We're gonna play
with your baby, okay?

The rhino baby was born finally.

Kidogo is doing great.

I'm so glad the wait is over.

18 months is a long time.

Baby doesn't have a name,

so we've been calling it
her K-Baby, or Baby-K.

Today we're going to creep
with the baby,

which means baby's gonna
have access to mom,

but she can also come over
to us if she wants,

and start the bonding now.

Are you guys ready?

AMANDA: Yup.

CHRISTI: I mean, this is
going to be a lot of fun.

Who wouldn't want to play
with a baby rhino?

But there is so much more
than just playing with her.

This is the first step
in her training.

We're going to start building
the trust we need,

so we have that when
she's a 4,000-pound adult.

It's been like right around
two weeks since she was born,

and she's probably put on
50 or 60 pounds already.

So we'll have Kidogo
in the birthing stall.

Our team will on
the empty stall.

I just cracked the door
a little bit,

so baby can fit through
but mama cannot,

'cause that would be bad.

Baby can come hang out
with us if she wants,

and if she doesn't want to,

she wants to go back by mom,
she can.

Come here, little baby.

This is the really big moment.

This is the payoff.

This is why I do what I do.

WOMAN: Hi, peanut!
CHRISTI: Hi!

CHRISTI: Come here, honey.

Relationship building
is a critical step.

ASHLEY: Hi, cutie pie.

CHRISTI: Everything we do
is trust based,

so I need to have
that foundation set.

So, down the line,
if I ask them to draw blood,

or I ask them to do
an ultrasound,

or if there is an emergency,

we have that relationship.

AMANDA: Ooh, going for the butt.

This is the best day of my life,

LEAH: She's like, oh, yup,
that's the spot.

CHRISTI: Mom! (laughs)

AMANDA: This is like
the best part, though,

'cause then she has the zoomies.

CHRISTI: Look at me!
I'm gonna run.

AMANDA: Rhino zoomies
are the best.

CHRISTI: (laughs) Oh. Wow!

BLAYNE: Whoa!

AMANDA: You're a little ham.

ASHLEY: I'm gonna show off.
Oh, my gosh.

AMANDA: That was awesome.

CHRISTI: That went really well.

All that we need now is a name,
so we know what to call her.

MIKE: Safari Africa is
one of the most popular

areas of the zoo.

(elephant trumpets)

ARINN: We're coming up
on our rhino habitat.

MIKE: It's home
to over 25 species,

which include elephants,
rhinos and giraffe.

WOMAN: I know!

MIKE: A lot of these species
share habitats, which is cool,

because that's how
they live in the wild.

ASHLEY: Hi, Randall!
You're so handsome.

What are you boys doing?

KATHERINE: How are you?

You want the fresh stuff?

Yeah.

We are going to feed
our yellow-backed duikers.

Hi, Lily girl, how are you?

We have three
yellow-backed duikers.

Lily, Jasper,
and JJ is their son.

So, the duikers are from Africa.

ALISON: Good job, you guys.

They're called
yellow-backed duiker

from that really characteristic
yellow hair on the back of them.

KATHERINE: This is
a mixed habitat,

so we have two different species
that live together.

So, we have
the yellow-backed duiker

and we also have
our patas monkey.

ALISON: You guys ready
to go out?

Patas monkeys are a species
that you would find in Africa.

Here we go!

KATHERINE: We have five of them.

Wilson is our only adult male.

We have Reba, we have Baby June,
who is Aza's daughter,

and then we also have Dolly.

We usually tell them apart

by some of the coloration
on their face.

So, when you look at their noses

they kinda have a little bit
of white and black,

and we're able
to tell them apart

because each of them is
a little bit different.

Each group does their own thing
throughout the day.

Are you ready for breakfast?

Here's some breakfast for you.

Well, it looks like the patas

are enjoying their breakfast,
so I think we're good.

Great roommates.

I mean, they're able to
live together really well.

We have noticed
some changes in Reba.

She's looking
a little bit bigger.

So we do think she's expecting,

and we're kind of on baby watch
right now, watching her.

Typically with patas we're not
going to see signs of pregnancy

until it's close to
their birth window.

Patas babies are some
of the cutest baby monkeys,

you can see, and I can't wait.

(chirping)

DANNY: Alright, let's find
a nice ripe piece.

There we go.

Oh, yeah,
this will be a good one.

Alright, Gomez,
you want some star fruit?

Ooh.

Gomez really, really
likes star fruit.

It's one of his favorite fruits.

