You have five forces to apply. 00:04:41.645 --> 00:04:44.838 This is the first, the force of resolution. 00:04:44.838 --> 00:04:49.677 Set a strong intention, a strong resolution in the morning. 00:04:49.677 --> 00:04:53.193 So this you have to apply this right in the morning, 00:04:53.193 --> 00:04:55.290 as soon as you open your eyes, 00:04:55.290 --> 00:04:57.354 as soon as you wake up, you open your eyes. 00:04:57.354 --> 00:04:59.580 Before doing anything else, 00:04:59.580 --> 00:05:03.419 you just hook up with your mind and set your resolution. 00:05:03.419 --> 00:05:06.193 So, right now also this morning I'm alive. 00:05:06.193 --> 00:05:10.870 I have all the favorable circumstances in my life, 00:05:10.870 --> 00:05:13.580 all the freedoms and endowment in order to progress 00:05:13.580 --> 00:05:15.935 in practice in the path to enlightenment 00:05:15.935 --> 00:05:18.225 to benefit all sentient beings. 00:05:18.225 --> 00:05:22.387 Therefore, as much as I can, throughout the day, 00:05:22.387 --> 00:05:26.548 I'm not going to let my mind be under the power of delusions 00:05:26.548 --> 00:05:29.451 and I'm not going to harm any sentient beings 00:05:29.451 --> 00:05:33.387 and I'm going to be as helpful as possible to all sentient beings. 00:05:34.487 --> 00:05:36.088 The Five Forces 1.The Force of Resolution 00:05:36.290 --> 00:05:42.064 So now the next is the force of the white seed. 00:05:42.064 --> 00:05:44.451 The force of the white seed 00:05:44.451 --> 00:05:48.129 is the aim of achieving the supreme enlightenment 00:05:48.129 --> 00:05:51.870 in order to benefit all mother sentient beings and oneself. 00:05:51.870 --> 00:05:54.483 For oneself and other purposes, 00:05:54.483 --> 00:05:58.645 engaging as much as possible throughout the day in practice 00:05:58.645 --> 00:06:04.096 to purify the previously accumulated negative potentials of karma. 00:06:04.096 --> 00:06:10.387 And accumulating virtuous actions, or merits, what we call merits. 00:06:10.387 --> 00:06:13.258 So these are called the white seed. 00:06:17.064 --> 00:06:22.064 So what is the best way then to quickly accumulate merits 00:06:22.064 --> 00:06:27.322 without making so much effort? Rejoice. 00:06:27.322 --> 00:06:30.838 Rejoicing is an incredible, beneficial practice. 00:06:30.838 --> 00:06:35.290 It allows you to accumulate such a huge mass of merits 00:06:35.290 --> 00:06:40.612 just with the force of your thought without engaging in any physical 00:06:40.612 --> 00:06:45.483 or strenuous difficult practices or activities. 00:06:45.483 --> 00:06:49.516 Just rejoicing of the virtues accumulated by others, 00:06:49.516 --> 00:06:52.612 by oneself and others, it becomes extremely powerful, 00:06:52.612 --> 00:06:56.483 to swiftly complete the accumulation of merits 00:06:56.483 --> 00:06:59.838 without so much struggle. You rejoice of your virtues. 00:06:59.870 --> 00:07:02.161 You rejoice of other people's virtues. 00:07:02.161 --> 00:07:04.419 You rejoice of the virtues of the bodhisattvas, 00:07:04.419 --> 00:07:07.483 of the Buddhas, of the Gurus. 00:07:07.483 --> 00:07:15.322 The more you think in detail and are vast in rejoicing thoughts, 00:07:15.322 --> 00:07:18.451 the merits keep accumulating and accumulating. 00:07:18.451 --> 00:07:20.612 This is a very good practice. 00:07:20.612 --> 00:07:25.387 If you undertake, whatever, even the smallest positive action you do, 00:07:25.387 --> 00:07:31.612 it acts as purifier for those previously accumulated negative karma. 