It's weird you know because
way before I became a paranormal

investigator, way, way before
the haunted hunts was developed.

This place always had
a hold over me, I was

always obsessed with this
place, whenever I would come

here I would spend months
and month obsessing over it.

It just became really weird
and going back here now

knowing the things I know and being
in the industry for such a long time

it's going to be really
strange going back there.

The entire place is shrouded in
mystery and supposed hauntings.

It is a place that's really
been unaffected by time.

What is interesting about Pendle Hill
and it's like no other location I've ever

been to, is the fact that the entities,
the spirits that are said to haunt here

actually move around erm... they're not...

stuck in one place which is sort of
the theme that you get when you go

to a lot of haunted locations, the
hauntings are said to be residual and

stuck in one particular place, I know
a number of locations that I've done

over the years that is the
case but here in pendle hill,

there are wandering entities and

that is what makes this
place so special and so unique.

Just being out and about today around
the area there are people here that

are doing exactly
what I'm doing they are

coming here to explore
this very mysterious

very

beautiful location.

But I'm gonna go home now and
really delve back into the research

that I've been doing about this
place since I was 15 years of age.

It's amazing and there is a reason why this
place keeps calling me back again and again and

again and I think the time has finally come for
me to conduct a thorough investigation here.

Erm... are you about set?

Yeah, yeah I'm just
getting the last bits together

now and I'll be with

Ok that's no worries so research have sent
over a map to me about half an hour ago

and I've got it in front of me now,
it's basically outlined the key areas

that we need to hit which isn't any
different than we presumed it would be.

was it much different to when
we went all those years ago.

No, not that I can remember I mean
its as atmospheric as it ever was.

I mean I can't believe its been
what? 15 years since we went together.

Erm but looking at this map
now, Whalley, Newchurch,

it's all keyed out for us
for when we get there

and obviously we'll
meet the rest of the

guys at the hotel and
we'll go from there ok?

Yeah, I can' wait, it's
literally a dream come

true going back and
investigating this place.

I know I literally cannot believe
we are gonna do this, this is crazy.

I would like to think that we
do find paranormal activity.

Erm... it's place that I've been obsessed
with for as long as I can remember.

Dan and I used to go
as kids with our parents.

Erm.. I used to, you know I
love the witches shop, I have

a bit of a weird obsession
with witches I always have.

Erm... so for me the history
of the place, the mystery

of the place, the stories of
what went snare fascinating.

And I would love there to be paranormal
activity there to back up the stories.

But in all honesty just
learning more about the

history of the place, more
about the stories erm..

even that in itself is exciting, the
chance to investigate the place that

you've kinda had this fascination
with for as long as you can remember.

erm... and

there's so many accounts of
not just obviously what did go on

back in the 1600's but
also what goes on now

with modern day occultists,
modern day satanists.

People dabbling in what
you might call witchcraft

so I'm really quite fascinated
to see what that does to

the place and whether it's
stirred up energies, whether

erm it is all just conjecture around the
place or whether theres actually some real

disturbing things going on with people
messing with things they shouldn't mess with.

Erm... I really, I don't
know what to expect, I'm

hopeful that we get erm...
some good paranormal activity.

but really for me it's possibly
just getting to the truth of the place,

getting to know whats actually going
on there erm... and then being able to

potentially provide some answers
about the supposed witches.

I mean who isn't excited about
a week full of witchcraft, witch

trials and all the wonderful,
mysterious things of pendle?

I mean the amount of research,
time, effort that has gone

into this, to one of the biggest
paranormal cases, I mean...

everyone knows about the pendle
witches, everyone knows about the trials,

everyone knows what happened up
there but do we really know what happened?

Hopefully as a team we can delve
into a little bit more of the details and

see if we can find anything and I
mean, it's definitely gonna be a big test.

Well as they say you know, witches
back in them days were healers

Erm... so you know it might not
all be negativity that it was witches

work and stuff like that, they could
have just been wrongly accused.

So it's gonna be interesting.

I think it's more interesting to me if they
were wrongly accused for the simple fact of

people have negative experiences there so if
they were wrongly accused it is going to be

frustrating for them.

Yeah, they are gonna fulsome anger
from it from being wrongly accused.

Erm... I'm quite apprehensive
about it I'm not gonna lie erm...

it can go 1 of 2 ways it can
go good or it could go bad.

Think the animal side of things
as well, something different

we've not investigated stuff
where theres elementals or...

things like, I don't know it's just...

Said to be elementals.

It's completely different to our usual.

But then you know, it's said
to be the country's biggest

witch trial on record, in
the country so i think...

I think it's gonna be exciting.

It will be exciting I'm not
gonna lie but I am a bit nervous

But we always get excited before
we go and then when we get there

it's a completely different story
so we'll have to wait and see.

Pendle hill is said to be one
of the most active locations in

the entire UK, the place is
shrouded in mystery, myths, legends

and for us to fully
understand what we are getting

involved in here we have
had to do extensive research

and with the help of
Thomas Potts book, the actual

documented accounts of the
events that occurred in 1612.

Make no mistake about it
we are getting involved in one

of the deepest paranormal
cases in the entire country.

I think that the week we spent in
Chester in season 2 and how intense it was

You know, living in the locations
or living in hotels it was just

constant one after the other
investigation, research, reviews.

and that has absolutely prepared us
for the pendle investigation however,

I do think that this is gonna be a
whole new challenge in itself because we

have got quite a variety of different
locations that we need to investigate.

and some of these locations are
literally out in the middle of nowhere.

So the element are what
we're going to be facing,

we have no idea what the
weather is gonna be like.

So it's a whole different challenge
in terms of not only is it intense

it's packed into a week of really a
lot of investigations lot of research.

It's also dealing with

locations that are
almost quite out in the

wilderness and that
in itself is quite testing.

Obviously back in season
2 it was quite tiring for the

team as it was coming towards
the end erm...so this time.

I think I'm more mentally
prepared this timer pendle.

well this is it it's a
different location, different

area its not a city, we're
out basically in the country

countryside yeah so it's gonna be

completely different
in that aspect as well

We're gonna have you know, we're gonna
be more outside the buildings as well.

More vulnerable I think.

So I think a week investigating pendle

I think it's more a
question of ask us when

it's done of how you
feel and see how it goes.

Sitting here today if you were to ask me
do I think pendle hill and the surrounding

areas are haunted by the sprits of the pendle
witches the answer would have to be no.

It seems too far
fetched to me at the end

of the day the pendle
witches were executed

at Lancaster, Elizabeth
Southerns 'Old Demdike'

actually dies in Lancaster
castle whilst awaiting trial.

Do I believe that pendle hill and the surrounding
areas are haunted? Its a real possibility, you

only have to look at the sheer amount of eye witness
accounts, I'm talking thousands and thousands

people seeing things, people
witnessing paranormal activity,

residents of the areas
witnessing paranormal activity.

