[Tunisia Offray] Hollywood
romances are usually like
fairy tales, right?

It's all about the aesthetic,
what a person looks like.

Who they are, who they know.

It's almost like
a Cinderella story.

You meet your
Prince Charming...

...and we don't pay attention
to other people
that may harm them.

[Ro] I think that
she probably knew that
he was dangerous to a point,

but she didn't think he'd
go that far over the edge.

[Maricela] It's the
Hollywood dream...

...turned into a nightmare.

[Robert] She was actually
obsessed with famous
Hollywood murders,

and now she had become
a famous Hollywood murder.

Amie Harwick was adopted
when she was a baby.

Her adopted parents
gave her free reign.

They let her be who
she wanted to be
and she was.

She was Amie
through and through,
one hundred percent.

In the small town
like Lansdale, Pennsylvania,
she was unique.

She was into heavy metal,
she wore dark make-up,
dark clothes.

And so, we've had
conversations about
her coming to L.A.

because of feeling like she
needed to get out of there
to expand and grow.

[Azari] As a criminal defense
attorney in Los Angeles

with nearly 20 years
practicing in
the criminal justice system

as a trial lawyer,
I was fascinated by this case.

I was also very fascinated
by Harwick.

Amie was a sort of colorful,
vibrant young woman,

dressed to the nine,
and she was very much

involved in that L.A. scene,
the Hollywood scene.

She would be seen
at Hollywood parties.

[Robert] First time I met
Amie Harwick
was at a pool party.

I thought, "Wow, this woman
is absolutely gorgeous."

It was, like, midnight,
and I walked into the kitchen,

and she was standing in there
in high heels and bikini.

And, uh, she said, "Oh,
I'm just stopping by,
I'm on my way to work."

And I said, "What?
Where do you work?"

And, "You're not here
for the pool party?"

And she said, "Oh,
I'm a go-go dancer."

Most of the people
that you meet in LA

wanna be actors,
and, uh, that was not
the case with Amie.

She was go-go dancing
as a side job.

She was in school to become
a family therapist
at the time.

[Maricela] She was
non-stop working.

She's a hustler.

You look up "hustla,"
you know, "hustler,"
in the dictionary,

and there's Amie, "Hey!"

When she first got out here,
she was in a lot of videos.

[Robert] She was doing a lot
of professional modeling
for clothing companies...

...uh, shoe companies...

...catalogue modeling...

...fire performing.

[Maricela] The Playboy Mansion
would hire her a lot
for fire eating.

I'd stand next to her
with all the fire safety,
put out her torches,

um, watch her singe
her eyebrows here and there.

Just singe her hair off.

[Robert] All the way
through her doctorate,
paid for everything, cash.

Amie had a Masters
in clinical psychology

which she got from Pepperdine,
and then she got a PhD.

[woman] Dr. Amie Harwick.

-Very much
a renaissance woman.
-Right.

Got my graduate degree,
I'm gonna go for my PhD later.

I'm gonna do everything
I wanna do and...

Dr. Amie Harwick's
relationship history

was very much ironic
considering that she
was a marriage therapist.

She had relationships with men
that, some were high profile.

[Maricela] Crispin Glover.

Marilyn Manson.

Dave Navarro.

But she also had relationships
that were deeply troubled.

And it's something that
she never really shared

completely openly
with her close friends.

[Rudy] Gareth
is a photographer,

and a self-taught
coding wizard, I guess.

He's a computer guy.

I am also a photographer
by trade,

and we were actually friends,

I met him about the same time
that I met Amie.

We used to have some
of the same clients.

Gareth ran
the photography team.

Amie was one of
the model girls.

[Maricela] Gareth wanted
to be a comedian.

He just had
this horrible sense of humor,

and after I saw that, like
he did a stand-up thing...

...I understood, like,
he was always trying
to be that funny,

and it just never
came across funny.

Um...

