The reason I moved to New York.
was because of watching episodes of Sex and the City

and there standing in front of me was
Sarah Jessica Parker.

And I just.. lost it.

In case anyone doesn't know..

I'm thrilled and honored
to introduce Sarah Jessica Parker.

Sarah Jessica's going to tell you
about your challenge.

Well, ladies and gentlemen,

I'm especially exctied to tell you
that this week's challenge,

is to create a two-piece look
for my new clothing line, Bitten.

- You'll do it?

The look that you'll designing is for
our fall/winter collection.

The idea behind the line is about creating high-end
American sportswear at affordable prices,

so giving everywoman what she needs.

We believe that fashion shouldn't be luxury,
and quality shouldn't be a priviledge.

As Sarah Jessica mentioned, this two-piece outfit
is about affordability, and she means it.

The entire look must retail for less than 40 dollars.

Oh, retail? / Retail.

As you know in fashion, there's a big difference
between the cost of raw materials and the retail price.

Accordingly, your budget is 15 dollars.

Wow! / Jesus.

15 dollars. I think we're gonna be using
toilet paper, and scotch tapes.

You'll have 30 minutes to develope design concepts on paper,
then you'll be pitching your ideas to Sarah Jessica

who in turn choose seven of you
to move forward with your designs.

Those seven will pick from the remaing
group of designers to form teams of two.

That's where I got nervous.

I love to work in teams,
but I definitely want to be on a good team.

Sarah Jessica has thoughtfully brought
dossiers for each of you

to help inform your design decision making.

I did use a dossier.

I think when you're designing mass market,
you have to appeal to everyone.

I definitely knew I wanted to do a dress,
and a really creative jacket.

Because I didn't wanna copy any of the shapes
they already have done.

The first challenge.. felt like I sucked.

I still feel like I'm trying to prove myself.

I want Sarah Jessica Parker
to like my outfit.

So,it was like, all right.

I know I can do this.

You have five minutes.

All right, designers,

The first person to pitch to

- Nice to meet you, I'm Jack.

I went with, you know, a basic top, and I did some maybe
contrast topstitching that can do the little something.

It's really nice to see
you did a great job.

Oh, my god. My pleasure.

It has a knit dress with a cowl,
and a turtleneck. / Yes, yes.

Nervous about pitching to Sarah Jessica?
Absolutely.

Um.. it's so incredible to meet you like..
I cannot.. / Thank you so much.

I make things polymorphic,

so I want to make very simple cape
then it becomes a little bit like a hood

as actually goes crisscross
around this way and ties in a little bow,

then you can be also tied with
a simple little cascade. / Very clever.

So I noticed when I looked through the line
there were no skirts, really?

Right. It's not heavy on the skirts.

So I added a skirt. / Great.

The back, yeah, we'll have a little placket in the back
followed by button story back there.

This is really button story.

It is about button story. / I mean,
I don't mean in a bad way, I mean..

I wanna do a knit dress, the jacket is paneled,
and here in this area is gonna be pleading.

- I'm taking it a little bit more forward.

I have a top that has pockets like this,
and a ribbing at the bottom.

It could be just with leggings
that come to the waist underneath. / Great.

A long dress, with a white belt.

- That is flattering on everyone, or just..

This design is really just keeping a balance
of femininity and strength.

Wowser. It looks like a complicated jacket to build,
but I'm thrilled you feel..

I love the idea of doing kind of a short dress.

And what is this little vest over here?

So I drew like this,
this gonna be my second piece.

- I love the vest.

Sort of a pullover cape silhouette.

Women who are bigger wouldn't feel like
this is too much of a tent?

Like a fitted cape.
Not so batman.. / Okay, great.

This skirt would actually just be
a very plain black knit.

So really classic. / Right.

Very simple.. / Very simple,
very classic.. / Fantastic.

It was the idea of the shirt dress,
here will pairing up with tights.

- The woman whose size 2 can wear this.

And she can get married, and get pregnant,
take off the belt and still wear this. / Okay.

I was kind of freaked out a little bit, honestly.

and I didn't want an unfinished garment
going down the runway.

Once we got to Mood Fabrics, I told him
straight out, we're using fleece and jersey.

It's leggings, it's sweat-shirt top.

This will be the fringe,

Elisa started pulling out colors
that had nothing to do with the Bitten line.

I knew the shape, and I knew

their special cloth for special occasion.

to complete our two-pieces.

I really wanna do a vest and a dress for some reason.
I thought that kind of fitted the Bitten girl.

It looks very sophisticated.

I'm envisioning something loose.

Most important thing for me is that
different body types can wear it.

This is really important challenge for me,

because it is sort of my way to prove that
I am a great designer.

I had the opening like this.
Sort of like from shoulder to shoulder.

The design is rather intriguing that
Marion had come up with.