The whole location is very historic
it's shrouded in mysterious events

but one thing that really fascinates
me about this whole case is

talks of demons and the devil posing
as things like dogs, hares, frogs theres

actual documented evidence to suggest that
that was happening back in the 1600's.

and there are things happening to this day
on top pendle hill, modern day witches,

occultists, still performing witchcraft
and rituals in the areas around pendle hill

and on top of the hill itself.

It's absolutely fascinating, I can't wait.

Dating back to as early as
the bronze age, pendle hill is

without a doubt one of the most
mysterious locations in the UK.

An area unaffected by time and
surrounded by small hamlet's and farmland.

The location is known
worldwide for England's

most famous witch trial
when in the year 1612,

12 people from the area
were accused of witchcraft

and 10 of them stood
trial at Lancaster castle.

England became a place
of superstition and paranoia

under king James I, many
were accused of witchcraft

and no more so than in Lancashire
where it was believed entire

districts were contaminated bewitches
who controlled both man and beast.

The area surrounding pendle
hill at that time were extremely

poor and many of the women
would make medicines to sell

in the nearby towns
such as Colne, it is here

that the story of the
pendle witches began.

March 1612, a pedlar named John Law
made his way to the local town of Colne

where he came across a young girl
begging this young girl was Alizon Device

who asked the pedlar
for pins in which he gave

her none moments
later, he fell to the ground

the left side of his body
lame and his speech slurred.

He gathered enough strength to stand
and made his way to a nearly alehouse.

Days later, his son, Abraham Law,
a cloth dyer from Halifax, received a

letter urging him to come to Colne,
where his father laying great pain.

When Abraham arrived, his
fathers speech had slightly

recovered and he told his
son of the young Alizon Device

who had bewitched him and
caused this great suffering.

He also claimed that
one night as he lay

helpless he was visited
by a monstrous black dog.

About the 18th of March last passed, he being
a pedlar went with his pack of wares at his

back through Colne field where unluckily he
met with Alizon Device, now prisoner at the bar

whoa very earnest with him for
pins but he would give her none.

Where upon she seemed to be
very angry and when he was past her

he fell down lame in great extremity

and afterwards by means,
got into an alehouse in Colne

near unto the place where
he was first bewitched

and as he lay there in great pain,
not ablate stir either hand or foot

he saw a great black dog
stand by him with fearful,

fiery eyes, great teeth
and a terrible countenance

looking him in the face,
where he was very sore afraid.

And immediately after came
in Alizon Device who stayed

not long there but looked
on him and then went away.

After which time he was
tormented both day and

night with Alizon Device
and so continued lame

not able to travel or take
pains ever since that time.

After hearing his
fathers version of events,

Abraham Law tracked
down young Alizon Device

and brought her to his fathers
bedside where she confessed

to bewitching John Law and
begged for his forgiveness.

She went on to explain that
Law's refusal to give her pins had

upset her and that a large black
dog had appeared to her and spoke.

She demanded of the
pedlar to buy some pins

of him but the pedlar
sturdily answered her

that he would not loose his
pack and so she parting with him.

Presently there appeared to her the black
dog, that appeared unto her as before

which black dog did spake to her
in english saying to whom she said

and dog answered again where upon
she answered and said to the black dog

and before the pedlar was gone.

Abraham Law had now
heard enough and decided

to take the matter
to the authorities.

He explained his fathers story to
the local magistrate, Roger Nowell

who immediately questioned Alizon
Device, what was this black dog?

Alizon explained to Nowell that
she had encountered it once before

Around 2 years earlier whilst out walking
with her grandmother Elizabeth Southerns.

There appeared unto her a
thing like unto a black dog,

speaking to her and desiring
her to give him her soul

and he would give her power
to do anything she would.

Where upon she being wherewithal,
enticed and setting her down

the black dog did with his
mouth, suck at her breasts little

below her paps which place did
remain blue half a year next after.

Alizon went on to explain
how her grandmother had

advised her to let a devil
or familiar appear to her

and let it suck on some part
of her body and if she would

allow this then she would
have anything that she wanted.

She also told further tales of how
her grandmother was summoned one

night by John Nutter of bull
hole, to cure one of his sick cows.

As Alizon lead her blind grandmother
to the nearby farm, Elizabeth instructed

her to wait outside while she
spent time with this sick animal alone.

It died the following day.

There were further tales including
one particular story 2 years earlier

where her grandmother had fallen out with
Richard Baldwyn of Whitehead in Pendle

who had barred her from his land,
again Elizabeth instructed Alizon to lead

her out at night and leave her alone
while she performed some type of ritual.

The following day 1 of Baldwyn's
children fell ill and died a year later.

Now at the time there
were 2 feuding families in the

area, on one side you had
Elizabeth Southerns aka Demdike.

and she lived with Elizabeth
device her daughter and her

grandchildren Alizon Device,
James Device and Jennett Device.

On the other side was the Whittle
family, headed by Anne Whittle aka Chattox

and in her family's her daughter Anne
Redfearne and her husband Thomas.

Now apparently these families
had been at each other for years.

It is said that a member
of the Whittle family broke

in to Elizabeth Southerns
home which was malkin tower

stole the equivalent of a hundred pound

and on top of that Elizabeth
Device's husband said on his death bed

that Anne Whittle,
Chattox had actually

bewitched him and was
the cause of his death.

Having now been forgiven
by John Law and with Alizon

explaining that she was not
the source of evil in her house

she believed that she
may escape punishment

but Roger Nowell
would not leave it there.

He decided to question Alizon's
younger brother, James Device.

James told Nowell
that this was not the first

incident and that a year
earlier, Henry Bulcock

had accused Alizon
of bewitching his child.

She later broke down and admitted
to doing this according to James.

This then urged Nowell
to speak with Elizabeth

Device, daughter of Elizabeth
Southerns old demdike

and mother of James,
Jennett and Alizon Device.

She admitted nothing against
her family but did speak of a strange

mark on her mothers body that
had appeared 40 years earlier.

Alizons stories had also mentioned
the Whittle family and how her

father on his death bed had accused
Anne Whittle, also known as Chattox

of bewitching him to death.

There were also other
stories of Chattox bewitching

various locals including
a man named Hugh Moor

who also accused her of
bewitching him just before he died.

There were stories of her
performing strange charms on

a dish of milk supplied by
John Nutter of bull hole farm

he kicked it over and one
of his cows shortly died.

Alizon herself had seen Chattox with a
clay figure of a child and on one occasion

her and her friend
Anne Nutter were spotted

laughing at Chattox which
resulted in her shouting

Anne Nutter then fell sick the
following day and died 3 weeks later.

Roger Nowell had now heard
more than enough and immediately

tracked down the 2 grandmothers
Demdike and Chattox.

Nowell travelled to
the area known as the

forest of pendle and a
settlement called fence.

The interviews took place at James
Walmsey's house who was a fellow gentry,

many of the stories of witchcraft
associated with the Whittle family

had taken place to the south of
fence in west close and higham.

