Welcome to the season
finale of Survivor 45.

Well this has been a
season driven by a familiar

battle between two
often opposing forces.

Having the numbers you
need to control the vote

versus being loyal to the
relationships you made in the game.

But this season there's been a real emphasis
on the relationship part of that battle

and that's going to
be one of the biggest

obstacles for the final
five. Can they separate

personal from game or are
the two indistinguishable?

Once again they're going
to be starting over on a

new beach with no
shelter. Tonight we'll have

two immunity challenges,
two tribal councils,

one fire making showdown.
Then the final three

will face the jury and
we will crown a winner

of Survivor 45 and
immediately go into the after

show while they're still
raw and we're still here

in the jungles of Fiji.
All right our final five.

We'll have Jordan and
Jake who will be the sole

survivor and go home
with the million dollar

check that goes along with it.

a stack of bamboo pieces.

Race to count the number
of items at each station,

then use those three numbers to open a
combination lock and retrieve your advantage.

When you reach the combination
lock, you get one guess.

If wrong, you must race
back to each station.

before making another guess.

The first player to solve
it earns the advantage.

We don't really
know where to go.

So I just start running.

And it's far.

I have very minimal room for error,
because these guys will all outrun me.

I've already had an uphill
battle in this game, but

if I win this challenge today,
my stock shoots way up.

These are not near each other whatsoever.

This is a little bit of an expedition.

Counting is so hard when you're
starving and you're exhausted,

but Dee and I help each other out.

stuck on the coconuts.

and forth, literally at
far ends of the beach,

and I just want to be like,
"Oh, my God, I give up.

" But today's challenge and
tonight's vote is the most monumental

time in the game, so I
told myself, "You must

keep going," and that's
exactly what I'm doing.

The bamboo is, like, so hard because
they're all stacked different ways.

Too hard.

and I am first to the lock.

The worst is every time you guess it wrong,

you have to go back to a station
to recount and then come back,

so everyone's getting it wrong.

My strategy going into this is that I know

if I get an exact number,
I got to remember it.

So when I come up with a number,

I match it to what
survivor won that season.

So I count 18 crabs.

you solve a combination lock,

which will release a set of keys.

Then you gotta climb to the top of a
tall tower where you will use those keys

to unlock and then solve
a three-tier Survivor puzzle.

voted out of this season of Survivor.

to place a bull on a perch.

Once you get a bull, you
go back and get another one.

Here's what's going to make it tricky.

The entire structure is
connected to that perch.

So if you hit a rope just a little
too hard, that perch will wobble.

Your bulls will drop.

You'll have to start again.

First person to finish wins immunity.

Guaranteed a spot at
that final tribal council

where you will get a chance
to plead your case to your jury

about why you deserve
the title of sole survivor

and the million dollar
check that goes along with it.

In addition, as you know,
you also have power

because you decide who you
put in that second seat next to you

and who you force to make fire
to earn that third and final seat.

Biggest stakes of the season.

right away, Jake pulled me aside.

She basically told me that she doesn't
feel comfortable sitting beside me

in the final three, that she
believes that I've, you know,

made a lot more moves
than other people realize,

and she's afraid of me talking at the end.

How does that feel,

to have somebody tell you
that they see your strengths,

they see the game you played,

even though you are and
could be her competition?

I have mixed feelings,

because my game has
been to hide my strengths.

Dee has had the privilege of being,

you know, by my side for a few of them,
and so she does know some of them.

And at this point, I kept my moves hidden
so that I wouldn't end up on the jury,

and it's actually backfired,
because now today, I'm making fire.

Austin, what was your chat with Dee like?

Right now, I feel pretty
good with my fire making.

I kind of told her, like,
put me in, I'd be happy,

but understandably, I don't think
she really wants to do that right now.

Why?

Well, I mean, it's just -- it's another
thing, like a potential move to be made.

it's like you come to Survivor

to be able to pitch your story

It's a common approach
is to build a little

Kelly, from the moment that I met her,

I knew, man, this girl's going to be
hard to beat if she makes it to the end.

