- [Instructor] Let's take a look

at the Instagram user interface

so that as we move through the course,

you're comfortable with where all of the primary features

of Instagram are located.

When we first log into the app,

we're on the homepage of Instagram

and this is where we can see any photos and videos

posted by users that we follow on Instagram.

We can tell we're on the homepage

because at the bottom of the screen,

the house icon is shaded in a darker color.

Now we can also access the Activity section here

from the home screen.

To do that, we're just going to tap on the heart icon

at the top right.

This is where we can see all of the activity

that's related to our account.

So we can see when people follow us,

when they comment on our photos or videos,

when they message us,

anything that's happening related to us

and our business on Instagram.

Now let's tap to go back to the home screen.

There's a couple other things here I'd like to show you.

Also, at the top of the screen, we have the plus button

and this is where we can upload new photos and videos

to our Instagram account.

So when we tap on the plus button,

you'll see that we have access to photos

that are already on our phone

and we could actually take some new photos and videos

from here as well.

We're going to look at this in depth later on in the course.

So I'm just going to hit the X for now.

The next area I want to show you is back at the bottom

and that's the magnifying glass area.

That's where we can search on Instagram.

So let's go ahead and tap on that.

So when we access the Search section,

this is where we can find any new posts on Instagram,

we can find new people to follow.

So there's already some posts presented there for us

but we could tap in the search box at the top

and we could start searching.

So you'll notice that I have some accounts

in the Recent section that I've already searched for

and we're going to look at some of these accounts

later on in the course

but we could search for some of our competitors

but we could also search for keywords or hashtags

related to our industry to try and get some inspiration

from some other users here on Instagram.

Let's cancel this out for now

and let's take a look at the next section.

So again, back at the bottom of the screen,

the next icon to the right is the play button

and that allows us to access Instagram Reels.

So these are just short videos

that are uploaded by Instagram users.

We're going to look at how we can upload these

later on in the course

but that's where you could view some videos

from other users.

The next icon over is the shopping button.

So let's go ahead and tap on that.

This is where we can see shopping posts on Instagram.

We're going to talk about as a marketer

how we can make use of the shopping feature

but I just want to show you that this is where it is.

So we're probably not going to be doing

much shopping ourselves as a business on Instagram

but it's important to know what other users are seeing

and how they're using Instagram.

So the next icon over at the bottom of the screen

is the profile button.

So let's tap on that one.

So when we tap on this thing,

we're brought to our own Instagram profile

where we can see all of the photos and videos

that we've uploaded to Instagram.

Now, from here, we could tap on the Edit Profile button

and we could change the description

of our profile here on Instagram

and we're going to take a look at this

more in depth later on

and how to actually build an Instagram profile.

However, I'd also like to mention

that if any time you need to access the Instagram Settings,

you can tap on the three lines

at the top right of the screen and then tap on Settings.

We're going to look at a couple of the important areas

within Settings later on in the course

but I did want to bring you here

so that you know how to access it

if you need to find something.

So hopefully now you have an idea

of where all the primary sections of Instagram are located

so that you know where to go

when I'm speaking about one of these sections

later on in the course.
