In episode after episode,

the challenge was
often overshadowed

by a variety of
awkward, embarrassing,

and downright
humiliating moments.

Why are you peeing in the water?

It's sterile.

"it's sterile." I wash
myself with that water.

And it all happened
in front of the cameras.

Can you see yourself?

I just landed all on my
back and my ass. [ groans ]

now, for the first time, with
never-before seen moments...

Fernando: There's a
leech on my scrotum.

Guys, this is so
embarrassing. I apologize.

Narrator: ...We look back

at these cringe-inducing
highlights...

And low-lights.

Fire ants are just
biting the [bleep]

out of my butt [bleep]

first day in the wild,

the survivalists face
a moment of truth --

meeting a complete
stranger naked.

Sometimes, it's not so bad.

But often, it's excruciating.

So...

This is the most
awkward thing ever.

All I was thinking about
was, um, "keep eye contact.

Stay looking at his face."

samantha: "just look at his
eyes. Just look at his eyes.

Just look at his eyes."

"don't look at his [bleep]

don't look at his
[bleep]" you know.

But then you look at it as
soon as, you know -- [ laughs ]

so it's like you can't really
stop yourself, you know.

[ laughs ]

I was like, "all right, I'm
not gonna think about it.

"I'm not gonna focus on it.
I'm not gonna talk about it.

I'm not gonna acknowledge it."

forrest: People seemed
so uncomfortable

and weirded out by the nudity

when they first met.

I came in with the approach

that I'm just going to
make it as awkward as I can

right off the bat.

[ laughing ] okay.

I'm just kidding. How you doing?

I'm cassie. Nice to meet you.
Cassie, forrest. How are you?

[ laughs ] a little weirded out.

It's kind of crazy.

I was just like, "oh,
god. Who is this person?"

it is what it is. I don't
think it's that bad.

It's a little weird.

Forrest: I think it was
relatively well-received.

I wasn't too weirded out by it.

I don't mind being naked.

Yes, naked woman.

Yeah, this isn't weird at all.

This is awkward. I'm fernando.

I'm samantha. Nice to meet you.

It's very nice to
meet you. Yeah.

Meeting samantha out
there and she's naked,

it was -- it definitely made
for some awkward banter

for the first few minutes.

Um, so... Wow.

Yeah.

We tried to, like, somehow
establish a rapport,

but meanwhile, we're just
thinking about how naked we are.

This is a little weird for me.

Yeah.

Okay. Well...

That was definitely one of
the hardest -- hardest moments

of the whole challenge,
believe it or not.

Hey, how are you?

As I'm walking up,
obviously, every guy's thing,

whether he admits it or
not, is the size insecurity.

It's a little in the
shade and a little chilly,

so, you know, you do
get a little shrinkage.

That's cold, huh?

Yeah.

It's official. I have shrinkage.

[ chuckling ] you
have shrinkage.

I'm justin. Hi, justin.

You want a hug? Yeah.

All right. All right.

Justin, he walked
around the corner,

and the first thing
out of his mouth is...

It's cold today, huh?

Little bit chilly, yeah.

More for me than
for you, but, yeah.

[ laughs ] that's okay.

He was a little more
bashful about it than I was.

Let's see how it goes.

narrator: For some
of the survivalists,

it wasn't just meeting
a naked stranger

that proved embarrassing.

It was having to make small
talk with a naked stranger.

Hello. [ laughs ]

I'm julie. Puma.

All right.

All right.

[ both laugh ]

yeah. You ready?

Think so. Are you?

As ready as I'm
gonna be, I guess.

[ laughing ] all right.

It just felt ridiculous.
It really did.

I guess that was
the nudity factor,

was doubled up on "what the
hell are we doing out here?"

yeah. [ both laugh ]

it occurred to me

that I may have got
myself a little bit deeper

than I knew what
I was doing here.

"what the heck am
I doing out here?"

so, been to the jungle before?

First time.

I'm a bit of a mountain man.

Right on. Me too.

