[John] You know, discarding me
Hannibal's Police Department

are no longer looking
for Christina.

She had a huge argument
with her mom

just before she went missing

and that Christina left

and that her mother knows
that she left.

[man] The reason why
she doesn't come back here

is because of the secrets
that are here.

[Rachel] This girl
don't wanna be found.

Her mother made this happen.

[man] There are a lot
of reasons why this case

isn't being solved.

If Christina's case is solved
it's gonna open up

a lot of knowledge of what's
happening here in Hannibal.

[John] I've been told that the
Hannibal Police Department

is pretty, uh, shady.

You know, if they wanted
you to be arrested

they don't have
a problem with planting

some evidence or do
something else like that.

[Fontana] Do you think
it's safe?

[Ben] I don't know.
It's a dead tunnel.

[narrator] Hannibal,
Missouri is known

as America's hometown.

Nestled right
on the Mississippi river,

north of Saint Louis,

Hannibal has so many things
to do and see,

your group will need a couple
of days to take it all in.

friendly folks,

You'll see why Hannibal,
Missouri

is known as America's hometown.

[Ron] I grew up in Hannibal,
Missouri.

Hannibal is kind
of the town you return on

in a lot of ways.

It's an isolated,
little river town

of great little nooks
and crannies

where children
can have a good time.

There was an order
to this little universe.

You did things for people,
you cut the neighbor's grass.

My father knew everyone in
town, and everyone knew him.

It was a heavenly place
for a lot of people.

But the Hannibal that I remember

will never exist again.

[barking]

Missouri has a legacy
of violence, rural violence,

inter-family murders, feuds,

gang presence, a drug problem.

Like America itself,
Missouri and Hannibal

are not necessarily robust
agricultural centers anymore.

It's a corporate enterprise,
not a family enterprise.

A Walmart appeared
on the opposite end of town

from the Mississippi river

and greened the little hives
of the storefronts

on main street,

and those businesses suffered.

The economic strain
led to the loss of hope,

the loss of pride,

the loss of identification
as a productive human being,

that can lead
to horrible life decisions

that you never would've think
you would've made.

There is a night fear.

People won't really be out
on the streets at night,

and certainly downtown.

There has been mob
presence in Hannibal.

They're strongly
connected to drug sales,

drug trafficking.
All those barns,

all that fertilizer won't mix,

and they use to make enough.

I mean, it's a classic
drug to be manufactured

out of the world
in farming tools.

I feel that Hannibal
is a paradise lost

and I don't know how to
regain that paradise.

I guess I should feel grateful
that I experienced it

when I did.

[Cindy] What are you
doing Christina

on mother's day this day?

Watching TV, relaxing,
I don't gotta work today!

[Cindy] What are you
doing in here, Brian?

[Christina] I'm guessing
Brian set me.

You gave me another glass
saying Daddy's proud of me

because I can go
out Friday night

and I didn't drink or anything,

I just went home and sleep I
did the same thing last night.

[Fontana] Was Christina
a regular at Rookies?

[Vicki] She was at one time.

She was a regular, and then
we started having problems

with her and she got kicked
out way before this incident.

[Fontana] Can you tell me, um,
some of the prior incidents

that got her banned?

[Vicki] Starting fights,

getting drunk
and being belligerent.

I know for a fact she did coke.

She's done it in our bathroom

and I'm gonna say
probably some meth.

I've seen her a couple of times

where she's actually
been tweaking.

When we ban somebody
we usually leave them

banned out there
for a couple of years.

That night we were having a
big Thanksgiving holiday bash

and she come in,

we're like,
"Okay, we'll let her in."

You know, "It's the holidays,
we'll see what happens."

[Fontana] Is there anything
that kind of stuck out to you

that people were saying, what
happened during that night?

[Vicki] Everybody in this
town has their own opinion.

Especially on this story
and there's some of the people

that knew Christina.

The biggest rumor
that was going around

is she was in Peoria, and she
wasn't really missing.

I heard some rumors where people

said that they saw her
back in Hannibal

and had talked to her.

