Now, what year is this one.

‐ This is a 1966.

‐ 1966 was
the second‐to‐the‐last year

for the C2 design
of the Corvette.

And to drum up continued
interest in this body style,

Chevy introduced
a massive Big Block

427‐cubic‐inch engine,
425 horsepower as an option,

making the '66 Sting Ray

one of the mightiest
muscle cars ever built.

The '66 could go
from zero to 60

in a screaming 4.8 seconds

and topped out
at 140 miles an hour.

And how cool is this?

Back in 1966,
"Sports Illustrated"

gave actor
and all‐around speed demon

Steve McQueen
six high‐end sports cars

to test drive,
including a '66 Corvette.

He was so impressed
with its power and handling,

he called it one of
the fastest production cars

for the money,
and if this '66 Sting Ray

gets the king of cool
stamp of approval,

well, let me tell you
something, it gets mine.

How long have you had this car?

‐ I'm the second owner.
I've had it for 40 years.

the back of a truck.

Picked up a beautiful
'66 Vette

to fix up and flip,

and we helped out a gentleman
save his house, man.

This is gonna
be a great project.

It's got everything
I'm looking for, you know?

Now we're just gonna do it up.

in a sec.

‐ I thought you'd appreciate
this 1971

three‐door Chevy Suburban.

‐ I'm loving this.

And they're cool
as all get out, man.

‐ Yeah.
‐ I mean, seriously.

‐ Yeah.
‐ Chevy did a truck

that on one side looks like
a four‐door,

on the other side,
it looks like a two‐door.

Three‐door truck.
They're cool.

Suburbans are not only big,
bad,

all‐around utility vehicles.

They're literally pieces of
American automotive history.

Initially called
Suburban Carryalls,

debuted in 1935, and are still
in production today,

making them one of the
longest‐running nameplate

in vehicle history.

In years past, a few companies
manufactured vehicles

called Suburbans
until GMC was awarded

the exclusive trademark
in 1988.

They're considered
the first SUV,

and the awkward transition
from delivery truck

to passenger vehicle
included the addition

of a third door
on the passenger side in 1967

allowing easier access
for the back seat passenger.

The Suburban
didn't fully commit

to passenger vehicle status
until 1973

when the seventh‐generation
Suburban

finally included
a fourth door.

What are we doing with it?

‐ He want to repaint it.

‐ It‐‐it already looks like
a nice truck,

which is great, but, you know,
I also know

that our body guys will be able
to get all of these gaps

straightened out

and the body line
straightened out,

'cause there's all kinds
of funkiness here in the front

that needs to be
all dialed in,

so that will give everybody
an opportunity to do that.

‐ The client wants us to put
a brand‐new wiring harness.

We're gonna check
the suspension.

‐ All right, good.

‐ He wants also to price out
some new air‐conditioning.

‐ All right, I like that.

‐ Well, does the gentleman
have a budget?

‐ That's the only reason
it's here.

'cause it's cool as can be,

What I'm really digging
is the fact that the gentleman

On a personal level,
I love Suburbans, man.

I've owned a Suburban
for years,

but the shop has never worked
on a three‐door.

So on a creative level,
I love this truck.

The clients got a great budget.

The truck looks like
it's in fantastic shape.

We're gonna have a ball doing

some really cool stuff
with this.

I believe that the shop is
gonna make some money on it.

This is a win‐win
all the way around.

A few months back,
Danny bought a 1966 Corvette

to fix up
and shockingly enough flip.

Know that we've got
all the old bodywork and paint

stripped off of it,
the first job to tackle

is fixing that smashed‐up
front end.

Danny decided to remove
the factory flip‐up headlights

on the Corvette
and replace them

with racing‐style
plastic lenses.

Ghetto Bob decided he was gonna
volunteer for that,

so I'm gonna see
how that's going.

‐ What you nervous about?

‐ I'm nervous as hell
about these.

We might as well be making
a Bubbletop Roadster.

‐ Well, basically,
that's what I'm doing.

