You know, really
the past, the present,

and the future is
just one big cycle.

And I believe, as most
Buddhists and Hindus believe,

that it's us coming
back, you know?

Like our kid, it's something
you did, God knows when,

but you're doin' it again.

I feel so privileged
and fortunate,

a million people would
want to be up there

and I'm getting to do it
and I feel real lucky.

Oh, it means a lot to me.

I'm very proud, you know, to
be a part of it, you know,

to express my feelings
about his music, you know,

by singing his song.

George gave to
musicians and idea

that you can be a
spiritual rock and roller.

The two do mix.

I think he gets credited

with being positive and
accepting and all that.

But some of his lyrics
wer elike, dang!

I mean, he's, you know,
he doesn't hold back.

That's what makes stuff good.

Just his ability
to do what he did

next to the monster that
is Lennon and McCartney,

and to still be able to
succeed the way that he did.

That's inspirational, I think
for me, in a lot of ways.

He's such a
craftsman on the guitar

that he intimidates to this day.

How y'all doin'?

Is this amazing, this is great!

I want to apologize,

I was told this was a
tribute to George Michael.

I spent a week learning
the song "Faith."

So I apologize.

They said, let's put the comic
on first, give him a guitar,

that will set the bar
really freaking low.

And everyone else is going
to sound amazing, all right?

It's not a George original,

but a lot of us, you know,
that were born in maybe,

in the era that I was
born, I was born 1981,

that may have been the first
introduction to any Beatle.

'Cause I think it
was you the mid 80s

when that was a huge hit.

And so I think, you know,

that could have been the first
time I heard a Beatle sing.

I don't think
there's any musician,

singer, artist out there who

could deny the impact of
George Harrison, you know?

And also there's something
for me personally,

that sets him apart from
so many other greats,

because he just has this deeper
connection to his existence

that I think really
permeates through the music.

He was able to infuse his
songs with a really subtle,

beautiful sense of spirituality

that I think very, very
few other people did.

A lot of people got heavy
handed about it, you know,

but George was just perfect.

It's just like
he's omnipresent.

His energy, his
spirit, in many ways.

George is the father
of building that bridge

between popular culture
and an Eastern conscious,

certainly made it more
accessible, certainly for me.

George took it
to the next level

and actually created a
beautiful anthem, I think,

in "My Sweet Lord."

And to hear Brian articulate
it was really touching to me.

It was actually Brian
who introduced all of us

in the very beginning
to meditation.

Brian's way ahead of
the curve, [chuckles]

let's put it that way.

So he's the perfect person
to sing the song I think.

Well, I always liked him
when he was in the Beatles.

And then I heard "My Sweet
Lord" I just about croaked.

I couldn't believe
it's one of the most

unbelievable piece of
music I've ever heard.

George, I cannot tell
you how much your music

has meant to me, you know,
and it's an honor to sing it.

It's great to be here!

The reason I chose
the song "Be Here Now,"

'cause it's not the
flashiest song and it's not,

you know, the hit, but
for me spiritually,

it's the moment when he
really had that awakening

of like being present
in the present moment

and that's everything and the
material world not working

as a construct to keep the ego
together, it just not enough.

Come on!

All right!

Come on, everybody!

I never thought about what
our generation is capable of

and how much they actually
appreciated his music,

and everyone does.

L.A. has got such a
good pool of musicians.

I'm really glad
we're doing it here.

You know, my old man
passed away in L.A,

it's the last place
I ever saw him.

I've been reduced to tears
several times this week

by unexpected performances.

To get it right, you
know, you could get up there

and do a hack version of it,
but if you wanna do it justice

in a way that you can only
hope would make him proud,

you gotta put the time in

because there is
rhythmic intricacies

that play off of
vocal intricacies.

And by the way, George is one of

the five greatest slide
guitar players of all time.

I mean, I spent the
better part of a week

working on that
slide line alone.

I said to Dhani, it's like,
the thing that's gonna happen

is all these kids are gonna
walk away better songwriters

for diving into this material
and learning George's process

of harmony and chords and lyrics

and beautiful
melodies and playing.

I think it's really healthy
to do these kinds of things

to sort of remember
where it came from.

He certainly wrote
a lot of great riffs.

I stole this Beatles
for easy guitar book

and that's basically how I
learned how to play guitar

was just because
I knew the songs

so I could kind of play along

and strum and sing to these
very easy versions of the tune.

What's exciting is you get
to see that the repertoire

and the accumulation
of so much good music,

and it's impressive to
see what some of these,

you know, the giants have done.

Beautiful California sun!

One of the things
that really struck me

was his sense of humor.

He wrote some of the
most twisted songs

in the Beatles' body of work.

You know, it really kind of
struck responsive chord with me

and I always thought he was,
you know, just extremely cool.

It isn't just music, I
mean it's a way of being,

it's a way of, you know,
what you want to say.

I mean, I don't know
about everybody else,

but I just kinda jumped
for joy the whole time,

even if I'm it up, you know,

it's like, look, we
get to play these songs

and no one's stopping it.

There is a real
sense of legacy

that is respected,
you know, and Dhani,

he's just such a strong,
profoundly beautiful individual

and he really carries
the spirit of his father

in such a genuine and
very longing way as well.

You can tell that
Dhani obviously

profoundly misses his
father and these things,

like what we're doing today,

also really just connects him
to the spirit of his father.