I've heard plenty of things.

I've heard that she's
stayed at the Super 8 motel,

and she would walk behind

down the hill and to
the house and go and visit.

[Curtis] There are
always fundraisers stuff

and people are like, "Well,
we're not gonna go support

that cause she's still alive."

[Vicki] When they first
started having the benefits,

everybody was, like,
"Her mom and step-dad

were doing the fundraisers
for their own benefit."

One of the private
detectives said that

they spotted her in Peoria.

"And I'm like, "Okay, well, maybe

they are running a scam."

[Amanda] I've heard,
you know, that Cindy

would go to Peoria
and meet with her.

I did hear that she
was hiding from her family,

wanting to party,
possibly on drugs.

I've heard all types of things.

[man] Her family's contacted
her and told her to stay

gunk cause she's
gonna be in trouble.

Just rumors, you know,
obviously. But...

[Fontana] Why would... Why she...

Why would they be in trouble?
What was that?

I have no idea.

[Fontana] Who do you think?
I mean, after all this time.

[man] You know,
this is Hannibal.

This is a very mysterious town.

I mean, there's been lots
of incidences in this town,

you know, in the last 20
years since I've been here.

So anything is possible,
but, I mean,

as far as me I've never...

[Fontana] Like people
going missing or...

Oh, yeah.
Murders and everything.

There's probably been
five murders

in the last three years now.

Hannibal is full of shit.

You can put that on camera,
I don't care.

They're full of shit.

If it's some kinds of juice
of something, whether it's,

"Oh, my neighbor hit my dog,"

you're gonna have 2,000 comments

on why this person is racist,
or narcissist,

a Republican or a Democrat,
like, if they can latch

onto something, they do
and they just suck it dry.

[Fontana] It is crazy to me
to think that Christina

has left town,

but then comes back
every now and then

to visit her family and
the cops don't know about it.

I don't know how
the Hannibal police feel

about the case because they
still refuse to talk to me.

And maybe they refuse to talk
to me because I'm involved

with the family and there's
something to be suspect about.

[Christina] Ah! Got her!
Two seconds, but I had her.

There we go. Smile, Breezy.

Your grandkids
are gonna see you smile.

[Fontana] Breanna Carver,
who goes by Breezy,

was a longtime friend
of Christina's.

It was Breezy who met
Christina for drinks

the night she disappeared.

Breezy is no stranger
to trouble,

she has multiple felony
convictions on her record

related to the distribution
and possession of narcotics,

and people close to Breezy
and Christina

describe their
relationship as volatile.

Her and Breezy actually hadn't
talked for three months.

They hadn't been getting
along for a couple of months

or something and then the day

that she goes missing
she had seen Breezy that day.

And they went
to the bar that night, so...

If that tells you anything.

[Fontana] Breezy has not
been an easy person

to track down and so
far she hasn't responded

to my request for an interview.

I gotta say that
tracking people down

in Hannibal is not easy.

[knocking]

Every time I get an address
for somebody connected

to this case and I
go to knock on the door,

they either have moved,

or they've never lived
at that address.

- [phone ring]
- Damn.

And the same goes
when I try to call people.

[answer machine] Just
called Darryl Ray Connor.

I am not home.

[Fontana] I'm constantly
getting these messages

that the phone
has been disconnected.

[answer machine] The
number you've dialed

is not a working number.

[Fontana] Or they don't have
a voicemail set up.

So I can't even leave
messages for people.

I mean it's...

Everyone you call,
and I'm told that,

like, well, that's what it is.

They don't want calls
from people they don't know.

But it's like, but how,
if you're a new person, like,

how are you supposed to...

If they don't pick up the phone
they don't want a message from you.

[Vin] I'll give you my phone.

I know, but at least you have
voicemail, voicemail set up.

[chuckles]

I remember that the night
she went missing

there was a hit
and run near the bar.

Like, somebody hit a parked
car, and very near that area

somebody that the family
did know found a cellphone.

The next morning, her phone
was found on the ground

a block from the bar

and a man named Danny Baker
had found it.

