given them so many of them.

while my suit's being pressed.

job at the emporium.

They need guys to
wrap Christmas gifts.

I always get my thumb

- Of course, a couple of friends
of mine cleaned up last year.

They rented a lot, bought some
Christmas trees, and sold them.

Maybe you guys could do that.

- What's the catch?

- Well, there's no catch.

You just rent a lot, buy
the trees, and sell them.

- Well, that's a catch.

Where do you get the money to
buy the trees and rent the lot?

- I have an idea.

Why don't we borrow
the money from Pop?

- Well, that doesn't seem fair
to borrow money from Pop to buy

his own Christmas present?

- The idea sounds all right to
me if he'll lend us the money.

- Suppose he doesn't?

- Well, then he gets
some more neckties,

and he has nobody to
blame but himself.

I've been an easy mark

Do you remember that diner
on 8th Street called Tomie

and Tommy's?

he'd rent it to us real cheap.

of paying the rent in advance.

We'll pay you back out of
our first day's profits.

Christmas trees.

ornament with every tree.

- Oh, and this goes over
the box of ornaments.

we could borrow the Christmas

lights from you.

You know, the ones you
string up outside the house?

- Well, what do
you want those for?

- Well, we thought
it'd be a good idea

to put them up around the lot.

You've got to have
lights up at night.

- Oh, well, gee, the only
thing, Rick, your mother

likes us to hang those
lights up every year.

She's probably going to ask
us about them any day now.

- Gee, David and I won't be
able to help you this year.

We're working.

- Oh, yeah.

Well, maybe your
mother won't mind

if we let you guys have
them just this one year.

- Thanks, Pop, but I don't
think we'll need them.

- Well, sure you will.

How are you going to sell
Christmas trees at night

without lights?

- Now we've got
a bigger problem.

- We went down to
the wholesale market,

and we couldn't get any.

cones so we could grow our own.

- They were just delivered.

The driver is going to
take them down to our lot.

And as soon as we
sell a few trees

and pay Wally's father
back, we'll be in business.

- We already paid
Wally's father back.

- Well, we got the money from
the guy who took a lot over

from us.

- You mean we don't
have a lot anymore?

- No.

- Well, holy smokes,
what'd you do that for?

- Well, we weren't sure we
were going to get any trees,

and we didn't want to
get stuck with a lot.

- Well, now we're
stuck with the trees,

and we haven't got any lot.

- Well, what do you
want me to do with them?

- Yeah, I'm afraid you'd
better take them back.

- Oh, gee, Pop, give

the backyard for a while?

wouldn't be too expensive.

She's going to spend
Christmas vacation with us.

and I wondered if your boys
could kind of introduce her

to some of their friends.

She's about David's age.

- Oh, yeah, they'd be glad to.

- Oh I'd certainly
appreciate it.

She's a real nice girl, has
a wonderful personality.

- Oh, I'm sure she has.

and she's coming to visit them
during the Christmas holidays.

And, naturally, she doesn't
know anybody in town,

be kind of a nice idea

if you boys sort of
introduced her around.

- Does our getting the
store depend on this?

- Oh, no, no, no, no.

and that's definite.