That's some good stuff.

Gomez is a blue and gold macaw.

He is 29 years old.

He's really beautiful.

He has those nice
blues and golds.

They're native to South America,

and he is a great ambassador
for his species.

He's a handsome man.

So here at Zoo Tampa we have
over 500 birds under our care,

and about 80 of them are
living inside the main aviary.

The main aviary is
over 20 feet high,

and it's got lots of room
for them to fly,

so it's like you're walking
into an actual rain forest.

What a good boy.

Our keepers have noticed
that Gomez has a big swelling

on the right side of his face,
a little bit below the jaw line,

and he also has this
red mark on his face.

RACHAEL: You can see it.

DANNY: Let's go, Gomez!

It could possibly be
an air sac issue,

or it could be
something even worse.

So we're going to have him get
checked out by a veterinarian.

I know, nobody really likes
going to the doctor.

Good boy!

RYAN: Hello, Gomez.
DANNY: Hi, guys.

DR. NICO: Hey. What's going on
with you, buddy?

Alright, you got him?

TESSA: Mm-hm.
(squawking)

DANNY: You can definitely see it
on the right side.

DR. NICO: Oh, yeah.

Let me listen to his heart,
make sure that it...

(squawk)

Da da da da da da. (laughs)
We're in good shape.

DANNY: Me, too. (laughs)

DR. NICO: One, two, three.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead
and anesthetize Gomez.

It's gonna be a lot easier
to feel his neck.

Doing the things awake
and him fighting you

is not beneficial for him.

Mr. Gomez, what happened to you?

He feels good.
I don't feel a mass.

There's no lumps
or anything like that.

You can see this is all air.

I think this is air sac, guys.

Birds have these little
pouches of air, or sacs,

to be lighter and
to be more efficient

with their respiratory system.

I am concerned
that this could be

a possible respiratory problem.

But this could also be trauma.

Let's do the x-rays on him.

(beeping)

This is Gomez naked.

(laughs)

This is his head.

Nothing too exciting
in there that I can see.

Pretty normal bird x-rays
right now.

My gut feeling is that he hurt
his face, probably playing with,

or bickering with one
of the other cage mates.

I could easily see
bickering among each other,

push and get out of my perch,
and now he has a swollen neck.

Here we go, I know.

TESSA: There we go, bud.

DANNY: Good morning.

TESSA: Hi, Gomez.

DR. NICO: So we're gonna put him
on some medications,

some anti-inflammatories,

and we're going to see
if this resolves on its own.

TESSA: Hi, handsome.

DANNY: We're gonna make sure
that the swelling

actually goes down, and that
red mark goes away, too.

TESSA: See his little eyeballs
coming to life.

DANNY: He's like, "I'm done".

(squawk)

KP: We have six elephants
here at Zoo Tampa.

We're very interested in doing
research with our herd.

Not only is it really enriching
for the elephants,

it also gives us
a really good look

into their social relationships
with each other.

This is the first study
with African elephants

to ever prove that they're
capable of cooperation.

Can two elephants
figure out a novel task

that they have never seen
before in their lives?

MIKE: Dust off the old sled.

KP: The sled actually has
a rope that's fed through it.

So they have to come over
and pull on that rope,

to pull it close to them
to get that reward.

If I'm pulling on this rope
and he doesn't hold on to it,

it's just going to
completely unthread.

If we both pull, and it's gonna
bring all the way towards them.

This project has been like
three years in the making.

As a herd species,
these guys are gonna spend

90% of their lives together.

So we know that they're going
to have to communicate,

and there has to be some level
of cooperation there.

But we don't necessarily know

to what extent that
happens in the wild.

(trumpets)

MIKE: It's new, it's novel,
it's exciting.

The task itself is a blast and
they have so much fun with it.

MADISON: This is Matjeka.

Back. (whistle tweets)
Good girl.

MIKE: You guys ready for Mpumi?

CHRISTI: Yup.

KP: Today we're pairing
Matjeka and Mpumi.

(whistle tweets)

MADISON: There she is!

Hi!

KP: This is the second time ever
they've done this task together.

Matjeka is a 29-year-old female.

If you have her favorite treats,
that's the way to her heart.

Mpumi, a little bit younger,
seven years old.

Matjeka is not her mother,
so she is a little bit hesitant.

But Matjeka can't be
successful without Mpumi.

MIKE: Okay, nobody trip
on the line.

KP: When we first started
this cooperation study,

we had no idea if the elephants
would even pass one time.