‐ In fact, I'd rather make
a Bubbletop Roadster than‐‐

‐ Well, I'm mean, just‐‐just‐‐
‐ These...

‐ You know these fit, like,

I don't even know
what they're for,

'cause they're not close.

‐ They're for race cars.

You know as well as I do,

race car stuff is junk.

They're made for '66 Corvette,

This is‐‐this is something
we bought online.

And everything
that we buy online

that's "supposed to fit..."
‐ Yeah.

‐ Doesn't fit.

‐ Like, for a race car,
you throw some rivets in there,

bam, your headlights‐‐

‐ Wow, these are garbage.

‐ That's why I made this big,
giant block of wood.

‐ Dude, how's that gonna fit?

‐ You can put that in the hole,

‐ Yeah, of course.

See how good this fits?

Once I get this straight...

‐ Oh, you're pulling a mold
off of this.

‐ This is my plug.

‐ So we're gonna heat
the acrylic up,

You got the plug,
and you got the mold.

‐ Well, I got the plug,
and then because it's acrylic,

it works differently.

So I've got to add on here.

And I've got to add on
the sides the same shape.

Once this is all straight,
what we want,

put this in the old oven...
‐ Right.

‐ Lay the acrylic on it.

It will start
to slowly bend down.

‐ Right.
‐ Then we clamp it on the back.

Then we trim it
to where we want it.

‐ Okay.

‐ See? See, it's all easy.

Here's the other thing.

I'm gonna need
a pretty big oven.

‐ So who are we gonna use?

‐ I think we're gonna try
to call the old powder coater

and see if we can sweet‐talk
him into borrowing his oven

for an hour or so.

‐ That's a good idea.

Still gonna keep it
the 1/8 inch acrylic?

‐ Yeah.
‐ Yeah.

‐ That way it's basically what
this was supposed to have been.

‐ So when you get 'em done,
I want to watch this.

I want to see how this is done.

to Palm Springs,

‐ A few weeks back,
I bought a gorgeous

'61 Cadillac to the SEMA Show
in Las Vegas.

To say that car was a hit
was an understatement, man.

Everybody loved it,
especially me.

I'm kicking myself
for pre‐committing

to sell this car at auction,
but I've got to say,

I'm at the McCormick Auction
in Palm Springs.

It's one of my
favorite auctions of all times.

So I'm looking forward
to seeing what kind of reaction

the car builds
and how much money she gets.

‐ Hopefully Danny understands
that we're here

to sell, not buy.
‐ Right.

I gotcha.

My concerns for today is this.

Most of the iron that you see
at the auctions here are,

like, you know,
really high‐end, classy,

expensive, nice things,
you know.

‐ Yeah.

‐ We show up with this
crazy, custom, insane,

slam, lowered,
outrageously painted,

rumbling
'61 Bubbletop Cadillac...

‐ Right.
‐ You know, the good news is,

it will probably be
the only thing like it there.

‐ That's front‐wheel drive.

If you look at this car,

you will see one of
the greatest body styles

that General Motors
came out with, 1967.

This car was...
‐ The headlights.

It was a spaceship.

‐ Mm‐hmm.
‐ Way ahead of its time.

‐ You know, I think we could
pile all four of us in this.

‐ Oh, easily.
‐ Oh, definitely, yeah.

Beautiful car.

I like it a lot.

I like this a lot.

‐ This is an '06,
so just a great car.

Sometimes you fly coach.

Sometimes you fly
business class.

But in an '06 Bentley
Continental Flying Spur,

it's always 100% first‐class.

Marketed as the fastest
four‐door production car,

this beauty maxes out
at around 200 miles per hour.

The world‐famous interior
is wrapped

in 11 hides of leather

with built‐in heating
and cooling systems

that are the height
of modern comfort.

Inside and out,
when you're soaring high

on an '06 Flying Spur,
you're always on cloud nine.

But you've got to see it
in my head.

not patched correctly

at or below 100 hours,

I think we're solid.

We are not blowing his budget
out of whack.

You know, I just want to make
sure that this gentleman

doesn't go through
a shock factor,

and that's why I'm just kind of
easing along with him

and making sure that he's aware
of every step of the way

and that he's cool with it,

it's gonna be a badass ride.