I mean, I'm not a mountain man.

[ laughs ]

but, I mean -- yeah.

[ laughs ]

yeah.

Um, all right. So...

When we did our
introduction naked,

I mean, I was slightly
nervous at first.

Understandably so.

You know, typical
Wednesday for me.

How about you?

Uh, yeah, this is
completely average.

Yeah. Normal day.

I see you've got the
same outfit as me.

Oh, yeah, I mean, god, I
hate it when people match.

Dang it. It took me five
hours to pick this one out, too.

Really? I guess
skin is in, right?

Yeah, I guess.

I just threw it on
in 30 seconds, so...

'course. Men.

Exactly.

I spent more time on my hair.

[ laughs ]

awesome.

All right, well, I'm ready.

I'm ready, too.
Let's kick this pig.

narrator: Another
embarrassing reality

the survivalists must get over

is having nothing to
hide in front of the crew.

Vincent: Guess
this is the real deal

and there's no turning back now.

Not that I want to.

I'm excited to get out there,
and we'll see what happens.

Man: Okay, take off your clothes
and then walk out over there.

When I was first asked
to take my clothes off,

there was some
production crew around

and some people
I hadn't met yet,

and there was some women
there who I had met already.

So my mind did go to,

"oh, yeah, I'm getting naked
in front of foreign people here."

I never really thought that
much about being naked before,

and it hit me right
when they were like,

"take your clothes off."

it was really nerve-wracking
and awkward.

Super awkward.

And I was like, "all right,
let's just get into this."

here goes nothing.

Narrator: Getting naked in
front of strangers is difficult,

but out in these
tropical locations,

it can quickly go from
difficult to very peculiar

as ky discovered after
she arrived in louisiana.

Did you grow up around here?

Okay.

No, I haven't.

I think the most
awkward part of it, for me,

was I'm sitting in this canoe

with this old guy that
was paddling me along.

Yeah?

Oh, lovely.

And then, all of a sudden, I
have to get naked in a canoe.

Now, I don't know if any
of you been in a canoe,

but it's quite tippy

and suddenly I'm trying to
take my clothes off and climb

out without legs and arms
and things splaying everywhere.

This has got to be one of the
weirdest things I've ever done.

[ laughs ]

this way?

Yeah. Straight that way.

All right.

I'll see you in 21 days.

Narrator: Once past the obstacle
of being naked for all to see,

it's time for the survivalists'
first night together.

Corinne: We're
about to go to bed,

and chris and I are gonna be
sleeping next to one another

in relatively small,
tight quarters.

Is he gonna touch me?
Please don't touch me.

So we'll see how this goes.

Here we are in
our orangutan nest.

Yeah.

It's, uh -- that's
definitely what it is.

[ chuckles ]

julie: It was cold, and we had
to huddle together to keep warm.

It was definitely a
little weird for me.

It's [bleep] freezing.

It's gonna be a long night.

We tried to stay
warm with body heat,

and tom was, like,
really weird about it.

He kept talking about,
like, he's a married man

and this, that, and the other.

Gonna get the fire going.

I was like, "it's okay, dude.

Like, believe me, I
don't want this either."

and then it just was so weird,

and then finally I was
just like, "you know what?

This isn't gonna work out."

and I just got out.

Uh...

Chris: So we're gonna
see how this pans out,

but, uh, I'm thinking it's
gonna be a little bit awkward.

Corinne: The first night together,
we ended up having to cuddle.

We were both
laying there, naked,

spooning the biggest spoon ever.

You really couldn't
do anything but laugh

because it was so
awkward and so miserable.

And, uh, hopefully I wake
up before little chris does.

Narrator: When two
strangers are brought together

to survive as a team,

one of the first sacrifices
they have to make

is their privacy.

There's always someone
there, and it can get awkward.

In india, phaedra
got sick, and hakim --

he just wanted to help.

I'm gonna stay here and
try to monitor you a little bit,

see what we have.

My partner was
sick from day one,

so really dealing with that

was probably one of the
weirdest moments I had.