They need to cooperate
to be successful.

We have sweet potatoes, bananas,
some melons, oranges.

BRANDI: You're gonna do
such a good job.

KP: They both get
to share something,

or they both get nothing.

BRANDI: One, two, three.

BRANDI: Go!
CHRISTI: Go!

(whistle tweets)

KP: Elephants are
incredibly intelligent.

We decided to do
a cognitive study.

They both have to pull
on the rope at the same time

to bring that sled within reach,

so that they both
can get a reward.

BRANDI: Go!
CHRISTI: Go!

KP: That was awesome!

MIKE: Awesome. Mpumi's a champ.

CHRISTI: Good girl.

MIKE: An elephant
never forgets, right?

KP: It was really amazing.

The first time that they
cooperated, we wanted to cry.

It was just
a really beautiful moment,

and we just didn't expect it.

But we would like to see
a 7 out of 10 or even higher

to consider this a success.

CHRISTI: Go!
BRANDI: Go!

MIKE: Matjeka got to the rope
before Mpumi did,

so that would be
their first failure.

That just knocked
their score down to 50%.

KP: No one gets any treats
for that trial.

They're gonna have to reset.

MIKE: For Matjeka, she has
the ability to turn around,

and with her trunk she can reach
out and get the rope right away.

Mpumi, on the other hand,

has to take three or four steps
to get the rope.

BRANDI: Go!
CHRISTI: Go!

MIKE: That's awesome.

BRANDI: Good job, Matjeka.

KP: We've seen with
this cooperation study

how the elephants are
learning all the time,

and this could give us
a lot bigger picture

as how two elephants
communicate in the wild.

BRANDI: Good job!

MIKE: Elephants are
great problem solvers.

They're good at troubleshooting.

There's like so much taking
place between the elephants

that we don't even,
like, comprehend.

I'm sure Matjeka and Mpumi are
constantly in communication.

BRANDI: Go!
CHRISTI: Go!

KP: Oh!

BRANDI: She missed it?

KP: So she tried a new strategy
and it did not work out.

MADISON: That was number eight.
We have two left.

CHRISTI: Go!
BRANDI: Go!

MADISON: They're doing
really well.

(whistle tweets)

KP: Professionals.

MADISON: 8 out of 10, not bad.

KP: 80%.

BRANDI: I am so proud
of you right now.

KP: Today's score for trial two
is 8 out of 10.

It's better than the 70%
they got last time.

So hopefully there's definitely
some learning going into it.

MIKE: So we've got two trials
down and now one to go.

MADISON: So, they got
a 10% improvement.

So hopefully next time
we can hope for 100.

MIKE: I like that. 100's good.

MADISON: Let's do it.

Hello everyone!

This is Lorenzo.

He's our two-toed
Linnaeus sloth.

♪ ♪

I've worked with Lorenzo
for a little over six months.

He was one of the first animals
that I started working with

when I joined our ambassador
team here at Zoo Tampa.

What are you doing?

(laughs)

He's very stubborn,
which is what I love about him.

And he moves on sloth time.

We actually had another sloth
on this tree,

so it looks like her smell
is way more reinforcing

than the flowers
that we left for him.

So many smells.

Lorenzo is going to be leaving
our ambassador program.

He's going to go hang out with
a very beautiful female, Chloe,

who is another
two-toed Linnaeus sloth

that we have here at Zoo Tampa.

So Lorenzo and Chloe
have been matched to breed

through our
Species Survival Plan

and do their part
in conservation.

So hopefully Zoo Tampa will be
seeing some sloth babies.

What are you--

You can see that
he is very much built

to walk in a tree upside down.

He's not made to walk
on the ground like this,

which is why he looks so strange
as he's crawling around.

RONI: There you go, good job!

LAURYN: You ready
to go home, Lorenzo?

RONI: He's like,
"Where's my girlfriend?"

CHRIS: Am I coming to you
or are you coming to me?

MIKE: I can't hear you,
the tractor!

CHRIS: Usually we have
a team full of people.

Yeah, today we are
pretty short-staffed.

Mike and I said that's fine,

we'll jump in and
we'll handle things.

MIKE: We've barely scratched
the surface here.

Chris is already sweating.

We've still got
a ton more to do.

DR. LAUREN: This is not
something you see every day.

Chris out there shoveling poop.

DANIELA: That's Reba.

DR. LAUREN: That's Reba?
TIFFANY: Yeah.

JANE: This afternoon Reba didn't
come up for her banana,

like she usually does.

