All language subtitles for 004 Getting your project setup in Premiere Proen_US

Hi there.

This is going to be our first project.

We are going to take some video captured on a camera stitched together here on our timeline.

This handsome man is going to talk about a course that he is making.

We are going to fix the color.

We're going to fix the audio we'll add some lower thirds and some background music.

Let's have a little listen.

Hi there my name is Daniel Scott and I'm Davies along with its instructor and some happy background

music.

Be some bullet points as well the fade out at the end K. correcting audio correcting the colors that

my simple project to get a studied figure out a way around Premier program.

All right let's get going.

All right.

So open up Premier pro and yours is going to look something like this won't look exactly like mine.

What you might get faced with is a bunch of intro videos that you can watch.

You can skip those.

That's my job.

And so we want to create our first project.

You can do it by over here.

You can see the new project.

We'll get a file.

New projects either way get started.

This new project window will open.

Let's give our project a name.

This is like a 60 intro course.

And I like to give mine a date.

OK so we're going to put in the dates just a winner get started.

OK.

So the other thing you need to do is location where do you want this file to be.

It's browse.

What we'll do is we'll put out now exercise files.

It's got a project one and just dump it in here.

We don't need to worry about any of this other scary looking stuff.

Just click Okay.

Now your premier pro might look a little different from mine so what you need to do is go to window

get a workspaces.

Make sure editing is selected.

It's not going to click then get a window workspaces and we'll hit this one this is reset to save.

Layout click on that and it will just kind of rejig everything to kind of get it back to at least so

everyone looks the same.

That's a handy one to remember when you accidentally go and freak this thing out and everything flies

the wrong place near like lust go to window get a workspaces make sure it's on editing it's got a reset

save and how back to normal.

OK.

Let's get started by importing some footage.

Let's go to file its go to import and I want you to go to exercise files.

Go to the project one talking head and in here.

Bring in 0 1 60.

Intruder in before click import.

Now let me introduce you to your project window.

Basically this is all a file set that you bring into your project.

What we want to do now is actually turn it into something called a sequence or a timeline that kind

of mean the same thing.

So over here this is just like the raw footage to make it into like an editable timeline that we can

start editing and cutting and letting other videos to you click hold and drag it over to here.

Now first thing I might acknowledges that you might be looking like this guy.

So I switch between let's view and I can view quite a bit.

You're probably on icon view.

This is really handy view and the cool thing about icon view is you can kind of I'm not doing anything

I'm just hovering my mouse over it.

I'm just kind of like sliding it across London sliding I'm just moving my mouse back and forth in kind

of scrub through the footage.

Hey footage is another word for the video that you've brought in.

Going to get an idea of what's in it.

OK.

So it doesn't let's all go to let's beyond this icon view to get started.

What we want to do now is create our sequence slash timeline by clicking holding and just drag it in

this area down here and it just makes a sequence for us.

So over here in our project window OK it's taken my aim before and created a sequence and it's used

the same name which can be confusing.

So this is the sequence.

This is my video.

How do you tell the difference.

I kind of see this little icon here.

If you hover above it says I am a sequence and over here says I'm a bit of video and a bit of audio.

So this sequence whenever I make a new one I try to make a habit of going in and double clicking the

way down here and giving it a different name so that it's clear what it is I'm going to call this my

xp intro sequence game.

I don't often call it sequence I just add that just for this course just so that we can know.

So remember what we've done.

I hit enter on my keyboard so my sequence with a video on it.

And this is the video by himself over here and my little timeline.

You can see this is my video.

Let's add a second video to it OK to make it a little bit clearer how this sequence works.

So to do it simple What file.

Let's go to imports and let's open oh two extra intra click import.

There we go.

So I've got my 0 1 my O2 and my sequence but I'd like to do is add both videos.

OK.

I've got a one.

You can kind of see the name there.

Let's click hold and drag to just drag it.

So it's just afterwards.

OK.

And you might don't really want it here.

Nothing wrong with that but we'll talk about that later.

But try and get it on the same channels here.

