It's like a throwback to the halcyon days
of the 70s with a modern twist.

Leeds United bathed in white.
We keep saying it.

The atmosphere is superb.
The games get bigger.

But this is the major clash of the season.

Top-of-the-table Leeds United
taking on second placed Norwich City.

United with the chance to go six points
clear of their nearest rivals.

After 29 games of a gruelling 46-game
Championship season,

Leeds United stand three points clear
at the top of the table.

January has been a tough month.

The Spygate saga was followed

by the collapse of the Dan James transfer
at the final minute.

And Leeds' form has suffered
since the end of December.

They've lost four from six games.

Marcelo Bielsa's side

now face their closest rivals
Norwich City at Elland Road.

It's a six-pointer, this one.

Yeah, top of the league clash - Norwich.

Probably the biggest game
in the past 10 years, summit?

Well, since the last play-offs,
I'd say. Crucial.

It already feels
like a Champions League night.

Despite Leeds' recent dip in form,

victory over Norwich

would still take them six points clear
at the top of the Championship.

But a loss would see them lose top spot.

but I bet you that won't be
the last twist and turn

between now and the end of the season,

so I've been pushing and pushing

And so I'm itching to get back,
yeah, now I'm just ready to go.

Norwich City are a team
Marcelo Bielsa admires and respects.

It's a team that attacks very well.

It's a team that's designed to attack.

So, we want to attack,
but we will have to defend as well.

There's no doubt about it,
Leeds come in in very inconsistent form.

They are up against the Canaries,
who are a far cry from the side

that Leeds beat earlier on
in the season three-nil at Carrow Road.

and, with just five minutes on the clock,

And so I do think

on the players as well.

It was almost
like a missed opportunity, I think.

And I think there
was a lot of anger and frustration

at the fact that maybe
we hadn't been on the top of our game.

Obviously, it was a big game.
If we'd won, we were six points clear.

And now it's brought it all back tight.

We were sloppy, we made stupid mistakes,
we did things that were not normal for us,

and I think everyone looked back at it
as one of them where,

damn, we could have done better than that.

Leeds have been knocked off the top spot,

and their fans now know
the race for promotion

is going to be a tight, tense run-in.

You look at maybe 10 years ago,

if we lost, you'd just kind of
shrug your shoulders.

Now you lose, every single part
of your body feels the pain.

The kids feel the pain, I feel the pain,
it spoils my evening.

I don't wanna go out, do anything.
Don't wanna spend any time with my wife.

It's back to the days
where the result of Leeds

determines my whole frame of mind,
and my whole mood.

What a shift, from ten years ago,
to what it is now.

The spirit is so strong.

This season has just changed everything.

A week after the Norwich defeat.

Leeds must pick themselves up
as they face Middlesbrough,

another side in the promotion race.

Adam Forshaw,
out injured with a knee injury,

is travelling up to his former club
so he can support his Leeds teammates.

Leeds are in a poor run of form
and the players are feeling the heat.

Of course there's pressure on everything,
but it's a good pressure.

I've been in relegation battles before
and that's not nice and there is pressure

and players are running out of contract
in a relegation battle

and they're not sure
where their next contract might come.

You know, have families,
and mortgages to pay and things like that,

but this pressure is, you know,

you're wanting to create success
and history for the club again.

I think everybody else on the exterior,

they were building it up a lot more
when there are still sixteen games to go

and a potential 40-odd points
to play for still.

It's social media nowadays.

It's just a platform for people
to just slate you if they want.

And there's no repercussions for it.

For the first time all season,

the Leeds players
are facing criticism on social media

from some of their own fans.

I don't try to read it, but then my dad
and then like my missus

will text me saying, like,

"Look, Luke, don't go on Twitter
because there's..."

And I say, "Look, just don't read it."
Like, I don't try to listen to it

but obviously then you do get drawn
into reading things

and some things ain't nice to hear.