He knew Christina,

she had known him
for quite a few years.

He said was about 7:00-7:30,
he's walking up

to his mom's house,
and he says he's seen it

on the ground, picked it up
and was looking through it.

[Fontana] I've actually
been trying to get in touch

with him for close
to three years.

[Fontana] Oh, shit.

[Fontana] OK.

Right.

I'm trying to understand
why Christina,

a 21 year old woman,
would be connected

to Danny Baker,
a convicted sex offender.

The only thing
I could think of is drugs.

At this point I don't know
if Christina ran into Danny

the night she went missing,

but I do plan to track him
down with my investigators.

In the meantime, I'm gonna talk

to the search dog handler
who looked for Christina

in the days immediately
following her disappearance.

[Wes] She was missing
Friday night,

I found out about it
Sunday night.

- You brought your dog here.
- Yeah.

Did the police call you in or
just someone knew your family?

- Somebody knew me...
- OK.

And I just...
I asked if I could help.

Would you be able to take me
through her steps?

She had been asked
to leave Rookie's bar.

This is where we started.

Zeus started pulling me
down to this alley here.

[Fontana] OK.

[Wes] I got some articles
of clothing from Cindy.

We started hitting
on some stuff down here.

This is where Zeus
just totally went berserk.

In this alley in the back
of this place right here.

[Fontana] OK.
Do you know who lives here?

- I never found out.
- OK.

At the time, law enforcement

was not considering her
a missing person yet.

She's an adult.

After I got involved,
they can get,

I think, a little more serious.

I got in touch
with Gateway Search and Rescue

out of Saint Louis.

They needed an initial okay
from the police department,

and unfortunately, the police
didn't get us that okay.

- Uh...
- [Fontana] Really?

So they did not come.

The police felt
that they had the initial

investigation under control.

The big key, I think,
in the whole case was Danny.

- [Fontana] Danny Baker?
- Yes.

[Fontana] Who found
the phone, allegedly.

Yeah. Yeah.

Of course, that was Seventh St.,

you know, where her phone
and stuff was found.

If that's where he found
the phone, that's him,

- that's him saying that.
- He said he found it there.

We don't actually know
if it was found there.

[Wes] Yes.

By the time they got him
in for questioning,

he was no more in there

and his family was
looking for an attorney.

- [Fontana] Really?
- [Wes] Yeah.

And they walked him out.

[Fontana] We were told
that he found the phone

on Seventh St. where
there was a hit and run.

Somebody hit a parked
car and there was,

like, red paint
that was left behind it.

Was that car... That accident
really investigated to see...

I don't think it was
initially taken as a...

as something put together.

[Fontana] Years later
people started talking

a little bit more,
but I don't know,

like, where that's getting us,
you know?

We start hearing names
or it could be this one

or it could be that one.

I've always felt that answers
were here in this town.

I spent seven years
as a private investigator

in Columbia, Missouri

and out of all the time
I spent in Peoria,

everything that I saw,
everything that I heard,

it was a waste of time.

But you weren't gonna
convince me and it...

It tore my heart apart.

And I eventually just felt
I had to, I had to walk away.

Cause it... it...

[sobbing]

I invested my life
cause I wanted to find her.

So, yeah, it tore me up
and I walked away.

[John] What I seem to find
when I went to the bar,

all the people I spoke
with were more than willing

to talk about the Christina case

or the stuff that's
going on in Hannibal.

It was like just part
of the conversations,

like, "Yeah,
people die around here.

If you wanted to kill
somebody come to Hannibal.

There's lakes,
the Mississippi..."

- [Fontana] Damn.
- You know, the one woman made a comment

that was just a passing comment

that the catfish
in the Mississippi river

can eat a human whole.

For most of her life
she's been very aware

of the murders that
are happening in Hannibal.

She says there's a
list of at least 50.

- [Fontana] 50 people?
- That's what she said.

Not only
are they not investigated,

but more often than not,
they're covered up.

[Fontana] I love how
the friendly casual chat

in Hannibal is the covering up
of murders and missing people.

