Dolly wanted to be an actress.

A ballet dancer.

The twins were from a small
town in the middle west.

Lucky for me, I met them the day

they arrived in the big city.

They didn't know a soul.

They were very grateful when I offered to,

well, sort of show 'em around.

I knew just as soon as I saw the twins

that they were just what
I needed for my business.

I figured with a little
persuasion they'd be easy marks.

I decided I'd better act fast.

She seemed to be kind of innocent.

And so she said, "yes, she'd marry him."

John wanted to know how Meg could, uh,

afford such an expensive apartment.

Meg said, "she was
staying with some friends

for a while as a guest."

John was making plans for their wedding.

He kept telling her how much he loved her,

and how he'd work for her.

(Phone ringing)

The phone rang, and Meg went to answer it.

(Phone clicks)

I, uh, guess Meg didn't
realize her voice would carry

and that John would hear her conversation.

(Ominous music)

Well, he did hear her.

He heard her make a date with
some guy and mention money.

If he hadn't heard the
conversation with his own ears

he never would have believed it.

When Meg came back to the
couch John was furious.

After all that he'd planned.

And after that big trip to the city.

It hadn't been easy
getting away from the farm.

And now to find this.

“Why he just couldn't
believe it," he said.

from the first moment he'd
seen her at the barn dance.

he hadn't stopped thinking about her.