00:07:31.612 --> 00:07:35.645 More specifically, there are lots of very powerful practices 00:07:35.645 --> 00:07:38.419 and techniques such as doing prostrations, 00:07:38.419 --> 00:07:45.032 taking refuge, reciting what is called the tung shag, 00:07:45.032 --> 00:07:47.387 the general confession practice, 00:07:47.387 --> 00:07:51.354 the practice related to the 35 Buddhas, 00:07:51.354 --> 00:07:54.935 Vajrasattva meditation and recitation, 00:07:54.935 --> 00:07:58.709 even just the mantra and so on and so forth. 00:07:58.709 --> 00:08:02.322 and the third is the force of familiarity. 00:08:02.322 --> 00:08:07.645 It means that you constantly have to take to your mind 00:08:07.645 --> 00:08:10.451 the practices of the path to enlightenment, 00:08:10.451 --> 00:08:13.290 especially the steps to generate bodhicitta 00:08:13.290 --> 00:08:16.548 and as well as purifying, accumulating merits 00:08:16.548 --> 00:08:20.387 until it becomes spontaneous for you, 00:08:20.387 --> 00:08:23.258 it is not a contrived thought. 00:08:23.258 --> 00:08:25.645 You have to bring it to your mind constantly 00:08:25.645 --> 00:08:32.741 so you become so familiar with that particular kind of attitude 00:08:32.741 --> 00:08:38.774 and behavior that you constantly are reminded of the path to enlightenment. 00:08:38.774 --> 00:08:42.548 So this is the force of familiarity. 00:08:43.709 --> 00:08:48.419 So the fourth is the force or the power of rejection. 00:08:48.419 --> 00:08:52.225 And this, in general, it refers to all types of delusions. 00:08:52.225 --> 00:08:57.096 So always keep a constant awareness of delusions 00:08:57.096 --> 00:09:00.451 and their disadvantages for you in order to eliminate them. 00:09:00.451 --> 00:09:04.774 But particularly be mindful of self-cherishing thought, of egoism, 00:09:04.774 --> 00:09:09.161 and the power of rejection is, 00:09:09.161 --> 00:09:15.580 do not let yourself be taken under the power of self-cherishing thought 00:09:15.580 --> 00:09:18.354 from now on as much as you can. 00:09:18.354 --> 00:09:21.129 So this is the power of rejection. 00:09:21.129 --> 00:09:24.903 So now the force of prayer or dedication. 00:09:24.903 --> 00:09:27.354 So at the time just before going to sleep, 00:09:27.354 --> 00:09:29.774 then you apply the last force. 00:09:29.774 --> 00:09:31.838 All right, you review your day 00:09:31.838 --> 00:09:34.838 on the basis of your first determination in the morning. 00:09:34.838 --> 00:09:37.516 So what happened today? 00:09:37.516 --> 00:09:40.387 Did I accumulate any non-virtuous actions, 00:09:40.387 --> 00:09:44.064 was I taken under the power of delusions? 00:09:44.064 --> 00:09:47.000 Did I accumulate virtuous actions? 00:09:47.000 --> 00:09:49.580 Was I able to apply the antidotes 00:09:49.580 --> 00:09:54.354 and to overcome self-cherishing thought and so on and so forth. 00:09:54.354 --> 00:09:57.709 So, you have to analyze very sincerely. 00:09:57.709 --> 00:10:01.161 focus on whatever negativities I've accumulated today. 00:10:01.161 --> 00:10:03.677 today I've done it for this and this and this. 00:10:03.677 --> 00:10:07.741 Therefore, I'm going to purify right now, 00:10:07.741 --> 00:10:12.129 and tomorrow I will be more mindful. 00:10:12.129 --> 00:10:14.548 You make a strong determination, 00:10:14.548 --> 00:10:18.548 Again tomorrow, I'm not going to repeat the same mistake. 00:10:18.548 --> 00:10:21.193 And whatever virtues you have accumulated, 00:10:21.193 --> 00:10:23.548 you review it and you rejoice. 00:10:23.580 --> 00:10:26.870 So that was very good, I've done it very nicely, 00:10:26.870 --> 00:10:30.709 I was able to face my mind, I was able to decrease delusions, 00:10:30.709 --> 00:10:33.709 I was able to do this and this and this virtuous action. 