As I'm hiking in my first day,

I'm stopping every 15
minutes to take a [bleep]

which was really
embarrassing, you know.

I'm not gonna lie.

I want hakim to get away.

[ chuckles ]

I really feel like
you should go head.

I don't want to stop you from
getting things accomplished.

Okay.

Duly noted.

I just want to make
sure that, as your partner,

that I stay with you.

So now, on top of that,

like, vomiting and
diarrhea and everything,

I can't even [bleep]
by myself anymore.

Phaedra, you're a
ninja. Where you at?

Behind the tree that

So you're still feeling bad?

How you feeling?

Okay, I got to go the
bathroom. Hold on.

I swear to god, I felt
so uncomfortable.

Like, I was like so embarrassed

to be, like, [bleep]
in front of my partner.

hakim: She just needed
me, and so I had --

I had a lot of responsibility
on my shoulders.

Phaedra, what's going on?

I might need to throw

narrator: Coming up, we
reveal more mortifying moments.

Why are you going in the water?

It's sterile.

I wash myself with that water.

Oh!

this look like the face that
enjoys what you just said?

I've got mud in my butt crack.

This afternoon, I got the
first signs of menstruation.

My butt [bleep]
itches really bad.

Narrator: And we've saved
some of the best for last.

There's a leech on my scrotum.

Guys, this is so
embarrassing. I apologize.

Narrator: Even under
the best of circumstances,

personal hygiene
and bathroom issues

can become very touchy subjects.

Take away all clothes, all
comforts, and all privacy,

and it can only get worse.

Tyler: Once you're out
in the jungle long enough

and hovering over
a fire and sweating,

you know, I know we stunk
like, you know, rotten pigs.

You haven't showered
in how many days?

Or, I'm sorry, used soap?

Who's the one
with the stinky pits?

You know, I could
smell her more than me.

Smell like an amazon
woman under your armpits.

My stinky underarms smell
better than that river water.

When it comes to hygiene
out there, it was awkward.

Woman: I just imagine
my friends watching this

and being like,
"that is disgusting."

you just got to
learn to live in filth.

Fernando: In the first few days,

samantha and I
are still relatively

getting to know each other,

and so we tried to kind of,
like, do more considerate things

when it came to,
like, "oh, you know..."

whatever.

You know, just we're still
getting to know each other.

But halfway through,
towards the end,

all bets were off.

Oh, boy.

See, kids, this is what happens
when you don't brush your teeth.

Jeff was all about,
like, scent marking

right out in front
of our shelter.

I don't understand why
you feel like you have to pee

right outside the
front door, though.

This is such a dude thing.

Like, no girl is gonna go along

and squat right
outside the door.

You pee, like, three feet
away from where I pee,

and it's not outside
the front door.

When I had to use the
restroom, it's not as easy.

You're a woman, and so you
kind of have to step to the side.

"no, don't follow me. I
can't just turn my back.

Hold on. I'm going into
the reeds over here."

gonna squat down for a sec.

And I made sure
that where I peed

was not in our
water that we drank.

But luke, he just
goes everywhere.

Whatever, you know. Who cares?

All right.

Got to pee, and
then I'm gonna go.

Me too.

But I'm gonna wait
until I'm by myself.

Luke goes to pee one day.

I turn around, and he's peeing

directly into the pool that
I use to wash myself daily.

Why are you going in
the water? It's sterile.

"it's sterile." I wash
myself with that water.

Okay, well, don't
do it for the next hour

and you'll be fine.

We always talked about poop.

Once I -- once I start
getting something

other than coconuts,

my poo will be better.

Yeah.

I'm about to drink something

that's gonna give
me godzilla diarrhea.

Here goes nothing.

Maybe we can compare poos.

Have you pooed yet?

Maybe.

Every night, we'd have
like a little nightly session

back in our shelter.

You don't even want to
know what my poo looked like.

Probably not.

Not while you're eating.

Probably not.

