After several years of further study, leadership researchers decided that the traits approach just

didn't explain leaders well enough.

They developed the theory of the behavioral approach to leadership.

Now, if we look at the behavioral approach, psychologists narrowed down to two prominent groups of

behaviors that effective leaders exhibit tasks, related behaviors such as planning, resourcing, getting

things done, very action oriented and task focused.

And then there are people related behaviors such as gaining support, gaining commitment.

And motivation, these behaviors focus on getting things done through others, hmm, it seems like we're

getting closer to understanding what makes an effective leader, but we're not quite there.