Maybe it is common knowledge
what happened to Christina

within the town.

[Fontana] All right,
let's talk about the case.

Richard Danny Baker,
this is the sex offender

who supposedly found the phone.

Now, we wanna find out from
Danny when he found the phone.

- Yeah.
- If he found the phone.

Yeah, I would think
that Danny could be key

to a lot of different things.

He could be part of it,
or he could have a lot

of knowledge of what
happened that night.

People were familiar with Danny.

We know he's a sex offender,
he has to register for that,

and, uh, just a really kind
of weird character.

He's just kinda, you know,
every neighborhood

has a person that kinda
walks around and...

Unsociable.
That's the kind of guy he is.

Do we know where...
We have his address?

Yes.

These...
It looks like regular glasses,

there's a camera in here, but
there's like two little holes.

Can't tell when it's
recording or anything.

I'm gonna wear these all day
just in case we go in

a situation like the bars,
and we can't bring cameras in.

I mean, you can't
even see the wire.

- [cameraman] No.
- You can't see anything.

[John] Did somebody ever bring
up Danny Baker at all to you?

[Fontana] No. She just said,
"Danny Baker found the phone."

I had no idea how important
he was to this case.

All right,
let me turn on my VTR.

Let's do it.

[door closes]

[Fontana] Oh, my God.

I'm nervous.
I really hope he talks to us.

- This way?
- [John] Yeah.

[Fontana] I really hope this
guy isn't totally unstable.

Oh, wow. This is interesting.

Dude, this is creepy.
Look at these signs.

"Nobody is allowed in here

without my permission
except for Danny.

Sorry, no bums allowed."

"Keep out."

Oh, my God, look at this one.

"There is a crazy, mean,
old, ugly ape man within."

This is scary.
Do you think he's in there?

[knocking]

[John] This is the house that
comes up for registration.

[Fontana] All right.

I mean, Danny is important,
we have to talk to him.

[John] Okay.

[Fontana] All right, well...

Danny is the only person
with any link

to any actual evidence.
So we gotta find him.

A lot of time
has passed in this case.

Christina Whittaker
has now been missing

for about seven years.

I made numerous attempts
to talk to Danny,

by calling him,
by staking out his house,

by knocking on his door.

But I was never able
to reach him.

Danny Baker is clearly one
of the most important people

to speak to in the case
because he was in possession

of the only piece
of physical evidence.

And Darcy Morris, the man many,

including Cindy,
believe is responsible

for Christina's disappearance

has been in an Illinois
State Prison since 2013.

He's serving 25 years
for beating a man to death

in Peoria with a two-by-four.

I've been chasing Darcy
for an interview since 2010,

but he has never responded.

Cindy continues to tell
me about sightings

of Christina in Peoria,
but I no longer jump

at those things because
I don't trust what Cindy

tells me anymore.

I mean, you hear all the
rumors that people are saying.

She's alive and she
comes back to visit,

and she goes into the motel
and they're all in cahoots

for money and everybody
knows what happened.

I feel like I need to trust
my own instincts

at this point, but I keep
running into brick walls.

I just got word
that Danny Baker has died.

It looks like
he had a heart attack.

I mean, it's like you
gotta be kidding me.

Any secret that Danny Baker
may have been harboring

about Christina Whittaker
and how he found that phone

may have just died with him.

I tapped every source I have

to see if there was anyone
in Danny's orbit that A,

talked to him about Christina,

and B, would be willing
to talk to me about it.

And I actually found someone.

What do you remember
hearing about what happened?

My ex-husband Daniel Baker
had told me Christina

came over that night
with Josh Bowen.

Christina had dated him before,

and they ended up over
Josh's dad,

Dim Bowen's house on Sixth St.

There were
some people over there.

Some black guy and some guy
that he was with.

How did Danny end
up with her phone?

He told the police that he had
found it down here

on Seventh and Church,

which if you look out this
window you can see the corner.

There was an accident.

She was walking home,
she must've called Danny

and Josh for a ride

and as they turned
the corner they hit her.

She was bleeding from her head,

and she was not able
to really function.