I mean, I'm getting
over a lot of things.

But, you know...

We're not quite there yet?

We have a really honest talk

about how we're
doing physically.

It's just, like --

my poo is also in
survival mode, I think.

Everything is changing.

What does that mean?

Well, I don't want to tell you
'cause it's gonna gross you out.

It was just incredibly,
incredibly awkward.

I mean, there's no
other way to put it.

My poo was honestly like,
um -- like thanksgiving gravy.

Like the gravy you'd pour over
your potatoes and your turkey.

Like diarrhea?

Yeah, but not like
your normal diarrhea.

Like -- like gravy.

Like, if I had a slab of turkey
breast and some potatoes --

shh.

That's what I'm planning
on eating on christmas.

As far as the gross list,

that about --
that about does it.

You're gonna think
of me on christmas day

as you pour the
gravy over your meal.

It was really awkward.

Jonathan?

Yeah, what's up?

Ow. [bleep]

I just walked outside of our
hut and I stepped right in poop.

And I was like,
what the heck is this?

And there's just complete
buzzing flies all over it

and I was like, "wow,
there's a dog on the --

there's no dog on this island."

and then I was like, "oh."

I'm not trying to,
like, embarrass you,

but I don't -- embarrass me?

You're not gonna embarrass
me. I want you to speak your mind.

Okay, well, I just --

I would never, ever go to
the bathroom near a shelter,

and I don't know if
that's something --

that's -- if you have
diarrhea, what can you do?

You just got to
drop trou right there.

You go to the bathroom

a certain distance
away from your fort

and a certain
depth in the ground.

You don't go poop 10
feet from your shelter

and leave it uncovered.

Vincent: And one
of the huge things is

"what are you
wiping your butt with?"

you know, that's important.

Going to the bathroom
out there was interesting.

I used leaves.

Yeah, you just got to
do what you have to do.

My butt [bleep] not very clean

'cause I don't wipe butt
with dirty, poison leaves.

I start bragging to eva, "hey,
check out these leaves I found.

These make the
best toilet paper."

and she looks at
me, and she says,

"why are you using leaves?"

[ exhales sharply ]

I'm a pebbles kind of
person, and jeff prefers leaves.

[ grunts ]

and I'm very adamant about
the fact that a smooth stone

is absolutely the best
butt-wiping squeegee

on the face of the planet.

I got a fairly smooth stone.
This is gonna be a good one.

I don't know if I've ever wiped
my butt with a rock before.

But I guess eva
and chuck norris --

they're probably the only two

that have done
something like that.

My butt [bleep]
itches really bad.

[ laughs ]

and I don't really
want to itch it

'cause it's
probably really dirty

and all I have is my fingernails

and I eat with these things.

My butt really
itched. I got to tell you.

Every time I sat down, I
was sitting down in the dirt.

You know, so there was dirt and
mud and who knows what else,

you know, crammed
in the crack of my butt.

So maybe I can find

a butt [bleep] itcher
out here somewhere.

Yeah, the butt
[bleep] scratcher.

It was -- it was a good idea.

Is that honest?
Man: That's honest.

Honest enough for you?

I told justin if, at any point,
there is mud in my butt crack

and it looks like
I've [bleep] myself,

you absolutely have to tell me.

Now, that being said, I do know

that I was covering myself
in mud to avoid the bug bites,

so tried to avoid, like,
getting it in my butt crack --

more like around my butt.

That's kind of the difference

between the off
limits and the okay.

Yeah, I need to take a bath

'cause I've got mud
in my butt crack.

[ laughs ]

can't be having that on tv, yo.

And that's really gross.

I don't know if there's mud
in my butt crack or a bug.

[ laughs ]

wow. Yeah.

Narrator: When it comes
to possible embarrassment,

the female survivors
have a very particular issue

that sometimes occurs
during the challenge.

I got my period, so
that was really fun.

My stomach doesn't
hurt all day long,

but then sometimes it will hurt,

and it's like you can't
do anything about it.