I think, indeed, she had
the social relationships

where people were

I've never met a more free spirit than
Kendra, and she just lives life her way,

and I think that's something that
very few people in this world have.

Austin played an extremely great game,

coming in as a big threat,
as a big physical player,

creating strong alliances.

Never getting your name written down.

And also, he took Survivor by
the horns and played this game.

Like, I just think that is so badass.

He's just, like, a fountain of
deep knowledge of the game.

You know, he came back for a reason.

Jake was the most lied-to
and gaslit person in this game.

Everybody treated him like a pawn.

And he said to himself, "I can either let
that ruin my game, or I can roll with it.

" And there's a reason why
he's sitting in the final three,

because he was always a
number that everybody needed.

Nobody could actually get rid of Jake.

We all talked about getting rid of Jake,

but nobody could get rid
of Jake because if Jake left,

their game was gone.

I really think he could be a dark horse.

Drew.

He is one of the coolest people ever.

Like, he's so interesting.

He was one of the few people in this
game that I trusted 100% with everything.

Drew wins! Yes!

It makes me, like,
emotional talking about him

because we just had
such a close friendship.

Austin is my main man,
and I am rooting for him.

He walked through every barrier in
front of him, and the guy never got a vote.

I mean, there were ways
in which he was invincible.

Even when things didn't go his
way, he walked out unscathed.

And you really have to appreciate that.

Austin made it to the
end through determination.

Mama Julie.

My God, she's my best friend.

I feel like I have two mothers now.

Like, it's that deep.

It's that deep with me and Julie.

Dee, I think we can go for her.

I know we can.

I really do.

And she was a good frickin' player.

Like, she could relate to
every single person on this tribe.

Dee decided, "I'm gonna find my alliance,

and I'm gonna make it work.

" And that's an
amazing game plan.

She insulated herself with people that
had her back, and she was rock solid.

You're gonna play Idle, and
we're both gonna put it on Emily.

She risked her game to keep me alive.

That's huge.

She played such a different
game from the rest of us.

She was always on

She was so good at
getting people to talk to her

and telling people what they needed

who had the strongest gameplay overall,

who can show that even when
they were focused on relationships,

I busted my ass so hard
that I broke a challenge.

Like, I had a lot of moments
of sadness out here.

mean? So it was like.

I didn't know I was
gonna be playing this

game until 72 hours
before we hit the beach.

I was the alternate on the season.

So I just wanted to do
absolutely everything.

When I found the beware advantage
on day two, it was, like, open it up.

I don't care.

Like, let's do this.

If I get voted out, whatever.

I ate everything that,
like, I possibly can.

You know, earthworms, eyeballs, anything.

Sea cucumber.

If it's given to me, like, I want
to do everything I possibly can.

You know, watching myself, like, develop
and just trying to just digest everything,

that's kind of the mentality
that I've just been bringing on,

just experience the most that I can and just
have a great time and meet great people.

Absolutely.

and think about facing your fears.

What's a moment or moments
that you've had in this game

that terrified you or
made you extremely fearful

and that you pushed through
and conquered them anyway?

And we can start with Austin.

I think the biggest
thing I was scared about

is the whole, I mean, like,
blindside things of things.

Like, when you get close to
people and having to lie to their face,

that was the thing I
was most worried about.

You know, the vote against Julie
at the very end was really hard.

Like, I wrote her name down three times,

but the third time I wrote down her
name was the hardest time for me

because it felt like this
was actually my decision.

And my heart was
like, "Don't do it.

" And it was hard, but I
think that was something

that I wasn't able to do
a vote or two before that.

I'm going to continue on Austin's answer
because I feel like I'm the same way.

For me, I was extremely
fearful of blindsiding

or even betraying
anyone in my alliance.

My two number ones was Julie and Austin,

and I never had to vote her out.

I never had to vote him out.

And the moment that Julie
knew she was going home,

Austin told me, you know, I had already
brought her along as much as I could.

But at that point, I'm like, "Man,

it might be the time
that Julie's going home.

