Every time I have a project

[Sarah] I'm so incredibly
amazed by how beautiful it is.

[Ashley]
Where are we right now?

[Ryan] We are
in Monmouth, Maine.

This road is taking forever.

[Ryan] This is for
a new project, right?

All I know is he called
and said, "Meet me here."

[Ryan] Maybe this is a trap.

[Ashley]
Why would Chase trap us?

He set us on a trap.
I feel like it's a set up.

- Why would he do that to us?
- I don't know.

[Ashley] We're not late,
we're not late.

- [Ryan]Oh, my gosh!
- [Ashley] Oh. jeez!

- They know they're late.
- [Ryan] There they are.

- Who's he with?
- Hey! Look who I have with me!

- [Ryan] That is Sarah.
- What is Sarah doing here?

- [Ryan] I don't know.
- [Ashley] What is going on?

We've been waiting
for about an hour.

- [Ryan] I'm confused.
- [Ashley] Me too.

Sarah.

I am married to Chase.

We've been married for
15 years and have four kids

and a beautiful life
here in Maine.

- [Ryan] Hi.
- [Ashley] What are you doing here?

- [Sarah] Well...
- Surprise!

- [Sarah] This is our camp!
- [Chase] We're new camp owners.

[Ashley] What?

[laughing]

This is why you've been acting
so weird lately.

I have so many questions
right now.

[Sarah]
What do you guys think?

- It's cute.
- I'm still trying to wrap my head

around what's going on.

So, what, how do you guys
just own a camp now?

- What's happening?
- So, Sarah's mother, you know,

- recently passed away.
- Yeah.

[Sarah] We're actually here today at
a camp that Chase and I just bought.

We were left a small amount
of money from my mother

who passed away this year.

My mom, we called her Mimi Eva.

She spent a lot of time
with her grandchildren

and she spent
a lot of time on the lake,

so she was a kayaker
and swimmer...

She would be on the water with
the kids just, you know, just playing,

so we really see this
as sort of a tribute to her

and a place that,
you know, hopefully

we can be those same
grandparents for our kids.

[Chase] That's a beautiful
piece of property, it's historic.

- [Ryan] It's gorgeous.
- [Ashley] It's gorgeous.

[Chase] It used
to belong to Bette Davis.

- [Ryan] Really?
- [Sarah] Pretty amazing.

[Ashley]
looks like a house.

- [Ryan] It's cute though...
- [Ashley] Cute.

[Ryan] It doesn't need
a new roof.

- [Ryan] It looks like it doesn't need to be jagged.
- No.

[Ryan] You guys, you can get
new camps every day.

[laughs]

[Ryan] Chase used to ask
these questions from this side.

[Chase] So, if I change
then it looks like...

[laughs]

So Chase, what's your budget?

[laughs] Well, so we're about
$30,000 put into this project.

- [Ryan] All right.
- 30,000? How come you have the lowest budget so far?

- No, 40,000.
- [Ryan] It's not bad.

Sarah, what would you
like to see happen?

- [Sarah] Sort of dark inside.
- [Ryan] Mm-Hmm.

[Sarah] There's not
a whole lot of natural light

and there's definitely not that
many windows facing the lake.

So I think that would
definitely be a priority.

- The kitchen in pretty dated.
- [Ashley] Okay.

So I would love to see
some kitchen magic.

-[Ryan] Yeah. Love the kitchen.
-And you know.

I mean the bedrooms
are decent sized like,

I think the layout is decent, it
just needs to be like, brightened up.

So, we want
this camp finished in...

- Oh!
- It's a timeline.

- let's say 12 weeks.
- What?

- [Sarah] What?
- Coney math, that's spring.

- Twelve weeks?
- Twelve weeks is a long time.

I know, you get, that's winter.

[Ryan] By the river
there's a bad road.

If we get some sun it'd take
us a while to get down in here.

[Ashley] I don't know
if this is doable.

[laughs]

- Chase.
- This is doable.

We can definitely
get it done in 12 weeks

and $40,000
it's just the right amount

to get done
what you're looking for.

So, we'll do what we can,
and we just need a set of keys.

I don't have any.

I am looking forward to a
place that we can come to

and, you know,
remember her on purpose

while we're having
an amazing time.