And Amie, who was
very outgoing,

had a lot of friends,
and a lot of male friends.

He was very, like,
suspicious of them all.

[Maricela] If there
was a guy around,

all of the sudden,
he'd just grab her
and start making out with her,

like, tongue kissing,
and she'd be, like,
trying to pull away.

And he's like, just...
because he wanted to make sure
everybody knew, "She's mine."

"Hello, I'm marking
my territory."

And it was just creepy.

They only dated for
maybe a couple years.

And they lived together.

When they broke up,
he used to ask me to, like,
send her messages,

or send her links to, uh,
sappy songs.

And I'd be like,
like, "No, dude,
you gotta let it go,

like, you gotta
move on, and..."

He just wouldn't
take no for an answer.

She eventually got
a restraining order
against him.

[Offray] My years of being
in this industry,

I would say, 20 years,
working with
domestic violence victims,

and also perpetrators,
and I also have
lived experience.

When Amie finally said,
you know, "I had enough,"

she realized that
there was no fixing this.

I think she believed that
that would be the end
of the relationship.

But that only began
his obsession for her.

2012, she had applied
to work in a prison,

but what happened
during that process

was a guy sent nude photos
to the prison of Amie

that she had shot for Playboy
some years prior,

and basically got her
to lose that job.

She was extremely
upset about it.

[Maricela] She thought
her career was over
at that point,

and we discussed, like,
what she can do,

because she was going
through a real tremendous
depression after that,

because she just went through
all these years of schooling.

I don't know how
I jokingly suggested,

"Well, maybe you can
get into sex therapy now."

And she took that
and ran with it.

There are a lot of women
that do some type of sex work

that later on have problems
with their careers

and it made her want
to help those people.

So, she decided to actually
get her next degree
in human sexuality,

and it was this attempt
to sabotage her career

that she used to build
a much bigger career.

and, uh, I shot
all the pictures,
and Amie wrote it.

In most parts of this country,
if you set up a practice
as a sex therapist,

you may not have any business.

But for Amie,
being in Los Angeles
and working in Hollywood,

she had a great base in L.A.

[Robert] She played herself
as a therapist giving therapy
to her client on TV shows.

Amie was on
Addicted to Sexting.

She was often quoted
in magazines.

She was pretty
well established
as a therapist

and had the ear of
a lot of different people,

uh, a lot of different media.

It was a bit challenging
for Amie to be a sex therapist

and be as beautiful
as she was.

I know that she did had
some problems with
some obsessive clientele

that were probably
mainly there to see Amie

'cause she was gorgeous,
and not Amie the therapist,

who can really help them
with their issues.

During the time that Amie
was dating Marilyn Manson,

it was her birthday...

[cheering]

[Robert] ...and she said,
"Marilyn Manson is supposed
to take me to dinner

at, like, 6 o'clock."
And I said,

"That's not gonna happen.
I don't think he gets
out of bed before 6 o'clock."

She said, "Well,
I did tell him that
if he did not meet me

on my birthday, that I'm
gonna go to a party,

and I'm gonna have
a great time without him."

And, uh, at that party,
she met Drew.

She said, "Oh, yeah,
my boyfriend, you know,
stood me up."

And he said,
"Oh, you know, you should

hang out with people that
aren't gonna stand you up
on your birthday.

So, how about we, uh,
we go out next week?
I'll take you to Disneyland."

She said she laughed so hard,
and she just had such
a great time.

Two weeks later, Drew took
ten of us to Disneyland

and that's when I met
him for the first time.

And we were walking
through the park,

and he said to me,
"I'm gonna marry her."

She moved in with him
not long after
they were together.

Eventually, he proposed
to her in Paris.

And that began the engagement.

Well, let me give you some
back story that's unknown.

So, when Amie and Drew
were engaged,

they were... kinda keeping
it on the DL for a bit.

But what was happening
was Amie was being
sort of cyber-stalked

by a girl who had been
a former friend.