Whilst the stories associated
with the Device family

occurred around newchurch,
a couple of miles north.

As the 2 grandmothers were
brought in to meet Nowell,

they faced questions
about the deaths of locals

and their feuds with various people.

This resulted in 2 extremely disturbing
stories from both demdike and chatter.

Demdike admitted to numerous
occasions where she had met with the devil

She explained that the incident
with Richard Baldwin had then caused

the devil to approach her in the
form of a young boy called Tibb.

At her going over the
next hedge, the spirit or

devil called Tibb,
appeared unto her and said

To whom she said again to the spirit.

And so the spirit vanished out of
her sight and she never saw him since.

She also went on to explain her
struggle with the devil 20 years earlier

when again he appeared to her
as Tibb and asked her to sells soul

to him and in return she would
be given anything she asked for.

Being poor, she consented in principle but
resisted on a number of other occasions.

After 6 years of visits by Tibb, the
spirit, who had become frustrated

appeared to her 1 Sunday morning as
she dozed and manifested as a brown dog.

Forcing himself upon her and
sucking blood from under her left arm

to seal the pact before
vanishing she was left half

paralysed and was almost
stark mad for 8 weeks.

she also admitted to
knowing how to kill or inure

someone by pricking or
burning a clay image of them.

Chattox also told stories of temptation
by the devil, 14 years earlier he

appeared to her as a christian man
who requested that she give him her soul

she eventually agreed 4 years later
where upon he gave her his name, Fancy

and to call upon him next
time she needed revenge.

The fatal temptation came when
Robert Nutter of greenhead in

pendle entered the home of her
married daughter Anne Redfearne

and demanded to have his pleasure of her.

when she resisted, he left in
a rage and declared that if ever

the ground came to him, she
should never dwell upon his land

meaning that if he was to ever own
this part of land, he would evict them.

Fancy appeared to Chattox and offered
to take revenge and this time she agreed.

3 months later, Robert Nutter died.

Chattox also admitted
that due to the ill

treatment she had
received by certain locals

she called upon Fancy on 2 other
occasions and asked him to turn

into a dog and bite a cow
belonging to the wife of John Moor

and another belonging to
Anthony Nutter, the cows both died.

Demdike also accused Chattox
of ordering Fancy to blind her after

appearing to her as a bear and
frightening her on several occasions.

Both grandmothers admitted
to having vengeful feelings but

both denied doing actual harm,
claiming that it was the devil.

This was enough for Nowell and with
the initial evidence gathered, he detained

demdike, chattox, chattox's daughter
Anne Redfearne and Alizon Device.

Here this worthy justice
Mr Nowell, out of these

particular examinations
or rather, accusations,

finding matter to proceed and
having now before him old demdike,

old chattox, Alizon Device and
Redfearne both old and young.

About the 2nd of April last
past, committed and sent

them away to the castle at
Lancaster, there to remain

until the coming of
the kings majesty's

justices of assize,
then to receive their trial.

They were accused of the invocation
or conjuration of a wicked and evil

spirit which under the 1604 witchcraft
act was a felony punishable death.

It was madness, they were all
laying the blame on each other

trying to save themselves,
they had become so, so paranoid.

Now meanwhile at malkin tower which
was the home of old demdike, Elizabeth

Southerns, a huge meeting had gathered,
this was known as the good Friday meeting.

Around 3 weeks later, the interviews
continued with young James Device, his

sister Jennett and their mother Elizabeth,
who at the time had not been detained.

Nowell again conducted his questioning
at the house of James Walmsey and

this time he brought with him another
JP, Nicholas Bannister of Altham.

The interview took place after James
Device had been persuaded to lead the local

constable to some magical items that had
been buried underneath his grandmothers house

malkin tower.

4 human teeth and an old
decayed clay image were found.

12 years ago Anne Chattox at a burial
at the new church in pendle did take

3 scalps of people which had been
buried and then cast out of a grave.

As Chattox told him and took
8 teeth out of he scalps whereof

she kept 4 to herself and
gave the other 4 to demdike.

His grandmother which 4
teeth now shown to him are

the 4 teeth that chattox
had gave to his grandmother.

Which teeth had ever since
been kept until now found by Henry

Hargrieves and him at the west
end of his grandmothers house.

Young James Device then
went on to claim that he had

seen the Redfearnes 2
years earlier with clay images

and also recalled the time when a large brown
dog called Ball, appeared to his mother at

his grandmothers home and told her exactly
what to do to kill a man named John Robinson.

A local man from Barley and
that she herself had clay images.

He saw his mother take
clay at the west end of

her house and make a
picture of it after Robinson

and brought it into her house and
dried it some 2 days and about 2 days

after the drying thereof, his mother
fell on crumbling the picture of clay.

Everyday some for some 3
weeks together and within 2 days

after all was crumbled or
mulled away, John Robinson died.

James also claimed that his mother
Elizabeth Device, had met with others

to kill another local man named Henry
Mytton from Roughlee by witchcraft.

He then went on to
recall his own struggles

with the devil and at
Easter 2 years earlier

he was on the way home from communion,
he was told by his grandmother not to

eat the bread that the minister had given
him but to deliver it to such a thing

that would meet him on his way home.

James was dually met by
something in the shape of a

hare to which he confessed
to having eaten the bread.

The thing then threatened to
pull him too pieces but James

claimed that he crossed
himself and the spirit vanished.

A few days later, the spirit returned.

There appeared in his
sight hard by the new

church in pendle a thing
like unto a brown dog

who asked him to give him his soul and he
would be revenged of any whom he would.

Where unto he answered
that his soul was not

his to give but was his
saviours Jesus Christ's

but as much was in him to give, he
was contented that he should have it.

A few days after this, James had gone
to nearby Carr Hall with is mother where

mistress Townley accused him of stealing
turf and the hit him between the shoulders

and sent them both away.

A day later, the spirit
returned to him in the shape

of a black dog that told
him it's name was Dandy.

And told James that if
he made a clay image of

mistress Townley then
he would help destroy her.

And the next morning after,
he took clay and made a picture

of mistress Townley and
dried it the same night by the fire

And within a day after,
he began to crumble the

picture, every day some
for the space of a week

and within 2 days after all was
crumbled away, mistress Townley died.

There were other accusation where James
had claimed to have been visited by Dandy

and as Nowell continued to
question him, James informed him that

the pestering from evil spirits
had recently become more frequent

especially at the time his sister
Alizon had met with the pedlar

John Law. James went on to
say that the had met a brown dog

near to his grandmothers house and
over the next few days, frightening things

had began to happen including the
sound of many children crying pitifully

and the sound of a large
amount of cats screaming.

3 nights after that he
claimed he was visited

by a large hare that
lay upon him heavily

before leaving through a window.
What James was about to declare

next, turned this into the biggest
witch trial in English history.