[Chase] First thing we're gonna
do on the exterior of the camp

is we're going to remove
the old oil tank,

all new skirting around the camp,
new pine siding, new windows,

bigger windows on the
waterside, new entry doors.

We'll have Francis come in, do a
drip edge and an overall spring cleanup.

[Ryan] Oh.

She does need a little bit
of an update, doesn't she?

I mean it's just dated,
it doesn't...

it's not in bad condition,
it's just dated.

You know, decent size bedrooms.

[Ryan] That's a huge bedroom.

[Ashley]
That is a big bedroom.

[Chase] On the interior of the camp
we are going to lighten up the camp

by adding windows
on the waterside,

new floors, new walls,
new electrical, new plumbing.

Get the kitchen cabinets
and countertop in place,

vault the ceiling
and new heating system.

I'm excited
to do this for Sarah.

[Ryan] Taking down
the bones and clean it up.

We had to deal with Mimi Eva's
state, which involved a condo,

so we loaded up the van,
bought a trailer.

We're driving down to Florida
to load up some stuff.

[Ashley] Make sure you
bring back some pictures...

[Chase] Some good stuff
to incorporate into this.

[Ashley] She probably has all
kinds of memorabilia from our trips.

We get the kids involved,
so we need to talk to them

and see what they'd like to
do and if they want to help.

Let's call the guys

So, the kids and I took, you know,
did a road trip down to Florida.

So, as you can see it's an
awesome view of the water.

You got the Atlantic Ocean
right there,

you've got the inlet over there.

[Chase] Our van is loaded.

Our trailer is loaded.

It's back to Maine soon,
we're getting a snowstorm,

so we're gonna make sure
we get up there before that.

It's gonna be sad
to leave this place but...

I think it's time.

[Sarah] We have been
in this car forever.

Eva, lift it.

[man] It smells like
it's from the 80's.

[Ashley] Doesn't it?

I don't know what smells like.

- Fireplace work?
- Set a fire.

[Chase] It was built in the 80's and
its had a few face lifts over the years

but it's ready for major
updates and, you know,

bring it up to code and also
just more energy efficient.

Cut down the draft,
new electrical

and really take advantage
of the water view.

[wood cracks]

[Ryan] Yeah.

[Chase] Biggest reservation
about getting

into the insulation
and the ceiling

is just the mess
that it's gonna make.

[wood cracks]

[everyone] Oh!

[tiles cracks]

It's a big debate about whether
to tear the ceiling tiles down

or to leave them up.

[sighs]

I mean I can see
on both sides, um...

if it was mine,
I would probably leave them,

just because it's very,
very, very messy and nasty.

All right, here we go.
It's like Christmas.

Hope a bunch of blow-in
insulation doesn't come out.

I feel like Heraldo
with a vault.

[laughs]

Who does that? Come on.

We're here at the Morrill
camp, we're finishing up

the last-minute demolition
right now.

Got everybody tearing
down all the walls,

getting all the old
insulation out of here

and one last piece
of the demolition puzzle

is are we gonna rip
the ceiling out or not?

Hope a bunch of blow-in
insulation doesn't come out.

Chase thought
about saving the ceiling,

he thought about it hard.

Oh, I see, I see something.

I'm sure to learn
our lesson by now,

but we always try to save it.

I see a lot of space.

I see a little bit of blow-in
insulation and some fiberglass.

We got up there and poked
around in those wires coming

under the existing ceiling
and between the strapping

so we were to put
new ceilings on there,

we would've probably driven
a nail or two through them,

that would've been a nightmare.

Toilet's froze...
Toilet's froze solid.

Winter's here.

I didn't winterize it because
I knew we're gonna be in here

ripping apart and I knew all the
plumbing was coming out anyways,

but I wasn't worried
about some frozen pipes.

Oh, little frozen poopsicles
falling out.

[Ryan] This thing is pretty much
almost down to the frame now.

We found all kinds of holes
in the exterior siding.

We found spots where there's a little
more mouse poop than we thought.

We even found
some damaged areas,

so it's good to take it
right back and start fresh.

[Ashley] How is it going?

I haven't been here since
the first day I was here.

Oh, yeah.
It's empty if you wanna...