00:10:33.709 --> 00:10:37.322 This is fantastic. Tomorrow, I will do even better. 00:10:37.322 --> 00:10:40.870 So before going to bed, you do this review. 00:10:40.870 --> 00:10:43.967 this was a very short explanation 00:10:43.967 --> 00:10:46.387 of how to carry out the practices, 00:10:46.387 --> 00:10:50.290 how to summarize the practice in one's life on the basis 00:10:50.290 --> 00:10:53.064 of a daily practice from morning up to night. 00:10:53.064 --> 00:10:57.451 So this is what we call daily practices. 00:11:00.843 --> 00:11:05.262 Those who are vigilant in mortality do not die. 00:11:15.622 --> 00:11:20.000 Those who are negligent are already dead 00:11:21.407 --> 00:11:23.455 - Shakyamuni Buddha 00:11:42.158 --> 00:11:46.094 Venerable Sangye Khadro is American-born and is a fully ordained nun in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. 00:11:46.094 --> 00:11:49.406 She is an internationally known teacher in the FPMT for over twenty years 00:11:49.406 --> 00:11:52.995 and the author of the popular best-selling book, How to Mediate, as well as Awakening the Kind Heart. 00:12:10.387 --> 00:12:16.741 One other thing that's very important in daily practice is purification. 00:12:16.741 --> 00:12:23.612 Because even if we do have the intention to be helpful to others 00:12:23.612 --> 00:12:26.161 and not do things that are harmful or negative, 00:12:26.161 --> 00:12:28.612 create bad karma and so on. 00:12:28.612 --> 00:12:31.806 We are just human beings, we have our faults, 00:12:31.806 --> 00:12:35.516 our imperfections and our limitations 00:12:35.516 --> 00:12:40.064 and so we're bound to make mistakes and lose our temper, 00:12:40.064 --> 00:12:44.870 get angry, or get caught up in negative thoughts 00:12:44.903 --> 00:12:48.677 and speak in negative ways or do things negative. 00:12:48.677 --> 00:12:53.129 So there's something we can do about that, 00:12:53.129 --> 00:12:58.225 when we do make mistakes and create bad karma, and that is purification. 00:12:58.225 --> 00:13:01.225 Purification is a practice we can do 00:13:01.225 --> 00:13:05.645 to clear up any negative karma that we've created in our day. 00:13:05.645 --> 00:13:08.225 So it's actually a good thing to do everyday, 00:13:08.258 --> 00:13:13.516 because, most probably, we do create negative karma each day. 00:13:13.516 --> 00:13:18.290 But, we can also purify things we've done before. 00:13:18.290 --> 00:13:23.064 The general practice of purification involves four things, four points, 00:13:23.064 --> 00:13:28.193 which are called the four powers, four opponent powers. 00:13:28.193 --> 00:13:35.129 First is, regret, and regret is not the same as guilt. 00:13:35.129 --> 00:13:37.741 So there's a difference between regret and guilt. 00:13:37.741 --> 00:13:40.806 I think we all know guilt, we're all familiar with guilt, 00:13:40.806 --> 00:13:44.290 that's very common in our culture. 00:13:44.290 --> 00:13:49.322 And I think of guilt as being more emotional. 00:13:49.322 --> 00:13:53.741 Like we feel really awful about something that we've done 00:13:53.741 --> 00:13:58.838 and maybe we get into beating ourselves up 00:13:58.838 --> 00:14:02.096 and thinking ‘I'm a horrible person'. 00:14:02.096 --> 00:14:06.451 Now, regret on the other hand, is not so emotional, 00:14:06.451 --> 00:14:09.451 it's more rational, more reasonable. 00:14:09.451 --> 00:14:12.774 Regret comes from understanding karma, 00:14:12.774 --> 00:14:16.677 understanding and believing in karma, accepting karma. 