the season,

chaos continues to reign

for the King of the Klondike,
Tony Beets.

[narrator] With just 462
of his 6,000 ounce gold

in the bank and a devastating
breakdown last week,

Tony has paused mining
at the Indian River

and he's moving
his entire crew

back to the heart
of his gold mining empire.

[Tony speaking]

[narrator] His tried
and tested ground

at Paradise Hill is stripped,

thawed, and ready to sluice.

But first he needs his

30-year-old trommel
back up and running.

[Tony speaking]

[narrator] Last season,

Tony's eldest son
and head mechanic, Kevin

discovered the trommel's ring

was catastrophically damaged.

This part here is about
ready to [bleep] snap off.

[narrator] But at the start
of the year...

[Tony speaking]

[narrator] ...Kevin decided
not to return

to the family business.

[Kevin] Like,
we just got the house,

we'd like to actually do
something with it.

[narrator] With Kevin gone,

Tony has spent three months
fixing the trommel

and now halfway
through the season,

he's finally ready
to reassemble it.

[Tony speaking]

[vocalizes]

[upbeat music playing]

[narrator] Tony first planned
to lift

the 40 ton steel barrel
off the wash plant's

40-foot long skid frame

and move it out of the way.

Then the skid and its rollers

will be lifted gently
by two excavators

at either end of its frame

and carefully walked
400 feet in a dog leg

to the plant's new path.

The trommel barrel will then
be put back onto the skid

and will be one step closer

to bringing in
some much needed gold.

Without Kevin,

Tony's relying
on his other kids

to make the move a success.

[Tony speaking]

[engine whirring]

My radio is no longer working.

[Tony speaking]

[Monica] [bleep] he's mad.

Now, we are lifting the skid.

[narrator] The barrel removed,

the team repositions
to lift the skid.

I don't know
what Tony's plan is,

but he's in a hurry,

he wants to get sluicing,

and I think
it's kind of clicking
with T. Beets that,

gotta start getting gold.

must work in perfect unison

to carry the 4-ton
steel skid to the path.

has the skid on its new path,

but he's still a long way
from washing rocks.

we can do is go forward,

so hopefully he's
calmed himself down

and tried to regulate himself

and hopefully we are
one step closer
to actually sluicing.

We finally got Big Red
up and running

for the first time this year,

and so far so good.

[narrator] Halfway through
his season,

Parker Schnabel's operation

is finally running
at full throttle.

It's good to have
two plants going, you know,

we can't survive
off of just one
sluice box anymore.

[narrator] At Ken
and Stewart's,

Sluicifer's washing dirt
in the El Dorado cut.

And after spending
three months

getting down to pay
at Dominion,

Big Red is sluicing
the money pit.

If the team can
keep it running all week,

Parker will finally get a read
on whether or not

his $15 million gamble
will pay off.

If there's no gold in it,
we're wasting a lot of time.

But it's just
very different ground
than we've been mining.

[narrator] So far Parker
has mined

over 1,600 ounces of gold

towards his 5,000
breakeven point.

[Parker speaking]

[dramatic music playing]

We're gonna keep the wings
of Sluicifer separate.

I will clean them
like two separate cleanups.

[narrator] Gold recovery
expert Chris Doumitt

processes the first
cleanup of the week

from the El Dorado cut.

We have a real problem here.

Unfortunately,
this right wing's

got way too much gold in it.

It shouldn't be here,
it should be in the main.

There definitely could be
something wrong with Sluicifer

if you have a lot of gold
in one wing

and not the other.

Something's not right.

Hey, Parker, I think
we've got a problem, man.

It looks like we have real
uneven gold in the wings

on down here at Sluicifer.

[Parker] That's no good.

There must be something wrong
with the plant.

Let me talk to Tyson.

[narrator] Sluicifer
is Parker's only steady
money maker,

and he can't afford
for it to be losing any gold.

[dramatic music playing]

[Parker] We just need
a good consistent
wash plant running.

But we're not getting that.
We need the money coming in.

Mitch is away. So Tyson
needs to be keeping it going

[narrator] With foreman
Mitch Blaschke away on leave,

it's down
to plant boss Tyson Lee

to keep both of Parker's
wash plants running.

[Parker] How you doing?

[Tyson] Good, how are you?

[Parker] Um, you have
a problem with Sluicifer.

So you have
a feed direction problem

or a chute that's blocked off

down in the distributor
or something.

Something's going on.

Like, guaranteed
we're losing some gold

based on those numbers, right?

Did you notice anything wonky?

I did notice that the water
was flowing on
the right-hand side

of the right wing,

but with it vibrating,
it could just sort of
walk over a bit.

[Parker] So we're
kind of [bleep] up?

We need this [bleep] thing
banging rocks.

[narrator] To prevent
further potential gold loss,

Tyson first checks to see
if the plant is level.

