to get used to the realities

just the fantasies

Well, I put
my name and my birthday

a pair of socks too,

which my mom said
used to be my favorite

but now,
they barely fit on a toe.

with my friend Melanie
before her big day.

We did some
volunteer work together

at the end of college
and got really close.

And then when she
got married, the week

after graduation, she asked me
to be her maid of honor.

That was the last time
we saw each other.

to different parts

of the world and just kind
of lost track of each other.

Yeah. That happened a lot
before the internet thing.