They had thrown her in
the back of the truck.

[Janet] Yes.

Who's truck might've been?
Josh's truck or Danny's truck?

[Janet] Josh's truck.

It was a maroon looking truck.

Josh demanded him to help
throw her body in the truck

or he'd do the same to him.

And he said he was
drunk at the time,

and I asked him about it,
and he said, "Well, he...

Josh wanted him to help get
rid of her body in the river."

And he told him
he was not gonna participate.

But I don't know
if he did or not.

[Fontana] Because there
was a hit and run in that area

where supposedly her phone
and keys were found

and there was red paint,
do you remember the paint?

Somebody hit a parked car.

So they pull up on her
really quick and accidentally

hit her and hit the car,
that would make sense.

Yes.

[Fontana] One interesting
thing I discovered

about Josh Bowen is that
he posted on Facebook

he got a new car two weeks
after Christina went missing.

Even though Josh declined
to sit down with me and talk,

he did speak to one
of my investigators

and denied the allegation
that Janet is making.

I mean, since the Hannibal
police still won't sit down

with me, my biggest sources
of information

about the hit and run are
Janet and Cindy and Alex.

According to them,
the Hannibal police

did check into Josh Bowen
right after Christina's phone

was found because he had
dated her in the past,

and he has a connection
to Danny Baker.

I don't know if he is still
a person of interest to them

of if they cleared it.

In a town full of rumors,

it's very possible that this
is just another rumor.

I need tangible things
to investigate.

The hit and run is tangible, it
is something that happened.

If Josh Bowen didn't cause
the hit and run, who did?

[Vicki] The thing is too that,
you know, Danny might

not have found that phone there.

[Fontana] Exactly.

So I mean, who knows
if he found that phone

really on the ground?

He took it to his grave,
you know?

He's never gonna be
able to tell us.

[Fontana] Right or tell us
if he knows anything

about the hit and run.

[Vicki] There's a good
chance the hit and run

was nothing to do with her.

And it might not ever happened.

You know, who knows?

[Fontana] Yeah, but did they
trace the hit and run?

Did they find out whether
anybody get work done

- after that car or sell their car or...?
- [indistinct conversation]

One of my good friends
worked at the body shop

and he told Hannibal
police exactly

what kind of
car was that hit and ran.

He got the paint
chip off the car.

The coat of the car and he
could tell what year was,

what kind of car it was,
everything.

He told them exactly
the car come across the road

and hit and went that way
on the wrong side of the road.

Maybe they jumped
out and grabbed her,

and there was a fight,
but she got pulled.

But Hannibal police, you know,
"They ain't gonna do that".

Well, what are you
covering up there?

There was a crime there
that had a hit and run,

for one,
even if it ain't got nothing

to do with Christina,
I don't know.

This frustrates you.

[Cindy] There she is.

All that prettiness
just sent away.

All that comes back up in my
mind and if I hear

it was something else that...
That, you know,

she's been through and that
she's been through enough.

Baker, sure.

[laughing]

I love it.

[Cindy] Christina was
diagnosed probably

at the age of 17

with bipolar disorder,
manic depressive.

She was having, you know,
emotional problems.

If you've ever seen
her list of medications,

that child was on
so much medication,

and she wasn't...
She wasn't herself.

And when she got pregnant
with Alexandria,

she was taken off
of her medicine,

and just like me and you,

she was perfectly
and completely normal.

And I always hoped that she
wouldn't, they wouldn't put her back on it

because she seemed fine.

She does seemed fine
without them.

And when she had the baby,
her doctors weren't giving

her the medicine and Christine,
in her mind, she needed it.

So she got a different doctor.

She just got a doctor in
Quincy, and he just...

I mean, he just... over...
I mean, it was unreal.

I actually didn't know
she was on all that.

Christine was
in the mental guard here

probably about a month
and a half

before when she went missing.

No, she just knew. She said,
"Mom, I'm just not feeling right."

And she said, um, "I think
my medicines are messed up."

She said, "I'm gonna...
Imma wait a couple days

and, you know,
get my meds straighten up."