[Tyson] You take a look
at our level here,

the plant leaning downhill.

I have a feeling it's probably
leaning towards the right too.

So, yeah.

So, Sluicifer
is settled into place

and it's kind of leaning
towards the tailings conveyor

towards the right wing.

We're gonna
shut down the plant,

get the excavators staged up
in the front

start to lift the wash plant.

[narrator] Sluicifer
is not sitting straight

and is leaning to one side.

This unevenness is channeling
gold concentrate

into the sluice box's
right wing,

causing the riffles to clog.

When the riffles
become too full,

the gold can't be caught

and is lost washing out
the end of the box.

Tyson needs to lift the plant,

level it,
then build up the pad

to balance
the distribution of pay
across the sluices

and capture all the gold.

So right now I've got
the 480 hooked up

to the right-hand side
of Sluicifer.

I'm gonna hook the 750 up
to the left-hand side
of the pontoon,

and then, we'll try and do
a dead lift the Sluicifer.

We tuned some stuff under it.

Hopefully these machines
have enough jam

to lift this plant,
'cause this plant is heavy.

And we don't just
have to lift it,

we have to keep it lifted

while we're putting material

underneath it to level it.

[narrator] Combined,
the two excavators

are rated to deadlift
around 50 tons.

A fully assembled Sluicifer
weighs in at 45 tons.

And the gold
from his latest cut,

is barely keeping
the operation afloat.

Rick is working solo
to open a new cut,

which he believes
will give them a big score.

trying to get a strip

so that we can move up here

and just start

The one thing that
I'm really missing up here

is a full-time mechanic.

I talked to Zee about a guy,

has been down two days

and he's still waiting
for a new mechanic to arrive.

Two people,

should only take one machine,

the loader gets fixed.

we can't sacrifice the loader

back in action,

Ryan will decommission
a rock truck

and transplant
its injector line

into the loader.

There's no easy fix
around here.

Big Red is shut down
with a dead water pump,

leaving Parker's crew

reaching back into the past.

Oh, this is an old pump
that was out
in the old pump boneyard.

Some pump off a dredge.

[narrator] Parker's mechanics
are resurrecting

an ancient water pump
from a 1950s dredge.

All right. We're getting
this one put together
so it can replace it

and, uh, Big Red can run
at full speed with this thing.

Because of the timeline,

we've pulled everybody off

everything they were doing,
and we have, like,

every mechanic in the yard
working on this thing.

-[man] Yeah.

Well, the problem is,

is the plant's now
not running.

And it hasn't run all night.

[narrator] Parker
has already lost

18 hours sluicing,

costing $40,000

in lost gold production.

So here we go,
out with the old.

[narrator] Tyson removes
the old broken pump

to make space
for its replacement.

[Tyson] We're really putting
the whole faith,

the operation up here
at Dominion

with Big Red
on this new water pump.

If it has issues,
we won't be sluicing.

[Tyson] That's a pretty
sweet looking crane.

Just gotta get
this pump in place
and hopefully it works.

were able to get this thing

[narrator] After 20 hours
of downtime,

Big Red is finally back
on the gold.

[Tyson] We're back
to sluicing.

Two running wash plants,
double the amount of gold,

double the amount of pay,

double the amount of profit.

So, today,
I am running rock truck.

I haven't run rock truck
in, like, forever.

And the reason
I'm on a rock truck

is because T. Beets is going,

uh, a little haywire.

[narrator] The pressure
to get on the gold

is getting to Tony Beets.

With tensions running high
after they clashed
while moving the trommel,

Tony has demoted
daughter, Monica,

to hauling pay
from the Super Pit.

With having
the trommel taken apart

and moving to a new spot,

you know, it's definitely
taking a toll on the T. Beets.

[dramatic music playing]

I'm taking the ring off
of the trommel today.

And my dad decided to do it
with no else around,

so it's just me and him.

[Mike] Yup.

[Mike] Sometimes
it's simple that way.

Okay.

[narrator] The trommel's
40-foot long barrel

has two outer running rings

held in place by metal wedges.

Tony and Mike need to remove
the damaged ring

from the end of the trommel

and replace it
with a new spare,

then secure it in place
with wedges.

Once complete,
Tony will lift the barrel

and move it to its skid

at the wash plant's new path.

[Tony speaking]

[Mike] The worst thing
is [bleep] taking
the ring off.

[laughs exultantly] Victory!

it's time to put
the barrel back on the skid.

in Monica to direct

as he and Mike operate
the 950 and 750 excavators.

I like how this time
instead of everybody
moving sideways,

they're just walking forward.

That seems like a smarter way

to move the trommel
than we did.

[Monica] You can start
straightening out.

So Michael turns
and you keep coming in, Tony.

[metal creaking]

about a foot and a half.
