of the young Mexican,

Republic north of the Rio Grande,
an area of more than three

hundred thousand square miles
was a province known as Texas.

An almost limitless land.
Populated by tribes of native

Indians and a scattering of
Mexican citizens.

From the north and east had come others.
Settlers who took up lands

granted them by the Mexican
government in an effort to speed

the development of the new
territory. But like to all new

people in a new raw land,
problems arose.

It ain't been done in any such fashion.

It's foolishness, I tell you.

And you're fools if you think you can
take the law into your own hands.

If you're scared say so,