This person was posting things
about her that were not true
on various websites.

The National Enquirer
came and said,

"Hey, we're gonna
run some stories
about your relationship."

And it had a lot of untruths.

And Amie just didn't want
any more negative information,

that wasn't even true,
to come out.

So, they agreed to give
an exclusive scoop
to the National Enquirer,

under duress, I will say,
that they were engaged.

And so after that,
they decided to then come out
on The Price is Right

on Valentine's Day and talk
about the engagement.

I'd like to introduce you
to my brand-new,
lovely fiance, Amie.

How you doing, Amie?

Dating in the spotlight
brings you access.

Access to the best parties.

Being the VIP, right?

The downsides
are the constant attention.

It's all eyes on you,
all the time.

Especially when you
have people wanting
to cause you harm.

Amie had already had a lot
of trials and tribulations
prior to the Drew thing.

And so Amie was terrified.

Like, she was scared.

[Robert] She had some people
that were really,
had it out for her.

[Offray] I think their romance
was very, um, fairy tale-like,

very innocent and child-like,

but it appears to me
that it became real
once the world knew,

because now you have the world
giving their opinions.

Drew Carey being 59
and Amie Harwick being 36
is definitely an age gap.

[Robert] There's a lot
of people who are jerks

and just post kinda
nasty comments and stuff,

and they affected her.

[interviewer]

[Robert] "You're
just a gold digger."

She suspected it was people
who were stalking her...

...that would post
very detailed
and weird things online.

[fan 1] Drew!

-[fan 2] Drew!
-[fan 3] Drew!

-[fan 2] Stop for your fans!
-[fan 3] Can we get a picture?

[fan 2] Will you stop
for your fans?

[Robert] When she would
go places with Drew,

a lot of times the attention
or focus would be on Drew.

-[woman] So, you're engaged
to Drew Carey?
-Yes, yeah.

And, um, everybody
knows him as
a pretty well-known celebrity.

-Mmm-hmm.
-So, when people
see you with him,

they just assume that you're
just, like, a pretty face.

So, I brought Drew
to this event.

And when we got there,
of course people thought

he was there, he must
be the presenter.

They asked me to step aside,
and I'm like,

"No, I'm the one invited."

And he's like,
"She actually invited me.

She's my PhD-holding,
therapist partner,

and I'm just here with her,
supporting her."

-Yeah.
-And that was really
great to hear, hear that.

Like, letting people know
that that's not the case.

-[woman] Right, right.
-And being supported.

Um, and somebody that's
proud of what I do.

-[woman] Yeah.
-It's great.

Drew said that,
"Right now, I wish that
I was not a celebrity

because I don't want Amie
to be known as the person

that was in a relationship
with Drew Carey."

[Maricela] They could have
had a simpler life.

But now she was being
judged for no reason

but because
e she was dating him.

It not only affected her,
but it affected
the relationship.

[Amie] When people meet us,
they think, "Oh, you know,

uh, she looks attractive,
or she's so much younger,

-she must be this,
this, and this."
-[woman] Right, right.

This assumption, um,
especially if you're dating

-somebody older or somebody
that's well-known.
-[woman] Yeah.

-So...
-[woman] It's gotta
be kinda frustrating.

It's definitely frustrating,
just people online saying,

"Oh, I bet she's
a gold digger,"

"I bet she's, you know,
wanting him for this."

I'm like, "No, actually
I have my own business
and I have a degree."

[Offray] I believe it did
become rough for a while.

There was a lot
of disagreements

with the way that
the relationship was going.

And I do feel like
foundation to that really
was Amie feeling uncomfortable

with the type of attention
she was receiving.

[Azari] In October of 2018,
the police were called

to the home that Drew Carey
shared with Amie Harwick.

She reported that there were
trespassers on the property.

Amie was living at the house
by herself at the time

and was a little panicked
about it.