I got some fabrics
I picked out and I wanna see,

just take a peek,
start getting some ideas.

- Yeah.
- Wanna give me tour?

- Show me what's going on.

[Ashley] Today I'm stopping
by the Morrill cabin.

I picked up some fabrics, some
oranges and greys and tans

and I want to bring them up
to the cabin

and hopefully
they have enough done

so I can see if these colors
are gonna work.

So these are my fabrics.

Oh, look.

Look at the white and the grey.

I'm gonna turn these
into throw pillows and such.

Oh yeah, look.
Maybe even some curtains.

Yeah.

And then, and then I'll go on and
see this lady who does hook rugging,

or you can make
throw pillows out of it.

So, Mimi Eva
when she passed away,

she told us her spirit animal
is an elephant,

so I thought, you know, obviously I
don't wanna go over the top with elephants

but I thought we could just have
one, like nice elephant pillow.

- [Chase] Yeah.
- Now, look, this's gonna be great.

All these colors are gonna
match up nicely with the grey walls.

Woo-hoo!

I love getting
discounted fabrics.

I'm excited cause' the walls
are gonna stay the same.

It's a nice, you know,
grey washed wall.

It will go great with the
fabrics that I've chosen.

So, at this point I just have
to wait for the guys

to get more work done.

Today I'm in West Paris.

I am going to meet Beth at Parris
House Wool Works, she does rug hooking.

- Hello?
- [Beth] Hi, Ashley.

[Ashley] Hi, Beth.

- How are you?
- Great.

It's a beautiful drive up here.

- It's so nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you as well.

- This is where you do the work.
- [Beth] It is!

[Ashley] I'm so excited
to see everything.

The cabin for Sarah, I wanted
to bring in something special,

something that's gonna
remind her of her mother

and Beth does these beautiful
hook rug pillows, so

I figured this pillow would be
a nice way of memorialize her.

The basic tools are gonna be
your rug hooking frame,

your hook and a pair of snips.

- Three tools.
- Three tools.

- That's--
- Yeah, it's really simple.

- That's so simple.
- Yeah, it is, it's simple.

I say that now.

The walls on the cabin
are grey already,

so I just kinda ran with that.

We're using greys and oranges.

I like the way
they look together.

The orange is bright and cheery.

For Sarah, it's gonna be a great,
you know, reminder of her mother,

just to see
that little elephant.

[Beth] It's important to know
that if you pull this way,

- you might pull the loop behind it out.
- [Ashley] Oh yeah.

[Beth]
Now, I'm hooking straight down

one of the grains of the linen,
which is not what we're gonna do

to complete this piece,
but it just kinda gives you

a chance to get into that motion

of pulling the loops
before we tackle a curve.

First thing Elizabeth did was she
dyed the wool before I got there.

She matched the colors of
the fabrics I send her a picture of

and then she cuts into strips
kinda like, you know, fettuccini,

little strips of fettuccini
but not really, it's wool.

And then she drew
out the design,

traced it
onto the piece of linen,

and then put it onto the frame.

I really appreciate
you're doing this for us,

I appreciate you're
taking the time to teach me

and I'm gonna go home
and I'm gonna practice

and I'll show you
my finished results.

I can't wait to see it.

I don't think that
I am the best at hooking

but I'm gonna go home
and practice

because I can see myself
really getting into this.

[Chase] Perfect!

[Chase] Week three in
Monmouth, on Annabessacook Lake

and today the big thing is getting
the oil tank moved out of the way.

- Oh!
- [man] What's going on?

Is it tight?
Against the building?

It really is gonna take
some brute strength

and we're gonna try and get
the truck as close as we can to it,

slide it into the back of it,

then that allows the guys to
get the cement out of the way

and to get all the skirting
prepped and ready to put metal

around the perimeter
to get ready for siding.

- Stay calm.
- [man] Yeah.

-Oh, watch that valve,
-That leak's going.

We have a kerosene monitor
that we took out,

but the oil tank was there,
it still had some left in it,

so we're just gonna load it
into the truck

and shift it out of the way.

Whoa!

[laughs]

[Chase] Whoa!

Up, up and away.

[Jedi] We're here
week three on Annabessacook.

Beautiful,
beautiful winter day here,

it's about 12 degrees with
probably a 20, 30 mile an hour wind.