And I felt like I
got hit by a truck.

Been on my period
for four or five days --

since day six.

Five freaking days of period.

Justin: First time I met her,

she's like, "I'll be starting
my period in 10 days."

[ laughs ] so...

Well, that part bothers me.

No, it's gonna be, like --

it's seriously gonna be I
might throw something at you.

I don't know.

I'm like like, "okay."

"just letting you know
I'll get really bitchy."

I'm like, "okay."

I might start my period,
too. You never know.

Are you gonna start
your period, too?

I get kind of bitchy sometimes.

Oh, we might even end
up on the same cycle.

You know, that happens
with girls that live together.

[ both laugh ]

when it happened, I
stayed away from it.

Sometimes, during that period,

she wanted to be by
herself and great with me.

This afternoon, I got the
first signs of menstruation.

And unfortunately,

I'm at the age
that it's not normal.

It's not your regular,
normal cycle anymore.

But I got a little
bit of cramping.

Not too much.

But I can't tell whether
it's that or the diarrhea.

It's all very
charming, isn't it?

[ laughs ]

talking about [bleep]
and whatever else.

my back and my ass.

I'm all tucked into bed

and ready to hopefully
get a good night's sleep.

Narrator: Once the
survivalists have settled in

and built their shelters,

they must face certain
awkward realities

of having to sleep
next to each other.

A whole new sound was heard
in the cacophony of jungle noises.

[ snoring ]

hopefully, we have
enough fire for tonight.

Um, thinking there might
be some issues, but...

And I sat out there,
butt [bleep] naked.

And he stayed in the
shelter, stayed warm,

and was sleeping and snoring.

I could hear him
[bleep] snoring.

I'm like, "how the hell
are you snoring out here?"

[ snores ]

[ snoring ]

am I snoring?

[ laughing ] a little bit.

[ snoring ]

I'm a really,
really light sleeper.

So if anything
does come in camp,

I'll probably be the
first one to wake up.

[ snoring ]

I don't like...Sleeping next
to someone, near someone.

Yeah, laura woke
up on the wrong side

of the palm leaf
this morning, so...

[ laughs ]

don't tell her I said that.

[ snoring ]

lisa: Uh, the
snoring is pretty loud,

and it's kind of terrifying,

'cause it'll start
off very steady.

Just like a [snores]

but much, much, louder.

[ snoring loudly ]

it's natural.

We're just people. [ laughs ]

[ snoring ]

it'll shorten. [
snores unevenly ]

until all of a sudden,
it's a [snores loudly]

like a growl.

[ snoring loudly ]

[ snoring ]

I honestly was very concerned
that she would be mad at me.

[ snoring continues ]

amanda: My partner's
snoring woke me up.

Josh, shh.

[ snoring stops ]

[ snoring ]

[ snoring echoing ]

narrator: If something as
relatively normal as snoring

can prove embarrassing,

certain side effects of getting
sick during the brutal challenge

can take it to a
whole new level.

Kind of still...

[ retching ]

amanda: The first
day that josh got sick,

I'm like, "all right, you know,

he just drank the
water too fast."

he had been hiking.

[ retches ]

the second day, I was like,
"all right, what is going on now?"

[ retches ]

and then I learned about
him trying to quit smoking

going into this, which
is the hardest one to do.

And that's a very
touch vice to kick.

This hurts.

You see, I have this problem.

I'm lactose intolerant.

So when I got to nicaragua,

I tried some of
the local cheese.

I did have a few
too many last night.

I did make sure I
hydrated very well, but...

The lactose from the cheese

was not mixing well with
the acid in my stomach.

We'll see how it goes.
No hangover this morning.

I don't know what it is
about nicaraguan beer,

but I can drink my belly full.

And I developed an ulcer.

And it didn't help things.

Still feeling nauseous
this morning.

[ retching ]

[ vomiting in distance ]

well, I looks like my
partner's still not feeling good.

He just walked over to what
we have entitled "the vomit tree."

josh: I vomited and
vomited and vomited.