She was saying that
she was scared and, you know,
she didn't know what to do.

She thought that they had
some creepy stalkers around.

But it still affected her
and I think that
might have been

one of the main reasons
her and Drew broke up.

A month later, she ended
the engagement with him.

[Robert] When they called off
the engagement,

I wasn't super
shocked about it.

People have different
interests in life.

And sometimes you're just
not on the same path
and that's how it was.

She reached out to Drew.
I know that she wanted
to discuss forgiveness,

because he was
a very big part of her life.

And she didn't want it
to just end with them
never talking again.

It's 2020, Valentine's Day
is coming up,

and Amie texts Drew Carey.

And she says that
she would love to see him.

[Robert] She missed him.

I know that she was
always talking about
how much she loved him

and how she wanted
to re-establish contact
with him and...

Then I heard from him
that he felt the same way.

[Offray] February 14,
Amie and her friends decide

they're gonna have
a girls' Valentine's Day.

Everybody's single.

We're gonna celebrate
the day of love together.

[Robert] The next morning,
the 15th,

I had a few texts
from her roommate

and he didn't give me
a lot of info.

He just said, "Hey,
Amie was assaulted...

...please come down
to the Hollywood
Police Station."

I woke up and, uh,
I had a missed call
from Robert.

And so, I called Robert back,

and he had told me that, um,
Amie had an accident.

[Robert] I went to
the Police Station.

The police asked me
to come into a room,
started asking me questions.

They told me right away
that she had been
attacked in her home.

And they ask me
the general things
they ask anyone,

like, "Where were you
at that time?"

You know, "When was
the last time
you talked to her?"

And then someone came in
and told them something,

and then they said,
"Well, I'm really sorry
to, to inform you,

but your friend has,
has passed away."

And I spent that day
calling everyone,
including Drew.

It was tough.
I made a lot of phone calls

telling people that
their closest friend was dead.

I pretty much just, I didn't
have any words at all.

In my head, I was thinking,
like, "Are you sure?"

This is our last
photo together.

And Amie's gone.

And, you know,
I guess I feel alone.

I feel lonely.

[Robert] She was an amazing,
friendly, outgoing,

uh, person that could, like,
meet and talk to anybody.

And then she was also
a super weirdo.

At the same time,
being the same excited,

ebullient, gracious person
that she always was.

She could talk to
your grandmother
and have a great time,

and she could talk to
a bunch of biker dudes
on the corner,

and, like,
they'd all love her.

[Ro] I met Amie when
she was just a teenager
in Philadelphia.

It was kinda cool
to see, you know,
a fellow East Coaster

out on, on the West Coast,
sort of, kind of
making her way up.

And then to think about
all the things

that she accomplished
while she was here,

there's a pretty hardcore
sadness that's there.

You know, 'cause you knew
that she was still burning
really brightly.

And there was still so much
for her to accomplish.

[Carrillo] Directly above
where Dr. Harwick was found
was a balcony,

which measured in
and of itself about,

approximately 20 feet
off the ground.

So, she fell 20 feet
to the ground,

and there she's laying,
having sustained
brutal injuries,

especially to her head.

Other wounds to her hands.

One would look at them
initially and say,

"Defense wounds."

She was transported
to the hospital
and later pronounced dead.

L.A.P.D. investigators
saw beads, that trickled

through from the bedroom
all the way to the balcony
of the home,

that look like they're,
they came from a necklace.

Although she wasn't
injected with it,

there was enough
nicotine in there

to be death causing.

It seems as though
there was struggle

between her and the assailant,

and there was no
opportunity to inject her.

[Carrillo] Then they
find broken glass.

They found the French
door shutters that lead
out to the balcony

had been broken.

They found blood on there.

So there was,
very definitively,

an assault that occurred
inside the house.

[Sara Azari] According
to the autopsy performed
on Amie Harwick,

her manner of death was both

strangulation and injuries
from a fall.