" And I ended up telling
Austin, I'm like, "Look, Austin,

I'm going to be there
with you to support you.

Whatever you decide to do, I'm just
not going to write her name down.".

So, going through lockdown,
going through law school,

like, there's a lot of
pressure of, like, failing out.

And, like, one of, like, my big
fears has always been, like, failing.

And that's something that happens on Survivor
because not everything goes your way.

And so...

just to fail and, like,
know that I was okay

and that I got right back up
and I started smiling again

and, like, I really tackled a real
field of failure in this game for me.

And I'm not -- I'm not afraid.

I'm not afraid of it.

That was beautiful, Jake.

I mean, all of you, that was perfect.

So, Dean Austin,

you talked about this
kind of core four of RIBA,

which Julie and I might
have some insight into,

but is really, like, a
mystery for a lot of the jury.

How did it stay together?

How did it function?

Clarify a little bit for everyone what
you brought to the core four of RIBA

and how that made the
alliance so successful.

Okay, I'll start.

So, I love this alliance
'cause it was the four

of us and we stuck
through it the entire time

and we would have a bunch of,
like, honest and open conversations

and then from there we
would vote together, honestly.

I can't sit here and say that
I pulled most of the moves.

To be completely fair,

I really had a lot of luck in this game.

Being put in RIBA, I had a
huge advantage over all of you.

It's just the truth.

I agree with most of that.

We were very close.

We did share all the information together.

We had our own kind of little setback.

We were on separate webs.

But that said, I feel like I
was a big reason for that.

You know, during these tribal challenges,

I would give 120%, throwing
the coconuts, climbing

up the wall, doing the big
puzzles as well with Drew.

I felt that Dee was viewed
as a really big threat.

And because of that, I
think she was in more of a

state of, "I need to just
make it to the next boat,"

not, "How can I set up
the alliance to be able

to be, you know,
stronger towards the end?"

You mentioned that I was scared because
I was being seen as a threat, which I was.

I've heard my name come up.

But I wasn't really scared, honestly,

because I had a core alliance.

And I knew that they
weren't gonna vote me out.

And that's how strong my social game was.

And then my strategic
moves came in in that

tribe swap once Drew
and Austin went away.

And then from there on, I played a
role in every single moment after that.

Dee mentioned that her strategic moves
happened when there was that tribe swap.

When I was in the tribe swap,

that's when we really had
to make strategic moves.

I had to go in with Drew,

where there was two Reba,
two Bello, and one Lulu.

So we were able to not
only take one out from

Bello but strengthen
Reba by bringing in Emily.

So then afterwards,

I think my biggest move in
the game was the Kelly vote.

And that goes back straight to the amulet.

I sold this idea that, you know, "I
just really want these sandwiches.

" I knew we were
gonna get these amulets.

So not only did I upgrade my first
idol, but I also upgraded my amulet.

Afterwards, Kendra, I sent you home

because all I needed was
you and Bruce to be gone.

And then I felt really comfortable that I
would make it here on this spot in the end.

So, yes, you did bring in
Emily, but I also brought

in Keturah, so this
was a cumulative effort.

And then, also, Austin mentioned
that the Kendra vote, it was his idea.

And I'm so sorry, but the reason was

because I kept seeing you go and talk to
Austin and Drew all the time at the beach,

and then Kendra's out here
saying that I have a crush on Austin,

and then I'm like, "I need
this girl out of here "'cause

she's bringing in the drama,
"and I can't have her in my game,

"and she's trying to take my men away
from me, "and I need them right now.

" So I told them,
"I want Kendra out.

" I just wanted to clarify that.

Yes, my ultimate goal was just to make sure

I was always the most
insulated player in this game.

I was the only person to have
never gotten their name written down.

My moves to get us on
the numbers was ultimately

what led everything else
to happen afterwards.

Flip side.

Of course.

At one point in this game, I said,

"Heart doesn't win Survivor.

" Sabaya corrected me.

She said, "Heart alone
doesn't win Survivor.

" Austin brought up great points that you've
made strategic, brain-based decisions.

