I am a documentary filmmaker.

For the past few years,
I've been investigating

the paranormal with Zak Bagans
and the "Ghost Adventures" crew.

to pick a haunted location.

where we're going this time.

The team right now is
hanging out a hot springs spa.

I think it's gonna be
their one chance of happiness

right before
we go to this location.

Tanner's talking

the location we're going to.

'Cause we're about

I can hear the guys
back there having a blast,

but I don't think
that they're ready,

'cause they're gonna be

they see the location.

Last time, Chelsea picked
a hospital in Texas,

and this time, I picked
an extremely secluded

abandoned prison
in the middle of Montana.

In operation for 108 years,

the facility had hundreds
of recorded violent deaths,

including botched executions,

accidental fatalities,
murders, and suicides.

This prison has incredibly
violent spirits,

known to choke, possess,
push, and even shake visitors.

I ultimately selected
this location because of Dakota.

Last time we went to a prison,

Dakota was physically attacked
by a spirit of an inmate.

about the history here?

Butte was the biggest
mining camp

in the United States
at one time.

We produced
a third of the copper

used in the United States.

That's incredible.

There were 17,000 men
just working underground.

Wow.

One of our local residents here
calls Butte a damn big deal.

Makes a lot of sense.

You guys will see
when you go underground.

By all means, turn off
all your electronic equipment

and your lights one time,

'cause you've never seen
darkness like underground.

It's a completely -- it comes in
and just envelops you.

So, I'm assuming, with hard
working conditions like this

and so many people,

there must have been a lot
of deaths down in the mines.

Oh, there were.

There were a lot of accidents
and a lot of deaths.

I've seen 2,500 men
killed in the mines.

This will be the first prison
I go to since Moundsville.

Yeah, I wanted to do a prison

because I wanted to give you
a second shot.

But this isn't just for you.

This is gonna be a true test
for everybody.

Sitting at the base
of the imposing Mount Powell

lies the bones
of the old Montana State prison.

Originally built in 1871,

the prison housed
both men and women

and had to expand numerous times

over the years to accommodate
Montana's many criminals.

You had to do something
pretty bad to be sent here.

And I think when people
entered this place,

they've probably thought
they might never come out.

In the 1860s, Montana's
population began to soar,

as people came to the area
during the Gold Rush,

in search of jobs,
fortune, and new opportunities.

And because there was
this eclectic population,

and because there was
this frenzy for the Gold Rush,

pretty soon it was necessary
to have a facility

to put people
that broke the law.

Most of the inmates were housed

in the 1912 cellblock,

but women were housed
separately, in a facility

that eventually became
maximum security.

While incarcerated,

they were kept in their cells
24 hours a day

and forced to dress
in proper, nice clothing

to make them more feminine
and act more ladylike.

Really?

The women who did get sent here

were really very unfortunate

because this was a place
built for men.

They couldn't take advantage

of even going out into
the fresh air in the courtyard

because that's where
the men were.

The prison had a long,
violent history

during its 108 years
in operation.

Before maximum security
was built,

inmates who acted out,
were sent to the hole --

solitary confinement
located in the basement

of the 1912 cellblock.

On record, it's got to be close
to about 200 inmates and guards

that have died here
at the prison.

How many pieces of people
still exist on this landscape?

While some believe the spirits
only turn to violence

when they're ignored,

others know that those who were
violent in life

often remain so
in the afterlife.

Hey, on the real,
I usually ignore things

when I get scared on purpose.

I feel like
I can't do that here.

The prison is said to be
especially active

with the spirits
of several notorious inmates.

Paul "Turkey Pete" Eitner was
the prison's most famous inmate.

Convicted on a life sentence
for murder in 1918,

he oversaw the prison's
turkeys until 1932.

Turkey Pete died
of natural causes.

He was a murderer, and then
he just kind of lost his mind.

He was eligible for parole,

but he just didn't
have anywhere to go.

And because of his mental state,
they actually felt it's safe

for him to stay here.

After he passed, they held his
funeral in the Clark Theater.

It was the only funeral ever
held inside the prison walls.

And afterwards, his cell,
number 1, was retired.

This is the weirdest --
What the heck?

It gets weirder.

In 1959, a riot broke out
when Jerry Myles and Lee Smart

led 12 other inmates
to try and escape.

They broke into
the deputy warden's office

and shot him point blank.

After 36 hours, the warden took
back control of the prison

with the help
of the National Guard.

They fired a bazooka

at the northwest corner
of the cell house,

causing damage
that can still be seen today

and eventually cornered
Myles and Smart,

where they committed
murder-suicide.

They shot a bazooka at this place?
Seriously.

Like, I found out that fact,
and I was like,

"We have to go to this."

Today, many people report
seeing two male shadow figures

staring outside the windows
of the death tower.

We walked in, and it
wasn't but three seconds

that we were in that building

that we both came flying out,
coughing.

It was just like
all of a sudden,

we were sick to our stomach

and, like, a huge amount
of pressure on our chest.

Holy ****

Yeah, this is
the real deal, guys.

If you are in any kind
of emotional state

or you're vulnerable, it's not
a good place for you to be.

I think if you don't

treat the spirits here
with respect,

they're gonna let you know it,

and maybe not in a way
that you will like.

There's not a safe place

The only safe place in this

have felt that,

That's one thing you don't do,

of I did ignore one.

I was really tired.

All I wanted to do was go home.

And all of a sudden,
one of my crew said,

"Did you hear that?"

And I said,
"Yeah, yeah, whatever."

And I ignored it.

And then as I walked
out of the theater,

I doubled over in pain.

And I'm thinking,
"What is that?"

You know? And I thought, "Oh,
maybe I just banged myself."

And it turned out I got shanked.

It actually felt like somebody
had taken a knife and just...

sliced right across here.

And it bled.

Was it bleeding?

Yeah, it took, actually,
three days to heal.

It's not fun,
being physically attacked.

It's one of the scariest
things you can go through.

You have to remember when you go
inside prisons, okay?

They're inmates.
They were inmates.

They're not gonna obey the rules
when they were alive,

so I doubt they're gonna obey
the rules when they're dead.

It's just the only way they know
how to say, "Hey, I'm here."

She scared me
with everything she said.

It's like, "Oh, gosh,
this is real."

This isn't just some story
on a piece of paper.

This is all real.

This place is so physical.
It's gonna try.

We have the death tower.

This is where Jerry Myles
and Lee Smart died

during the prison riot
from a murder-suicide.

When we were up there earlier,

Tanner's camera battery drained.

at the same exact time.

For the next sleeping location,

we have the 1912 cell house.

When we were in there earlier,

the maximum security building.

Before it was maximum security,
it was the women's prison.

They say that it's haunted
by an unknown female spirit

who likes men being in there.

Tanner was getting touched.
I got touched on the butt.

It's hundreds and hundreds of
feet away from everything else.

Those are our four scariest
locations.

I was just so worried
about my friends.

The fact that we got
through this one unscathed

is just the biggest weight
off my shoulders.

Tanner picked
this location to challenge me,

to confront my fears
of violent entities.

But I'm glad he did because
I feel like I overcame something

that I didn't even know
I needed to overcome.

We're getting a lot better
at facing our fear,

chasing the fear.

A year ago, we probably would've
ran and never came back.

Sometimes, I feel like
Dakota puts himself in positions

that are risky for him.

Like, then I feel like my job
as his sister is to make sure

that he's not doing anything
to put himself in harm's way.

You know,
there's no greater fear

than worrying
about my younger brother.

Dakota's tolerance for fear
has definitely gone up a lot.

And now that
he's conquered that,

he's going to try to take it
to the next level.