And what happens here..
this is just drape or is that..?

I did have some concerns about
being overly intricate,

because we only have until midnight to work tonight.

So what I need to do is.. I need to figure how to do it
in the one cut the way I want to.

I decided to have this two-pieces,
the cape and the polymorphic dress.

And I understood that there would be
a complete zax position of our statics.

Now I'm going to hold this up to you.

And she's a bit taller than us.

With fitting on my garment,
I wasn't really happy about

because I was off like a inch and a half
or two inches like in the waist line and the bust.

and hopefully it will all work out
instead of going down in a ball of flames.

Um, Victorya, I liked very much the sketch
because there was a simplicity about that,

it's very very appealing but my concern was
how you make it interesting,

and I think you did a really good job of that.

It's charming, and I think this is something
that a lot of people can wear.

Can I just see the back of it?

It wasn't intended to be raise-your-back,

but we had it on the form,
we were talking, we were..

We love the back.

Would that fit into your fall/winter collection?

Yeah, very nicely. I think you just really listened
to what we were hoping to see. / Thank you.

- Can we see it without the belt?

I think it's a nice idea,
but I think that proportions are really awkward.

- What is the fabric?
- This is a knit.

I think what actually happened was
this fabric sort of stretches as you work with it.

It looks a bit costumey.

A little Pocahontas, like all she needs
is like a headband and the feather.

Sarah.

I thought that the sketch was very sophisticated.

And it feels like maybe stops a little short of
what the intentions of the sketch were.

I think the armholes are little bit too drapey on the side,
you can see a bra, which is always a little bit.

Yeah, I can't figure it out, really..
how would you wear it?

I have to say, I don't get it at all.

It looks like out of the basement,
it looks dirty, it looks like a rag to me.

And the proportion really is tough,
it's a tough one.

Oh, I think you did a great job.

I really like how the dress look when she walked,
I thought it was sexy and yet appropriate.

It also seems like you get a lot for..

That's polymorphic which means it can be worn
infinite numbers of ways.

Just curious how that partnership broke down,
and how you all worked together.

I was super nervous,
I didn't really understand her language.

Which I don't even know
what polymorphic means.

She does not use the type of tools
that the rest of us still are used to using.

Sometimes I spit mark it, which seems to be
really disturbing to my fellow.. / What?

You should not tell people that.

You know, people might not like that,
that dress has been spit on when they buy it.

What planet are you from?

The planet where I am is one that is been trained
to respond, purely match to materials.

And doesn't necessary, you know, the language
but knows how make it work on the body.

And so, I'm coming to your planet,
but with gifts.

The plain simple truth is it's great looking.

Zillion girls would wanna wear that dress.

- Drapes beautifully, the sleeves are kind of stunning.

It's a lot of look. I know.

I mean, can you really picture that jacket
being easy to fit a lot of different shapes?

This is very very fashion 80's.

It's like full like 80's,

Yes, I just think the way that you guys styled it
looks very retro.

because I think it's so much like my sketch,

It has a stronger color,
and it's a little bit shorter,

and it wasn't as snug.

What do you think about Elisa and Sweet P?

I have to say the cape is very cute.

You could be fifty, you could be fifteen
and look great in that.

It has that swing of American sportswear
you know, that sort of ideal. / Jaunty, yeah.

She took what seemed insane and whimsy,

and she turned that into two great pieces.

What do we think about Victorya and Kevin?

I think Victorya's outfit as a whole
is versatile and beautiful.

You had two interesting pieces here.

It's the simplicity, that's really interesting to me,
to see what she can do with it.

I don't know about you guys, but for me,
the Pokahontas dress was not worked.

It was.. It was like out of the basement,
it looked dirty.

- I think it looked sad.
- It was very sad.

Imagine if you were 5.3,
what that would look like?

Because in it, it was just like..

It just was executed so poorly.

To me, they were going for Hermes.

It's where it flaws,
as it's become sloppy bohemian.

The whole thing just sort of inflows
it was a house of cards

In ten minutes on the runway grew.

It was melting.

What do we think about Christian and Carmen?

I also hated that.

We were back to the disco 80's.

The next thing, you know, you're like
big button earings and you're on fax of life.

I mean.. / Yes.

Just you can go that literal.

The sketch was bold, you know, it was powerful,
but it wasn't retro.

But obviously in his brain,
he doesn't have the same reference point.

He had every intention to do exactly what he wanted.

I really don't feel that I was
on the show long enough

to show my talents and what I can do
and my viewpoint as a designer.

Marion, I have to ask you to go upstairs

The whole journey really has been
a life changing experience.

You know, I wanted to win, and
I wanted to stay through the duration of the show,

but it just didn't happen out that way.

We've been waiting a long time to do this one.

This is the most difficult challenge
that has ever been on Project Runway.