[man speaking]

[Chase] Nice.

[Jedi] Good.

I got a big storm coming in
so our main focus today

is get the bottom skirt metal
all wrapped up

and then we can get
our siding done.

We'll get some pressure
treated plywood,

we're replacing those bad panels

and then we're just
gonna cover them with metal.

The plywood around
the skirt of the camp,

was just mostly rotten
from backsplash.

There, in the back corner,
there was an oil tank there

so water was just
coming off the roof,

splashing off in the oil tank
and right onto the wood.

We got the siding all stacked
up, pre stained, ready to go.

Today we are gonna work
on this backside,

getting it prepped and ready which
mean running our corner boards,

running our metal below,
chalking our lines

so that we know
where we can build up from.

We've got a little bit more
on the outside to do that way,

but one siding's up,
we should be good to go.

So on the inside,
Ryan got in here,

he did get
the ceiling pulled down.

We got a larger kitchen window
looking out over the water.

Doug's here today
working on the plumbing

and the bathroom,
we enlarged that space.

And again, on the wiring, all
the new insulation throughout.

In the main living space, we
were able to vault the ceilings

to match right
across the whole way

and we are ready
for pine ceilings walls,

which really uh,
brighten up the place.

[Ryan] Go ahead and snap it.

We've been lucky enough
we have a huge crew now,

but you know, there's many days
when it's just Dixie, Jedi, Chase and I,

cause' when it's just the four
of us we can crane.

We've all worked with each other for,
you know, the last ten years straight.

[Ashley] Morning!

Whenever she's here,
she gives us a laugh

and it makes the day go by
quicker and it breaks the day out,

it's kind of perfect.

[Jedi] I thought we were going with
an elephant theme here with grey,

now we're brown.

No, the interior, we're
gonna have a lot of greys.

The accent wall is grey.

Here, last piece for the side.

for the window?

You have a different
type of corner cabinet?

[Chase] I've got the dimensions

and I've got this guy down
in Portland, Joe Seremeth,

who does a lot
of cabinetry work.

Sent him the measurements and
he's gonna make something to fit it.

[Ryan] How long have
you been doing plumbing?

Since 87'.

[Ryan] Have you ever done
a sink in a corner?

Hey, let me draw it out for you.

I was pretty surprised to see a corner sink,
so I'm trying to wrap my head around that.

- Be like this.
- Oh.

- That's probably like a--
- That's about five feet...

and the sink
it's an undermount sink.

[Ryan] Cool.

[Chase] And then the stove
will be right here.

And then there'll be a
small section of countertop...

- [Ryan] Nice.
- [Chase] ...right there.

And then that frees up all that
space you could have a table here.

[Ryan] Everything Chase
does works out and afterwards

I'm like, "I see it."

But a lot of times I'm like,
"What the heck is he doing?"

But only Chase would get
a free countertop

and then buy $1,000 cabinets
to put under it.

[Jedi] We stick here
at the Morrill camp.

Beautiful spring day.

We're not wishing away
winter just yet,

but it's warming up
and it's really nice.

Our front door finally came in,

so we were able to rip out
the old door, rip off the old trim

just to see
what we were working with.

Fortunately, we haven't had
to deal with too much rot here,

one little spot in the backside,

but now we're finding, we've
got rot here on this front door.

Week six, we've got rot here
on this front door.

I would assume mainly the
weather coming off the lake,

getting the front of the cabin

creates a lot of moisture
right out front.

So, what we're gonna do is
we're gonna cut all these bad,

we're gonna get rid
of all this rotten plywood.

We'll be able to fill
this right back in,

we'll use a little bit
of pressure treated.

It's gonna last a lot longer.

And then,
once we get this patched in,

we'll be able to put our
door in and close it off.

Today we're at Woodlab's
to meet Joe Seremeth,

he's going to make the cabinets
for our camp in Monmouth.

- Good morning.
- [Joe] Hey, Chase.

- How is it going?
- Good, how is it going?

- [Joe] Welcome to Woodlab.

[Chase] Nice place.

You know,
this is a unique situation.

We've got the countertop
and it's got a corner sink,

so it's hard to find used cabinets
or salvaged cabinets to fit.