At the end of the day,
it's football and he's a human.

Like, do they go and do their jobs
perfectly every single day?

I don't think so.

People always say that
we have got thick skin

but, like, it doesn't mean
that we're not getting hurt by it,

or not listening to it,
because we do read things.

And then it does hurt you when people say,
"Oh, he's crap, get him out."

Then like, "He's been rubbish
for the whole season,"

and then you think,
"Wait up, at the start of the season

I was the best thing since sliced bread,"
you know?

But it's just one of those things.

Players go up and down in form

and fans pay their money
so the fans can say what they want.

Every time I step out onto Elland Road
the fans still cheer my name.

There are 34,000 people in that stadium
and then after the game

there might be 20 people on Twitter
who give you rubbish.

And some things are true.

Some things I read and think,
do you know what, you're spot on there.

I was crap today.
So, I take that on the chin.

But there are other things
where you think, "Wait up,"

and those things
can play on your mind a little bit.

Not everyone's gonna like you.

And someone's gonna voice
their opinion on you or...

and a lot of the times,

you do remember the bad comments
more than you remember the good ones.

People just forget
you're a person sometimes.

Some of the messages you get...

the same person
might see you in the supermarket

and ask you for a picture,
cause he's there face to face with you.

You know, people just forget
that you are a normal person.

People are lying if they say
it doesn't affect you, 'cos it does.

You have to have thick skin, but...

it does affect you.

But there's a lot more benefits
that outweigh it for me, as well.

I go to work every day and stay fit
and do a job that I genuinely love doing.

I'm lucky and blessed to be doing it.

I never really had a back-up plan
in my head of what I wanted to do,

apart from football.

Two seasons ago, Adam Forshaw played
for Middlesbrough in the Premier League.

This season, like his present club Leeds,

they too are fighting
to get back into the top flight.

- Hi, how are you?
- Are you not playing today?

- I'm injured.
- Are ya?

I'm a bit late
if I was going to play, aren't I?

Oh.

Unfortunately you lose games sometimes,

and you have to learn from them.

The best game we've actually learned from
was West Brom away earlier in the season

when we got beat 4-1.

We went on a run;
we won eight on the bounce after.

So, it's the chance
to start a new run again.

Patrick Bamford was also
a Premier League player with Boro.

For me, my aim, and probably
the rest of the lads',

is to take the team up.

And for me
that would be the perfect scenario,

to score 15 goals between now
and the end of the season and we go up.

After scoring as a substitute
in the three-one defeat to Norwich City,

Bamford makes his first league start
for Leeds.

A win or a draw
would move Leeds back to the top spot.

like I said before, this league is tough,

every game is competitive and it's hard

but yeah, we realise now
we're getting closer.

But the only thing you can do
is have focus on the next game.

Kalvin Phillips is arguably the most
improved player since Bielsa arrived.

Many consider him
a Leeds legend in the making.

But the victory comes at a cost.

Leading scorer Kemar Roofe

has damaged knee ligaments
and faces two months on the sidelines.

on his all-round play.

And the fact that, you know,
to get 14 goals this season

is a massive reward for hard work for him.

I'm impressed with Kemar Roofe
because he's tireless.

With his injury, I thought...
they're gonna lose something here.

I did it... I think 15 minutes to go,
when I took the last shot.

And then when I was on the floor,
I got back up and I felt it.

But then I think
the keeper rolled the ball out,

and if I don't run after the defender
then I'm gonna get shouted at so...

so I thought, "Let me just run after him,"
and then I managed to play on.

Um... and then the following day
it was hurting.

The lateral ligament,
I've just torn it a bit,

I think if it was fully gone then
I would have to have an operation on it.

I'm in this for like two or three weeks.

Well, it's gonna be a massive loss,
but then we got Pat come back in now,

and then he's looking sharp
and he's hungry to score goals.

Kemar Roofe's injury
is not Leeds' only concern.