It wasn't just that she
fell from the balcony...

...it's that she had
struggled, she had
been strangled...

...and then she fell
from the balcony.

There was evidence
of petechiae hemorrhaging,

which normally comes
in the eyes.

She did have severe
enough injury to her neck

where there were bones
broken, one in particular
in the hyoid.

...which would be death
causing in and of itself.

When there are signs
of strangulation,

you immediately know that
the person, the assailant,

was known to the victim.

That there was a passion

that went into the crime.

Who would have
that much animosity

to, to do something like that.

Conducting a homicide
investigation is,

I analogize it
to getting a pebble

and throwing it
into a pond of water.

And you start
with the closest ripple,

and work your way out.

[Azari] Now that you
have a homicide,

and it seems to be
by a known party,

the attention immediately
goes to the boyfriend,

the ex-boyfriend.

I imagine that the police

would have wanted
to speak to Drew Carey.

After all, there was
a text message

between Drew and Amie

in the days leading
up to Valentine's Day,

and they were
supposed to meet.

[Robert Coshland]
Amie loved things macabre,
uh, funeral rights.

I don't have any, like,
road taxidermy pieces,

but I am buying
from a friend, um,

a goat that stands upright.

It's, uh, like,
an art taxidermy piece.

-[interview] Oh, wow!
-[Amie Harwick] So,
I'm getting that.

'Cause the problem is now,
I live with my partner,
I live with my fiance,

and that's not his natural
thing that he likes.

He likes pop art
and eccentric things,

and then I like very macabre,

so, I'm always, like, taking
him to cemeteries and stuff...

-Uh-huh.
-...which, like,
he actually does enjoy.

[Maricela Mendoza] Amie liked
a lot of morbid things.

Like, the dark side.

Like Black Dahlia,
Sharon Tate.

Amie was obsessed with famous
Hollywood murders,

and now she had become
a famous Hollywood murder.

One of the things that
happens in a homicide

is that the defense will
look to blame the police.

And so, the police would have
had to consider Drew Carey.

At least make an attempt
to, you know,

ask him a few questions,
and be able to clear him.

Drew Carey was cleared.

He was not a suspect.

[Coshland] When I was
in the police station

and they asked me
who I thought did it,

I said, "Gareth" right away.

So, I don't really know
much about Gareth.

She rarely talked about
him other than he had
harassed her.

She talked about how
she was afraid of him.

So, they said, "Okay,
who's this Gareth person?"

I looked at the Dr. Harwick,

and the restraining orders

that she had against
Mr. Gareth Pursehouse.

Then you find out
about Mr. Pursehouse,

who she has a long
history of problems with.

When seeking
the restraining order,

she made note
of things that happened.

[tires screeching]

[Carrillo]
One time, he pushed her
out of a car on the freeway,

and left her
on the freeway stranded.

[Mendoza] They would
get in the car, and she
would ask to get out...

...and he wouldn't
let her out.

And they would fight.

So, it would always be that,
"Let me out of the car,
let me out of the car."

Because they would
be fighting in the car.

Like, he would bash her
head against the car seat...

...and push her out.

So, then she'd be stranded.

I'm almost afraid to talk
about Gareth Pursehouse.

Um, I really am.

The history of Gareth, if we
wanna get to understanding

who this person is, is...

...he's a very
vindictive person

who was very
good at computers.

[Coshland] This is,
like, years ago.

Amie had gone
on a trip to China

to teach a sex class,
and when she got back,

she called me and she said,

"I think Gareth broke into my
house while I was gone."

It was her apartment
in Sherman Oaks.

And I was like,
"Well, how do you know?"

And she's like, "Well,
all of my photo albums
are missing...

...and I think some pictures
are turned upside down,

and my computer,
like, doesn't work."

I drove over to her place,

and I was like, "Well,
let me see the computer."