So, we modeled up your,
your little kitchen here.

We're trying to figure
out how to get that

inside corner
sink area dialed in.

[Chase] So you're not
worried about it?

- No.
- Oh, good. Fantastic.

- I don't really worry about any of this stuff.
- Fantastic.

No way.

On most of our cabins
that we do, you know,

I show up with a set
of used cabinets, and say,

"Dixie make this work."

In this situation, I showed
Joe and, you know, I was like,

"We've got this countertop,
make the cabinets fit"

and he's got the technology
and the know how to do that.

What else do you
really need from me?

I mean, really nothing.

You've given me
all the dimension

and now we'll just finalize
our little design and make it.

[Chase] It's my wife's camp.

She will be thrilled to see,
you know, such a nice kitchen.

I don't think she necessarily
expects this from me.

[laughs]

[Joe] Yeah. Yeah.

So, yeah, I really appreciate
you guys working with us

- and just let me know when it's ready.
- [Joe] Okay, we will.

Joe and Spencer were able to design
the cabinet layout on the computer

and they've got a
manufacturing shop right there

so they can do custom work
which really will help us make

the cabinets fit with the
countertop and fit in the space.

[Jedi] It's week six
and the wind is howling,

it is negative
five degrees out here.

Winter has not gone yet, so we
shifted all our forces to the inside.

We got our loads of uh,
sheathing yesterday,

so we're just putting up
the pine on the inside,

playing a little game with dice.

I don't really wanna dump on
Chase's idea of color scheme, but...

Chase gave us three different
colors of sheathing boards

and told us to
put them up at random,

well, there's more
than random colors.

There's just random sizes,
random widths stuff

is kind of all over the place.

If he would've sit here
and try to figure out

how many blue pieces
you have at three feet,

how many blue pieces you have
at eight feet and how many brown

and, it's just, you'd be here
all day scratching your head

and he would look back
and he'd be like,

"My pattern look stupid."

So, in order to mix these up,
we're gonna roll the dice.

I've got a "W"
for white on one side.

I've got a "B"
for blue on the other side,

and I've got a darkened
for brown on the other.

So, anytime anybody
is bringing us a board,

they're just gonna roll the
dice, go in and grab them.

We're gonna hold
on the measurement.

I need a white!

The dice never lie.

[tool sawing]

Sarah and I love funky design
and I'll save money.

We had some leftover sheathing
from in the original camp,

we reused that,
but all the new stuff

we decide to go
with some funky colors.

We wanna see what Matt and Jedi
and his crew can do with the mix of colors.

Loving the way the kitchen's
coming out, looks really good.

I was a little skeptical
on the color pattern,

what we're gonna have
for a pattern

where it was gonna fall,
what it was gonna look like.

But once we've got it all up
and it's randomized,

I think it looks pretty good.

[Jedi] We are down to the
wire, week and a half have to go.

Last week we were
on the 40's and 50's,

you know, half of us
wearing t-shirts working,

you know, doing
some sidenote here but uh,

only a matter of days
and temp dropped on us.

Lot of our stuff done, so we
can concentrate on the floors now.

Floors generally one of
the last things you wanna do

just cause' you don't wanna
put it down there,

have nice new floors
and mess them all up.

So, Scott and I
are getting started here,

getting that laid down,
locked in proper.

Once that's laid down, we can start
in and we can floor this place out.

When you first block
into a room,

a room will always look bigger if you
run your floors lengthwise with the room,

so I wanted to get
that first run

all the way down the kitchen,
all through the hallway

and into the living room,
as my main starting course.

And then I can take it
in both directions,

get into the bedrooms,
get into the kitchen,

get into the living room
with all on the same course

and not have the floors
chopped off all over the place.

[Ashley] Come on, best friends.

Today, Chase and I
are at the workshop

and the kids are gonna join us
to make cool art pieces

to remind us of Mimi Eva and to
show Sarah how much we love her.

I mean, Mimi Eva,
we all know loves birds,

so we were just thinking to...
we do something nice

to remember Mimi Eva
for the camp. For your mother.

- Aw.
- [Fletcher] Yes.

So now, look at these all of your
memories from the trip to get inspired.

[Chase] Four big trips,
South Africa, Italy,

Guadalupe, and Costa Rica.