00:14:16.677 --> 00:14:19.870 So you understand that karma works. 00:14:19.870 --> 00:14:25.903 We do actions and those actions leave imprints on our mind 00:14:25.903 --> 00:14:28.967 which stay on our mind until some point in the future 00:14:28.967 --> 00:14:32.741 when causes and conditions come together the imprints ripen 00:14:32.774 --> 00:14:37.064 and we have some kind of experience as a result of that. 00:14:37.064 --> 00:14:40.032 So they say regret is similar to the way we would feel 00:14:40.032 --> 00:14:46.838 if we unknowingly swallowed something that was poisonous. 00:14:46.838 --> 00:14:49.516 So that's the feeling of regret, and that's the first power. 00:14:49.516 --> 00:14:52.096 The second power is refuge. 00:14:52.096 --> 00:14:55.774 Refuge is an attitude, a state of mind, 00:14:55.774 --> 00:15:00.838 that comes about by learning what the Buddha taught 00:15:00.838 --> 00:15:06.709 and feeling confidence, feeling trust in the Buddha and his teachings, 00:15:06.709 --> 00:15:12.290 agreeing with them and wanting to follow them. 00:15:12.290 --> 00:15:14.838 So that's just in general what it means to take refuge, 00:15:14.838 --> 00:15:18.677 very simply speaking. So if you're a Buddhist, 00:15:18.677 --> 00:15:25.032 then the second power would involve renewing your refuge 00:15:25.032 --> 00:15:28.709 or sense of commitment to the Buddha and his teachings. 00:15:28.709 --> 00:15:31.161 But if you're not a Buddhist, then, 00:15:31.161 --> 00:15:33.612 you may have other objects of faith, 00:15:33.612 --> 00:15:36.290 that you have faith or trust or confidence in, 00:15:36.290 --> 00:15:40.096 and that you take as your guides and wish to follow. 00:15:40.096 --> 00:15:46.096 So you could just renew your determination 00:15:46.096 --> 00:15:48.548 to follow those objects of your faith. 00:15:48.548 --> 00:15:50.903 And it can also involve generating, 00:15:50.903 --> 00:15:54.225 or renewing your wish to benefit others, 00:15:54.225 --> 00:15:57.483 your feelings of compassion and love and kindness towards others 00:15:57.483 --> 00:16:00.838 and the wish to not harm them and the wish to help them. 00:16:01.451 --> 00:16:09.677 Then the third of the four powers is what I call remedy. 00:16:09.677 --> 00:16:13.709 And, this involves doing something positive or virtuous 00:16:13.709 --> 00:16:18.548 to counteract the negative thing you've done by creating this bad karma. 00:16:18.548 --> 00:16:21.967 So you can do traditional virtuous things, 00:16:21.967 --> 00:16:24.935 like saying prayers or reciting mantras 00:16:24.935 --> 00:16:27.903 or meditation on loving kindness 00:16:27.903 --> 00:16:33.064 or meditation on other aspects of the path. 00:16:33.064 --> 00:16:35.838 But you could also be creative 00:16:35.838 --> 00:16:39.064 and find your own ways of doing something virtuous 00:16:39.064 --> 00:16:42.838 that is a counter measure to the negative thing you've done. 00:16:42.838 --> 00:16:45.290 Like for example if you did something 00:16:45.290 --> 00:16:48.903 that was like stealing or cheating, then you could give money, 00:16:48.903 --> 00:16:53.354 you could give a donation to charity or to some good cause. 00:16:53.354 --> 00:16:56.612 So generally we need to do something positive, something virtuous 00:16:56.612 --> 00:17:00.677 to oppose or counteract the negative thing we've done. 00:17:00.677 --> 00:17:06.516 Then the fourth power is, the power of resolution or determination, 00:17:06.516 --> 00:17:10.806 and that involves generating in your mind, 00:17:10.806 --> 00:17:14.096 some kind of determination about refraining 00:17:14.096 --> 00:17:16.451 from doing the same thing again in the future. 