And she looks
like she's in labor,

and so we came down
for a baby watch.

TIFFANY: Hi, sweet girl.

It's not every day you get
to see a baby patas be born.

We don't see many
primate births.

Typically they happen overnight
when we're not here,

we come into a baby being born.

To see it is really special.

And fortunately
she's doing it au naturel.

(laughs)

(chatters)

DR. CYNTHIA: Every contraction
we're watching her

and we're thinking,
this is going to be it.

She's going to have this baby.

(chatters)

JAYMEE:
So what should we expect?

AMANDA: Well, I think
we'll start with one.

JAYMEE: Okay.

AMANDA: And see what she does.

Hi, Beauty!

We are putting out
some enrichment

for our lowland anoa, Beauty.

We brought you fun stuff.

An anoa is a mini water buffalo
from Asia.

They're the smallest
of all wild cattle.

Burlap bag is one of their
most favorite things,

so it's a special day.

Really fun for her
to destroy with her horns.

She gets a lot of exercise.

You're showing off now.

Her horns are flat
against her head,

so that they can use their horns
when they want to,

but if they want to flee
something really quickly,

their horns aren't
sticking up straight,

getting tangled in everything.

They're like very sleek
along their back.

Just a really fun way for her

to get a little mental
and physical stimulation.

Definitely the way that
they use their horns,

they can be pretty intimidating.

They're actually one
of the most feared animals

on the island of Sulawesi,

which is the only place that
they are located in the wild.

Enrichment done.

As long as she has fun,
that's all that matters.

(squeak)

TIFFANY: Those little squeaks
get me every time.

Ah, I wish she would just
give birth right now.

JANE: Well, I originally wanted
to stay just to see the baby,

now I want to stay
to make sure she's okay.

TIFFANY: Oh, thank you,
thank you.

At this point
we're just worried.

She's had no forward progress
at this point.

DR. CYNTHIA: She's looking
really tired,

and she's not pushing
as much anymore.

And that means
time to intervene.

JANE: Worst-case scenario,
we could lose mom and baby.

DR. CYNTHIA: Complications
for birth can happen,

and if they happen in the wild,
there's no one there to help.

It's going to be probably
the end of that mom.

I feel lucky that
we're able to intervene

and she's able to get
the medical help that she needs.

DR. LAUREN: I can visibly see
that she's in discomfort.

I think we need to start
making some moves here.

DR. CYNTHIA:
This is a wild animal,

so we have to anesthetize her
to be able to do this.

TIFFANY: Nice shot.

JANE: The dart seems rough,
but it's one second of ouch

and then she's going
to start going to sleep.

She's pretty out of it, yeah.

TIFFANY: Okay, let's go.

♪ ♪

DR. LAUREN: I'm coming.

Oh, she's really tight.

Okay.

Oh, wow, I can feel it
right there.

I think the baby's
just really large

and it's having a difficult time
actually just naturally passing

through the birth canal.

I'm seeing a fetal heartbeat.
It looks really slow.

DR. CYNTHIA: Alright, I feel
like we should get her in.

We know that we have a baby
that's still alive.

This is an emergency.

DR. LAUREN:
We got to move quickly.

So, I'm actually going in
right now and do a C-section.

DR. CYNTHIA:
We have to intervene

because she's not going
to survive unless we do.

DR. LAUREN: I'm gonna
go right on midline.

DR. CYNTHIA: Every minute counts
to try to get that infant out.

DR. LAUREN:
It's lodged in there. Wow.

This baby is physically stuck.

Dr. Cynthia is able to help me
apply some pressure,

so I'm able to actually firmly
get my hands on the baby.

DR. LAUREN: Alright, here we go.

That's good progress
right there.

Yup, you're getting it.

DR. CYNTHIA: Hang on, mama.

There, you got her, good job.

DR. LAUREN: Oh, wow.

DR. CYNTHIA:
Time is of the essence.

I am going to go work on
the baby and try to revive it.

Are you alive still?

Come on, you.

Come on, little one.

I have the baby in my hands,
and I'm doing everything

that I know that usually works
to revive an infant.

Oh, those bruised eyes.

You have to stimulate them
and clear out their airway.

I couldn't hear
a heartbeat at all.

It never took a breath, it never
was able to make that transition

from mom to the world.

I tried everything.

No luck.

JANE: I was so happy that June
was gonna have a playmate.

TIFFANY: Tonight is
one of those nights

that you'll remember forever.

It's a life that's lost.

It's always hard.