He told Roger Nowell that
on Sheer Thursday, just

weeks earlier, he had
stolen a ram from Barley

and killed it at his grandmothers
house, ready for a feast that next day.

This meeting was later described
by Potts as a special meeting of

all the most dangerous, wicked
and damnable witches far and near.

This meeting took place at malkin tower,
the home of demdike just 1 week after

her, chattox, Anne Refearne and
Alizon Device had been sent to Lancaster.

And it is this meeting that
resulted in 12 people being

accused of witchcraft in which
10 of them were executed.

James told Nowell that
his mother Elizabeth had

told him the meeting
was to discuss 3 things

1 was the naming of the
spirit that Alizon Device

had but could not name
it as she was not there.

The 2nd was to plot the escape
of those in Lancaster castle

by creating a potion to
blow the gates of the castle.

And the third was to assist the lady
named Jennett Preston who wanted to kill

master Lister of Westby who had sort
to put her away at the last York assizes.

All the witches went our of the
house in their own shapes and

likenesses and they all, by
that they were forth of the doors

were gotten on horseback
like unto foals, some of one

colour, some of another and
Prestons wife was the last.

And when she got on horseback, they all
presently vanished out of his sight and

before their said parting away, they all
appointed to meet at Prestons wife house

that day 12 months at which time Prestons
wife promised to make them a great feast.

And if they had occasion to
meet in the meantime then should

warning be given, that they all
should meet upon Romley's moor.

Nowell then interviewed
James's half sister Jennett

Device who also confirmed
the meeting at malkin tower.

and this gave Nowell everything he need
to arrest those present at the meeting.

The names of those were given
by young Jennett Device who

was about to become a key
witness for the prosecution.

8 more were arrested and joined the 4
already imprisoned in Lancaster castle

including Jennett's own mother
and brother Elizabeth and James.

The 12 to now face trial at Lancaster
were Elizabeth Southerns old demdike,

Elizabeth Device,
James Device, Alizon

Device, Anne Whittle
also known as Chattox,

Anne Redfearne, Katherine
Hewitt, John and Jane Bulcock

who were mother and son.

Isobel Robey, Alice
Nutter & Margaret Pearson.

Jennett Preston stood trial at
York, shortly before the trials

began, old demdike who was
already around 80 years of age

suffered tremendously
in the harsh conditions of

Lancaster's dungeon and
died whilst awaiting trial.

Meanwhile Jennett Preston had been found
guilty at York and was sentenced to death.

The judge overseeing her trials James
Altham, he and his colleague Edward Bromley

then made their way to Lancaster to
conduct the trials of the others accused.

First up was the trials of Anne Whittle,
Elizabeth Device and James Device.

Chattox was charged with the murder
of Robert Nutter by witchcraft, the

man who had demanded he have his
pleasure with her daughter Anne Redfearne.

The jury heard of how Chattox
had sold her soul to the devil and had

accused her familiar who declared
its name was Fancy to seek revenge.

The jury also heard of
how Chattox had stolen

teeth and made clay
images of her victims

as well as her reputation
as a witch, having heard all

of this, Chattox broke down
and acknowledged her crimes.

Shecried out to god to be merciful
to her daughter Anne Redfearne

and to forgive her sins, she
was found guilty and taken away.

Next up was her daughter
Anne Redfearne, in the case

of Anne Redfrane she was
originally found not guilty

however, when similarities were made
with the Salmesbury witch trials which

were taking place at the same time,
Redfearne was eventually found guilty

Next to be tried was Elizabeth
Device who'd witnessed her mother

old demdike die in the dungeon
and was now head of her family.

Her deformed face shocked those who looked on
and as she pleaded not guilty to the charges

read out against her which included the
murders of John and James Robinson of Barley

and together with Alice Nutter, the
murder of Henry Mytton all by witchcraft.

In came her own daughter, Jennett Device.

Her mother outrageously cursing,
cried out against the child in such

a fearful manner that all the
court did not a little wonder at her.

and so amazed the child, as with weeping
tears she cried out unto my lord, the

judge and told him she was not able
to speak in the presence of her mother.

no entreaty, promise of favour or
other respect could put her to silence.

In the end when no means would
serve, his lordship commanded that

the prisoner be taken away and
the maid to be set upon the table

in the presence of the whole
court who delivered her evidence.

Jennett then went on to claim her
mother with he help of her familiar, a

dog with the name Ball did indeed
use witchcraft to murder her victims.

AsElizabeth was then brought back
into the courtroom she again cried out

and now knowing that she was to
be found guilty, she begged for mercy.

She was taken away and her son James was carried
into the room. So weak that he could barely

stand or speak it was clear that he had tried
to take his own life whilst in the dungeon.

James was charged with the murders of
Anne Townley and John Duckworth and as his

sister Jennett was brought forward again,
she provided evidence against her brother

and he was taken away, Jennett's
final act as a witness was to point

out those who were present at the
good Friday meeting at malkin tower.

Those accused were brought
in and mixed with other prisoners

in an attempt to trick
Jennett to see if she was lying.

She successfully picked out
the accused even telling the

prosecution where they were
sat during the good Friday meeting.

All were found guilty
of various crimes by

the use of witchcraft
and sentenced to death.

Margaret Pearson was the online to escape
with her life and was later imprisoned.

Finally end the story where it all began,
Alizon Device was the last to be tried and

present was John Law, the pedlar who was now
deformed from the stroke he had suffered.

He looked over the proceedings and
as Alizon Device looked up and saw

John Law she fell to her knees
and begged for his forgiveness again.

The entire room filled with
pity for the young girl and

potts describes this moment
perfectly in his writing.

With weeping tears and
great passion he turned to the

prisoner in the hearing of
the whole court,he said to her

and there upon she humbly acknowledged
the same and cried out to god to forgive

her and upon her knees with weeping
tears humbly prayed him to forgive her

that wicked offence in which
he very freely and voluntarily did.

Alizon was found guilty and this concluded
the trials of the pendle witches.

On the 29th of July 1612
Jennett Preston was hanged in

York. On the 20th August just
3 weeks later, Alizon Device

along with her mother
Elizabeth and her brother

James, Anne Whittle and
her daughter Anne Redfearne

Alice Nutter, Katherine Hewitt,
Isobel Robey, John and Jane Bulcock

were all hanged in Lancaster
in front of hundreds of people

in what was the biggest witch
trial the country has ever seen.

It only remains I pronounce the
judgement of the court against you by

the kings authority which is, you
should all go from hence to the castle

from whence you came, from there you
should be carried to the place of execution

for this county from where your
bodies will be hanged until you are dead

and god have mercy upon your souls.

The pendle witch trials were
an accumulation of bizarre

events in which 2 extremely
poor families suffered.

Shortly after the trial
malkin tower was destroyed

with no factual evidence
of where it stood.

Many of the surrounding barns and farmland
are believed to have once been meeting

places for witches in the area and pendle
hill is believed to be one of the most

paranormaly active
locations in the entire world.