But, Dee, I need to hear from you.

One succinct, simple example of a time

where you made a decision
using your brain, not your heart.

Do you have any of those?

So my heart and my
brain, they're not separate.

It's the same.

And that's how I make my moves.

I can't really say that I
just played a strategic game

and I didn't use my heart
because I actually think

that that's a downfall,
being too strategic,

because people want
to pull these big moves.

I don't care about that.

The game is gonna play itself out.

I just need to focus on
building my relationships.

And my strategic moves will
come from my relationships.

And the biggest
strategy that I knew that I

would have in this game
was just being authentic.

And I think it showed.

for how much fight you had throughout

what did you do that I
couldn't do, you know?

How did you get so deep into the game

as somebody who was so
on the outs after my vote?

Like, what was working?

So, obviously, I did everything I
could to try to keep you in the game.

It was a failed move.

But right after you got voted out,

I really tried to focus
on the relationships

to the point where people
didn't want to vote me out.

But I really think that kind of undersells

the game that you played.

You know, don't sell yourself short.

You continued to make
and attempt big moves.

And I think it's something
we all really admired.

Was there a method
to the madness? Yeah.

So, like, the vote
with you, Drew,

it was a situation where
I know a lot of attorneys

who have been working for
30-plus years and don't speak

as well as you do, but I was
just really impressed by you.

And I would argue that my
big swings didn't always work,

but I don't think these two
tried to make a big swing.

I think they got comfortable
in an alliance of four,

but I was taking cracks
every opportunity I had.

go through advantages

and idols 'cause we
brought the amulet up.

Austin, you made the
correct call in taking me out.

It was absolutely the correct move,

which is why I was
nervous and should have

listened to my gut, but
neither here nor there.

What is the execution of those
advantages that you found?

Obviously, it's really cool to
make a flashy move with an idol,

but I think it's equally as cool

to not even need to use
your idol to stay in in the game.

I never end up having to use my idol.

Either of them, I guess,
you know, I gave it to Julie.

I tried flushing that.

To push back on that, though, you
did let your number one get voted out

while you had an idol in your
pocket that you played on yourself.

I did.

You know, if Drew was sitting
next to me, I would have loved that,

but we would have been
splitting votes for sure, you know?

It would not have been
the right play, to be honest.

Now that the Drew blindside is
coming up, I could have let Austin know,

but I didn't tell him about
that because I knew that

if I told him, he would try
to save his number one.

But his number one is a threat to my game,

so I didn't tell you about Drew,

and that was the first time
that Austin was left out.

Even though I didn't find
idols, I didn't find advantages,

knowing all the information was just as
important as having an idol in my pocket,

if not even more important,
because look at Bruce.

He had an idol.

I did.

You did?

Well, damn, Bruce, you
should have played it.

But anyways...

I just want to give Jake an opportunity.

about idols' advantages in your game.

Yeah, so I found an idol.

I think we all saw it.

I don't know.

So I tried to make people think
that I would play it on myself.

Obviously, I don't think anyone knew
what was going on at the final five vote.

But that was my plan with the idol,

to make people think that I
was going to be safe that night,

and I was hoping to take
Katora to the next round.

What essentially happened was,

I felt I was going to get votes.

I got afraid and said, "I don't trust Jake.

He's not giving me the heads-up.

" So why play it on me and not tell
me that you were going to play it on me?

Yeah, because your genuine
reaction of thinking that you

weren't safe and you might
get votes is what I wanted.

I thought it would make a
better impression on the jury.

Julie, how about you?

My question is for Dee and Austin.

I'm just going to state an obvious that,

I don't know, maybe
y'all are in a showmance.

I would like to know.

Like, are you surprised?

I'd like to know more about that.

Is it real?

And how did this influence your game play?

I'll answer first.

For me, it was real.

Obviously, he's an attractive man,

so I'm going to look.

And, you know, I'm sure
a lot of you can see that.

But I genuinely liked him as a person
and as a player, I respected his moves.

But yeah, it did develop later
on, which wasn't strategic.