It was a rude awakening.

I need to sit down.

[ vomiting ]

[ vomiting continues ]

[ vomiting echoing ]

narrator: There are many
opportunities for embarrassment

in these remote locations,

and ky and billy
discovered in louisiana.

It became a battle between
survivalists and a bird.

Ky: Hello, beautiful.

Edgar was this beautiful night
heron that we had out there.

And at first, it was like having
a friend drop 'round to visit

when he came by.

When I woke up this morning,

I saw on this log
just right by me

this beautiful bird that
was catching crawfish.

It was stalking
them like a hunter,

and it would sort of
bounce forward and back

and just had this
whole routine down

for catching these crawfish.

It was a really cool
moment to watch.

Billy: We've been
seeing a lot of crawfish

down here in this slough.

But have not been
able to catch any.

It looks so damn simple.

I'll tell you, if we can get
your trap and my trap set,

that's gonna make
a big difference.

Like here?

We were initially
putting our crawfish trap

over where we saw edgar
catching a lot of crawfish,

and hopefully we'll collect
some more crawdads.

I'm gonna check the trap, billy.

Anything?

Um, no.

One, but it fell
out and got away.

Damn it!

Son of a bitch.

I guess by watching the
way edgar stalks the crawfish,

you know, it gives us an idea

that it's not the easiest thing
in the world to catch them.

How in the hell we're
gonna do this, I don't know.

Hope to god there's
no gators in here.

Are you sure you
should be in there, billy?

Do you want to tango
with him in the water?

Oh [bleep]

I think you should
leave that one, billy,

if you can't see him in there.

Where the hell did he go?

Edgar, what the [bleep] man?

Ky: How awkward.

Not only were we putting up

with anything around
us trying to eat us,

we were also not being
able to eat anything ourselves.

We see edgar the heron
catching them all over the place.

I mean, he's over
here. He's over there.

He just picks them out of
the water like they're nothing.

See, this is when I get pissed
and start breaking [bleep]

might be worth
catching and killing edgar

just for the 25 crawfish he's
managed to catch this morning

in his belly.

That's my crawfish
trap he's laughing at.

Narrator: Coming up,
more cringe-worthy moments

the survivalists would
love to take back.

See, that's meat right there.

Oh, my gosh.

You know what you'd say if
I ate the whole thing, right?

What?

I'm being shellfish.

[ laughs ] yeah, I went there.

Narrator: A bit of
embarrassment we all share

can simply be falling down.

[ yelps ]

[ grunts ]

you all right? Yeah.

Twist something? No, no, no.

I just landed harder
than I meant to.

For the survivalists,
it was worse.

They did it naked and on camera.

[ splash ]

[ groans ]

you okay? You injured?

Not injured. I'm just hurt.

For your information, I
actually felt ashamed of myself.

It took a lot out of me.

I want to be by myself.

[bleep] getting hurt.

Aah!

E.J.: Kept falling further
and further down the hill.

I thought to myself, "oh, boy."

[ clears throat ]

amanda and I were
sitting on the shelter,

and we're talking.

And then all of a sudden...

Whoa [bleep]

ow.

Crack!

I fall what felt like 14
feet down to the ground

but was probably
only like 12 inches.

You can see yourself?

I just landed all on
my back and my ass.

Bring it down towards my
ass to see if my back's okay.

Oh, yeah.

You got yourself a
little mark right there.

[ groans ]

I should probably also
warn you I'm fairly klutzy.

So at some point
-- you're gonna fall?

Yeah.

He's just a little clumsy, but
he told me that on day one.

These small ones are so stupid.

They won't go in.

Can't really get
in without sliding.

That's the problem.

[ laughs ]

I mean, he's clumsy,
but I think that --

I mean, he's not like seriously
hurt or anything like that.

Oh, going down.

Okay.

It kind of became a worry
while we were out there.

It was awkward.

I, uh, inadvertently
took a bath.

It was cold.

Really? Oh, yeah.

