Now, you might be thinking, what on earth is a boom chick?

Well, this style of finger style guitar playing, which was popularized by Merle Travis and Chet Atkins

and Tommy Emmanuel, who who's my mentor, when you play this bass pattern,

you're kind of imitating the boom, boom, boom, boom chick of a bass drum and a snare drum.

So it's a way of accompaniment on the guitar that imitates the sound of of of a drum set.

So it's a way of playing a groove on the guitar, essentially.

So we're going to look at the six string roots boom chick bass pattern first.

Now it's just four notes.

That's all there is.

And these four notes repeat over and over again, and we're talking about the right hand only here.

So the left hand to play a major chord, we could play an important role or, you know, or an F Barkhor,

but.

For simplicity's sake, let's stick to a g open chord with the left hand and we're going to play these

four notes.

That's all there is.

It sounds deceptively simple, but it's actually quite difficult to get your hand really used to doing

that.

So we're playing the six string.

The fourth string.

Then the fifth string.

Then the fourth string, so it's six four, five, four,

six four.

But

remember to keep the palm, you know, rested against the bridge that

I know it's very boring, but practicing that over and over again is a worthwhile way to spend your

time.

Because as we go through some of these rolling patterns, you know what that thumb to just keep keep

that groove going steady and it's not going to want to do it.

But once you get to the point where your thumb is going to do that automatically and you add the finger

rolling up top, you'll be able to play all these fantastic fingerstyle songs and exercises that we're

going to learn.