00:17:16.451 --> 00:17:19.225 So this is really important, because if we do something negative 00:17:19.225 --> 00:17:21.903 and then we say ‘oh I'm sorry' and then we do some purification, 00:17:21.903 --> 00:17:24.290 but then we go back and do it again, and again and again 00:17:24.290 --> 00:17:27.322 then it's not so wise or helpful. 00:17:27.322 --> 00:17:32.354 So there needs to be at least the wish to, 00:17:32.354 --> 00:17:36.580 even if we can't get to the point where we'll never do it again, 00:17:36.612 --> 00:17:42.838 but at least to lessen the amount of time we do it, 00:17:42.838 --> 00:17:46.451 to decrease the incidence of doing that same action again. 00:17:46.451 --> 00:17:50.483 So they say, you can, if it's something you feel 00:17:50.483 --> 00:17:52.645 ‘I will never do it again' 00:17:52.645 --> 00:17:55.741 and you can make that kind of promise and keep it, then ok. 00:17:55.741 --> 00:17:59.354 But if it's something that you have been doing, habitually, 00:17:59.354 --> 00:18:02.096 and you wouldn't be able to stop it all together, 00:18:02.096 --> 00:18:06.096 then you could make a promise to not do it for a limited period of time, 00:18:06.096 --> 00:18:13.322 like the next five minutes or the next hour, or half a day. 00:18:13.322 --> 00:18:15.935 So, find something that's reasonable, 00:18:15.935 --> 00:18:18.032 that's within your abilities, 00:18:18.032 --> 00:18:22.032 and try to just be aware and mindful for that period of time 00:18:22.032 --> 00:18:24.548 and try to refrain from doing that action again. 00:18:24.548 --> 00:18:27.677 So that particular practice is in a Tibetan tradition 00:18:27.677 --> 00:18:31.387 for purification that are all sort of written up and set up, 00:18:31.387 --> 00:18:33.419 that include these four powers. 00:18:33.419 --> 00:18:38.516 One of the more famous popular ones is the practice of Vajrasattva. 00:18:38.516 --> 00:18:41.741 It's a particular Buddha figure that we visualize, 00:18:41.741 --> 00:18:45.032 and then, we generate these powers, 00:18:45.032 --> 00:18:47.806 regret, thinking about the things we've done, 00:18:47.806 --> 00:18:50.838 we feel regret for, generating refuge 00:18:50.838 --> 00:18:54.096 and the wish to benefit other beings, 00:18:54.096 --> 00:18:59.516 then for the power of the remedy, we recite a mantra, 00:18:59.516 --> 00:19:01.806 there's a mantra associated with Vajrasattva, 00:19:01.838 --> 00:19:05.806 there's a long one that's got one hundred syllables, 00:19:05.806 --> 00:19:08.516 and then also a short one that is very simple 00:19:08.516 --> 00:19:12.161 'Om Vajrasattva Hung' and so your recite that mantra 00:19:12.161 --> 00:19:14.741 and that's particularly good to purify, 00:19:14.741 --> 00:19:18.322 to clear out negative karma that's been created. 00:19:18.322 --> 00:19:21.322 Then at the end of the practice you generate a resolution 00:19:21.322 --> 00:19:25.161 to refrain from doing the action again. 00:19:25.161 --> 00:19:27.741 Another one is the 35 Buddhas, 00:19:27.741 --> 00:19:32.193 which, there's a thangka here, showing the 35 Buddhas. 00:19:32.193 --> 00:19:35.032 So that practice involves again, 00:19:35.032 --> 00:19:37.612 first thinking about the things you want to purify, 00:19:37.612 --> 00:19:42.193 generating regret for them, and then taking refuge in the 35 Buddhas, 00:19:42.193 --> 00:19:44.290 and then reciting their names. 