Well same tracks and what you can do is click on it and just drag it's kind of like but somebody in

there.

Okay.

To some basic nav to get started because you might be like I can't put my O2 in because I can't see

it.

Okay well enough room to put it on there.

So we're going to look at zooming in and out.

So what we're going to do is we're going to click anywhere down here in our timeline.

Okay because you can kind of see get that blue line around the outside OK.

You can see if I click up here blue liner and there blue run around the outside of that I want the blue

line to be around my time line.

And then if you look down at your keyboard you've got plus and minus the generally along the top of

your keyboard at the end of the numbers.

OK.

You get a plus and a minus or might be labeled as an equals.

Try tapping those OK.

Plus to zoom in and minus to zoom out obviously I just want you to zoom in kinda like this so you can

see.

But at the end here.

OK.

And if you couldn't before you should be able to go through and drag in number two.

So the one weird thing about that though is if I have this selected came our program window which shows

me kind of what's appearing in my video.

Plus there it will zoom in on the timeline along the top there and kind of not do what you want.

You just got to be very careful where you have selected.

Just keep an eye out for that blue arrow while the blue blocks are on the outside clicked on here plus

minus easy now for some reason you don't like that.

Can't do that.

You can use these little weird rubber bands down the end here.

I hate them.

Emory weed but some people like him you can see I can grab the India and drag it out drag it in to kind

of zoom in and out.

That's lovely.

And I can grab the center of it to kind of like scrub along.

All right.

That might be the way you do it.

There's nothing wrong with it.

Most people use the plus or minus but it's just some people in my classes the like no I like that way.

Is the weird rubber band stretchy thing.

All right.

Next thing in terms of basic navigation is key this little thing in he's called your C T I.

OK.

Your current time indicator depending on what turtles you're following.

I think ticking Clay it's called the CDI current time indicator but if you play hard K it's way over

your eye.

Grab this little kind of weed half diamond thing drag it along.

You can.

It's showing me you know where I'm up to my play head so I hit play here.

Watch moves along.

OK so this is your city I play hide click it hold it and drag it along just to get used to scrubbing

along the timeline because what will happen is say I drag along to here and I hit my little plus button.

It's going to zoom in to where that is.

You can see I can zoom right in and I'm starting to see the audio for my voice and minus to zoom out.

OK.

So moving along here plus the zoom in minus to zoom out.

All right.

Basic stuff.

Let's get into becoming an actual editor.

So to be a fully fledged editor what you're going to be in about 10 seconds you need to actually start

slicing your footage up.

OK.

Because at the beginning there's me.

So I've put it right at the beginning here.

Hit the play button and you can see me.

Because I've filmed myself I have to get the camera going and then go sit down.

I've just noticed that fly's down real professional and there's a lot of like me wiping the sweat.

Lots of great stuff.

There's a full stop.

Watch this I kind of drag my play at the beginning here.

Hey play and you don't have the audio through this video here.

And you know you can drag it along or listen to it and kind of see that I said hi there.

And but and I just didn't do very well.

So I started again.

There's a lot of restarts okay or second takes.

So you can kind of see roughly where I get to about his drag it along just before us that wave of my

arm drag the C.T. I k to about just before I start waving and we're gonna grab our editing tool.

So the main one you're gonna use and Premier pro it's called the Razor tool and toolbar the fourth one

down.

Click on that and click once kind of anywhere and here along with this little blue line for you CGI

is and you've made your first cut.

Let's grab the selection tool.

OK.

This top top tool click on his first but delete OK we've made our first edit today.

You're a video editor.

Not a very good one but there's that somewhere.

All right.

Next thing going to do is click it and drag it.

I've clicked it once and distressing.

You can drag any pot.

It's better to drag the top part of it if you drag the bottom part.

OK.

This is the audio part of the video in this top hat is the video.

If you drag the bottom part you can adjust the volume and tools.

It's a weed stuff.

Don't do the Wade stuff click hold and drag this along until it snaps at the beginning here OK so it's

kind of stuck at 0 0 drag along right there at the beginning the next bit of editing is going to be

chopping it off at the end.