It just was natural.

And then strategic just
ended up coming into play.

Yeah.

I don't know.

Something started
happening around day 20 or so.

It definitely was a real thing.

It wasn't a strategic thing.

We were playing to win this game.

Like, I knew voting you out would hurt her.

She knew voting Drew out would hurt me.

But we were willing to make those moves

because it was best for
our own individual games.

Can I push back on that? Yeah.

Because the time where I was blindsided,

we had made the decision
previously to vote out Julie,

and the decision was made to not tell
Dee for exactly the reason that happened,

which was Dee told Julie
and Julie wrote my name down.

So do you feel like it was a
sign of weakness on your part

that you allowed a
strong ally to be voted out

because you couldn't keep a secret from
somebody who you were clearly close with?

So from what I understand,

the reason why Julie found
out was not because of Dee.

Dee never told Julie.

So I felt really badly that
you ended up going home.

But it didn't make a
difference for your game.

But in the end, I don't think it
made a difference in my game.

And can I say something?

Austin sat me down on the
beach and was like, "Dee, it's time.

Like, I think we're all
thinking of taking Julie out.

How do you feel about that?"

And I just agreed to it.

You don't know this, but I did tell Julie.

But I knew that she had an idol.

And the moment that
everyone spread out, I told Julie,

I wasn't sure how that was
going because it was clear that,

even though all three of
you were making great cases,

I could feel that ebbing and flowing.

Kendra, did you come in
with an idea, and did it shift?

I came in open-minded tonight.

And, you know, I knew that
there was going to be kind of,

like, this toss-up back and forth, and I
literally was standing up there saying,

"I didn't think it was going
to be this hard to make a

decision," because these
guys absolutely -- Jake, too.

You all knocked it out of the park tonight.

I could feel all of us
shifting back and forth

with every single answer
from these two all night long.

I went back and forth consistently.

Kelly, you're nodding.

Yeah, I mean, that was completely
reflective of my experience.

I think we all come in with, like,
a slight inclination either way.

And for me, what I wanted to
see in the final tribal was the

fire, was the fight, was them
kind of coming at each other,

especially in this little
mystery relationship over here.

And I -- It's a mystery!

So let's just -- Yeah,
can I comment?

Like, I was, like, as soon as, like,
that was over, I knew I was out of it.

But, like, I was thinking,
"Who am I voting for?"

I was like, "I think I
might end up going.

" And you started reading the votes, and
I'm like, "Oh, jeez, I think I'm going.".

So, Emily, let's go back
to the opening moments on

the barge when everybody's
being their friendly self,

and you immediately pick a fight and say,

"Listen, I'm going to
say what's on my mind.

" I'll push back
against Bruce a little bit.

You know, I think it's
really in his advantage

to come out here and
say, "Look, I'm just like you.

I'm like everyone.

" But we've all
been looking at him.

We recognize his face.

He's had the experience leading up to this.

He is in some way more mentally prepared,

even if he hasn't physically
experienced it, than we are right now.

Was that the beginning
of you slowly getting

some life lessons from
people who didn't know you then

that altered how you played
the rest of the game? 100%.

And for the first 3, 4,
18 years, 15 days as

Survivor, I continued to
put my foot in my mouth,

and I'm extremely thankful for the people
that were around me during part of this,

because when somebody
holds a mirror up to you,

you can't just close your eyes and look
away and be like, "I'm gonna ignore that.

" You have to look, and
it might be hard at points,

but you learn a little bit
about yourself, and maybe you

can, you know, fix your hair
or something in the process.

One of the biggest reactions I've
ever seen at Tribal Council happened

when Caleb played his shot
in the dark, and it worked.

Caleb, you are...

safe.

Caleb, what do you
remember about that moment?

I don't remember any of it.

I was just sitting here,

and then you read all the votes,

and it was literally every
single person voting for me.

It's so funny, coming into the game, I was
like, "I'm the luckiest person I know.".

There was no way that all of this thing
that happened to Survivor could hurt me,

and I could not believe
everything that worked against me.

