And even the
counters are cement.

Because
the winds can come up to 100,

120 miles per hour, they
had to specially design

windows that would withstand.

So
we have to decide

to have windows only to one
side, some parts of wood.

It was a lot of decisions.

With the roof, it's like old
stables from the neighborhood.

So it follows the style of the
neighbors but in a modern side.

Outside of the cabin,
we have the Jacuzzi.

We decide to go that
corner because we get

a nice view from the sunset.

After skiing, we come and
enjoy it before cooking.

And after the meal
time, all my kids-- they

love to go to the
fire pit, which

is right back here on the deck.

The two cabins

are connected by an
elevated walkway,

which is low maintenance
in terms of when it snows.

So the snow falls through.

It rises above the
ground and gives

us a sense of flying above.

Between the two cabins,
we have a natural tree

which was so beautiful.

It was a ponderosa tree.

So we make a hole to
make the whole deck

around and save the tree.

The
loft has a fantastic view.

It views all the way
down to the valley.

It's spectacular, inspirational
for an artist loft.

I always wanted
to be an active artist.

But because of life,
I end up studying

business administration.

At a certain point of my life, I
say, well, it's never too late.

And about 15 years
ago, I moved to Houston

and I did my master's in art.

So this place is beautiful
and it's very quiet.

Painting here in the
cabin, I'm isolated.

I don't have neighbors coming
in or friends stopping by.

So this is a great place for me
to paint and for Nils to write.

We are secluded and it's
so beautiful to work here.

During
the night, very often,

we see the moon
rise by our bedroom.

You sometimes don't want to
go to bed because you want

to see all that's happening
because it's all lit up

and it's like daylight but
all in black and white.

The cabin is like an excuse for
being protected while looking

at the beauty of the landscape.

Being able to be in a
cabin that is like this,

you feel extremely grateful.

I think it's very important
that the relationship reflects

the beauty of the nature in
the way we treat each other

and how we relate
with each other.

So from that point of view,
the cabin is an inspiration.