So you're gonna play it through.

And when it gets to the end we're gonna hit stop and I'm gonna show you a little shortcut.

We're not gonna do we're gonna do a few shortcuts throughout this course I'm gonna start with this one.

The spacebar key on your keyboard slipped down your keyboard spacebar head at once.

It's the shortcut for this button.

Because you do it so often you can see if a hover above it his space start stop the spacebar on.

Name is Daniel Scott spacebar off to start and stop it.

So play it all the way through until he gets kind of the end.

I'm gonna do the same and where I feel like it finishes.

I'm gonna hit my spacebar to stop the

go.

Kind of got to there roughly and doesn't have to be perfect just yet.

I've stopped it when it grabbed my razor tool again in the fourth to down if that happens.

You see that little thing flash that's the auto save me a pretty permanent prize pretty good at saving

your project as you go through.

And so we're gonna grab the razor to click on it once Section 2 like this part that I don't want hit

delete and then I'm going to shuffle this over.

OK we're going to do the same thing for this next bit.

Now the cool thing about Premier pro is to zoom in on my little timeline on him.

What was the show.

The Zoom.

Plus.

That's right.

As long as it's blue around the outside by clicking anywhere in here or the clip doesn't matter.

Zoom in a little bit.

You can see this audio waveform and that's you do a lot of your editing to this audio waveform.

So what I would like to do is grab my CGI on where I hit the beginning hit spacebar realized full stop.

Drag it along here will create if you sometimes what some people see my interest like know it's really

good.

And I realized I had to do like 50 false starts to get my flow Galen

persistence.

Then it's going to get right to the beginning of this but I can kind of tell us the bit without actually

knowing K so and the dragging the center of this kind of stretchy thing is quite useful.

Okay at least now until we get into a few more shortcuts.

Okay.

And I can kind of tell by the way form that I continue on my merry way.

So this is probably the final cut or the final shot that I want and drag it to about there grab my razor

toe.

Thank you raised to click and I can just go over here and actually probably just guessed that that's

probably the end game just click once go back to my section tool delete this first bit slick this last

bit and I'm just saying delete on my keyboard okay.

And then this guy I'm going to click the top part not the bottom part and drag it along because if you

drag the bottom part often misses with audio remember to drag this top part and you my friend have edited

our first video at least the first part.

Welcome to the club.

Zoom out a little bit so I can see my whole time not going to drag the CGI all the way to the end here.

I gonna head space bar and watch it all the way through.

I'm not going to be you should Cain just actually drag my CGI to hear together is my little cut across

cases straight cut.

You've done a bit of editing you've done a transition that.

Believe it or not as a traditional transition and probably the one you're going to use the most just

a nice straight cut between two different shots.

And if I'm honest 80 percent of my time in Premiere Pro is exactly that razor toe Katie cat drag it

up game we'll learn a few speed tricks to kind of speed that part of it up that's Yeah.

You're a video editor people know one thing I want to acknowledge before we go is a little bit of weakness.

There's a lot of weirdness and Premiere approach to be honest.

What I'd like to do is show you what might happen.

You might have done already is I got my sequence of the two video files over here.

This is my timeline.

OK over here is something called the program window program window is it's a fancy name for this is

what's actually going to be exported.

Anything that kind of plays along here is the stuff that's gonna go out at the end.

You're this other window called the source window.

So if I double click on a one for double click you've probably already found here.

Don't click it you like.

What is this.

What is that.

If you've opened up premium Park before and got a bit lost.

This can be a little confusing.

Your source monitor is just a preview monitor scribble that out and see cities thing source a preview

as we preview stuff.

And over here is this stuff that actually goes out.

Is this your finished product that looks weird having two of them.

Okay.

And we're doing the same thing.

Same Grazie faces.

Okay.

What I find for new people is if that scary.

Just click on fix controls for no other reason than to hide your source monitor.

He like her.

Okay.

Just leave that there and go back to that later on by clicking it.

But for the moment it's nice to have the program window up your timeline down the bottom here in this

project window with all your files.

All right.

Nice and simple.