DR. CYNTHIA: So sad.

DR. LAUREN:
This is heartbreaking

and really sad for Reba.

But we still need
to save this mom.

What's going to be most
important is to close her up

and make sure that everything
internally looks good,

and get her safely recovered
from anesthesia.

I'll try to start
closing this up.

DR. CYNTHIA:
She's breathing great.

Everything is going good.

DEVON: Oh.

DR. CYNTHIA: She seems like
she's doing fine.

DR. LAUREN:
Make her nice and cozy.

DR. CYNTHIA: Alright,
pretty girl.

JANE: We're concerned about Reba
at this point,

just because she's older

and it was a pretty tough
procedure for her.

I want to just hug her
and rock her.

DR. CYNTHIA: I know. Tell her
everything is gonna be alright.

JANE: We're not gonna
leave her by herself

until we're 100% sure
that she's okay.

DR. LAUREN: What happened?
TIFFANY: Hi!

DR. LAUREN: What happened,
sweet pea?

TIFFANY: Aw.

DR. CYNTHIA:
You are a tough cookie.

DANNY: Good boy.
This is Gomez.

He was being treated for
the swelling around his neck

and that little wound that's
on the right side of his face.

(squawk)
Are you saying hi?

DR. NICO: Hey.
DANNY: Hey, Nico.

DR. NICO: How are we doing?

DANNY: He's doing pretty good.
He took the meds really well.

DR. NICO: We did x-rays,
we did blood work on him.

Everything I checked normal.

I still see some
swelling, though.

DANNY: Yeah.

DR. NICO: His swelling is
still about the same.

That's just air underneath
his neck in there.

I think he hit his face,
or his neck area,

and that's what caused him
to rupture a possible air sac.

I want to keep him
on the antibiotics,

and let's see also
what happens over the next,

you know, couple days,
and we will consider,

do we need to be more aggressive
with him or not?

Sometimes what you need to do
in some of these cases

is just to make a little hole
within the skin itself,

to let the air out.

So we might have to let it
drain, drain, drain, drain,

so that it can start slowly,

you know, healing
from the inside out.

DANNY: So, we'll just
continue the medication.

DR. NICO: Yeah, I want to
continue another week.

DANNY: I'm happy to see
that Gomez is improving.

Gomez definitely wouldn't want
another trip to the clinic,

and I hope it doesn't
come to that.

CHRISTI: K-Baby!

Hi!

Come here.

Baby-K needs a name,
and that's one of the first ways

I can start bonding
with this animal,

is by telling her her name.

It has to be of African origin,

and then it has to be after K,
after mama, Kidogo.

Our final two names
are Kandoro and Kayin.

MADISON: I'm voting for
the name Kandoro,

because I like that
it means sweet potato.

CHRISTI: Everyone gets one vote,

and we're not sure
how it's going to fall.

ASHLEY: I picked Kayin
'cause we waited for this baby

for a really long time.

So it means
"long awaited child."

CHRISTI: Mike wants Ka-Mike
and Chris wants Ka-ris,

and that's ridiculous.

MIKE: My vote is for Ka-Mike.

I mean Kandoro.

So now it's time
to count the votes

and see what the new baby
rhino's name is going to be.

I've got a sneaky suspicion
it's not going to be Ka-Mike.

One for Kayin,
and one for Kandoro.

One more for Kandoro,
another one for Kayin,

and then there's just
a couple more votes here

and that will seal the deal.

Uh-oh.

That's hysterical.

CHRISTI: Everyone put in
their secret vote

and it turns out
there was a tie.

Seven-seven.

So we decided we're going
to leave it up to the rhinos.

We're going to set them
right over here.

So our plan is to get
two different boomer balls.

We have painted on there
the two names.

Kayin, Kandoro.

We're gonna put mom and baby out
to the yard for the first time,

and whichever one Kidogo pushes
first is going to be our winner.

MIKE: I think it's appropriate
to say that

the ball's in their court.

We'll see what happens.

CHRIS: It doesn't look like
Ka-Mike and Ka-ris.

MIKE: Yeah, Ka-ris
didn't make the cut.

MADISON: Hi, sweet girls,

for the first time.

in the yard for the baby.

sensory overload.

which is so appropriate
for this kid,

since we waited
a very long time.

CHRISTI: So, Kayin,
little baby Kayin.

CHRIS: Baby's first
wallow session.

MADISON: Get in that wallow.

CHRISTI: Today's a big day
for Baby-K

because she's in the yard
for the first time.