So, I opened it up,

and after a few seconds,

I determined it didn't even
have an operating system,

like, it had been
completely wiped.

It's a real Dr. Jekyll
and Mr. Hyde type
of situation.

After, you know,
trashing her place,

he shows up then, like,
the next day,

and is playing, like,
a love song outside,

and is professing
his love for her.

But then, would turn
around and do things

to let her know that he had
access to her whenever
he wanted.

[Coshland] She talked about
how she was afraid of him.

She would say,
"He's a computer genius,

and he might, you know,
be monitoring my phones"
and so forth.

[Rudy Torres] She's always
been scared of him.

She always mentioned that
she feared for her safety.

She always been guarded.

She still wondered whether
he has access to her account.

'Cause there was just a lot
of stuff that he would do

in the background
to sabotage her.

[interviewer] I was
gonna ask you if you
had problems come up

because of the proliferation
of social media.

Somebody can just go to your
page and harass you everyday.

-Right.
-Say things that aren't true.

And there's, really,
it's very, very difficult
to make that stop.

It's anonymous, and also
just online, it's not taken
as seriously.

-Right.
-Receiving that level
of harassment

will wear you down over time.

[Mendoza] Gareth wanted
to be a comedian...

[audience laughing]

...and then Amie goes
and dates Drew Carey
who's also a comedian.

I'm sure that
really hit him...

...really hard...

...and it even
drove him crazier.

By virtue
of the restraining order,

their relationship
had dissolved...

...and, in fact,
she hadn't seen him...

but then as you reach
out to other friends,

you find out about
Mr. Pursehouse,

the month prior to the murder,

had run into her in January,

uh, where he was very upset.

[Azari] There was
an event in Los Angeles,

it was called the XBIZ Awards,

and Amie was invited...

[paparazzi] ...The fantastic
Amie Harwick.

...and she was on the red
carpet getting her photos
taken

when her friend stepped aside
for a minute to get drinks.

And, as soon as that happened,

she sees Gareth Pursehouse
coming onto the red carpet

and approaching her.

He seemed to be
photographing the event.

That was a side gig of his.

She said it was very strange

'cause she hadn't heard
from Gareth in ten years.

And that's when she saw him,

and he started screaming
at her and yelling.

Reciting texts that
she had sent him

from, like,
years and years ago.

[Carrillo]
And in his fit of anger,

he said, "You ruined
my life, bitch."

Amie tried to get Gareth
to come off to a corner,

and he was just
crying like a child.

And he falls to the ground,
and goes into fetal position,

and, I mean, everyone's
just staring over.

It's a bizarre scene, right?
For an adult man.

I can't even imagine
how I would handle this.

Amie went straight
into her therapist mode,

and she thought by being
able to reason with him...

...that that would somehow
make him calm down...

...and they can continue
on with the evening...

...without any more incidents.

But that just wasn't
the case in this scenario.

[Azari] And, in fact,
she was so scared,

that when they
left that event,

she didn't want to go
to the afterparty as planned.

And she was petrified.

She was terrified.

He had told her that he
thinks about her all the time.

That he still believes
that they are a couple,

and therefore is jealous
when there's other men
paying attention to her.

[Coshland] So, she called
me and she said

she was afraid Gareth was
monitoring her phone,

and explained she was
really freaked out, she was...

I asked her, "Should we get
another restraining order?"

And she said, "Well, he didn't
actually threaten me,

so, I don't think there's
anything I can do,"

and that's when she started
sharing her phone location
with me.

Then that's also
when she told me,

"If anything happens
to me, it was him."

[Azari] Amie Harwick may have
reached out to Drew Carey

on February 13th,
just before Valentine's Day.

Maybe she wanted
to talk to Drew Carey

about what had happened
at the XBIZ event.

Maybe she felt close enough
to him to confide in him.

It's unclear,

but I don't find it
at all coincidental

that Amie Harwick was murdered

in the early morning
hours of February 15th

after Valentine's Day.