Let's begin with that breaking news.

The FA Cup talk to come but the EFL

have announced that Leeds United
have been fined £200,000

and given a formal reprimand
for what was dubbed at the time "Spygate".

Punishment
for the infamous Spygate incident

has eventually been meted out
by the Football League.

On the basis
that we didn't break any specific rule,

I think the fine was severe.

When you look
at how other clubs are being fined,

for financial irregularities
or how their fans have behaved,

how their players have behaved,
it was harsh.

It's something that offends morality

but it doesn't actually offend
a particular rule.

And so the EFL looked at their rules
and found one that they thought fitted -

and that is that each club
has to behave with the utmost good faith

to every other club
and, indeed, to the league.

It's a huge fine
for not committing any rule break.

I mean that... that...

I could totally understand why Leeds fans
have felt that the world was against them.

This season is the first time
I've really properly thought,

"Hang on.
I don't think this is balanced anymore."

The EFL arising out of the case
is going to change its rules.

It's going to bring in a specific rule
which Leeds United will support

as a result of the way
the matter has been resolved.

That rule will say that nobody is allowed
to observe the training sessions

without the consent of the other club
in the 72 hours before a game.

Everybody will know where they stand
and that will be the end of it.

Now Leeds have accepted the sanction
and apologised for their actions.

Leeds decide to accept the fine

in return for closure on the long-running,
much-publicised case.

We shouldn't be in this position

and we could easily
not be in this position

because the press conference
of Marcelo was unnecessary.

He could have done that

to explain to an EFL representative
or Football Association representative.

But I think it was pointless
to do it publicly, in my opinion,

and that's why we probably deserve a fine.

Even if I don't think we deserve a fine,
I accept it.

Against the club's wishes, Marcelo Bielsa
demands to pay the fine himself.

The club eventually agree to his demands
and everybody can move on from Spygate.

It's mid-February.

Recent results have seen Leeds
drop to third in the table.

But they have a game in hand.

Leeds now have a series
of three games in one week.

First up are Bolton Wanderers
at Elland Road.

They are second from bottom in the league
and fighting to avoid relegation.

It's a big one. It really is a big one.

Three games in six days, starting today
with what should be a home banker.

I woke up this morning,
like most mornings this season,

excited about the day,
excited about the game.

My life now revolves around Leeds again.

It's great to be back
in that kind of spirit.

I think we should win, we have to win,

but it's going to be a test.

these guys can feel it in their stomach,

but we're going to do it.

very comfortable and relaxed.

And now I'm much more nervous and stressed

because we have been up there all year -

So, every game now I'm very worried

because I know how much the players
are working hard and how much they care

and how much they are doing to give
this city and fans what they deserve.

I come to every game with a lot of hope

but now I start to get much more stressed
than what I used to be.

for a night match
against Queens Park Rangers,

who have lost their last seven games
and lie fifteen places below them.

Victory will return Leeds
to the top of the table.

The importance of the game
is not lost on head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

I think that from now
until the end of the championship,

all the games
will have heavy consequences.

and every game we play,
especially at Leeds,

it feels like 90 minutes of war
in every game.

You go a goal behind away from home

and they have the energy to defend
and keep on to the lead.

They made it hard work
but we've got to be better.

We created some chances again
but we'll go back to the drawing board

and we'll be working hard again for Friday
because it's a massive game Friday.

The loss was an unexpected one,

and to be sad over a loss

is completely natural.

It's my job, my obligation,
to overcome the sadness,

and hope for the next game
works as a cure for that.

There's no time
for Marcello Bielsa and Leeds

to dwell on the shock loss to QPR.

the team right behind Leeds
on the table visit Elland Road:

A team who inflicted

and, of course, we are aware of the goals
wanted by the city and the club,

the players, the fans, everybody.

But I also can't say

that my only interest is winning.

What also interests me
is the way in which we build the victory.