She was responsible like that.

Three, four, five days,
you know.

Maybe about four,
five days, you know?

And she'd come out
and she seemed like

she was, you know, pretty good.

[Fontana] Christina
was clearly struggling

with mental health issues

in the months leading up
to her disappearance.

I mean, how desperate
must someone feel

to check themselves
into a mental health facility?

I don't know if she was taking
all of those medications

that were prescribed
to her together,

but, I mean, how could
she be thinking clearly?

And now I'm finding
out despite Cindy's claims,

Christina had serious issues
with all kinds of drugs.

[Cindy] Come by the tree.

- Ryan look.
- [Cindy] Right by those trees.

That's where the rabbit's at.

Ryan look.

Christina did use drugs
to escape her own mind,

her own sadness,
her own living hell, really.

Christina did struggle.

She did struggle
with her mental health,

with her addiction.

She had no control.

She had no control of her anger.

She had no control
over her words.

[indistinct conversations]

She'd get depressed
and down and out,

and she would, you know,
talk about suicide and...

And I'm like, "No,
you can't do that, remember?

I'm supposed to graduate
high school.

I'm supposed to go to college,
and I'm supposed to take you

and we're supposed
to just run away."

She had fears of certain
people. Certain places.

[Fontana] Where would
all that come from?

[Amanda]
That's her story to tell.

Not everybody's doorstep
is clean.

Cindy knew about
the things that we did.

Christina didn't hide it
from her.

She knew that we were using
and drinking. She knew it.

She's never done drugs
in her life,

supposedly they had her out
there on drugs.

[Travis] She liked Duster.

Air Duster
computer board cleaner.

That's stuff were bad.

- [Fontana] Like huffing and...
- Yeah.

[Fontana]
And, you know, actually,

also I was told that she
was taking prescription pills.

Oh, she loved pills. She loved...

[Fontana] Was there any other drugs?
Or was it the huffing and just the...

Those were the main
ones I knew about.

The other stuff, I mean,
never in my presence, no.

[Fontana] Was she high
a lot because of it?

It was, you know, most before

that she came as messy
as she was.

I think towards the end
she started to clean up

a little bit because there
was a lot of stuff going on.

Me and her biggest problem
was I was trying

to get her cleaned.
I cared about her.

So, you know, it was rough, I
wouldn't lie to you, you know?

There was times we'd
be cursing down the road

and she'd be so [bleep] high
on that Duster,

she'd be thinking her dad
was talking to her

and said, "Wow."

I said, "You gonn' kill yourself.
I don't wanna be with you."

She was a good woman, I mean...

She asked me one time, "What
can I do to improve my life?"

I said,
"Get rid of your friends."

Cause she had a lot of
friends, you know what I mean?

And they all be on something

so they want her to try,
you know?

I'm like, "You can't do that.

You got a kid now,
you need to straighten up."

[Heather] She did like to party

and when she did she'd became
a different person.

Like she'd get real
down and crying

about her past
and stuff like that.

[Fontana] What would she
talk about in her past?

Some stuff about her grandpa.

I don't really know too much,
um, something was

about her grandpa.

I... It's just, it's just
awful. It's just awful.

[David] It's been a while,
but it still freaking

ways on me a lot.

Of course.

[David] I mean, it's hard for
me to talk about these

stuff cause Christina
was a good friend of mine.

We met up at that bar
that night, and, um,

she was just talking about
she was just depressed,

that she would be better off
if she wasn't around.

I was like,
"You can't be serious."

At that time I would've thought

that she would've been
that kind of person,

especially since this is
about her daughter.

It seems like the
circumstances don't really show

that if somebody was drunk
and, you know,

taking a couple things

and getting kicked out
of bars and fights.

It doesn't seem like
that would be the night

she chose to just
take off at 1:00 a.m.

[David] Yeah.

[Fontana] I mean, you know,
it seems like she ran into

the wrong person that night,
you know?

[David] That's what
I'm thinking, like,

she was a very trustworthy
person, you know?

Like, she didn't act
like had that in her.