00:19:44.290 --> 00:19:46.548 So reciting the names of these 35 Buddhas, 00:19:46.548 --> 00:19:49.935 and if you can, doing prostrations to them at the same time, 00:19:49.935 --> 00:19:54.580 bowing to them, that is for the third power, the power of the remedy. 00:19:54.580 --> 00:19:57.193 So that's a very virtuous thing, 00:19:57.193 --> 00:20:01.258 to recite names of Buddhas and also prostrate to them. 00:20:01.258 --> 00:20:03.741 And then you go through a prayer of confession 00:20:03.741 --> 00:20:06.161 of the negative things you've done 00:20:06.161 --> 00:20:09.129 and then at the end generating a resolution to not do it again. 00:20:09.129 --> 00:20:13.354 It's good if we can do a purification practice every night, 00:20:13.354 --> 00:20:16.419 because, probably during the day 00:20:16.419 --> 00:20:20.548 we have done things that were negative. 00:20:20.548 --> 00:20:23.741 And if we don't purify, then, 00:20:23.741 --> 00:20:29.161 another thing that happens with karma is that it multiplies, 00:20:29.193 --> 00:20:32.709 so if you do something negative one day, 00:20:32.709 --> 00:20:35.161 and then you don't do anything to purify it, 00:20:35.161 --> 00:20:40.967 by the second day it's multiplied. It's become worse, heavier. 00:20:40.967 --> 00:20:43.548 And that happens each day that we don't purify, 00:20:43.548 --> 00:20:45.838 so the sooner we can purify the better. 00:20:45.838 --> 00:20:48.387 So that's why it's a good idea to do it at night, 00:20:48.387 --> 00:20:51.322 to purify any negative karma we've done during that day 00:20:51.322 --> 00:20:55.129 so that at least we stop it from multiplying until the next day. 00:20:56.935 --> 00:20:59.668 STUDENTS 00:21:02.868 --> 00:21:08.330 What does DAILY PRACTICE mean to you? 00:21:09.064 --> 00:21:11.387 The first thing that I start to do, 00:21:11.387 --> 00:21:15.258 in terms of a daily practice, was actually starting, 00:21:15.258 --> 00:21:18.193 I used to do some meditation before I was a Buddhist, 00:21:18.193 --> 00:21:20.903 but it was more like set my motivation, 00:21:20.903 --> 00:21:24.516 as taking refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha, 00:21:24.516 --> 00:21:27.032 for the sake of all sentient beings, 00:21:27.032 --> 00:21:31.225 so then, that would be the main thing. 00:21:31.225 --> 00:21:35.129 Then, I was interested in prostrations, 00:21:35.129 --> 00:21:38.129 I got very drawn to doing that, 00:21:38.129 --> 00:21:41.032 and then, the whole thing with purification, 00:21:41.032 --> 00:21:43.290 which I didn't really know about, 00:21:43.290 --> 00:21:45.548 but as I did prostrations I learned more, 00:21:45.548 --> 00:21:47.935 so I did the 35 Buddha practice. 00:21:47.935 --> 00:21:51.645 everyday, I would do at least 35. 00:21:51.645 --> 00:21:54.483 I used to do like a hundred every day, 00:21:54.483 --> 00:21:58.548 sometimes it would, because of, when I started to work full time, 00:21:58.548 --> 00:22:01.354 night duty and things like that, it would be difficult, 00:22:01.354 --> 00:22:05.451 so I'd just do the basic commitment. 00:22:05.451 --> 00:22:09.193 But then obviously when I was in retreat, I don't know how, 00:22:09.193 --> 00:22:14.903 but I managed to do like, maybe a thousand or so a day. 00:22:14.903 --> 00:22:19.903 I think maybe at one point I got up to two thousand. 00:22:19.903 --> 00:22:23.612 I don't know what the quality was but it was really different. 00:22:23.645 --> 00:22:27.967 When I did an intensive, you could see, the Lam Rim, 00:22:27.967 --> 00:22:35.032 impermanence, precious human rebirth, and renunciation, 00:22:35.032 --> 00:22:42.709 you could feel that these are things I really need to realize. 