She is about three weeks old
at this point.

There is a lot of new things
that she's never seen.

CYDNEY: Oh, my goodness.

That is precious.

BRANDI: Oh, my gosh. (laughs)

KRISTIN: Aww!

MADISON: I love it.

CHRISTI: She's going to
be able to see public.

That's a rock.

MADISON: Oh, my gosh.

MIKE: Kayin has not been
in the same space

with other rhinos just yet.

The next step is going to be
introduce Kayin to the crash,

so we'll see what happens.

CHRISTI: She's going to be sore.

What's going on, Reba?

Reba is our adult

an emergency caesarean section.

Unfortunately the baby
did not survive.

We're 24 hours post-anesthesia.

Right now Reba's on what
we would call bed rest for her.

She's not jumping around
too much, is she?

KATHERINE: No.
DR. LAUREN: Okay, good.

KATHERINE: For the most part
she's just been sitting awake,

alert, but not really
moving around too much.

DR. LAUREN: That's perfect.

TIFFANY: For Reba's recovery
we want her to be able to have

the comfort of knowing that
the other patas are right there.

That can help reduce her stress

and kinda help her healing
process a little bit.

We believe that
she probably does know

that she no longer
has that baby.

It's hard to tell exactly
how she's feeling,

but I'm sure she is feeling
somewhat of a loss.

DR. LAUREN: It's a lot
for her body to go through,

but I think overall
she's been really tough,

and she's handled it super well.

KATHERINE: She's a fighter.

DR. LAUREN: Yes, she is.

Reba is showing
a lot of interest

in joining the rest
of the group.

This is an excellent sign.

She's very bonded
with her family,

and their social structure
is really important.

If all goes well, we expect that
Reba can go back outside

with the rest of her family
in the next two to three weeks.

I'm going to be thrilled
when she's healed up

and she's back out
on her habitat.

Alright, Reba,
you got to keep healing up.

KATHERINE: Good girl.

RONI: Look at that
cute little face.

Ready to meet
your new girlfriend?

Lorenzo is
a two-toed Linnaeus sloth.

Her name is Chloe
and she's beautiful.

He's moving into his
new girlfriend's house.

So this is very exciting for him
to be introduced to a female

and start kinda
playing that role

in the Species Survival Plan
here at Zoo Tampa.

KATHERINE: Hi, Chloe.
Good morning. It's a big day.

Chloe lives in
the main aviaries.

You want some banana?

Chloe's been by herself
for a little bit.

So it will be exciting to see
the two of them together.

You ready to meet
the love of your life?

Come on in.

Chloe, your boyfriend is here.

RONI: When they see each other
it will be kinda, hopefully,

love at first sight.

RONI: Here we go!

He's like, yeah, man.

COLLIN: Oh, buddy!

Your life as a single sloth
is over.

KATHERINE:
Oh, he's going right over there.

RONI: Oh, it's out.
Bow-chicka-bow-wow.

That's a good sign!

(laughter)

KATHERINE: Now, she's looking.

(laughter)

RONI: He came to us when
he was about two years old

from another
zoological facility.

He's about five years old,

so he is just coming
into breeding age.

KATHERINE: There he goes.

COLLIN: It's the moment.

RONI: (gasps) Ooh!

(laughs)

She was like, "Get out of here."

KATHERINE: He moved into the
kennel with Chloe a little bit,

but she did not want him to
share that space right now.

COLLIN: Happens to everyone.

(Roni laughs)

KATHERINE: It's okay, bud,
she'll warm up.

We're going to let them
move at their own pace,

which for a sloth
is a little slow.

The door's open for you.

Everything with the sloth
happens up in the trees.

If they give birth, they breed.

It would be great if Chloe
would kinda lead the way

and show Lorenzo what to do,
where to go.

Oh, Chloe's coming out.

Good girl, Chloe.

Lorenzo, do you want to come?

She's going to leave
you behind, buddy.

You just going to leave
your boyfriend like that, huh?

Poor Lorenzo.

He probably feels rejected.

Working with sloths is
a little bit different.

You have to take things
at their pace.

So for them now
we just watch and wait.

Good girl, Chloe.

We're going to keep
looking for those signs

of them spending more
and more time together

and we'll just
leave it up to them.

Chloe is up and away, just
gonna leave him in the dust.

CHRISTI: Come here, Ellie.

BRANDI: Oh, I felt the splatter.

I'm feeling the splatters,
Ellie.

(whistle tweets)

CHRISTI: Good girl!