It felt like the entire game.

But I tried to have as
much fun with it as possible.

It was cool to make a
little history in the process.

Hell yeah.

So I want to dive into something that was
talked about a lot from the jury tonight.

This season, more than
any I can remember in a

long time, really did
center around relationships

and secrets within the relationships.

We had Austin and Drew.

We had Drew as a primary relationship,

and we had Julie and Dee
as a primary relationship,

and then, amazingly, we had the lovebirds
in the middle as the third relationship.

Dee and Austin.

So, Austin, how did it feel to
learn that in a couple of situations,

in one, Dee took information
and used it, and in the

other, she had information
and didn't give it to you?

You know, I mean...

I guess girls are better at playing
guys than the other way around, I think.

to play a really strategic game,

driven all the way,

and yet this was okay to happen.

Were you concerned about
the risk of people seeing it?

Honestly, I wasn't concerned because it
wasn't something that happened right away.

But I think the moment
that it kind of, like,

flipped was the tribe swap
when him and Drew left.

And, like, four days
went by, and I was like,

"Oh, I wonder
what Austin's doing.

" -Oh, my God!
-I was like, "Honestly?" Like, I.

.. Whatever. It's the truth.

And... But honestly, I,
like, I actually missed him.

And I'm like, "Why am I missing this guy

that I have known for X
amount of days," right?

But I didn't come on Survivor
to find anything, you know?

I've been single for two years,
so I am ready for something.

And I think that it happened

because at the point that we
were kind of, like, getting closer,

it was already too late for everybody else.

I could read a lot in this game.

I saw that coming.

-That's one Jake got right. -Damn.

-Thank you. -That's one that I got wrong.

- -I don't know.

So, Dee, one thing that you
talked a lot about out here

was your family and the
reason you were out here.

You fulfilled that goal.

You won a million dollars.

Jeff, I had to win.
There was no other option for me.

Because I came on Survivor to retire my
parents and take care of my loved ones.

And I was born in Cuba,
immigrated to the U.S.

Like, my parents have
been through so damn

much, I knew that I was
gonna take care of them.

I knew it. And I knew
that I was either gonna

be a millionaire myself
or marry a millionaire.

And I swear it's the truth.

And I'm so frickin' grateful that I am
the person that became that, you know?

And I know my parents are
gonna be so damn proud.

Because before I left,
I wrote them letters.

And in the letter, I
told them, "I'm leaving.

Don't miss me. I'm
coming back as a winner.

" And I know already that
you guys are proud of me.

I know that I'm not doing this
for you guys to be proud of me.

I'm doing this to take care of you guys.

And the million dollars
is just gonna make me

more of a giver because
that's who I already am.

And I'm proud of that.

And I feel like that's why I won this game.

well, and it was great,

but you still had these great,
delicious, vicious blindsides.

Kelly, the night of your
blindside, everybody was stunned.

I don't think you remember much.

You seem like you sort of blacked out.

I did black out, Jeff, 100%.

Apparently, I said, "What the hell, guys?"

I don't remember saying that at all.

Initially, I knew that my name
had already been thrown around

as a big threat, which
I was like, "I am 5'4".

I'm a freaking nurse.

Like, are you kidding me, guys?

I'm the smallest person on this cast.

Why am I the huge threat?"

But I'm honored to
have been the first

vicious blindside,
even though it did hurt.

Bruce, you, too, had a blindside.

A little different situation, 'cause
you had the power to save yourself.

So what happened?

I was looking you dead in the face,

and I did not know what I wanted to do.

I really did not.

So even as I came up and asked if
anybody has an advantage or an idol--

Even as you came up and asked, I'm looking
at you, and I'm like, "Wait a minute.

" So the person that blew
me up at the marooning.

was so convincing to me.

So Emily persuaded you that you were okay.

She did.

So, Emily, you persuaded Bruce.

You did your job.

You got him to not play the idol.

Was your mistake then in
telling people, "That was me"?

Yes.

So I wanted credit for
a move that's entirely

my own, and I was
proud of myself for that.