If I wasn't so young and stupid back
then, you know, I would've stayed around

and made sure she got home
cause she was a good friend of mine.

Just sad that I was
just irritated

with the way she was acting
that I left before she left

cause I left around 10:00 p.m.

and it was shortly
after that Breanna said

that she got
kicked out of the bar.

And it's funny how
everything is, you know?

One of the last persons
she talked to was me.

So why was I never questioned
or anything by the cops?

Hey, guys, I just... I just
woke up this morning and...

And I'm crying
because of my mom.

She's been missing
for eight years.

It's about time you
just need to try.

It just need to try.

I'm really starting to get
concerned about Alexandria.

It's one thing to hold on
to wonderful images

about your mom and have some
sort of identity with that,

but I feel like her
identity is trench in,

in not just her mom,
but the search and this case.

[Cindy] Mommy.
Say, "Where's my mom?"

My mom.

[Fontana] Her mom's Peoria
and she needs to be rescued.

She said she's asking
Santa Claus

for her mommy
for Christmas this year.

[Fontana] It's just seems
like holidays and birthdays

are just about trying
to rescue her mom.

[Cindy] Yeah,
make a wish for you momma.

[Alexandria] I wish that
my mommy have food and water.

[Cindy] Oh.

And it's obviously having
a negative effect on her.

[crying]

I'm worried
if she is making videos

he was in jail
for distribution of meth.

He says he ran into somebody

while he was in jail who had
information about Christina.

and he admitted to him
that he was there.

Anthony said he was a part
of taking Christina with Darcy

from Hannibal to Peoria.

that claim to have
taken Christina that night.

still haven't interviewed
Anthony.

Archie has since been
released from prison,

so I'm gonna go sit down
with him and talk.

Is it just because that Anthony

is connected to Darcy that you
kinda felt maybe it was him?

Anthony told me
that they took her.

They was told to give her
a ride to her house

and end up taking her to
Peoria a couple of days later.

I said, "What did
y'all do with her?

Did y'all have sex with her?
Anything like it?"

He said, "I didn't."

And so I said, um,
"Where she at now?"

He said, "She's gone."
I said, "Gone where?"

He said, "Man,
just leave it like it is.

The bitch is gone."

That's all he kept telling me,
"The bitch is gone."

I went talk to internal
affairs and I told them

about it, and they made
a statement and everything.

Signed a waiver to take
a lie detector test

and stuff like it.

- Did they give it to you?
- No.

So I guess you must've
sent Hannibal police...

Yeah, I called Hannibal
and said, "Listen",

Archie keeps telling me
the story.

You guys need to do
something with this.

- They wouldn't let me go back.

and Christine
would've been found.

gotten Anthony to tell me

where she was at.

But, deep down in my heart
I think Anthony knows

where the girl's at.

to killing Christina.

to meet with Darcy's

old girlfriend, Sunny.

light on what Darcy knows

about Christina's case
and if he was involved.

[Sunny] I met Darcy on Facebook.

We started dating,
as I guess you would call it.

I found out June 4th, 2013,

that he was being
investigated for Christina.

I got picked up
by Federal marshals

and Quincy Police Department.

They told me
that I was gonna be arrested

involving the Christina
Whittaker's disappearance

and possibly homicide/murder.

Gave them access
to my Facebook accounts,

my phone records to prove
that I was innocent.

- And they let you go?
- Correct.

[Fontana] And at that point
where you were like,

"Wow, I'm with a bad guy.
I need to get away"?

[Sunny] I started do
a little digging myself

about him, finding out
that he was married

and what he did to his wife.

[Fontana] What he did
to his wife?

Um, he stabbed her
multiple times.

He's beat her, he's ran her
over with the car.

He'd never been disrespectful
or anything like that

until July 4th.

He called me,
asked me where I was at,

I told him that I'd be
down that way shortly.

There was two girls
that lived across

the alleyway from where
he was staying at.

He had come out as I was
talking to the girls.

I knew something was wrong then.

He started walking
towards me... and, uh,

he punch me in my left side
of my face.