Did you fall? Yeah,
a couple times.

There was one day that I
was trying to get firewood,

and I was trying to minimize

the amount of
times I had to carry it.

I lost my balance and fell
onto the rocks and into the river.

[ groans ]

I don't know that it
got caught on camera.

I knew that was coming.

Narrator: One method
for relative strangers

to relieve any tension

is to tell a joke.

But it can often increase
the awkwardness.

With lisa and I, our
personalities are different.

Just, you know, she'll
make jokes that kind of, um,

you know, don't hit my
funny bone sometimes.

I think my stomach is probably
pretty disbelieving right now.

Hmm.

Like, "no, no, no, no, no.

"no. This -- this
isn't what happens.

We don't get meat."

you know, we had our
awkward minute or two,

and I just laughed
my way through it.

I do remember that she never
really got my sense of humor.

Narrator: During the
"naked and afraid" challenge,

we've certainly seen
the teams say and do

some very unusual things.

It may not have seemed
strange for the survivalists,

but looking back at
it now, it got weird.

To be honest, I'd eat
a dead body right now.

Eva: Oh, god. I would, too.

I would.

Dibs on the thigh, man.

Dude, I'd carve
into a butt cheek.

Absolutely.

It was a little weird,
but it just makes sense.

I mean, you have to
consider every angle.

Well, I mean, think of how
many resources we would have

in a single carcass.

All of those bones.

[ sighs ]

all that meat.

Honestly, I was starving so bad

that if eva had dropped dead,

I wouldn't have any
problem cutting a steak

out of, you know, one of
her calves or something.

I would have tried not to
mess up her tattoos, of course.

Eva: Just made sense.

I mean, it is a survival
situation, after all.

So, it's that time
of the day again.

We're gonna point out
the funny shapes in the cliff.

And what do we have up top here?

Some of the stranger
moments that I came across

was definitely all the things
that I was seeing in the cliffs.

I see a dog's head.

Here's his nose.

It goes up.

Here's his ear.

Can you see that?

Looking back, it was
actually a little awkward.

We saw george washington.

He's up there.

Hey, george.

I just found either rastafarian,
maybe, santa claus,

or just a grumpy -- you see him?

It's santa-claus face!

He's grumpy.

That was cute.

I haven't seen anything else,

but I'll get back
to you if I do.

Narrator: Being in
extreme, stressful conditions

has put some of the survivalists

in the very awkward
position of stretching the truth

with their partners.

Case in point, in brazil,

honora had a little
secret involving a coconut.

Successful breakfast
foraging mission.

The one time I was
dishonest with matt,

he had disappeared --

gone on this, like,
huge, epic walk --

and I wanted to use his kukri

to open a coconut
that I had found.

My goal is to open this
as quickly as possible,

return the knife,
and eat the coconut.

I was like, "my body
really, really needs

these electrolytes."

[ slurping ]

I ate that whole
coconut by myself.

Okay, got to get
rid of the evidence.

I never told him
about that coconut.

Oh, that's nice.

Matt: Oh, hey, honora,

you can use the machete
whenever you want.

Narrator: Coming up,

we've saved some of the
best awkward moments for last.

'cause right now, they're
eating my vajayjay alive.

No.

There is one thing
that russell did.

He said, "I wake
up with boners."

I mean, man, you can't
really beat this thing.

Narrator: When two strangers
have had some harsh words

for each other,

the most awkward
moments can occur

when nothing is happening.

Honora: Well, it
was really interesting

when matt and I
got in an argument.

A lot of our time out there

was spent, like, not
talking to each other.

it's kind of like that quote --

like, "happiness is
only real when shared."

I definitely realized
after a certain point

that he still was, like,

the only other person
there that I could talk to.

[ burps ]

that was a good
one, right there.

[ insects buzzing ]

oh, my god.

Narrator: There are
things that happen

during the "naked
and afraid" challenge

that perfectly
embody awkwardness.

Oh [bleep]

for example, creatures
getting into places

you really do not
want them to go.

