chills thinking about it.

This is high stakes.

Designers are now
combining fashion

with art and architecture,

pop culture,
to create full experiences

for their fashion shows, which
leads me to your challenge.

We want each of you to create
your version

of an experiential fashion show
within these rooms.

- Ooh, man.

who you are as a designer.

Make it bigger and bolder than
anything we've seen from you.

industry insiders walking
through your rooms

and experiencing the show.

This will determine
who will make the final four

to create their collection
and present it

to the fashion industry.

- I myself have done tons
of experimental fashion shows.

I luckily had the platform
during my club years

at this nightclub called Mother.

They would hire me out to do

an interactive experimental
performance.

So I'm good for this.

- Hello, hello.

- [ gasps ] Hi!
- Oh, my God. You're so cute.

- Hi.
- Hi, Tessa.

- I want to create
a rococo room

that is slowly turning
into a forest.

- Okay.

- Rococo was just this really
Baroque affluent style.

It was like
a hyper-feminized aesthetic

that I find very inspiring.

I would like the floor to be,
like, mossy

and mound into the center.

- Ah.
- 'Cause I want my model

to be standing in the center
drinking tea.

- Okay.

- I wanna, um, continue, um,
with this idea

of Baltimore blooming
or Maryland blooming.

- Well, you know what's one
of the interesting places

that you see flowers
that people don't think about,

are in, like, uh, walls.
- Mm-hmm.

- When they're, like,
literally breaking through.

Every time I create something
that's connected to Baltimore,

it gets me on the top.

Baltimore's my roots,

and every time I reference
back to Baltimore,

it brings something out of me
that makes me push harder.

- I have this whole concept
of, like,

they're in their dressing room
being dressed

by robotic hands.

- It makes me think
of "The Jetsons," you know?

Like, you would go down
the conveyor belt,

and they would spray your hair.
- Exactly.

- And she would, like,
put her dresses on.

- The more that you can have
your guests interact

with the space, the better.

That's what's gonna really
make it pop.

- I feel like we're kinda, like,
getting there.

- My mom's a ceramicist.
- Mm-hmm.

- So I'm really wanting
to recreate

half ceramic studio/
art installation.

The judges have told me,
you know,

I need to show more passion.

And my best looks
in this competition

have all been inspired
by my upbringing,

so I think creating a room
and a space

where I really lean
into my roots,

I can show them something
with passion.

I don't know if it's possible

to get an actual
ceramic potter's wheel here.

- I was thinking, like,

she is living in a palace
in Greece.

Try to put, like,
some huge columns.

The walls can be, like, panels
of yellow.

I'm not
a really good storyteller,

and at this point
of the competition,

I'm running out of ideas.

without thinking.

I don't know what I wanna do
with this room, to be honest.

than anything I've done so far.

this picnic gown.

My game plan is just to find
this material that I have been

dying after at Mood forever.

it was more orange-y red.

- So my room is inspired
by my mom being a ceramicist.

a lot of Japanese techniques.

inspired by wabi-sabi,
which is a Japanese aesthetic.

Wabi-sabi is finding

and appreciating the beauty
in imperfection.

That's why I make hems
unfinished.

- I just mean, like...
- I need to--

It needs to be
completed properly.

- There's a way to make
an unfinished hem finished

but still look unfinished,

but with the pressure
of everything,

sometimes I haven't been able
to do that.

I'm thinking, like,
a lot of layers.

This is, like, the color story

- It's very clay-inspired.

- But I think maybe there's
other worlds, you know,

even those kind of purple-y
tones that I'm looking at.

I'm creating this geometric
sculptural dress

with diamond shapes
all over the place.

I'm gonna try to recreate
something that I make

because that was the first time
I won,

so I'm gonna try to make, like,
a new version of that design.

because I need to find a fabric

that is, like, really thick
so it will stand up.

Maybe I just have to make it
in another fabric,

in another color.

If I don't find
the right fabric,

I'm going to make things
levitate in the air

with all sorts
of structural boning.

It's going to have
a futuristic vibe,

because that's what my space
is going to be.

I definitely wanna do
some serious shoulder action.

shiny nylon-coated fabric.

I am creating
a kimono-inspired cropped jacket

with very oversized
kimono sleeves.

For the bottom of the skirt,

I'm going to weave strips
of fabric together

to give it the falling apart
decaying look.

This is definitely showing

that I can make something
a little more complex.

I'm really glad that Christian
suggested adding a pop of...

I don't know how I'm gonna make
this more thicker

so it's not gonna fold like that

and go crazy,

It only took me all day.

It looks like this weird,
twisted mess of fabric to me.

How is that even functional

- It feels messy

a split in it,

just to break it up.

from the ground,

you might not need that,
because then it, like,

actually looks like a stem.

- I used to think
that you needed to have so much

in one thing.

