All language subtitles for 4. Install and run Tor

In this video, we're going to go ahead, install the Tor browser, so again, the Tor browser is a

browser that you're going to need in order to browse the darknet.

And for this example, I do have the hidden wiki up here now.

The hidden wiki is a pretty good resource for finding various onion links, and you can find it at the

hidden Wiki Dawg and we can see a bunch of links in here and different categories.

So.

More commercial links, drugstores, bitcoin, anonymity.

New Onion Links 2021, et cetera, et cetera.

So I do want to emphasize a couple of things about the dark web.

So one, you are going to need a Tor browser in order to browse a dark web or a onion link.

The other thing is, I normally recommend that you use a VPN and also a virtual machine in order to

before you browse the darknet in order to give yourself that extra layer of protection.

Because while there is a lot of legitimate websites on the darknet, there are also a lot of, well,

dangerous websites on the darknet because it's essentially hidden from from Google searches, DuckDuckGo

and whatnot.

In a lot of illicit activity does go on in the dark web.

So the census course is basically built and revolved around trying to build a more accessible ocean

course.

In other words, we're not installing a virtual machine that you might be running on a iPad.

You might be running on an Android tablet Chromebook, or you may be on a arm based processor that doesn't

allow you to install things like, well, VirtualBox or VMware or whatnot.

So you can still browse the dark web using those devices, however, you should exercise caution.

Use a VPN, make sure you use your sock puppets and be very careful about where you're going.

Now, with that said, let's take a look at this, so we have the hidden whiskey here.

And again, we can see these are dark web links because it's a dot onion.

The URL, not the Akamai unadorned dot, geo v, et cetera.

And I have Firefox open here.

So if I click on any of these here, we get an error message so we could see that they're having problems

finding the site.

Well, that's because we need the again the Tor browser in order to browse it.

So if we swing over here, Tor Project and org will get the Tor browser website here and we can go ahead

and download Tor.

And if you're going to browse through here, Tor is actually a really awesome browser.

Defend yourself against tracking and surveillance, circumvent certain censorship, and there's a lot

And their mission statement here.

So I'm going to go ahead ahead and click on Download Tor Browser and we can see it's available for Windows,

Mac, OS, Linux and Android devices.

So I went ahead and download the Tor browser because it is a sizable, well, fairly sizable download

here, so.

I have the file here, it's about 73 Megs here, so not horrible, but I also didn't want everyone to

wait.

One still download it.

So I'm just going to click on here.

We're going to extract this out here.

It will give them some moment to install or rather underprice.

And I'm just going to leave these checked here, I'm going to run the Tor browser and I'm going to add

a shortcut shortcut to my desktop rather.

OK, and here's our Tor browser.

So I'm just going to go and click and connect here.

And what this is going to do is I'm actually going to connect to the Tor system here, and we can see

establishing a relay here.

And we're giving this moment to start up.

Now the thing you need to keep in mind is when you use the Tor browser, since it is routing through

all those different, different servers in order to help give you that privacy, that protection, the

resistance to fingerprinting and whatnot, it is going to be slower than, say, if I fire a regular

Firefox browser or regular Chrome browser or Safari or whatnot and run it.

That's going to be normal.

It is going to be a little bit slower browsing, so don't be alarmed.

And remember, privacy does have have some, well, not quite limitations, but it does are going to

be some caveats to it.

So let's go back here and let's copy this link here.

Open Tor browser and we're going to places in here and I'm going to hit enter and we're going to be

going to see if it pulls up.

And it does.

Since we're using the Tor browser routing through the through the Tor servers here, we can see that

it actually pulled up this link, whereas Firefox was unable to and we could see again different links

in here Tor links.

Now the other thing is, if I click on the little lines here, we could see we could do a new identity.

We can set up a new Tor circuit for this site and so on.

The other thing I want to show you is if I do something like.

OK, so.

Pulling up, what's my IP, I could see my IP address, it thinks I'm in Pakistan right now.

And that's one of the advantages to the Tor browser.

Since I'm running through all these different servers, it's going to drop me out on a kind of a random

location.

So in this case, it thinks I'm coming from Pakistan, so we're going to website and trying to track

me.

It's going to think I'm coming from Pakistan, whereas in fact, I'm in United States, in California,

so this is going to be pretty useful.

But again, you do need to be.

You do need to be mindful that.

So if I pull up a website, it might be in a different language.

I am used to it.

Try not to be too confused about it.

Just try another translator.

Or if you really have a problem with it, you always go up here and you can do a new identity and it'll

spit you out of a different, different server and will change, probably change the location and change

the language that you're going to see.

So again, this is pretty cool.
