expecting Professor Samuelson,

and unfortunately has a
stubborn case of mononucleosis.

So this class didn't
need to be delayed,

I volunteered to fill in for
him until he's on the mend.

Some of you have taken
my undergraduate classes.

For those of you who haven't,

I'm Professor Daniel Hudson.

Since you're all graduate
students, Daniel will be fine.

Plus it makes me feel younger.

[students laugh]

Now, fortunately for you,
advanced creative writing

is one of my favorite
classes to teach.

I'm a big believer that
there's only one way

to get better at writing.

Novel concept, but
you would be surprised

at how many people think that,

unlike other disciplines,
where practice makes perfect,

creative writing is somehow
immune to that philosophy.

let me first remind
you of a small
soiree

my wife and I are hosting
at our home this weekend.

I know this may seem
a tad unconventional,

but this is something that we do

every year for my
graduate students.

It helps me to get to
know each one of you

in a more intimate setting.