It is a day that is
really significant

for those who are
obsessed and abusive.

Abusers often pick
Valentine's Day

as the day when they
unleash that obsession.

[Tunisia Offray]
It's the perfect day
for a person

who has psychopathic behavior.

Like, it's in alignment
with that thought process.

He wanted the world to know

that, on this national
day of love,

"If I can't have you,
no one else can."

So, when you have a struggle,

when you have Mr. Pursehouse

and his threats prior
to the restraining order,

then coupled with his
actions on January,

the month prior...

...then you can start looking
at Mr. Pursehouse a little
closer.

Certainly there was enough
evidence to obtain a search
warrant

to go look at
Mr. Pursehouse's residence.

During the execution
of a search warrant

of Mr. Pursehouse's residence,

they were able to locate
and retrieve syringes.

The same type
of make and content

as the syringe that was
found inside the residence
of Dr. Harwick.

[Coshland] We had all
postulated that maybe
he would try and fake

that she killed herself
in a drug overdose
or something.

You don't have a syringe
full of nicotine

for any reason other
than to kill somebody.

[Carrillo] His initial
thing was that he had
been home on the 14th,

but he was bloody,
he had sustained injuries.

We found bloody clothing.

So, they arrested him
without incident.

They just handcuffed him
and took him away.

This being a murder case,
it was a $2 million-bail.

What that means is
the individual trying
to post bond

has to pay 10% of that
to be able to get released.

On microscopic examination
of the fingernail scrapings

taken from the deceased
in this case,

the lab proved DNA

belonging to Mr. Pursehouse

was located underneath
her fingernail.

DNA is bulletproof.

The case against him is
very much ironclad.

You have somebody waiting
in the home for four hours,

you have a syringe filled
with poison at the scene,

that goes to premeditation.

[Coshland] He was
held for a while...

...and then a local news
channel reporter called me,

and said, "Hey, did you
know Gareth is out?"

[Mendoza] I was very scared.

Somebody texted me and said,

"Just be careful
because he had jumped bail."

The conversations that
Amie had had with me
about Gareth...

...talking about me,
and he knew where I lived.

I was scared that
he was gonna come.

[whimpering]

After Gareth Pursehouse bonded
out on that $2 million bond,

you know, the bond had
certain terms and conditions,

and he was not to be
anywhere near borders
and airports, etc.

issue of contention here is

was it first degree murder
or was it second degree
murder?

For first degree murder,

the prosecution needs to show
beyond a reasonable doubt

that Gareth Pursehouse
premeditated and planned

the killing of Amie Harwick.

pleaded not guilty.

The fact is that he's
gonna try to prove

that his delusional
reasons made sense,

and they don't.

to plead not guilty,

to me, is a slap in the face.

He just wants a trial
to further humiliate Amie...

Because, to me, there's no
way that he's not guilty.

The day of the funeral,
I flew out early to Lansdale

to do her hair and makeup.

If we had not seen her,

I would have not have
really known the depth
of what he had done

because I got to see
the fingerprints.

Unfortunately, the cemetery
she's buried at,

they don't allow headstones...

...and she wanted
an elaborate headstone.

So, last year, I started
this kind of project.

I wanna raise money
to actually build a bronze
statue of Amie

that's also a tribute to her,
but a tribute to...

...victims of domestic
violence.

I want a place for her
friends here to go...

...and I want something
that will last...

...for a very, very long time

because I want people
to know about her.

She would want people
to remember her as
a real person...

and her life was cut short

by an obsessed abuser,

and not everyone that
commits domestic violence

is necessarily the profile
of Gareth Pursehouse...

...but he's of the worst kind
you can possibly imagine.

Possibly, the system
failed her.

There's all kind of things
that go through my mind

in how this could
have stopped.

But it's tragic.

It is no way
for somebody to die.

There's a lot in Hollywood
that the world doesn't see.