As I'm trying
to walk away from him

I get in between these
two buildings

and that's where he begins
to battle me

to where I'm on the ground.

I'm coming in and out
of consciousness. Um...

Somehow he found out

that I've talked
to the US's Marshalls.

He picks me up, puts me
over his shoulder and takes me

to a park bathroom...

and, uh...

I'm sorry.

As I was coming out
of unconsciousness

I remember him saying
to just do what he says,

and I wouldn't end up
like Christina.

That's when I found out that...

He possibly may have
had something to do

with her disappearance.

I remember him saying
that he had beat her up

and putting on her on and
sold her for prostitution.

And that something
had went wrong.

Either she had started
fighting back

or tried to get away.

And they put her
in a hog farm somewhere.

[Fontana] And he said
that, he pretty much said

that he killed her, and...

Yeah.

I went into Hannibal
police station

to talk to an officer,
and I told him,

"I wanna make a statement."

And he was like, "Well,
nobody will see your statement."

[Fontana] That is, like,
unbelievable to me.

[Sunny] The US Marshalls
picked him up for assault

with a two-by-four,
murder to the man

that he had killed days
after what he did to me.

[Fontana] After eight years,
dozens of Facebook messages

and letters and calls,

Darcy Morris has finally
agreed to talk to me.

I'll be confronting him
for the first time

at Danville correctional
in eastern Illinois,

where he's doing
25 years for murder.

[Darcy] What is this about?

[Fontana] Remember when I wrote
you that letter that was like a while ago?

[Darcy] I forgot to
ever reply, though.

[Fontana] I've been working
on that documentary

about Christina Whittaker for,
like, eight years.

The girl from Hannibal,

That she went missing.

Yes, but don't know her, though.

of her friends told her

that I had something to do
with her being missing.

to do with that.

Yeah, me and Sunny
had some disagreement,

but she was a good person,
though.

But I messed that up too
by acting stupid.

If I wouldn't have messed up,
I wouldn't be caught

in this case, and I wouldn't
have to go be in Peoria

and be locked up now,
but... I messed that up

cause I didn't know how
to keep my hands to myself.

A lot of women out there,
they were good,

I just... My stupid anger.

I stirred the anger up.

[Fontana] What did people
say about Christina Whittaker?

That she was trying
to get away from?

They said that she was having
problems with her mother

and stuff and that she
didn't wanna go back

to Hannibal, but I'm like,
why would she do that

if she knows she got
a child or some children

up there that she'd left
behind and stuff?

I'm like, nothing
of that makes no sense.

I even told her mamma
that when we talked in '13.

where you at the same bar

as Christina the night
she went missing?

I can't tell you
because I don't know

when she came by missing.

[Fontana] It was
in 2009 in November.

I understand that,

but when she post came
on missing I was here

in Danville
for my daughter's, uh, birth.

ask you this then,

have you ever heard anything?

where she was at
I would've told her mamma

years ago when I talked
to her before I was caught

- into the murder case.

that you killed Christina

and that you've written

to do with her disappearance

The detectives they were
questioning me about her.

to know where she's at?

I don't even know her.

But they tried to use
reverse psychology turmoil.

"We'll drop the drugs
and the guns... The bullets

and whatever gun charges
against you

if you tell us where she's at."

How the hell am I supposed
to tell you something

that I don't know?

I don't know, so I can't
tell you or them where she is.

who claim that you've
killed Christina?

There's a lot of people
out there saying

that I had something
to do with this girl,

There's a lot of y'all putting

make her come back,

I hope she comes home,

or her parents found out

that I had something to do

who was with Christina

the night she disappeared
told an investigator

that Darcy was in Hannibal,

and he was there to deliver
drugs to Christina.

the night that she ran out,
got dope everywhere

to snorts lines of cocaine
on the toilet at the bar.

He used to come here
from Peoria all the time

to bring her dope.

It was like twice a month
that I know of.

These little towns
like this got more going on

in them that you'll
find in any big city.

Why is it that
they can't find her?

Why is it they won't find her?

"She got what she deserved."