Well we left HQ 20 minutes ago and already
this case has taken a bizarre turn.

We received a call Beck and we are
on route to Nottingham to meet with

Hazel Ford who is extremely well
known in the paranormal community

She's the owner of Haunted Happenings
paranormal events company and

and they lead weekends at pendle
hill and it was here that she had one of

the most bizarre paranormal occurrences
of her entire career as a human tooth

fell on top of a table from out of
nowhere, absolutely crazy. We are going to

interview her then head over to pendle
and meet the rest of the team at the hotel

lets do this.

Obviously with it being pendle,
I've had a look at Thomas Potts

book, researching that and
the things thats weird about that

elementals they're meant to be,
associated with a demon which we've

never dealt with anything like
that before, it's meant to be animals

that are sent from the devil,
obviously with the witches so I think

it's gonna be
interesting to see if we

capture anything we've
never caught before.

Well thats it, it's funny how you say
you wanna capture stuff, I wanna leave

some game cameras in places that i've been
researching that are quite interesting

to see if we can find anything in a 24
hour lockdown so I wanna see if we capture

anything there and it'll be quite interesting
to see because theres been a lot of stories

around these areas and rumours, I'm not gonna
say where as I want to keep the suspense

there for ya but yeah I believe this is
gonna be an interesting investigation.

Well yeah cos theres so
much documented as well like

the whole trial is documented
in his book word for word.

And thats it, it's gonna be interesting
to see you know, its been documented

as a full trial of witchcraft you
know through the family and that

well yeah because whatever we catch we can
look, research up so if we catch something

we can always research it afterwards and
see if it makes sense, if that makes sense.

Yeah but you've also gotta remember
now you know back in them days

people were made out to be
witches just because they could do...

you know they're called healers. They
could use medicines and certain types

of herbs to make medicines and to
other people they were known as witches.

So you've gotta be careful, is it
actually witchcraft or has it been a

false... accusations, you know
and they actually got sent to jail for it.

They got the bad end of the stick.

As Charlie,Rox and Emma
head to pendle, Becki and

I arrive in Nottingham
to interview Hazel Ford.

Hazel, it's so good to finally meet you.

Erm... how long have you
been investigating Pendle hill?

We've been running
overnight investigations

at pendle for around 13 years.

Started off doing 1 nighters and
ended up doing two night stays and hotel

stays and really going for it so we
could explore the whole of pendle.

So I'm gonna take you back to 1
particular investigation and something

absolutely bizarre happened to you,
can you tell me what occurred that night?

So this has to be one of the most
extraordinary things thats happened to us

on an investigation, so we were on
pendle hill at the foot of malkin tower.

At midnight, and we were doing an exercise
with a table called table tipping and

as we were calling out, asking for
things to happen a tooth fell on the table

or we heard something drop on the table, it
turned out to be a toothy big moaler that was

old, yellow in colour, not something fresh
that could have fallen out of someones mouth

but something really that had just
dropped, landed and didnt bounce off

which again was extraordinary as
it seemed to drop from a big height.

you see as I'm remembering this it was
really, there were lots of extraordinary

parts of it, lay there and then during
all the mayhem and chaos of it all,

it unfortunately disappeared.
So we haven't got it

to prove it but we had a
lot of people who saw it.

So it just completely vanished.

Yeah, well we don't know if somebody took it
or it just disappeared it literally wasn't

there anymore,i can'timagine that somenbody
had taken it cos they were all so freaked out

that they left the table, so I'm
not 100% sure what happened to it.

That is absolutely crazy now obviously
you've been investigating the area for

such a long time, in your honest
opinion what is it that you believe haunts

pendle hill and the surrounding areas?

Erm... from my perspective I think
theres so much mystery, obviously you've

got the pendle witches and everything
surrounding that which is fascinating

and its in all the history books, its in
every book, books have been written about

it, evidence through the homes of the witches
you now you can walking their footsteps

But also in every other town around
pendle there are some amazing

ghost stories attached to houses,
pubs, obviously the grave yards.

So you can't walk for more
than 100 meters around pendle

without some story attached
to it, some ghost story

but also you've got the fields
where the peddles would walk,

were obviously short cuts so
you're not walking through the towns

and all the history that's attached to
just those walks as well. You know,

you end up somewhere like a river
where they were caught doing something

I'm absolutely amazed by
that story you have just given

me and erm... please wish
us luck when we go there.

I wish you all the luck in the
world I think you're gonna need it.

After hearing the account from hazel,
Becki and I make our way to Lancashire and

for the first time in 15 years, we would
be heading back to pendle hill together.

Our journey into one of the most
famous paranormal cases in Britain was

finally underway. Meanwhile Charlie,
Rox & Emma had arrived in pendle

and had already began preparations
for the week ahead, our next

step was to meet at the team
hotel and prepare our approach.

Just being in this area now
is mind blowing, mind blowing

being back here, back here with
Beck, back here with the team.

Pendle hill is without a doubt one of
the most atmospheric and paranormal

locations in the UK and this week we are
going to find the truth to whether or not

the pendle witches and their spirits
still haunt this incredible location.

Lets do this.

Team, it's been a ridiculously long day today,
I know and tomorrow is gonna be even busier

so tonight I do want us to get an early night
and we'll start fresh tomorrow morning now

Beck and I have been over to
Nottingham we spoke to Hazel Ford

and as I explained on the
phone, the incident with the tooth

is absolutely incredible,
I know you 3 have been

exploring today, Charlie
I know that you've been...

Yeah well I've been out today to pendle forrest
and what I've done is set up 2 game cameras I'm

gonna leave them for 24 hour and I'll retrieve
them tomorrow and go through all the evidence

Perfect, thats excellent, brilliant,
now guys obviously a lot of this

is centred around malkin tower, home
to old demdike Elizabeth Southerns

That is key to this whole thing
and the key to the pendle witch trial

now Rox, I know theres no
archeological evidence to where this is.

No but theres lots of clues in this book

Yeah I know you've been
reading that book day in

and day out,I know theres
loads of references to it.

Speaking to the people in charge and
the people who know what they're on about,

I think it's situated
around this point here

and I know a few of
you free with me on that.

This area here just by new
church in pendle you've got the

likes of lower well head farm,
bull hole farm, tynedale farm

all key areas that are
related to in the story, in

Thomas Potts documented
account of what went on.

Now tomorrow Beck me and you are gonna
meet with Simon Entwistle, local historian

expert on the pendle witch trials of 1612,
I thought it would be a good idea if you 3

head out to the likes of Barley,
Roughlee, speak to as many locals as

possible and try and get first hand
accounts of where the key locations are.

The thing with this
guys is we don't have any

set locations and thats
how I wanted it this week

let's improvise the locations,
lets just go with the flow

and see what happens. Which
brings me to the next point.