- Your work is already
sculptural and interesting,

and your shapes
are really interesting,

so in that case, you don't need,
you know, anything extra.

she feels like--

almost like she's gonna
fall forward in a way.

with the proportions because,

you know, the whole idea is

to include in all my garments

that's so pushed on the back,

it seems slightly elementary
on the front.

I think it's very clear

the story you've been telling
the entire competition,

- This is me at my maximalist,
which is still minimal.

I feel like I really delivered.

It's pushing the envelope for me

from what I've shown so far
in the competition,

and I feel pretty confident

a push and pull

- Well, it was intentional,
because like I say,

she's trying to live
in her dream world

because in her world,
everything was super plain.

It was gray, white.

- So she wanted more joyful
and more color in her life.

for being self-taught.

could really be something.

- This shows a lot of range.

in a design rut.

You know, you've got this
almost '40s day dress.

You've got
this kind of utility pant

and this bomber.

- And he really developed
this fashion language--

something that could be
identified by.

and take a look at Garo's.

There is a corset in every piece
except maybe this one.

- It is interesting that
that waist belt is so apparent.

- It's only apparent to you now
in this moment?

- I know, I know.
- He has no shortage of ideas.

- Totally.

- And yet he doesn't get stuck
in his ideas.

- Mm-hmm.
- He comes through

with these really
thoroughly made garments

with a lot of creativity.

- Well, I think there has been
some ups and some downs.

Listen, I was pretty harsh
on him.

There is a fine line
between kitsch and costume,

and this crossed the line.

You are only here because
you're technically very good.

- He gave us this, so I think
that was a huge improvement.

- Can he stay in that world

- I think Garo has really taken
to heart

all of our constructive
feedback, and he showed us that.

is almost the best

and she has won more challenges

in this competition
than anyone else.

When she has had immunity,
she always pushed herself,

not just, you know,
doing the same thing.

- Tessa's body of work.

Seeing her room
and her world today,

I wasn't that excited
by the clothes,

but it was an art installation
of sorts.

- For me personally, creating
the room, she was the winner.

Unfortunately, the only thing
I did wanna buy

was some of those pots.
- [ laughs ]

- I feel like one of the things
that we've always

championed about Tessa
is her taste level,

but when we have asked Tessa
to push herself

outside of her comfort zone,

I think that's where
we get this.

This isn't really her.
She won the first challenge

with this simple, refined look,

and I think
then we got a little bored.

- She's had a rough go
toward the end,

and I think she did lose
a little steam,

and I think she does have
a lot of issues.

She doesn't finish. She kinda--

She, like, kind of can teeter
on things.

But I will say, she has
a pretty defined brand here.

- She is a minimalist.

It's harder to have
this kind of fanfare

when you operate on block
and beige.

Perhaps she is
a very good designer,

but she doesn't need to have
a big runway show.

- Judges, I do not envy

the decision you guys
have to make.

It's gonna be a tough one.

- Let's get to the runway.

- All right, judges,
we need to pick a winner,

and the winner
of this challenge

has a guaranteed spot
in the final four.

- This is the most nervous
I've ever been.

- For me, the winner would be...

Sebastian because of the quality
of design.

Even with
the acid yellow room...

- [ laughs ]
- That's my number one. Yeah.

- Whew.

- I have to put up a fight
for someone else.

Garo made the best use
of the space that he was given,

and I think that this represents
sort of the culmination

of what he's capable of
as a designer.

- Garo had a wonderful room.

However, on the design versus
the room experience...

- Hmm.
- I do think that Sebastian--

his clothes
speak for themselves.

- Sebastian's room was
basically hideous.

- Yeah.
- But also at the same time,

the clothes with Garo
are very hard for me.

I didn't love the outfit today,
but the one thing I did love

was that python that he used,
I thought was so beautiful,

and there could be
something there.

- Now that we have a winner,

we need to choose
the other designers

who are gonna move on
to the final four.

- I had been pushing one person
in particular,

and that was Tessa.

I think she really gave us
an experience.

It was really rooted
in who she was.

- I think there's some kind
of a purity to her design

that I think some women like.

- I got seduced by her world,

but the reality of those clothes
is...

I'm going for the other four.

- We cannot leave
Hester Sunshine

out of the conversation.

I wasn't impressed.
I thought it was poorly made,

and does she deserve
one of those final four spots?

- I believe she does. I think
she knows who her customer is.

I think she taps into this
new creative that we are seeing.

She would put on a great show.

I have always been,
since day one,

and I continue to be charmed
by Hester Sunshine.

- For Bishme, when he does
not hit, he does not hit,

but when he hits,
he really hits, right?

- I wasn't sure of the finish,

but the color, I think,
is beautiful.

- He is someone who has proven
time and time again

that he can rise to the occasion

just like a rose
that comes from the concrete.

- Can't give up no matter what.
Honestly, you can't.

- So are we all in agreement?
We know who is moving on

to the final four.

Okay.
