in a world he kept separate

A world of summer people
who came to Rose Point.

My father worked
as their caretaker,

opening their mansion cottages
at the end of May each year,

and maintaining them
through the long Maine
winters.

It was a place where people
named their houses: Northwinds,

Fairhaven, Kettlecove
and here, Serenity Cottage.
