difficult estimation of burns.

Estimating the percentage of burns
on the body is vital in determining

whether the patient needs an urgent
transfer to a specialist burns unit.

not the fire one, but there's

a burns one with head to toe
burned by oil.

from the flat fire has now been

But he was unconscious
when we pulled him out.

A severe burn injury is classed
as a burn which covers more

than 15% of the body.

with potential for burns.

getting worse as time goes on.

Blistering down his
face, down his front.

Down both knees.

And we've got nothing
on his back at the minute.

So I'm just going to give
him some pain relief.

I'm going to have some
morphine drawn up and get

these burns dressed.

Morphine then.

Luke, I know this is cold
and horrible, but its just

to help your burns.

Cooling with the hosepipe
for about six to seven minutes

and now just the burns dressing.

We've got some here.

Did they speak to yourself en
route about Whiston?

Yeah, Whiston or Wythenshawe.

Wythenshawe has got a burns imminent
so they have asked us if he's stable

and can he go to Whiston.

That's just some morphine,
just to help with your pain.

I don't know yet, we'll
have a better assessment.

It's more on his leg,
it's into his leg.

The crew must wait 20 minutes
after cooling treatment is applied

to assess the extent of blistering
and grade the burn.

and air, some pain relief?

I hate clingfilm at best of times.

Covering burns in clingfilm
and cooling gels also reduces

the chance of infection.

I know you're cold, we're going

We've got GCS of 15,
burns to the face and lower legs.

Obs are currently stable and he's
getting some morphine.

So we're just waiting
for an update where they're

going to take this patient.