This is beautiful.

Introduced in 1959,

the Chevrolet Impala became
an instant hit for Chevy.

And by 1963,

the Impala became one of
Chevy's top‐selling models.

The 1963 Super Sport model
screams cool.

Its aluminum trim
and SS badging

complementing the redesigned
front grille.

Even though the Impala
was marketed

as an everyman's car,

under the hood,
it was all business.

The Impala's 327‐cubic‐inch
V‐8 motor

was able to produce
300 horses.

The '63's low
and sleek appearance

makes it a popular car
in the low‐rider scene,

but these babies also
look amazing

as custom hot rods
or even bone‐stock original.

for a customer

Something I really wanted
to change

was those pop‐up headlights
that were beat to death.

That's why I decided,
"Man, let's go old‐school,

L88 racing lights."

So Ryan and Bob,
they had some issues

with the fit
on these headlights, man.

I get it, so I'm gonna go check
on 'em

and see how it's coming out.

How bad are we?

‐ We're a lot better
than we were when we started.

‐ So when me and Ryan
went to Henderson

and used old boy's
magic hotbox oven

that almost killed
both of us...

‐ It was ridiculous.
‐ Man it was tough.

‐ Seriously?
‐ Yeah.

‐ 450 degrees sounds hot

until you're standing in it,
and it's too hot.

‐ It was a...
[groans]

‐ Wait a minute.
You guys stepped into an oven?

‐ Yeah.
‐ Correct.

‐ Whoo.
‐ You got it?

‐ That's warm.
‐ Mm, it's hot, hot, hot.

Almost like a paint booth,
but even in two foot

to grab these
and pull them out,

can't even open your eyes.

‐ Make you want to get right
with the Lord, don't it?

‐ Correct.

‐ First time around,
we went out there with this.

Because we figured
we'd heat it up,

fold it over,
shape it nice and pretty.

Just wasn't getting that radius
right here.

‐ Got it.
‐ Came back.

And Bob made the female part.
‐ Right.

‐ That way, we heat it all up,
and then...right on top of it.

‐ And then sat on it.

‐ Nice.
How'd that go?

‐ In going from extreme
450 degrees

to 80‐something degrees,

it‐‐it gets a little away,
because it gets cool too quick.

‐ 'Cause I mean, it's close,
so what's the plan

to get this better than close.

‐ A little bit of torching
to work out some of the waves,

and the rest of it is block,
sand, and clear.

‐ Okay.
‐ Go over it

with a hard block 80,

work out any
of the imperfections,

then re‐clear everything.

‐ I get it. I'm seeing it.
And I'm feeling the warmth.

So I know you're still
shaping it.

But is this gonna work?

‐ This has to work.

The whole front of the car
is shaped to these bucks,

to these headlight lenses.
‐ Okay.

‐ That's that.

To go back to the pop‐ups,

just cut the front off,
start all over again.

‐ Okay, all right.
‐ So this gonna work.

‐ 'Cause I think this is
a really,

you know, crucial part
of the face of that Corvette.

Um, eliminating the pop‐ups
and doing the, you know,

the racing headlights and stuff
is just way cool on that car.

So if you guys think
this is gonna work...

‐ If not, I'll make
another trip to Henderson

and get in another
450‐degree oven again, I guess.

‐ This headlight assembly, man,

it's gonna be
a little bit tricky.

It's something
we have not done before,

so there's gonna be a bit
of trial and error,

but with that being said,

the end product
has got to be perfect.

It is a little nerve‐racking,
man.

But I've got all the faith
in the world in Bob and Ryan.

I'm just hoping that they
can pull this off

without baking themselves.

When our client sent us
this '71 Suburban, man,

this thing looked like it
was gonna be a piece of cake.

But then we stripped it down
to bare metal,

found a whole lot of rust,

and the whole bed
of this thing

is rotten plywood.

So what started out
at what was gonna be

a quick and easy refresh, man,

turned into
a full‐on restoration.