Now we've never ever done this
before and I thought it would be a really

good idea to do it and theres no
better place to do it than pendle.

We are gonna document our every move
and our every thought in a diary format

now the only person who is gonna have
access to this is 1 of our crew members.

Ok? None of us are
gonna have any idea what

eachother are feeling
or talking about.

And what we're gonna do
is film ourselves individually

after each investigation, you're
all gonna be given a camera

and I want you to just explain your
thoughts, explain your feelings now

pendle is famous for it's atmosphere,
it has a heavy, thick atmosphere

it has an incredible
affect win people it's one

of the most atmospheric
locations in the UK.

And I wanna see what it's gonna
be like and how it affects each

of us individually or whether
we can debunk this entire journey.

Ok guys? It's really important that we do
that and we won't see it until next week.

Alright guys so for tonight
lets get an early night

and we'll hit this head on
in the morning ok? lets go.

As we begin our first full
day in pendle, Becki and I

are heading out to meet a
local tour guide and historian.

Simon Entwistle has a huge
wealth of knowledge on the area

and is an expert on the events
that occurred here in 1612.

Charlie, Rox & Emma will spend
the day interviewing locals and

researching paranormal events that
have been reported over the years.

Simon this is where it all began
back in 1612 on a road like this to

Colne, Alizon Device met with the
pedlar John Law, tell us what happened.

Well Alizon would be starving, she'd be
dressed in rags and seeing this pedlar would

be like seeing a sweet shop, he'd have
large pack on his back full of 1612 luxury's

and Alizon begged off him,
please sir, please sir if you can

spare a few pins to pin my
clothing together sir, just a few pins.

Get away with ya lass you've
got no money you're no use to me,

away with ya. Please sir just a
few pins sir, get away with ya!

According to John Law the Halifax
pedlar, out of the forrest of pendle

appeared a huge black dog,
snarling white teeth, glowing red eyes

the dog sat next to Alizon, the
dog looked at Alizon and talked

Alizon I can lame him for
you, lame him, lame him!

Law felt this terrible pain in his
left arm, his left leg and collapsed

in agony by the side of the forrest
path. He lay there for a good 5 hours,

the kind people of Colne could see
him, they got a stretcher team together,

they carried him down the slopes
of the pathway and into an old inn

called the greyhound inn
which has long since gone.

There the landlord Johnathan
Eggrington, cleaned him, spoon fed

him and as Law's voice returned
he shouted I've been cursed.

theres a witch in the
forrest send word to

my family and tell them
whats happened to me.

Eggrington wrote letters back to Halifax
and John Law's eldest son Abraham

received the first letter, here my fathers
in trouble, better go and collect him.

Set off from Halifax, arrived in Colne, walked
into the greyhound and saw his father in

this twisted and contorted state, father
whats happened to you man you look terrible.

Abraham, I've been cursed, I met a young
lass in the forest or pendle she had a

black dog with her, I swear to ya I heard
the dog talk, she's in league with devil.

I want you lad to go and find her,
bring her here, reverse the curse.

Now Abraham he must have been quite a brave
lad, he set off through the forrest off

pendle, through these twisting pathways, dense
forrest and came across this little cottage

called malkin tower.

which was a 1 roomed limestone hovel.

Hammered on the door, the door opened,
there was James Device, Alizons brother,

erm... can I help you sir? I want to see
Alizon Device, my father wants to see her

She's in here sir, Alizon came to
the door, right lass you're coming

with me. Against her wishes she
was dragged out of malkin tower

down the twisting pathways, into Colne
and into the greyhound inn where she

met John Law the Halifax pedlar who
looked up from his sick bed, it's you!

You're a witch, you cursed
me lass didn't ya! That dog you

had, I heard it talk, you're in
league with devil aren't ya!?

This 14 year old girl on bended knees
burst into tears and begged and begged for

forgiveness, she had no idea she'd just admitted
to a state capital offence of witchcraft.

Strangely enough, John Law the Halifax
pedlar was about to forgive her but not

his son Abraham, no we'll have you
for this,I'm gonna go and get magistrate.

And in doing so he opened
the 1612 pendle witch trials.

So now Daniel we're gonna move to
the very epicentre of the story we're

gonna go to new church in pendle
where this hair and teeth were all taken.

And also the grave of the
very famous Nutter family erm...

probably the most famous
people associated with this story.

As we make the short journey to new church
with Simon, we are about to discover

that at least 1 of the pendle witches may
possibly have been set up by Roger Nowell.

So here we are in
newchurch, behind us we've got

the very famous church
situated in the village

and a lot of speculation relating to Thomas
Potts book the wonderful discovery of witches

mentions that in court Elizabeth Device,
James Device, Katherine Hewitt, Alice Gray

actually took items from the corpses
here they actually made clay pictures

when I say a clay picture, by
using human hair and human teeth

my god.

Erm... they would then crumble
the clay picture over the fire and then

people would die but we have to rely
on that being from Thomas Potts book

was the evidence against them
fabricated? We don't know but

what we do know is that they
were found guilty of just that.

By far the most famous grave here at
newchurch is that of the Nutter family.

Many, many historians believe that Alice Nutter
is actually buried there but from looking

at the records in Lancaster we understand
that when the pendle witches were all executed

on the 20th August 1612 in
Lancaster there bodies were

then burnt to get rid
of all the evil if you will.

But some people believe that Miles
Nutter, Alice's husband actually got

special permission to bring her back
but thats subject to sheer speculation.

What i can tell you Daniel is
that of all the pendle witches by far

the most famous one, the one thats
shrouded in mystery is indeed Alice.

and why is that Simon?

Because she came from
Roughlee Hall a gorgeous

building, she was
wealthy, she was educated

but you know back in 1612 for some strange
reason women were denied having a brain

They had no rights whatsoever,
in fact, some men believed that

women didn't even have a brain
and when it came to male chauvinism,

women suffered terribly in this country.

It has been said, never confirmed or denied
that Alice was very, very concerned about land

dispute, she'd had a word with Roger Nowell
the magistrate, he'd done nothing about it

so she made her way to Lancaster, walked
into the courts at Lancaster not the words,

it's a woman! Get her out, a woman get
her out! She grabbed hold of the furniture

they tugged and tugged
but she wouldn't let go

and so the judges said,
well let her have her say

in one day she won legally
and fairly all her land disputes

but in the court that day was
Roger Nowell, he was furious.

How dare this woman go behind
my back she's embarrassed

me in front of the senior
magistrates, I need revenge.

How do I get revenge?
I've got a trump card

up my sleeve, the
little girl Jennett Device.

Whilst her grandmother
Elizabeth Southerns, her mother

Elizabeth device, brother
James Device, sister Alizon Device

had been sent to Lancaster, she'd
been kept at the home of the local

magistrate Roger Nowell and
here's a modern term, he groomed her.

On the day of the
trials he brought her into

court, picked her up and
put her on top of a desk.