And Bruce is an incredible sport.

I did him dirty on the marooning.

I lied to his face, voted him out,

celebrated voting him out, took credit
for it, and then my butt went home next.

Drew, you were on the end of a blindside.

Were you aware enough
to feel it and remember it?

I was, Jeff, was the time.

One thing is that I
had waltzed all through

camp that day like a
king, and I was humiliated.

But almost immediately
after, I was grateful, too,

because, like, to be blindsided
is in many ways a badge of honor.

It means that you were a threat.

And even though, you know,
my Reba family did divorce me,

like, I was so happy
with those relationships.

that it didn't end up mattering.

So, Drew, I got to ask,
I loved your analogies

and clever quips and
your literary references.

I do envision a time when my
realm will stretch to the whole beach.

First, a historical reference.

When the philosopher
Hegel first met Napoleon,

she's hanging on to greedily,
like, Gollum to the ring.

It's like a sort of Damocles situation
where you don't have the necklace.

I felt like the nerd who
accidentally walked into a frat party.

Where did these references come from?

Well, the thing is, Jeff, is
that, like, in the real world, not

in survival world, I spent all
my time reading at the library.

Like, it's all I do.

And so out here on
Survivor, I want to attempt to,

like, be relatable and
talk about, like, sports,

but at the same time, there are
certain things I can't leave behind.

You know, like, my tall
height and my bad eyesight

and also my love of,
like, literature and history.

And so much of Survivor
is trying to, like, fit in.

But those quirks that don't fit in a
lot of times can add to the group, too.

a few alternates that

end up on the show, but
the way Survivor works,

we typically bring, like, a couple of
people out just in case something happens.

It rarely does.

But Tina in Survivor
Australia was an alternate,

went on to win the game.

didn't win but did very well,

was very popular with people.

You didn't find out until the last moment
that you were gonna be on the show.

That night, like, I couldn't
eat, I couldn't sleep,

and then it's like, I have 72
hours to mentally prepare myself,

but I think it was almost better for me

because it didn't let me
get too much into my head.

go out first, I might go out second.

Like, you play a little bit scared,

but when I got out there, like,
that wasn't really a thought.

I was like, I'm just playing.

I got to go aggressive.

It's all borrowed time.

I'm playing on house money, and, like,
every time that there was an opportunity

to do anything, like eat
a fisheye or whatever,

I was like, you know, I would
never have had this opportunity.

So I'm gonna take that, and
I'm gonna enjoy the most of this.

So, Julie, you were very
open, even during casting,

that you're in a second phase of your life.

Why was Survivor important
in this part of your journey?

So, Survivor was extremely important.

Now, everything that I've told this
cast has been absolutely the truth.

I'm 49, muralist, artist, my kids.

What I didn't say is that at the age of 40,

when I found myself a single mom,

um, I went to law school.

Oh!

So, I've been an attorney for
the last four and a half years.

So, I was doing
everything that I was telling

y'all in addition to going
to Knight Law School.

That was 2015, Second Chance, Cambodia.

And I'm in my second chance of life.

And I just went, "I'm
gonna be on Survivor.

" I love that.

Amazing.

Wow.

All right, I want to just talk
in general about the auction.

It was fun to have the auction back.

Was it fun to be a part
of it? It was amazing.

cake thing with the hands, with the timer.

Like, I remember Ceri in
Micronesia back in, like, 2008 doing it.

And I got to be the dude to go do that.

Like, that's awesome, man.

Jake, you saw from the jury tonight,

you got a lot of respect
from everybody saying,

"Dude, you hung in
there every single day.

" So is there anything
that you're gonna take away

from this experience that will influence
how you deal with the young people

that you deal with in
your life as a prosecutor?

Yeah, no, I'm not a public defender.

I'm a prosecutor.

but we're all in this kind of
middle threshold stage of our lives.

experience that could

than "Survivor.

All of us did it.

It was a Hail Mary for everybody.

And six months later, a year later,

some of us are a million dollars richer,

but all of us had such
a wonderful adventure.