[ sighs ]

lisa: I'm about to say something

I never thought I would
say in my entire life.

But I'm pretty
sure I have fleas.

I have head lice. Yay.

I had contracted head lice.

[ sighs ]

and, I ended up, like,
shaving all by pubic hairs off.

Shh. Don't tell my partner.

Whoa, you're covered in leeches.

Yep.

Samantha: The most
unpleasant experience

was actually getting a couple
of leeches on my vaginal area.

Oh, that's awesome.

Phaedra: [bleep]

there's one on
my ass right there.

Phaedra: I would find a
leach on me every single day.

It was kind of embarrassing,
to be honest with you.

You know, the camera guys
aren't supposed to talk to you,

but he's like, "uh, uh, um..."

it's like, big, huh?

Yeah, it's big.

The first leach I
found in my crotch,

like, that was pretty gross.

Fernando: There's a
leech on my scrotum.

That would happen,

unfortunately,
kind of frequently.

Guys, this is so
embarrassing. I apologize.

Tick situation was
very, very, bad.

I still want tweezers
and a mirror

because I don't want you
taking them out of my butt [bleep]

[ laughs ]

these fire ants are
just bitting the [bleep]

out of my butt [bleep]

[ groans ]

they're everywhere.

Literally everywhere.

[ groans ]

tick free? No.

There's too many.

But the ones trying
to get in my pee hole --

I got those. God.

There's a mosquito
eating my hootie-hoo.

The mosquitos, they
love warm places.

My vajayjay.

That's where they go to,

and that's the only
place they really want.

'cause right now, they're
eating my vajayjay alive.

No.

Narrator: Men can sometimes
awake to something a little extra,

and the women of
"naked and afraid"

had no choice but to suffer
through this phenomenon.

When a man and a woman is
put somewhere together naked,

things are gonna come up.

[ sighs ]

ooh, the wife's right
here in the room.

This is a good topic -- a
good, juicy conversation.

There is one thing
that russell did.

He says, "I'm gonna
apologize up front.

I wake up with boners."

and I went like,
"whatever. Okay.

That's -- well, thanks
for letting me know."

I mean, man, you can't
really beat this thing.

Is morning wood an issue?

Well, usually I was up before
anyone was gonna get up anyhow.

And I'd just go off
and take care of it

before it becomes
an issue for anyone.

vincent: You know, men
will be men in the morning,

and you're gonna have
some hydraulics going

if you have to urinate.

And I had that happen a few
times, and to me, it was no --

well, maybe it was a big deal,

but it was "no big deal"
metaphorically speaking, anyway.

Alana: You know, the
morning occurrences

was something that I
was concerned about.

I thought I was
gonna be waking up

to more than
firewood next to me.

But I was trying not to look
down as much as I could.

As far as I know, cass never
woke up with morning wood.

Cass: Yes, it possibly
might have happened.

[ laughs ]

shannon: Oh, did he? [ laughs ]

well, I certainly didn't
notice it if he did.

Cass: My wife's
gonna flip out. Edit that.

Don't put that in there.

[ laughs ]

narrator: The
once-in-a-lifetime experience

that is "naked and
afraid's" 21-day adventure

certainly does have its
intensely awkward moments,

but the challengers
survived that as well.

You know, typical
Wednesday for me.

Amanda: It's just an
awkward thing to do.

It's not normal.

I was trying not to think
about it or focus on it.

I was like, "all right,
here's my partner.

Now what are we gonna do next?"

corinne: I like to do things
that challenge myself,

so I'll be able to
reflect on it, you know,

other times in my
future that are difficult.

And I'll say, "well, you
know, I did this before,

so I can definitely
handle that," you know.

Lindsey: I think being
on "naked and afraid,"

I am stronger than
I thought I was.

I'm a better person
than I thought I was.

Whoo!

Fernando: I came
back from this challenge

just a different person,

and I think a better person.

I feel like I'm a
better father now,

a better husband,
a better friend.