And there she shouted to the jury,
my grandmothers a witch, my mothers a

witch, her mother shouted stop it
Jennett you don't know what you're saying.

Have my mother removed from the
court sir, she's embarrassing me sir.

Erm... but as it happened, demdike,
chattox, Redfearne, Alizon Device,

James Device, Katherine Hewitt,
they all admitted to witchcraft

but the other 3 didn't John and Jane
Bulcock and Alice Nutter and Alice, god

bless her, when she's brought into the
court there with John and Jane Bulcock

for the second time that morning, young
Jennett was picked up by Roger Nowell and put

on top of the desk and he said, these 3 people
here John and Jane Bulcock, Alice Nutter

were they at the good Friday
meeting at malkin tower your home?

on good Friday? They were sir.

a look of shock and horror came
across their faces because they realised

they were actually being incriminated,
there was no defence council

and the jury were quite happy that
this little girl was telling the truth.

So Simon do you believe that
those 3 people were innocent?

I am, I am indeed because
they'd embarrassed the local

magistrate, he thought I can
kill 2 birds with 1 stone here.

I've got these people in the forest of
pendle causing problems with travellers

going through, I've got all these
stories relating them with witchcraft.

But I've also got these
other 3 people that are

causing me trouble, I
can kill 2 birds with 1 stone

and the jury did exactly that.

Absolutely crazy! Where
do we go from here?

From here we're gonna go to the most
amazing place now over the years Daniel,

people have asked well where is malkin
tower? Because we're looking at a 1612 story.

No one knows the exact location
but many, many people believe, myself

included that Blacko, the village of
Blacko was where malkin tower was.

In 2012 I got this
very exciting phone call

from united utilities,
the water authority.

They'd been working
working on a dam in Blacko.

I've heard this.

Behind the dam they saw this rocky
knoll, they did some investigation

digging and they thought this
is no work for water engineers.

and we're gonna go there right now Daniel.

My god I can't wait
for this, lets go, lets go.

We're now in an area known as Blacko,
the very centre of the pendle witch story.

Now no one seems to
know the exact location

of malkin tower, the
home of the Device family

but many people believe it
was indeed Blacko. Now in 2012

we had the 400 year anniversary
of the pendle witch story.

Water engineers were working in
the dam just behind us and they saw a

rocky knoll just there and they
thought lets have an investigatory dig.

They took the stones away and discovered
the roof of a very, very old building,

they thought this is no work for water
engineers, lets call in some professionals.

So university's were
alerted and they sent a team

of students and they found
a very, very old cottage

As a tour guide I was invited to
come and have a look at it and it

was like stepping back in time,
flagstone floors, limestone walls,

and the head archeologist said,
Simon we've found a very sinister

find here, we've found a recess in
the wall, we took some bricks away

and behind the bricks
were the skeletons of 2 cats.

I said this is typical of
pendle witch folklore,

to leave a familiar spirit
to guard the building.

Remember a witch needs to
have a familiar spirit in the form of a

dog or a cat and these cats were
placed in there alive apparently.

Locked up which is typical of some
of the similar buildings in the area.

Because the building was such
a hit, it gathered huge amount fo

world-wide attraction, people came
from all over the world, film crews etc

but to this very day we'll never know whether
it was indeed malkin tower but it's certainly

very, very near the epicentre of the story
and I personally believe it was malkin tower.

Our tour around pendle
with Simon had given us

a fascinating insight
into the events of 1612

but what I was about
to learn regarding

modern day rituals in
the area was shocking.

So pendle hill seems to be
a magnet for the paranormal.

Erm... the pendle witch story will
never, ever die but a lot of people

believe that witchcraft does
exist to this very day on pendle hill.

and on one of my tours I
went up to the top of pendle hill

and found a stake and hanging
from that stake was a goat

that had it's hooves
tied together over the

end of the stake
and had it's throat cut.

You do meet these people
who believe in witchcraft

and believe in medieval
ceremony's if you will.

Erm... on halloween pendle hill is
moralise Wembley stadium, you get thousands

and thousands of people from all over the
planet that will converge on pendle hill

for that reason.

Yes, it's crazy to think that this
stuff still goes on to this very day.

It's almost like a
magnet. On halloween it's

probably our biggest
story in great Britain.

So Daniel we come to the end of
our pendle witch story from 1612.

One thing I did forget
to mention is that every

winter, when there
snows come to pendle hill

the last piece of snow to melt
has been in the perfect shape of a

white witch, it's almost like
the hill is still hiding something.

Probably a cry of innocence,
we shall never know.

That's crazy, absolutely
crazy, Simon thank you so

that pendle hill and the
surrounding areas are

haunted by the spirits
of the pendle witches?

There's certainly an atmosphere
here, there's no 2 ways about it and I

believe because they lost their lives
under such sad, sad circumstances

here, it is very, very
atmospheric at pendle hill

and I do believe there's
a life after this one.

about a derelict farm which

is supposedly one of
the sites of malkin tower.

satanic rituals, modern
day witches apparently

still go there so I
think it's one to...

Ok where about is this?

In Barley.

Right ok, I thin this could
be a real possibility if we

can get on to HQ in the
morning, try and sort that out.

Do we know who's land its on?

Not a clue.

Right ok, I'm pretty sure locals are
not happy about what's going on there.

I don't think so no, not by the way
they're speaking about it anyway.

But it's well known?

It's well known but I don't think
they're happy that it's still going on.

Right ok, that's a
really interesting point

and we'll try and

Erm... I spoke to 1 lady who told
us about newchurch graveyard.

Right ok.

She says that theres
quite a lot of sightings there.

Yeah,

Well thats where one
of the pendle witches,

Alice Nutter is
supposedly buried there

Simon actually took us
there today and explained it

so that is a really, that's
a place I've wanted to hit

straight away because there is a lot of
supposed paranormal activity there, now

whether Alice Nutter is
actually buried there we

don't know, we know her
family are buried there but

the pendle witches were all
burnt in Lancaster so... but you've

gotta remember with Alice Nutter
and we've found this out today

she was actually a really rich person,
she lived at nearby Roughlee Hall so...

there is a lot of debate that
she was actually innocent

erm but this is gonna
be really interesting ok...

So newchurch grave yard,
derelict barn in Barley ok...

Now... I was struggling a bit
to speak to some of the locals

because I found some of
them don't want to speak about it

Thats understandable.

but however, I spoke to 1
man and he said that theres a lot

of activity around lower well
head farm and tynedale farm.

Ok,

Now I think these 2 locations
we might need to have

a look at as I think they
might be quite interesting.

That's really interesting
that you've brought that up

because this goes back to
what I was saying last night.

That area around newchurch in pendle.

It'll in the same area isn't it.

Lower well head farm,
tyndeale farm, bull hole farm

well bull hole farm guys is where
demdike actually bewitched a cow.

erm... chattox apparently
bewitched a tub of milk as well

it all centres around this point which
is where the forest of pendle is now I

obviously know that you need to go through
the game cameras that you left there.