BRANDI: I think it's beautiful.

MIKE: Come on, Mpumi.

Hi, good girl.

KP: Today we are gonna do

Matjeka and Mpumi's
third trials.

They've done two already.

To see if they can achieve
a common goal.

You feeling cooperative today?

The first time they got 70%,
second time, 80%.

So today we need an 80% for them
to be considered successful.

MIKE: 8 is good,
9 is great, 10 is...

CHRISTI: The best that
they can possibly do.

KP: That's all they can do.
(laughter)

MIKE: You going to get it
all right today? 100%?

CHRISTI: Go!
BRANDI: Go!

KP: We are recording
every piece of this.

And we're working with
a PhD at Eckerd College

to get this published.

Hopefully it can be used for
elephants all across the world.

MIKE: Okay.

KP: That was number six.

MIKE: Four more to go.

CHRISTI: Go!
BRANDI: Go!

KP: That was number 10!

CHRISTI: They got it all?

MIKE: Nailed it.

KP: 100%, whoop-whoop.

MIKE: Good job, Mpumi.

Good job, Matjeka.

KP: Seeing elephants really
figure out a task like this

is so exciting
and so interesting,

'cause we know that
they do it all the time,

but seeing it and measuring it,
recording it,

and potentially publishing it,

is just a whole nother avenue
that will educate people

about the capabilities
of these amazing animals.

(trumpets)

KATHERINE: You ready
for Reba to come back out?

She's ready.

DR. LAUREN: So Reba is our patas
monkey that had a big procedure.

She's been on R&R since then.

TIFFANY: How's Reba
this morning?

JANE: I think she's
ready to go outside.

DR. CYNTHIA: Look how good
her incision looks.

(laughter)

DR. LAUREN: Reba's incision
looks fantastic.

I can barely see it.

I'm really happy
with how she's healed up.

TIFFANY: Look at her.

She's like,
"Please open this door."

DR. CYNTHIA: Alright,
let's go see them outside.

KATHERINE: Alright, Reba,
are you ready to go outside?

There we go.

TIFFANY: Oh, she's first out.

KATHERINE: She is.

She's never the first out.

TIFFANY: No, she was ready.

DR. LAUREN: There she goes.

DR. CYNTHIA: Yay, so happy.

TIFFANY: She says,
"What surgery?"

(laughs)

DR. CYNTHIA: Okay, I could not
do that after my C-section,

for a lot longer.

She looked great.

BRANDI: She looks good.
DR. CYNTHIA: Yeah.

DR. CYNTHIA: Dang, you're
so much tougher than we are.

They're incredibly resilient.

They're incredibly strong.

They have to be in the wild.

She's an incredible animal.

Well, I'm calling her done.

She's healed.

JANE: Just FYI, Aza's looking
really round like Reba did.

DR. LAUREN: So while we're back
here checking on Reba,

the team's thinking
that another female's

looking a little more round,

so we're going to be on guard
for another baby.

JANE: On to our next adventure.

BRANDI: Oh, are they
in the wallow over there?

CHRISTI: Oh, my gosh, I can't.

MIKE: Nothing cuter
than a muddy rhino.

CHRISTI: Today Kayin and Kidogo
will be coming out

with the crash
for the first time.

It's the first time
she's meeting her family.

It's a big day, big day.

Alright, rhinos are in the yard.

She's seen all these rhinos
through a fence,

but she's never physically been
in the same space as them.

Your friends are coming.

MIKE: Kipenzi's definitely going
to be the biggest variable.

CHRISTI: The thing I'm most
interested to see

will be Kipenzi,
Kidogo's older daughter,

being with Kidogo and
being with her new sister.

I think Kipenzi's going
to be like, "Mom!"

And she's going to be like,
"I'm not your mom anymore."

Who's that coming out first?

MIKE: Kipenzi was coming first.

CHRISTI: There's some
of that tough love.

Poor Kipenzi.

MIKE: That's perfect, though.

CHRISTI: Kipenzi is the first
rhino out to go say hi to Mom.

Kipenzi,
Kidogo's older daughter.

She got a little bit
of tough love.

Kidogo instantly kinda
set some boundaries,

kind of ran her off
from the baby,

and I think socially
things have changed,

and she's going to have to
accept her role as big sister.

BRANDI: Oh, boy.

MIKE: Okay.

BRANDI: Oh, boy.

MIKE: Okay.

CHRISTI: Kayin has no idea.

She has no idea all the work
that mom's doing

to keep her safe

and keep the crash at
a respectful distance right now.