So we can come up with four
fish and birds, one for each trip.

The kids have been asking
constantly how progress is going,

they wanna be involved

so we figured this is great
way to get them involved

but still keep the camp
a surprise for them as well.

- Fletcher and I will work together.
- Okay.

I'll work with these two.

- [Chase] Mimi and Eva, you two work together.
- Oh, no!

[Ashley] We invited
my mother as well,

cause' she's been
in all these trips with us

and, you know, she loved
Mimi Eva just as much.

You guys have South Africa,
you guys have what?

- You guys go Guadalupe?
- Oh, Guadalupe.

[Chase] What trip do you want?

Italy.

With the four big trips as inspiration,
we decided to split in groups.

I'm just gonna do
Costa Rica by myself.

What, we want a big board,
do we want this little...

Look, we've got these two,
Fletcher.

So, what's our plan?
This, we can make that an eye.

I think it's beautiful.

Does it need a nose,
does fish have nose?

Absolutely.

I am trying to think
outside the box.

And what I really wanna do
I think is take this chain

and cut it and then kinda have
it going on top of it, maybe?

I think that might be
kinda cool.

Does it has to be
a fish or a bird

or can it just be an abstract?

- No, Ashley!
- No, it has to be an actual fish or a bird!

Okay.

I don't really have any sort
of plan for this project,

I knew Chase had something in
mind and I knew he had a ton of stuff.

Fletcher!

[Chase] Most of that stuff is
just stuff cleaned out of my truck,

cleaned out of basements,
cleaned out of houses.

So it's good use
of just random junk.

Every time I have a project
with you guys, Chase leaves us.

[Chase] Kids are
extremely creative,

they gotta warm up, you
gotta pull it out of them a little bit

to get excited
but, they're gonna have fun,

be creative and come with something
special to remember Mimi Eva.

- Is everyone done?

a bunch of times

and with wind whipping off the
lake, we really feel it right here.

I heard that it's collapsed,
so I was just coming out

to help you guys pick it up.

[Ashley] So, Chase's makeshift
garage fell down and collapsed,

things took a turn for the worse

and we had to remove
all the stakes.

Somebody screwed them in.

- [Chase] Yeah.

So you just gotta go

I love it.

The random color siding, it
wouldn't been my first choice

but then, once I was
in there, I really loved it.

I know this is Chase
and Sarah's style.

a place for them.

[Chase] The big goals today
is to get the kitchen installed,

get Doug to finish up the
plumbing and do a good clean up.

I had the countertop,
and it was pretty unique

because it had a corner sink,
brought it down to Joe

and he was able to design kind
of what we needed on the cab,

manufacturing it
in his workshop.

He brought it up today
and, you know,

he's helping us
getting it installed.

Sometimes my brother-in-law
thinks he's saving money,

but he doesn't realize
it might cost some more,

but that corner
countertop he got

actually costs us
a lot of time and money.

[Ashley] He saved money on
the walls. The walls look great.

[Ryan] But he had custom
cabinets made for free countertops.

[Ashley] I know,
but this is just total Chase.

But the thing is that that's one thing
that Mimi Eva loved about Chase

his building style
and his frugalness,

and his way
that he reused the sink.

So this is totally up
Mimi Eva and Sarah's style.

[Ryan] Let me put this
in Ashley terms.

- [Ashley] Don't you think?
- This is like getting free tires and rims

and then buy a car for them.

So hot kitchen right there.

[Ashley] It's gonna be awesome
when we stay here, Ryan.

I can't have a kink in
that new dishes.

Yeah, we'll be doing dishes,
cooking, looking out the window.

to use all of her art

and her decorations and
everything to decorate the cabin.

Her condo was in Florida, it

but I definitely wanna
bring in some Maine to it.

When I'm stuck with any sort of design
decision, Gus always has the right answer.

So we're having the elephant

He knows what colors I like,

he's just overall the best
assistant a girl could ask for.

Gussy and I decided where we're
gonna put all these sculptures.

putting a big window.

And we were able to get
all the kitchen on this side.

new cabinets from your husband?

I wasn't expecting

Kitchen's amazing,
the cabinets are beautiful,

and the countertop
is just stunning.

All of the paintings