But that forest of pendle
is a serious, serious area.

and like you were saying Em, newchurch
is right next to that with the graveyard.

Guys what i think we do tonight,

is go to where Simon took
Beck and I today which is where a

cottage was uncovered ok in the
early 2000's it was uncovered there

and that is another
supposed spot of malkin tower.

Now he says a lot of peopler going
there, performing things, they're

searching for paranormal activity it
was a huge, huge hotspot wasn't it?

that they've actually reburied it now...

It really draws people to it.

Yeah, the atmosphere
was weird around

there as well I have
to admit. Its right...

That's what a lot of
people keep saying as well.

It's right next to lower black moss
reservoir which again is near to Barley.

See pattern is starting to form,
it's all around these certain areas.

I think because that
is right at the heart of

pendle, its right at
the bottom of the hill,

lets do the esthed method

Yeah.

and lets see if we can
get any sort of contact

or get any kind of
results, we all know

that pendle is famous
for spirits following and

being attracted to our
light and our energy.

I want to try and find truth behind
that. I'll get onto HQ in the morning I'll

try and sort that barn out, thats somewhere
I'm really interested in going because

if modern day occultists
are going there to this day

and performing things,
that could be a huge hotspot.

We're just gonna have
to be careful though.

entities that were present in the area

where a 17th century cottage
was uncovered in 2011.

our first location now, this was

the cottage and it is said to
sit on the site of malkin tower

this is one of the key
areas guys, lets do this.

As we made our way
into the nearby woodland,

Emma prepared herself
for the Esthes method.

This interesting technique
involves wearing noise cancelling

headphones and a blindfold so
that all outside sources are eliminated.

The SB7 spirit box is then armed,
leaving the vessel, in this case Emma

with only the ability to hear what
comes through the SB7 spirit box.

She will have no idea
whats being called out and

will not be able to see
whats happening around her.

As we invite any spiritual presence
into the area, our hope is that Emma

will be able to pick up on any
spirit voice within a short distance.

Rox was also armed with a
MEL meter which would detect

any strange changes in
the electro magnetic field.

Ok, so we have just arrived
at our first location of the week.

This is the supposed site of malkin tower
or 1 of the supposed sites of malkin tower

this is the cottage that was
uncovered in the early 2000's.

What I wanted to do was an Esthes method

to get this journey started now the
Esthes method is a really significant

technique to use out in the open like
this and especially here at pendle hill

where it is believed
that the spirits can

manifest and follow
you around the location.

recording any strange fluxations

in the electro magnetic
field around the area.

Nothing further happens for
the next 25 minutes, a number

of the team claimed to have
heard voices in the distance,

and with multiple hits on the
SB7 spirit box, was Charlie

hearing these voices clearly
through the white noise?

It was certainly a very
interesting session although we

do not believe we captured
any intelligent communication.

But could we have
experienced a small taste of

the residual energy that
surrounds pendle hill?

The distant voices some of us
heard, could not be explained

as we were miles from any public
areas that could produce these noises

and at around 12:30am it was
very unlikely that this was people.

We decided to call it a night
and head back to the hotel.

Ok, so day 2.

We have been to where
they uncovered the cottage.

back in the early 2000's and
we did the Esthes method.

which I had the headphones on.

and the blindfold on, erm....

Nothing much really came through.

It was quite quiet so we swapped it over,

and then Charlie had the headphones on.

and he was listening and he
picked up a mans and womans voice.

and it was really strange,
when I took the headphones off,

You could hear voices all around you.

it was windy but it was almost like,

the voices were travelling with the wind.

and there was all
sorts of different voices.

and it was almost like giving
you a bit of anxiety because,

you couldn't work out where
they were coming from or

who they were but it was almost busy.

like if you were to walk down the road.

then you'd find a
carnival, that type of busy.

Interesting, strange feeling really yeah,
I didn't know really what to make of that.

Ok so we're back from night 2

we've been out to the place where Simon
took us which is supposedly one of the

spots that could be
considered to be malkin

tower, the place near
the reservoir erm...

Not a lot of activity
and certainly not

stuff that you can deem
to be paranormal yet,

erm... a few weird noises,
some weird feelings.

Erm... Emma and Charlie
did the Esthes method.

and there was some weird
things that came over I think that

Emma had like a man clearing
his voice or clearing his throat.

Charlie had a few voices,
a few words come through.

Erm... but nothing that was
shedding any light on anything.

Erm... it's only the start of
the journey really, theres still a

lot yet to do and got a lot over
the next couple of days coming up.

Erm...

Yeah and I don't really
know what to expect.

Got some really, really
interesting places to go and

investigate and it's all
kinda centred in one place.

like the sort of epicentre all
around Barley and newchurch and...

It's funny because you're mixing
lots and lots of different accounts

of what went on, lots
of historical facts and

you're trying to wade your
way through everything.

and trying to pluck out what you
think has got the most weight to it.

and what genuinley feels like
it could be a real lead on stuff.

there were weird sounds

and it sounded like
a lot of whispering but

a certain degree as well.

I think the only thing that
shocked me was having male

voices through because
you get in your head witches

and when you're just thinking
witches you don't realise,

You think female when you think witches I
don't know why thats just my point of view

It could just be though because
you expect to hear females and its all

females you forget that theres other
things that might haunt the woods.

Yeah that doesn't
necessarily mean its witches.

Pendle it could be anything.

People that used to live
on the land anything like

that but yeah it's bit
of a weird one tonight.

I'm looking forward to what else,

hopefully we get
permission to film at that

the barn tomorrow, hopefully
we get permission to do that.

So I've just got in from doing
the Esthes method by the

cottage that they uncovered.

Not much to report really
it was a bit of a weird start,

we've had an amazing day
today with Simon Entwistle.

Some of the things that we
have learnt have been incredible.

So we were really eager to
get out tonight and make a start.

Being at the very foot of pendle and

doing an Esthes method
I thought this could go

1 of 2 ways it could
be either really, really

silent or we could get
loads coming through but

it's kind of a bit inbetween almost.

There was definitely some
weird things coming through,

Charlie & Emma both
heard stuff coming through

it was quite atmospheric up there
but to be honest nothing to report so

Gonna get some sleep now, get up in
the morning and I'm really eager to get

on the phone to HQ
and see if they can set us

up at this barn that
Rox has found out about.

I mean Charlie, Rox & Emma have
all found out some really amazing stuff

from the locals so I want to mix
that with what Simon's told us today

whats in Thomas Potts book and
what the research team are telling us.

But I'd really like to
hit this barn tomorrow

and get this journey
started properly.

Our journey into one of the
most mysterious and haunted

locations in the country
had well and truly began.

But what would the week
ahead have in store for us? Could

we really find evidence of what
truly happened here in 1612?

Or were we about to
debunk the thousands of

eye witness accounts?
Only time would tell.