00:22:42.709 --> 00:22:45.903 I got a feel of a little bit of the quality of the Lam Rim. 00:22:45.903 --> 00:22:49.129 I went back to England, and I trained as a nurse. 00:22:49.129 --> 00:22:54.161 I realized my practice was out there with people, 00:22:54.161 --> 00:22:56.806 caring for them. They are the priority. 00:22:56.806 --> 00:23:00.580 If I have spent time doing my practice in the morning, 00:23:00.580 --> 00:23:05.451 when I go to work my heart is really so much more open 00:23:05.451 --> 00:23:08.258 and I am focused on them. 00:23:08.258 --> 00:23:17.903 Otherwise I can be a little bit more interested in me. 00:23:17.903 --> 00:23:23.258 But I also think the work helps to open my heart as well. 00:23:23.258 --> 00:23:26.516 Actually it works both ways, my practice helps my work, 00:23:26.516 --> 00:23:30.354 but my work helps my practice. 00:23:30.354 --> 00:23:35.258 I see so much suffering in that job, it's hard work, 00:23:35.258 --> 00:23:39.741 but yet, because I have the Dharma, there's a bigger perspective. 00:23:39.741 --> 00:23:42.322 And I can do prayers for people. 00:23:42.322 --> 00:23:45.290 So when I come home, which is really important, 00:23:45.290 --> 00:23:51.677 I feel like it's my duty, as a Buddhist, 00:23:51.677 --> 00:23:56.677 for me as, trying to develop bodhicitta, so I pray for all my patients 00:23:56.677 --> 00:24:01.741 that they will become enlightened soon. 00:24:01.741 --> 00:24:09.064 So at the end of the day, I do Vajrasattva, to purify everything. 00:24:09.064 --> 00:24:12.677 So I try to think about everything I've done in the day 00:24:12.677 --> 00:24:17.483 that's negative karma, but also, try to expand that, 00:24:17.483 --> 00:24:20.645 that's not just today, that's many times in this life, 00:24:20.645 --> 00:24:22.838 many times in many lives. 00:24:22.838 --> 00:24:27.290 So I try to really expand that, and then do the Vajrasattva meditation, 00:24:27.290 --> 00:24:35.258 a recitation and try to make a promise to not do those things 00:24:35.258 --> 00:24:40.838 for as much time as I feel I can, and then I dedicate. 00:24:40.838 --> 00:24:49.322 And I try to do a dedication that includes all the people 00:24:49.322 --> 00:24:53.451 that I care for in the hospital, family, friends. 00:24:53.451 --> 00:24:58.645 And I try also to expand it to as many people I can think of. 00:24:58.645 --> 00:25:01.129 Cause I think it's something very important 00:25:01.129 --> 00:25:05.419 about focusing on individuals in the dedication 00:25:05.419 --> 00:25:12.129 but obviously I used the dedication for all beings. 00:25:12.129 --> 00:25:15.548 I love to do my practice, I really do. 00:25:15.548 --> 00:25:20.161 And I feel so sad when I can't spend so much time on it. 00:25:20.161 --> 00:25:22.709 It makes me feel really sad. 00:25:22.709 --> 00:25:27.032 And I've noticed when I've had lots going on in my life, 00:25:27.032 --> 00:25:30.096 and I haven't been able to do my practice, 00:25:30.096 --> 00:25:33.677 I'm not happy. I'm not a happy person. 00:25:33.677 --> 00:25:37.774 And I also don't like doing my practice as much. 00:25:37.774 --> 00:25:39.838 Which is quite interesting. 00:25:39.838 --> 00:25:45.225 When I have time and I do my practice, I'm a happier person. 00:25:47.054 --> 00:25:53.131 Please dedicate the positive energy generated by listening to these teachings, 00:25:53.589 --> 00:25:58.492 so you can quickly attain Enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. 29342