But I got the client on board
for the extra time

and the extra budget,
and man,

this thing came out beautiful.

Dwayne, Kiersten,
and their daughter Rebecca

are here today to see how

their brand‐new old Suburban
turned out.

Let's talk about this truck
for a minute.

‐ A lot of people don't
even know that that exists.

‐ I find them extremely cool.

I mean, I think‐‐
I think they're wicked trucks.

Truck looked good
when it got here.

Till y'all took the paint off.

as you know,
older vehicles,

they like to hide things.

Boy, did we find
everything that was hiding.

‐ But the good news is,

this is the most solid '71

three‐door Suburban
on the planet.

There's not an ounce of rust
anywhere on this truck anymore.

Everything is all steel
and gorgeous.

So let's get down
to the fun part.

with this truck?

‐ Well, me and the wife
are gonna do car shows.

I work on everybody else's
hot rods,

but I didn't have my own.

and it's time.

Wow, that's amazing.

for this build,

and man was it worth it.

We took this cool
old three‐door

and turned her into
a family treasure.

We updated the front grille,

replaced the rusted‐out
side panels

with clean,
rust‐free American steel,

then did the same with that
rotted‐out wooden truck bed.

And that massive
Big Block motor?

Whew, we freshened it up,
tuned it,

brought it back to that clean,

straight off
the showroom floor look,

so it looks as good
as it runs.

Ryan really went nuts
with the paint

with a mallard blue and white
paint scheme

that perfectly complements
this old girl's body lines

and threw in some ghost flames

that really pop
in the Vegas sun.

Man,
this thing is cool.

And let's get up here
under the hood.

‐ I like how you blacked out
that front

so it has that '70s muscle,

"I want to punch you in the
mouth" kind of look.

‐ Right,
replaced the whole grille

with a blacked‐out
billet grille,

blacked out
the headlight buckets,

so the face has got
that wicked face on it.

But let's get up under here.

‐ Looks good already.

Oh, wow.

‐ We've got your fast
fuel‐injection setup.

We added a complete serpentine
belt setup on the front.

We added Restomod
air‐conditioning in it,

so now you've got
your big AC compressor,

and, of course, you know,
you brought us

a Big Block 454.

What's to complain about?

[laughter]

‐ Man, this is outstanding.

‐ Well, let's move on.

Thump like it's supposed to.

the passenger side

and open those doors,

because we have, you know,
more doors over here.

‐ And when I was growing up,

we scored a '66 Corvette

that needed a little
of love, man.

This thing had been
banged up in the front end

a few times over the years.

Once we got a buyer, man,
we went to town

and built a beautiful
'66 Corvette

the way I would have done it
for myself.

The original pop‐up headlights
on this 'Vette were shot, man.

So I had this thought.

"Let's do some old‐school
L88 racing‐style headlights."

It fixes the solution
of the headlight issue,

plus gives it a great
racing vibe.

Then my man Ryan
came out swinging

on the paint on this thing.

I'll tell you what,
ain't no factory 'Vette

ever looked this good.

This classic beauty is done,
man,

so I called my buddy Greg
to come over

and lay his eyes on it,
because this guy

knows cars,
and he's got good taste.

Still driving the Impala.

on her.

We kept the timeless
C2 styling

and gave it an updated

Count's Kustoms‐style
makeover.

And man,
this thing is smokin'.

We deleted the front bumpers
and changed out the grille

creating a sleeker look
on this 'Vette's pretty face.

We kept that 427 Stinger hood,
because it's just too cool.

And onto that hood
we installed a blueprint

383 Stroker engine
and paired it with side pipes

that make her sound mean.

Lastly, we replaced
those pop‐up headlights

for those cool
SCCA road course

L88‐inspired
headlight assemblies.

I love 'em.

Man, this thing is sure
to turn heads

of 'Vette lovers
and everyone else too.

First impressions.
‐ First thing is the color.

‐ Chili red.
‐ Fantastic.

It's not wild,

but it's clearly a custom.
‐ Perfect.

‐ But the best part is,
coming out,

those headlights
are just phenomenal.