MIKE: Look, look, look, look.

The sisters are together.

CHRISTI: Kipenzi's kind of
rubbing noses with her sister

for the first time.

MIKE: What a good big sister.

That's awesome, huh?

It's like goose bump
moment there.

CHRISTI: Kidogo definitely
laid down the law.

She communicated
to her girlfriends

exactly what she needed
and what she wanted,

and everybody respected that,
so it went very, very well.

Today Kayin is now an official
member of Zoo Tampa rhino crash.

I feel great.
I know I'm helping the species.

It's just very fulfilling
and rewarding to do what I do,

and she's really cute, too,
so that, that helps. (laughs)

DANNY: Are you enjoying
the star fruit? Oh!

I think you are enjoying it
a little bit.

(laughs)

DR. NICO: So, we're heading
to check on Gomez,

the blue and gold macaw.

Hopefully, you know, I'm gonna
see some progression

on his neck area and all that.

Hey, Danny, how are you doing?

DANNY: Good, how are you doing?

DR. NICO: Good to see you.
So, how's Mr. Gomez doing?

DANNY: You know,
he's doing really well.

I haven't really seen
the swelling as prominent.

It looks really good,
and he's eating really well.

He's acting normal.

DR. NICO: And we're done
with medications

and all that with him, correct?

DANNY: Yeah.

DR. NICO: Yeah. I still see
a little bit of puffiness

in there, but that's
significantly improved.

What I'm expecting is for
that to continue to go down.

No need to do
anything right now.

We're just gonna let it be.

I think he's going
to recover fully.

DANNY: That's great news.
DR. NICO: Awesome.

DANNY: That is exactly
what I wanted to hear.

Macaws can live into
their 70s or 80s.

So he has quite a bit of time
to be here at the zoo,

and I look forward
to spoiling Gomez

with plenty of star fruit
for years to come.

DANNY: Alright, see you then.
DR. NICO: Bye, Gomez.

KATHERINE: Hi, Chloe.

Chloe loves to be
out in the aviary.

She likes to climb
all the way up to the top.

It is a nice, big space.

Alright, Lorenzo,
are you ready for breakfast?

Lorenzo and Chloe are slowly
getting to know each other.

They are taking their
relationship slowly,

but they are sloths,
so what do you expect?

Here's some breakfast for you.

Hi, Chloe, hi, good morning.

Come on in, pretty girl.

RONI: Good morning.

KATHERINE: Morning.

RONI: Hello, handsome.

KATHERINE: Look who came
to see you.

RONI: Oh, look at
your girlfriend.

KATHERINE:
Yes, she came over to see him

and have breakfast with him
this morning.

RONI: (laughs) Brunch date.

Any signs of breeding yet?

KATHERINE: No breeding
that we've seen.

But we do see them getting
more and more comfortable

with each other, which is great.

RONI: Are you just watching your
girlfriend eat breakfast, huh?

It is definitely
no speed dating

when it comes to Chloe
and Lorenzo's love story.

And hopefully maybe we'll see
some type of breeding soon.

KATHERINE: Yeah, of course.

We never know what
the future holds,

what's going to happen
for these two,

but we're hoping there are
some sloth babies in our future.

DEVON: Hey.
TIFFANY: Hi.

DEVON: Babies everywhere.

This morning we had
two new patas babies.

TIFFANY: We had a surprise.

Dolly, our patas, had a baby.

This is baby number two.

Aza had a baby just a few weeks
ago, and now Dolly has her baby.

So, two patas babies.

It's funny that it was like,

"I think Dolly's looking
a little big,"

and then the next day,
and we have another patas.

DEVON: It was kind of
a surprise,

but the best kind of surprise.

TIFFANY: Yeah.

For the most part, it's always
a surprise with patas.

You don't really see
a change in their body

until right before
they're ready to give birth.

Come show us your baby.

The little baby looks great.

They're both doing great,
and we're really happy for them.

I feel like Reba's was so big
compared to both of them.

I guess that tells us a lot.

Unfortunate.

DEVON: Yeah.

TIFFANY: Bringing a life into
the world is very exciting,

but there are also some risks
that come with that.

For Reba, for her safety,

it's best that she
doesn't breed again.

Happy to have these two babies,
it will add a lot to the group.

DEVON: Yeah, it will.
Playmates for June, too.

TIFFANY: Yeah.

Very exciting news for us.

Continue to grow
our patas group,

and we're really excited
to have another baby.

DEVON: Baby.
