- Well, I am struggling
with the decision

of whether or not
to have a child.

- My husband is a lot more
ready than I am,

and I don't feel that way
at all.

a dad throwing a football
or something,

And I'll see a kid do something
and I'll be like,

I'm not ready to be a parent."

and just say,

"Well, maybe you're not meant
to be one."

And then I'm like,

I guess in a nutshell,
I'm trying to figure out

if I am just simply not maternal

or if my decision
is rooted

in fear or anxiety.

- Were you raised here?

- Yes.
I was raised in the South.

- Did your mom work?
- Yes.

- She did?
- She did.

And she was not a cookie baker
or costume maker.

- Was she a role mode for you
as a parent?

- Yes, she's just a role model
for me in general.

Like, I can't say enough
good things about my mom.

My mom was not a typical
Southern woman.

I mean, she had my sister and I
in her 30s,

which back then, you know, that
was considered a lot older.

- So when you think of having
a child,

are you gaining something
or are you giving up something?

- I feel like I'm giving up
something.

Everybody I talk to,
they say,

"Your life will change,"

and I think,
"But I love my life.

I don't want it to change."

And so I feel like
having a child

is a potential
for something to go wrong.

- So you'll feel like
you don't have control.

- Yes, I freak out if I'm not
in control of a situation.

Like, I have problems
being a passenger in a car

unless I, like,
know who I'm riding with,

and I know when you have
a child, like,

you have to give up control
in your life.

Just thinking about it,
I start to feel anxiety.

- So when did the anxiety start?

- Uh...probably middle school.

- What was going on
in your life at that time?

- My parents divorced.
- Okay.

As a child in an adult world,
we don't have a lot of control.

Unconsciously, you carry that
into your adult world.

- I'm not saying that
my parents' divorce

did not affect my life at all.

Absolutely, it did.

But I'm 31 years old.

I've evolved past
the high school days.

- Things that affect us
in childhood drive our lives.

- Okay.

- So I really do want to go
back around childhood,

around the time that things

weren't going well
at home and stuff.

- Okay.

with him at this house with
his mom there and everything.

a house of her own up there.

- Yeah, I think Dad showed me
how to do it.

The house is stunning.

I really think this house
has a chance

to even impress

- You know, my sisters
have always looked up to me,

and I am the oldest,

and now I'm sort of trailing
behind both of them.

Lockhart is actually
gonna be here

in Charleston in a few weeks,

so I've gotta get
all of this together

so I can present it to him.

create a prototype

of what you want this to be.

He made it very clear he didn't
want Thomas to know anything,

so whenever it leaked out
that we hooked up,

I just left it at that.

I didn't, like,
explain to Thomas

the fact that it wasn't just
a "hook up

and go home the next day"
type situation.
